terror attack. they asked people to stay away from stations. here in new york, police are working to keep people safe. rick leventhal joins us now with william bratton. >> and special agent rodriguez is here as well. congratulations on a night safe so far. police commissioner william bratton. i know you have hundreds of extra officers this year. why did you ramp things up? >> the way the world's been going the last couple of years with the emergence of isis on the stage, recent events in paris, those in california. fortunately in new york we have extraordinary resources to ramp up. both in the fbi and the new york pd. so we have a lot of extra resources tonight. we don't think we're going to need them, but i think the public appreciates having them around. >> so far so good. any incidents to report at all

in. >> not at all. it's the greatest show on earth tonight. >> rochester new york think canceled their fireworks, that's nothing something you ever considered? >> no, we have no threats directed against this event that we're aware of, that we're mindful of. rochester, their circumstances are different. they have an activist that they arrested earlier today, and they erred on the side of caution. so you have to defer to their immediacy, their issue. but here on the square, as you can see, it's so far so good. >> you have agents working around the clock monitoring chatter and that sort of thing, and things look good so far? >> exactly. our joint terrorism task force is up and running. we have our intelligence operation center going in conjunction with the nypd. when you have all the law enforcement here, it's quite a deterrent. >> it's almost like your super

control over what happens to you. you know, if you get a good education in this country, it really doesn't matter what your background is, you basically get to write your own ticket, so i guess what that means for us as a nation is we need to make sure that we afford a good education to all of our people, because we only have 330 million people, and we're competing against china with 1.4 billion, and india with over a billion, so we have to get the bang for a buck out of all our citizens. >> dr. carson, there was a bit of news out of your campaign today, a couple of your top guys resigned. tell us the state of your candidacy, where you're going, how are you looking for 2016, have those positions been replaced? >> well, you know, we did a deep dive and recognized that there were some areas of deficiency. having said that, must recognize that the team that we had, you know, took a very unlikely

scenario. a complete outsider and put them into a competitive position where nobody thought that was remotely possible. so kudos where kudos are needed. but in fact, you know, we're moving into a different phase now, and we need something different, and we brought that in to place, i think people are going to see a very major difference. we have operators now. and this is what i've seen in the corporate world. you have to have people with very good ideas, but you have to have operators in order to effectuate those ideas. >> and dr. carson, i really love your message, going back to education, the value, the importance of it. i know you credit that and also your mother to helping to create you to be the man that you are today, and with education alive, and you have the lives that you have touched. and now as you seek the

nomination for gop for president of the united states. >> it's been a real privilege to be able to get engaged. my wife candy and i started the carson scholars fund. people said there are too many scholarship programs, don't bother. and yet, it is now operative in all 50 states and the district of columbia and reading room program, too, right? >> yes, we have over 130 ra 130g rooms around the country, and this is a place where kids don't want to pass up and they're enjoying learning reading. >> my wife said i love candy carson. what's it like to be sitting next to that guy, to be part of that guy? you've got to be pretty proud of her as well? >> she's the best. the lord gave her to me. it was the best gift he ever gave me. >> keep sayin' it.

>> well, we'll be all over it. i can hear partially every other word. we'll be basically all over the united states. we'll be in mississippi on saturday. and we just got back as you know, from south carolina, iowa, new hampshire, sort of all over the place and we love it. >> what has been your favorite thing out on the campaign trail about meeting the people? >> well, i love the people. and i realize how smart the people are. they get it. and they want to see good things. they love the country. they want to see great things happen for the country and that's what's happening. i love the people. the crowds have been amazing. we're having 10, 15, 20,000 people at every event. we just had a great time. it has been an amazing time. >> hey, donald, i hope he can hear this. do you have a message for the democrat front-runner hillary

clinton? >> well, i didn't really hear your question. >> do you have a question for hillary clinton? >> i think i'll be her worst nightmare but we'll find out. look, she won't do the job. we're going to do the job and we'll do some really special things. we have to really work to make our country great again and we're going to do that. we're going to do that. we'll do it tirelessly and we'll have a lot of fun doing it. and everybody will do it together. so i look forward to it. if it is hillary clinton in the race, i look forward to going against her. >> and what is your message tonight to the military and veterans in this great country? >> we're going to rebuild our military. we'll make it so strong, so powerful that nobody will mess

with us. and we'll take care of our vets. our vets have been totally mistreated. you know that, i know that, everybody knows that. we'll take care of our vets and build our military so nobody ever is going to mess with us. >> could you ask him, he is hearing you. the message to the other republican candidates. >> what is your message tonight to the other gop candidates? >> well, i have a very big lead and we intend to keep it. that i can tell you. we have a very, very big lead. i look at your numbers. i'm looking at all the numbers you're putting up and they're very impressive. we have a very big lead and i intend to keep it. not because i want the job but i want to do something great for the country and great for the people. so i hope we'll carry it out and get it done. february 1st is a very important date. that's iowa. then we have new hampshire, then south carolina. and we're going right through. i think we'll do very well. i hope so. >> all right. let's talk about resolutions for

reflections on your candidacy? and what you can offer the country? >> well, i'll let ivanka give that a shot. they want to know if you have any feelings as to my candidacy and what i can offer to the country. >> well, i think -- it's a little distracting with this in the back ground but i think my father is incredible. i've seen him my whole entire life. as a child and an executive working alongside him. nobody will do better at creating a jobs in this country which is so important to the vitality of the whole system. from a jobs perspective, from a strength perspective, and just generally creating a brand for america around the globe that is respected once again. so i'm very proud of him. i'm so proud to see how his message is resonating with so many people and i'm very excited to be off an amazing 2016.
