the whole system is rife with suspicion. he doesn't trust you, don't trust him. since this is his last shot at a legacy, make way for gitmo and guns. if firearms are what caused san bernardino. then firecrackers made those men rape those women in cologne. any small action makes us worry about it being something bigger. the law of incremental threats, if he says background checks, we hear he's taking away our guns. if you say it's radical islam, he thinks you hate brown people. suspicion is palmolive and after eight years we're all soaking in it. it's too bad, we could use a hefty doan of unity right now if our values are seen as obstacles to wider notions of change, then suspicion is all we have left. and so the president and america, we're like a married couple in divorce court. we get the house, but he gets everything else. there's an interesting tweet
2:02 pm
that came out kimberly, maybe you should address this. it's a nice picture of the president getting ready for his last there he is he looks very happy. he's a very handsome man, let's face it. >> now for the real. this is his last chance, right? this is his grand stage he's going to have to cement, seal his legacy to address the country, his last at bat as we say in fast-pitch softball. so this is the way it's going to go. there's going to be a lot about all the great accomplishments, so that the united states of america or the world has ever seen. he has a lot of things in play that have not gone well for him. but don't expect him to even highlight any of those, it's going to be all about the positive attributes of his legacy, where we need to go as a country and where we need to go as a world view.
2:03 pm
eagerly like children seeking candy on halloween. >> eric are you excited about tonight? >> i'm excited you used the palmolive reference, imagine. it madge, it's amazing. >> there will be no promises of policy coming forward. he knows he'so get anything through in the next year. that's his last year. you'll hear the accomplishments. he'll come out of with his employment rate and stock prices have gone up and home prices have gone up. i put together a few numbers of my own that he's not probably going to talk about tonight that millions of people have literally quit looking for jobs, left the workforce, that's the labor participation rate under obama has gone down. america's lost manufacturing jobs in the time president obama has held office. lost them. hasn't created a lot, we lost manufacturing. but we gained part-time jobs. median household income has gone down under president obama. personal savings have gone down
2:04 pm
under president obama. student loan debt has doubled under this president. seven years in the history of student loan debt, he's doubled it. and the number of people on food stamps has soared 50% on president obama. all the good news you hear tonight about statistically. i have statistics about the broken middle class promises. he can give us a call. >> you forgot health care. >> health care prices have gone up. >> i'm stealing every single thing. i wrote it all down this is good stuff. oh man, i'm going to kill. >> now they've heard it. >> never mind, i'm not going to do it. this is sound on tape. this is president obama talking about the divisiveness that has either gotten better or gotten worse. not sure how to phrase it. >> you will be looking out over a room that's as divided as it's ever been. do you see it a as failure of
2:05 pm
your presidency? >> it's a regret. coy not be prouder of what we've accomplished. sometimes we look at the past through rose-colored glasses, it's been pretty divided in the past. there have been times where people beat each other with canes and things like the civil war. but there have a been times where it's been pretty rough. but there's no doubt that politics and washington are so much more divided than the american people are. >> is he going to seek an upbeat tone? >> you say a b-12 shot before he goes on? it was a little early this morning, i guess. can we pull up the picture we showed at the beginning? the one that the white house tweeted out about president obama? a picture says 1,000 words, in my opinion. this is an official -- this is, this is the photograph, the image that the white house wanted to present today. and they have a paradox.
2:06 pm
23% of people are satisfied with the direction of the country. so the president's look there, the smugness like this is my final one and i'm out of here, guys, is in contrast with the 23%. the white house will say look, jobs are up, gas prices are low, we're out of two wars, what's not to like. more people have obamacare, everything is great. the problem is that his rhetoric is not matching people's reality. what they see, what they feel is their reality and i think that that picture from in my opinion, it sent the wrong message. >> it was a weird picture, juan. you probably feel pretty upbeat. you were very happy when he was elected. do you think he's accomplished what he set out to do over these seven, eight years? >> no, i think there were some things he was totally blocked on. but if you look at the state of our economy today, i think the state of our economy is much better, we've had consecutive months of job growth. clearly the economy hasn't
2:07 pm
rebounded in the way it has in the past. so people are saying seems to me i feel like it's not going as well as it should be. but the fact is that the which he is slowly gaining ground. and yet unemployment is almost at nonexistent level at this point. >> eric's point seems to be looking to drag the country down. >> those are facts. >> those are not facts. because -- >> let me tell you the facts -- i think 5% unemployment is incredible. >> because millions of people have left the workforce. >> no, no. because people are getting older, retiring, making different decisions, that's the way you think. that's fine. >> bars and restaurants and part-time work. >> i'm telling you that is not the reality. the second thing i would say to you is, you look at across the world, so let's get away from my argument with eric about 5%
2:08 pm
versus people deciding that they are dropping out of the workforce. let's move along. let's leave it alone. let me leave it alone. we had a tremendous recession. let me say take the bigger perspective, which president obama mentions in the interview with lauer. he said this is the strongest economy in the world. >> because the world is in bad shape. >> okay. so in other words we're not citizens of the world? oh yes we are. >> we aren't. we are better than the world. >> we still are. that's the point. and the second thing is -- >> our playing by obama bingo numbers. >> we still have and we still are and this is what pete pointed out there is no existential threat to us. we remain the strongest nation on earth. able to control that. and he said clearly, if you step back and look at where we've come from since the recession, we have made tremendous progress. i think that's the reality. but again, i don't think that most americans feel that way.
2:09 pm
>> what juan didn't get all that out, he's going to get a time-out from valerie jarrett. he has his little four cards all ready to go. >> i commend you for trying to fight facts with emotion. >> i wonder who does that around here? >> can we talk about iran. i'm going to read this verbatim. i just heard about this but a senior defense official tells fox news that two navy vessels were headed to kuwait to bahrain when we lost contact with them. it appears they went into iranian territorial waters. the navy sailors are currently being held on farsi island, a tiny island in the middle of the persian gulf, controlled by the iran's revolutionary guard. none of these vessels were disabled. the u.s. navy has been informed by aaronian authorities that they are holding the sailors. until like their safety and well-being is insured and i guess they will be allowed to
2:10 pm
continue their journey. big deal, dana? >> the iranians never miss an opportunity to get in on a pr scene. they know that president obama has his final state of the union tonight. all eyes will be on him. they like to do little funny business. i would say is obama should say to the iranians tonight that we expect our sailors to be released immediately and we want our hostages that you're holding in jail, we want them on the same ship, on their way back to american waters. >> is this something or nothing? >> it's nothing, but it could become something. which is kuwaiti waters, saudi waters. if two boats full of sailors venture into iranian waters, you would expect them to get picked up. it's a mistake on our part. but they should quickly return them. >> it's all a plan. you know what -- any time iran is doing this and has u.s., soldiers, americans in custody.
2:11 pm
it is a big deal. until they're back home safely we take it seriously, and iran shouldn't be playing around like this. they should get punished. >> i think it's a very big deal. i'm surprised that my friend here didn't mention it. but i thought, i the fact is that the iranians fired the missile last week. and the obama administration, was set to impose sanctions, pulled it back from the congress. so i think we're in a dicey situation, there's pressure on the president coming not only from conservatives, but from others concerned in the middle east, the saudis and the like. that you are too liberal to compliant. >> lenient. >> lenient with the iranians, you got to be very clear with these guys. here comes the iranians holding some americans and don't forget, the rationale offered this weekend for why we didn't impose the sanctions was one, they were thinking about releasing some of the americans being held in jail. and two, we don't want to screw
2:12 pm
up the nuclear deal, which is more important. but now with this, i think it puts more pressure on the president, to say you guys better stop. >> far greater of a threat was that the ballistic missile test. >> i wonder if it hurts to be led around the nose like that. >> i don't know, ask jasper. state of the union coverage begins at 8:55 p.m. eastern with mr. brett baier. he's going to join us to preview it. and at 11:00 p.m., megan ka meg will have post-address analysis. i'm billy, and i quit smoking with chantix. i decided to take chantix to shut everybody else up about me quitting smoking. i was going to give it a try, but i didn't think it was going to really happen. after one week of chantix, i knew i could quit. along with support, chantix (varenicline) is proven to help people quit smoking. chantix definitely helped reduce my urge to smoke.

the gop presidential candidates have only two more chances to make their cases dlikt to the american people before the first vote in iowa. the line-ups were announced last night for the debates on the fox business network on thursday, for the 9:00 p.m. eastern it will be trump, cruz, rubio, carson, christie, bush, kasich and at 6:00 p.m., the line-up is set at paul, fiorina, huckabee and santorum. but it will just be the latter
2:17 pm
three because rand paul says he's going to sit that debate out. bring it around quickly, on whether this is a good idea or not. >> for rand? i like a person that has the stick-to principles, i don't think this is the best idea if you really want to win an election. he said he has a first-year campaign. i think that the process actually works. at this point if your candidacy is not catching fire in the early states then you get weeded out. and it's interesting to me that he would make this decision, at this point in the eliks election psych until 2012. rick santorum was not even hitting double digits yet in iowa. three weeks to go, he went on to win it. so i think it was maybe a little premature decision. but i think it's good for the other three candidates, they'll get more time. >> good or bad choice? >> i think this was his way of getting out. because we know it's time for a few people to hit the road. it's like at a high school party when everybody is pairing up except for a few people. those people have to leave. >> oh, my god. you're the meanest.
2:18 pm
>> i don't know what i'm talking about. >> they can pair up with each other. >> has that ever happened to you? >> they're all undesirable. it's getting awkward for him. >> what have you fallen into? >> he'll probably be on some tv network at that point, right? >> i'm sure he's going to try to do his own kind of programming, absolutely. get in and the numbers are huge for these debates. don't miss an opportunity to reach an audience, to sell yourself. to engage the voters, we've seen people be in the early debate. they jump to the main stage quickly at the next event. we've seen it with carly, with christie. there's a lot of interplay. it's a crucial time now with iowa coming up quick-the heels. new hampshire, everything in play now. make it or break it. >> should he sit this one out or -- >> i'm trying to imagine what his strategy is and i think what his strategy is, his dad's strategy. his dad's strategy was to say this is arbitrary, capricious.
2:19 pm
i raised a lot of money. my supporters this is the mainstream media terrible, they're hurting us and they don't want to listen to me. so you know what his dad did? his dad used it to raise more money. to stir up the base, i remember they had like a readers poll and they were protesting against sean hannity. i think he's going to do the same thing. >> i would have loved to have seen him on the debate stage. >> he does well in the debates, i would love to see him on there. >> can we talk a little bit about what joe biden said today? i want to get to you in a second, but what timing today. joe biden says that he kind of wishes he was, he didn't pull out or decide against running? and also, that bernie sanders is genuine and hillary clinton is new at being genuine. it feels like joe is trying to figure out if she doesn't perform in iowa and new hampshire is there an opening for him to get in? >> no, there's not. but i think it's clear that he wants people to pay attention to what he has to say. he's not getting on the clinton
2:20 pm
bandwagon, no way, no how. >> then what? >> what do you mean? >> the point is if you want to be in the game. i wish he would have gotten in, to be honest. i would have much preferred him than hillary -- >> what if -- >> at least this is a person of some character and integrity. >> what if she doesn't perform well and she gets indicted on top of it? >> you have sanders/trump. which could be one of the most interesting things you will ever see. >> we need a guy, just i'll chip back and shut up to the republicans. we need what's called a break shot when you knock all the balls, everywhere in billyards. we need that at this debate. because nothing is changing. we keep saying the sail thing over and over again. we need a break shot, we need something that spreads it out. somehow. >> don't you think that right now -- on that stage you have the number one spot, trump. number two, cruz, number three,
2:21 pm
rubio. number four, carson. carson looks to me to be in a, death spiral right now. beyond that i don't see that the other guys are really in this game. i think you have had a break shot. right now it's down to those three and the question is does cruz stay up or is cruz falling away? biden, i don't want people to live with regrets. and if you regret that -- there's no do-overs in politics. or when you're in i learned tha bush, that you make a decision, you stick to it and you move on. if he's that regretful in that he's going to be the achilles heel of the clinton campaign, i think that's going to make for a very uncomfortable year for all of them. for himself personally, i hope that he decides he made the right decision and move on. >> as much as he loves the democratic party, should they have the best candidate go up against the gop challenger?
2:22 pm
>> think about joe biden said that president obama offered to help him with his finances during the loss of his son bo. i mean if you -- beau. if you're a conspiracy theorist, you p ut this together. we know that the obamas and the clintons don't like each other. >> thursday on the fox business network it's going to be an exciting night. ahead, hillary clinton's lead over sanders in the early states evaporates, now she's scrambling to secure her base, next.
2:27 pm
ahead of hillary clinton in iowa. her vanishing lead could be why she's moving left to secure the base. here she is at a diversity forum yesterday. talking about how she's benefitted from being white. >> i'll tell you when i first realized that i was privileged, both because i was white and because i was economically stable. when i was about 11 years old, our church asked if some of us would volunteer to baby sit for the children of migrant workers on saturdays. because the families had to go into the fields. i'm watching these kids and their families, they have to work so hard. and the place they live is not very nice. i didn't call it a particular name. but it was a different life. >> why don't we go to you first, there was criticism from the
2:28 pm

2:30 pm
of the income spectrum more. even though they pay for most of the things in general all across. that's all bs. she's not moving left. she's jumping and flying left. 4% additional charge on corporations. we're trying to drop the corporate tax rate. we're at the highest. everyone else thinks by lowering the corporate income tax rates, we'll create jobs, bring the manufacturing jobs that we talked about in the a block back to america. raising that will drive jobs away. this is an insane idea. i wonder how all of her wall street buddies think about that? i want to ask about this, she's had troubling words about police in america at a diversity forum that was yesterday. >> we have all kinds of threats in our country. and i wouldn't discount any of them. i think when you have police violence that terrorizes

communities, that doesn't show the respect that you're supposed to have from protecting people in your authority, that can feel also terrorizing. >> so she's watering down the verb of terrorizing. by suggesting that it's police doing the terrorizing. >> i don't think she's watersing it down. think she means what she says, it's whoic. anybody who is proud and wearing the uniform. the men and women serving in blue every day. protecting communities across this country. should be horrified. what is wrong with you, hillary clinton? that you would even suggest this and say that law enforcement is terrorizing? terrorizing? communities? like she's putting them on the level of isis. this is so far out of play. she's acting like a concerted effort by law enforcement in this country to go into communities to pick, choose, target, terrorize. that couldn't be further from the truth. >> there was no data. it's like if you're going to talk about this, at least bring
