tv The Five FOX News December 28, 2015 2:00pm-3:01pm PST
2:00 pm
hello, everyone, i'm kimberly guilfoyle along with greg gutfeld, dana perino, juan williams and eric bol iling. and this is "the five." is bill clinton fair game in the white house? he's fighting back against the recent accusation of sexism with the reminder of her own husband's record with women. >> i think he is fair game because his presidency was really considered to be very troubled, to put it mildly, because of all the things that she's talking to me about.
2:01 pm
i carry her exact words against her from that standpoint. she's got to be careful. it's got to be fair, and we all have to fight fairly. she's playing the women's card, and it's like, gimme a break. >> his opponent, carly fiorina, agrees. >> of course bill clinton is fair game. you're not going to beat hillary clinton by attacking bill clinton. you're going to beat hillary clinton -- i'm going to beat hillary clinton by attacking her track record and her lack of trustworthiness. >> but the head of the democratic party has a warning against anybody who dares bring up things from the past. >> i dare that anyone would raise bill clinton as somehow a negative to their peril. every poll i've seen shows that if hillary clinton was a candidate tomorrow, she would be elected.
2:02 pm
>> kirsten, what do you make of it? fair game? a wise move? >> i don't think it's a wise move. he's very popular, and republicans didn't go after them maybe as much as trump is going after them, but with the impeachment hearings, they saw this backfire on them going after thhim on his womanizing. i don't think it will stop hillary clinton from becoming president. >> brian, you have the clipboard. how would call the plays? sdplz you we >> you were there, so you know better than anybody in this building. i will say this. i think that he effectively will take away the female card from -- and i guess we disagree here, kirsten. but i think he's taking it away effectively from hillary clinton, and here's why. when bill clinton is popular now, but when he left, al gore's
2:03 pm
assessment was, this guy is so unpopular and controversial, i can't even use him. if he could channel and bring bill clinton back to 1998 and make us remember that, and bring us all the episodes and lawsuits that followed and the accusations that were there, then i think donald trump has done something not only for himself but the entire republican field. >> a lot of people think, and i think this as well, and al gourmet even think it today that that was a mistake. it wasn't just that he felt he was problematic because of what happened, it was that al gore had a lot of animosity toward him because of what happened, and i think that got in the way of bill clinton campaigning for him. >> absolutely, but the fact there was even a thought in his mind as opposed to ronald reagan when he left, he was at 44, 45% then, and he brought with him a lot of baggage, a bad marriage o or a marriage that didn't seem
2:04 pm
effective where it wasn't a factor. and people are going to be going, wow, do we really want this chaos again? the circus is back in town. do we want that? they not only have to think about the economy and the stock market, then they have to think about what was going on during the economy in that time. there was a surge in the tech world. >> wasn't it jennifer flowers that made no excuses jeans? >> you said it didn't stop bill from getting elected, why would it stop hillary? they're talking about their victims of sexual assault. hillary actually attacked and shamed these women, ruined their lives and then says, i'm a
2:05 pm
feminist? it's a repeated pattern of behavior all associated with being bill's wife. >> but hillary clinton is not complicit in her husband's affair with somebody else. no matter what she says about it, no matter who she talks to about it, that's not her gig. >> she actually had the guts to accuse people of the right to leave -- she's the exact opposite. you can't call yourself a feminist with a record like that. >> you know because you did such a great job covering all this. once a woman says she's been raped, she's been raped and you're never allowed to question it. there are people who have accused bill clinton of rape and he's never been found guilty, but hillary clinton says once the accusation is made, we have to believe it. >> that would be on monica lewinsky's side, actually. she would have had way more support. >> let's get jillian back in.
2:06 pm
>> i think we can argue bill clinton's affair or affairs till the cows come home, but at the end of the day, the american people are not voting him into or out of office. they're voting for his wife. people are going to judge her based on her agenda, based on her background. >> would you also say this is correct? would you also say there are some people who want to vote for somebody just because they're the first african-american president, they're the first female president? is it effective or not for donald trump at this point to nullify that, take away the sexist thing that was so effective for mitt romney, and donald trump, who was supporting this guy, said why is he fighting back? he destroyed governor walker by saying his state is a bit of a mess. the cruz is a maniac. rubio is a kid. in one word he has managed to take the opposition of a candidate and bring it forward
2:07 pm
and stick it in everybody's fals. >> he hasn't stopped cruz, he hasn't stopped rubio. some people will be stopped regardless. scott walker was not going to win the nomination. >> for a while, most people thought he was gold. the money was there. >> i think the people that he's taking credit for taking out, let's see him take out somebody who is a -- >> we know a few things about bill. number one, he was a popular president. he's a great campaigner. he helped us campaign in san francisco very effectively, he's definitely good on the stump. she would be foolish not to use him. she runs the risk of people like donald trump pushing it in her face for sure, but we'll get some feedback from arched the table. hillary. >> starting in januarjanuary, i have my not so secret weapon. we're going to cover as much
2:08 pm
ground in new hampshire as we possibly can, see as many people, thank everybody who is going to turn out and vote for me and try to get some more to join them. >> okay, she's going to use them. she has to. why wouldn't you? >> i think there is a problem. the one thing, if bill clinton thinks he has to go up there and answer questions and the first five questions will be about paula jones and all these women, he'll say, honey, i think i have to go fishing with some stranger. i really don't want to go do this. if donald trump spends wednesday and thursday talking about this, guess what? when bill clinton goes out as his first cattle call when he starts taking random questions from the press or there's an event and he has to start answering these things, he doesn't need this. >> do you really think reporters will do that? i can see a question or two, but i don't see it being a full-on, constant, like asking him -- rehashing things that have already been hashed.
2:09 pm
i mean, really, haven't we discussed this enough? >> every time he brings up the topic, kirsten, it becomes the agenda. every time he brings it up. for example, the muslims comment, or the john mccain comment, the carly fiorina face comment. every time he says something, everybody else wants to respond. >> but don't you think he'll have an answer and move on? >> and this really kind of makes it not so e her to do that. >> head to head, trump and hillary are now in a virtual tie, okay? just one poll, but they're in a virtual tie now, and she is absolutely no competition. she is currently possibly going to lose iowa-new hampshire against a 70-year-old socialist. there has to be a degree of recalibration in brooklyn at the headquarters of hillary clinton. >> you think she's in big trouble? >> i would say she's not running on cruise control like she
2:10 pm
should be right now, sitting back, watching the 12 battle it out. >> you mean she's not going to win the primary. is that what you're saying? >> i'm saying in the caucus it's not a lay-up, in new hampshire it's not a lay-up. if you have to wait until the third event to get a victory in something you should be winning overwhelmingly, i'm worried about the pre-season. >> she's going to go out there, i don't think she's calling him out of desperation, i think she held onto it because she doesn't want to wear it out, the secret weapon. he loves to do this and he's kind of good at charming his way out of this. he got impeached and then we were like, oops. >> katherine made me think of a good point. it's not just hillary clinton running for president. she's very much relying on the platform of being a woman, but she's also running as a
2:11 pm
feminist. it's interesting that her and her top aide, who also happens to be a woman, who both endured these very public, very shaming affairs by their husbands -- and it's not my job to stand here and tell them what they should decide in the aftermath. these are two women who are very pro-activist and they stood by their husbands. >> she's not not feminist, she stayed with her husband. >> by the way, is this outnumbered? i've got no guy help at all. i'm not complaining, but i'm pointing it out. i need a couch. everyone is the same sex, all of a sudden. and this is "the five."
2:12 pm
coming up on "the five," football star peyton manning is fighting out against allegations that he used performance-enhancing drugs by al jazeera. you'll hear peyton fans coming to his defense, next. this is the one place we're not afraid to fail. some of these experiments may not work. but a few might shape the future. like turning algae into biofuel... ...new technology for capturing co2 emissions...
2:13 pm
2:16 pm
a great american athlete is peyton manning. the media has accused peyton manning and other stars of doping. it alleges manning received human growth hormone from an indianapolis clinic while he was still with the colts battling back from a series of neck surgeries. the football great is adamantly denying it. >> disgusted is really how i feel. sickened by it that -- i'm not sure i understand how someone can make something up about somebo somebody, admit that he made it up and somehow it gets published in a story. it's defamation and it really ticks me off. >> well, former quarterback is coming to peyton's defense. >> i'm quite confident, in fact,
2:17 pm
i'm very sure, that he didn't have anything to do with it. he understands the pain, he understands the price if he does do it. you're talking about a storied career. he's not going to throw it away. to me it's something somebody said and it's unfortunate peyton's name came up in it. >> tom brady also on peyton's side. >> he's one of the best players that ever played the game, so nobody has more respect for peyton that i do, and everything that he's accomplished, i have a lot of friends, a lot of support, and he's the same. >> his family is honest with integrity and values, and if this is me, and they accuse me of using drugs or being on tape with a campaign, is the only analogy i can come up with, i'm calling 1-800-kimberly
2:18 pm
guilfoyle, suing them. what would be the hesitation of him going ahead with this lawsuit? >> great question, which is why i think he won't sue. he's threatening a civil lawsuit, but if he does that, then the other side is able to get all kinds of discovery, get documents turned over and go on a field day, which is not really in peyton's interest. it doesn't mean he's not innocent. i take him for his word. again, you have somebody like tom brady coming out on his behalf, somebody like joe theismann, joe montana, any of them. nevertheless, they have played the game. they know him, they know the family. you see the family eating together. they're about as whole sosome a you get on the cover of the wheaties box. nobody questions his integrity, his capability. it's not like he's a one-shot wonder and had one good season. he has consistently been one of
2:19 pm
the best in my top five players -- football players and quarterbacks. >> so sue. >> no, you don't sue. if you sue -- it's also al jazeera. throw that out there. >> katherine, you see this issue. you might not be the biggest sports fan or you might be the biggest sports fan, but peyton manning has hosted snl. he has every major endorsement on the planet, and he is obviously upset. but we watched rodriguez deny it, turns out to be true. mcguire, turns out to be true, tommy so he issa. >> gary bonds. >> and it turns out to be true. can you blame them for being skeptical? >> i don't think they're being that skeptical. peyton manning is the closest we have to the jesus of football. everybody loves peyton manning.
2:20 pm
when you listen to cnn versus how they were talking about tom brady, they had people saying, i don't know, i don't know. everyone says, poor peyton manning, he's the best, how dare anyone say this. that's a good indication of people saying it's not true, that's a good indication, because they don't want to. >> all this material is married to ashley manning. there's only three things you can get adh for. one is a growth problem, one is a cvr issue, and one is something you're born with that takes your entire life. so there is no prescription for it. unfortunately, his family is involved now. >> and that's the unfortunate part. the other cases with tom brady the most recent in football, we didn't see the family get dragged through the mud a whole lot. that's what's going to happen here. especially if there is a lawsuit, they will open every can of worms, look into everything.
2:21 pm
i prefer talking about tom brady just because i have a crush on him -- >> and he now knows for the first time that you do. >> your move. >> your serve. >> it's just a depressing story. no one wants to see another american athletic idol fall, you know? and so i hope it's not true. >> it's an anti-aging clinic that's involved. g the guy who runs it says, listen, all of this stuff is not true. but the accusations in the surveillance video, it's shot secretly, but he's a customer, a former track athlete, and it's shot from -- it looks like his hip or his thigh, and he's talking about over six days giving this stuff to the packer team, and, of course, the biggest name, peyton manning. >> peyton manning hasn't addressed the fact that -- it seems like he said his wife didn't receive these, right? that's the part that seems a little suspicious to me.
2:22 pm
unless there is something she could be receiving these for. >> i want you guys to hear this, kirst kirsten. i want you to hear what they said since the controversy and the denials happened. here's what spokesperson debra davies said. >> how much was shipped to his home in florida, to his wife, actually? what were the dates of those shipments? how much money was spent on that growth hormone? and growth hormone is a very, very restricted drug. there are only three very serious medical conditions for which it can be prescribed legally. if it is not, then the doctor who prescribed those drugs has actually committed a crime. >> so that's not very good, right? that doesn't sound good. at the same time what doesn't add up to me is they say they were sending them to the wife because they didn't want to send it to him as if no one will connect him with his wife. that doesn't make sense.
2:23 pm
>> unless you have somebody coming forward to say that they injected him or saw him doing it, unless the wife is going to turn against him, and we saw people do that, trainers, et cetera, they're not going to have any proof to tie it together to say, in fact, he used hgh. >> didn't he have to address that his wife was getting hem and say why? >> that depends how far he goes with it. >> and the guy came out and said, i lied. gotta go. i was traumatized because my fiancee died. i don't know how one thing has to do with the other, and he certainly wasn't traumatized for six days. i just hope it's not true, because peyton manning is the icon you can tell your kids to look up to, as is eli, as is cooper, as is his wife. >> i don't want it to happen again. >> that's a gee very good pointt he does do a lot of commercials
2:24 pm
2:28 pm
president obama repeatedly assured americans, we're going to defeat isis. but a new poll about the country is not satisfied with how the fight against isis is progressing. many people since 9/11 think the terrorists are winning. 40% that the president wants to keep with the strategy despite the warnings of top advisers who say it's not working. >> i question what it is going through his head and who is advising him on staying the course. he's over visiting the national
2:29 pm
counterterrorism center. the other day he visited the pentagon. he made some comments afterwards essentially saying we're on track. we're not on track. i do believe he has an idealogy that is not necessarily aligned with the majority of the people in this country. >> political correctness is keeping us from winning the war, according to congressman peter king. >> should there be more surveillance in the muslim communities? the answer is yes. there should not be restrictions put on the police. the reality is sound police work means you go where the threat is coming from, and the threat is coming from the muslim community. what's blinding us is tying our hands and causing us loss of life by this political correctness. >> so president obama has been on this reassurance tour around washington to try and ease fears about the rise of isis, but i think what would really make the american people feel better is if he would allow the military to degrade and defeat isis as he
2:30 pm
promised to do over a year ago. what do you guys think? >> i would be very curious to see that happen. i would love to see that take place. does anybody have a video camera when you start bombing sites? can you show us the progress you're making? can you get us some captured soldiers? we find out eight months after a big raid that we got information that isis has a plan to raise money by harvesting organs. okay, tell us the progress you're making. tell us who this guy is and tell us along wait that you're engaged. bill clinton ala the san bernardino victims. i would love to know he's thinking about them in hawaii. i would love to know that the mosque had something bigger in mind, that he was flat outlying when he said he didn't even know these killers. >> but you're asking for a different president. you're asking for a completely different commander in chief, and you heard it from matt flynn saying his idealogy is
2:31 pm
inconsistent with this war on terror. you couldn't make a stronger statement condemning the politics of this administration than what we've been hearing. any time anyone is released as a hostage from that administration, they come out and the truth serum is there and they tell you exactly what's going on. anybody who has differed with the president in terms of the general, and the command force is taken out one by one, the people who actually knows what needs to be done and have the specifics to dock it up, listen to the plans and ideas. unfortunately, this is not what this president wants to do. he's going to do bare minimum. >> something really interesting that happened last week is the president gave his last 2015 presser in the white house briefing room. it was lopng, he took a lot of questions. one of the things he said was i acknowledge some of the criticism from the american people and maybe the media has been correct in the fact that i
2:32 pm
have not really done a good job explaining to people the anti-isis campaign, what we're doing on the ground, what we're doing in the air, what the goals are. it was very interesting because he very thoughtfully sort of said, okay, i get that. for the first time he said, i kind of understand why people are polling about it so much. >> he actually said, i understand the way you're explaining what i'm doing wrong. people think terrorists are winning and i think that so many people said yes is kind of a win in itself. terrorists don't want to take our lives, they want to completely destroy our way of life. you can say you're more likely to get crushed by furniture than being killed by a terrorist, but i have to say i'm more scared of a terrorist than my furniture. i've fallen out of plenty of chairs, but i do think it's because we're worried it's going to get worse because we don't seem to be doing anything to
2:33 pm
make it better. that's why people are so scared, because it can ruin your way of life. >> even the paris attacks, more than the san bernardino attacks, turned paris on its head. it showed that whatever progress the administration is making on the ground in iraq or syria or the middle east, they have come across the world and penetrated the heart of western europe. that's where the attention is focused. >> the day after he said they were contained. >> exactly. but the point is it's great to make progress in the middle east. that's what we want, we want to take back territory that isis is holding. but at the same time, if they're encroaching into france and the u.k., who cares? obviously, i don't mean that. we care very much. but the attention is now much closer to home. >> it shuchbt have had to come to this point. i'm not giving him any credit. i'm interested in body bags and counts here to say this is what we're doing, we're taking these
2:34 pm
guys out. we wouldn't need to be convinced or soothed by his rhetoric if we actually saw the results. the proof would be in the pudding. it's not there. he can't make it up. and we already know, in fact, where his mind and his focus is. and he's in hawaii. he's not thinking about san bernardino. >> and the other thing is -- kirsten, why don't you weigh in. >> i think he can think about this on vacation. presidents when they travel are always working. but i do think there is something probably to this idealogic idealogical, and i do think he's fought a war on terror more in terms of the drone wars and all that kind of stuff, but at the same time ins. and he has been flat-footed and

2:39 pm
who do you most admire in america today? president obama topped the list of admired men again for 2015. the pope is in a tie with donald trump for second place, followed by bernie sanders and bill gates. and the most admired women? despite a rocky year with her e-mail scandal, hillary clinton remains number one for the 20th time since 1993.
2:40 pm
she's followed by mulala, oprah winfrey, michelle obama and car lie fiorina. did you vote? >> i wasn't allowed to vote, i promise. >> a reality tv star running for president but at the same time has managed to bring the presidential campaign discourse to new, seemingly bottomless lows, bathroom accusations and criticisms -- >> he's different. >> i will give you your chance to rebut in a second. let her finish. >> i just want to know who the people were who came out in equal force to vote for donald trump here with the pope. >> number one, the numbers are ridiculously low. how divided are we? are people voting for their
2:41 pm
parents? if the second guy is 7%, there's too many candidates. number one, i think pope francis is not a lauded figure as many might think. he calls out america, he calls out people who go to bat for other countries, and he has somewhat of a socialistic, marxist attitude, and i think a lot of people are rallying around a very famous person in donald trump. >> wow, going up for the pope. >> when did we start confusing in this country the idea of being famous with being admirable? because i think that's a mistake that's made all the time. >> one of the things about the way they do this poll is they ask people just to name people. they don't give you a list to choose from, because obviously if they did, you would have been on it. people are going to naturally think of the president, they're
2:42 pm
going to naturally think of these people, but what do you make of hillary clinton 20 years r running? >> i think people were confused by the question, because hillary clinton got most admired versus frequent, loose relationship with the truth. other polls showed people find her to be the most untrustworthy people. the other question would be would they choose her for president. >> who do you think will be on the list? >> if you're asking me -- yeah, ronald reagan, pope john paul ii. i go old school, but i hold them up in high regard, and it's just tough to stand up to the choices i have from the past. >> what do you make of this list? >> i really hope it is just because people are hearing her name a lot. otherwise i would probably give up on humanity. that's gross. but look, she's been on more times than mother teresa.
2:43 pm
i feel like maybe mother teresa did more good stuff than hillary clinton, maybe a little bit. >> you might be on to something. she's becoming a saint with all the lying -- >> i think it's kind of a miracle that hillary is still this popular because of how horrible she is, but it kind of shows that people do value no noteriety and being a good person or not. >> i'm surprised it wasn't taylor swift. >> i actually think she is pretty cool. if you put her at number one, she's off to a heck of a start for life. >> i love the fact that eleanor roosevelt has 15 wins and hillary clinton has 20. >> michelle obama is on there, so you'll see her on a ticket. >> and carly and oprah. not a fan.
2:44 pm
