as well not just in politics. some people are arguing that the waters out here aren't very warm. just about 68 degrees fahrenheit or so. lower 70s. that's the range across that part of the world. that's a little unusual to see a hurricane forming out there. but there's such a big difference in temperatures between the atmosphere and the relatively warmer waters. that's what allowed this storm to form and become a hurricane. it does have tropical characteristics. looking at satellite, it's started to change and deteriorate. it's going to bring in hurricane impacts. we're looking at strong winds, hurricane-force at times and the potential for a storm surge and dangerous flooding. that's what we're looking at out there. the storm keeps moving northward and losing tropical characteristics. along the east coast, rough weather. an area of low pressure developing now across the southeastern u.s. bringing in a lot of heavy rain throughout the day today and then it tracks up the east coast, but hey guys,

number two nationally in toy number of polls. and so, the people who are behind ted cruz in the polls, particularly marco rubio, really threw the kitchen sink at him. didn't he? >> yeah, i mean if marco rubio hopes to become the nominee he's got to go through ted cruz at least in iowa and new hampshire. running third in iowa. he's probably, you know, at least margin of error tied with cruz in new hampshire. so last night he tried to go at cruz as being a false conservative. cruz hit back on marco rube crow for some of his flip-flops. watch this. >> you don't get to say we need to secure the borders, and at the same time try to give barack obama more authority to allow middle eastern refugees coming in -- >> ted cruz you used to say you supported doubling the number of green cards. now you say that you're against it. you used to support a 500% increase in the number of guest workers. now you say that you're against it. you used to support legalizing people that were here illegally. now you say you're against it. you used to say that you were in favor of birth right

the debate and nikki haley was right there, donald trump was prepared he said you know what? nikki haley is a friend and when she said i was angry, i am angry, because this country is a disaster. and he said, i'll stop being angry after i fix it. >> he had a lot -- the pundits say that was brilliant on donald trump's part he seemed like a true politician and he is starting to get better every single debate that happened. right now though our guest is former florida governor jeb bush, and one of your big moments of the night, governor, you there? >> yes. >> great. >> good morning. >> nice to have you. one of your big moments of the night was when you took on donald trump after praising south carolina governor nikki haley's rebuttal to the state of the union address. you praised her. and hit donald trump on his muslim ban. we're going to take a listen. >> we don't have to have refugees come to our country. but all muslims? seriously? you cannot make rash statements and expect the rest of the world to respond as though, well, it's just politics.

>> i want security. i'm tired of seeing what's going on between the border where the people flow over, people come in, they live, they shoot, i want security for this country. >> and governor, did you win on that? or did he? >> i thought i won, because we're running for the presidency of the united states. you need to be serious about these things. of course we have to control the border, there's no reason to bring refugees without having confidence that they should -- there's a good, proper screening process. but then to say ban all muslims, that means all indonesians, all many indians, pakistanis who might be contributing in some way to the fight of terror. they're not allowed into the country? it's just not a rational thing. donald likes to push things out, say outrageous stuff and then walk them back. at some point, you know, people are going to have to wonder, is that how you run the presidency? is that how you lead our country? is that how you lead the free world? and the answer is no. >> governor, was he saying -- you know, correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think donald trump has said he's going to ban

all muslims. i think he said we were going to take a temporary ban on having muslims -- refugees come into this country, and immigrants, as well, until we figure out the problem. >> yeah, immigrants as well. that's the point. ban all muslims is what he said. that's how it garnered the attention for everybody to, you know, focus on him. of course we should have a system where refugees are screened. the fbi director has made it clear that right now there isn't adequate procedures to assure that islamic terrorists aren't in the midst of refugees. so, that part i get. i don't think there was anybody on the stage that disagrees with that. but from a position of the united states leading, how are we going to lead a coalition to take out isis, and to bring stability for our own national security if you ban all muslims? that just makes no sense. >> to follow up on that, governor, isis has vowed to infiltrate the refugee system and we may have seen that, or at least some bad eggs there in europe after chancellor angela merkel brought in so many. so how would a president jeb

bush do things differently? >> well, i think we should have a pause button for refugees coming to our country. we also ought to tighten up the visa waiver program so that european citizens that have traveled extensively into the islamic terrorist areas don't come in automatically like other citizens from europe would come in. we need to make sure that passports aren't falsified. we need to reauthorize the patriot act including all of the tools in the tool kit. there are things that we have to do to protect the homeland. this is a dangerous time. we need a serious president to do it. and we have to lead the world. we can't isolate ourselves from the rest of the world and push them away. we need to lead the world if we're going to be serious about protecting the homeland. >> i know hillary clinton was a common theme last night. she's likely the opponent of whoever the nominee is. you had this line to talk about not only her foreign policy but her legal problems. >> hillary clinton would be a national security disaster. think about it. she wants to continue down the

path of iran, benghazi, the russian reset, dodd-frank, all the things that have gone wrong in this country. she's under investigation with the fbi right thank you. if she gets elected her first 100 days, instead of setting an agenda, she might be going back and forth between the white house and the courthouse. we need to stop that. >> funny line. >> you believe, governor, that the problems are that bad and your sources say the indictment could be coming? >> i don't -- i only get my news from "fox & friends" so that's all i get. all i'm saying is that she's under investigation by the fbi. just pause and think about that. that's not -- that's a pretty uncommon thing for a presidential candidate. and each and every week it just seems like there's more information. now there's according to fox again there's -- there's expanded investigation on the connection with the clinton foundation. this is -- this is a serious deal. so, i'm -- look, i want to win. i think the republicans need to win. we need to unify. hillary clinton would be an

unmitigated disaster for ideological purposes. but she also has this legal problem that would really undermine our country. >> well, governor, she does have that legal problem. and we've had people here on fox who have said that it's reaching critical mass at the fbi. they've got plenty of information. they've got the goods on perhaps charging her. but then again they're going to present it to the attorney general of the united states. >> yeah. >> and then it becomes political. so, if the attorney general decides, you know what? it's not that big a deal, and they don't go ahead and advance the criminal case, what does that say to you about politics? >> well, first, the information will be out. and she's untrustworthy at a minimum. she does not tell the truth. today, the benghazi movie comes out, and she lied about that to protect the re-election of barack obama. that's how they roll. they're incredibly political. these are positions of national responsibility, everything is seen through a political lens.

i will take it to her. because my record is an open book. her record is one where we have to get it all pried out by an fbi investigation. and i think that's what americans want to have a president that is open and transparent, that is honest with them. that focuses on them, not about their own personal ambition. >> governor, do you think that the headlines are right today, a lot of them say now it's a three-person race, cruz, rubio and trump. your feeling? >> i don't think that's true. i'm heading up to new hampshire tonight, and i'm looking forward to campaigning actively over the next few weeks, in iowa and new hampshire and south carolina, where we have the best ground game in all three of these places. i'm in it to stay and i feel really good about where we are. >> do you think there's -- has your dad gave you any advice because he had to deal with a surging candidate in pat buchanan and you also talked last time about your brother coming out especially in new hampshire. where are you at with that? >> well, it hasn't been determined exactly how to go

will happen, one coming up here shortly, and another one this afternoon, where business owners will learn what to do if an active shooter opportunity happens in their shop. now police will take these business owners through what to do. also what to do when police arrive on the scene. because we know, as the video you're showing, this is chaotic. there are things going on all over the place, it's hard to think, it's hard to remember what happened. so police officers are going to train these business owners in how to react with the shooter, and how to react with law enforcement as they arrive on the scene. chief michael daniel, the police chief here in miriam, says, quote, our top priority is keeping the community safe and businesses play a big role in this community, of course, and this is a type of training we hope nobody ever has to use. but, of course, it is always better to be prepared. and here in kansas, as many of you know, we are in south of kansas city missouri kansas is a

he used to lobby members to support tpa, and then four months later all of a sudden he flips on it. and we saw him flip his vote on crop insurance on the senate floor. i mean i was standing right there. and then last week ethanol again in iowa. so my point is, the only thing consistent is the consistent political calculation that i'm going to change my position if it helps me politically in a given moment. and so don't run as a consistent conservative if, in fact, you have consistently calculated your positions. and that's what he's done. again it came up because he launched into an attack. and so i responded with his record. not with an opo dump with his record. >> another moment of the night where you shined was when you took on hillary clinton and her lackadaisical handling of national security information on her private e-mail server and also firing up your base on gun rights. let's take a listen. >> hillary clinton is disqualified from being commander in chief of the united states. someone who lies to the families of those four victims in benghazi can never be president of the united states.

conditions across some islands across the atlantic, the azores. we could be looking at flash flooding out there in addition to storm surge being a dangerous concern so that's something to watch there. but taking a look at the radar in a nationwide level you could see we have some activity across the western u.s. that started to dissipate. much heavier rain across the southeastern u.s. out there we're looking at heavy rain, and it's forecast to continue today across parts of the carolinas, also into the mid-atlantic, and then this storm tracks up the east coast, it's going to be bringing in some strong winds across the northeast this weekend, and because temperatures are going to be relatively above freezing for most of the region, it's mostly going to be a rain event. it's going to be looking like the interior parts of the northeast could be looking at some winter weather we have winter storm watches in effect across places like new hampshire and also in maine. potentially more than a half a foot of snow forecast there. and for other areas in southern new england, like massachusetts, and also parts of vermont, you could be looking at some freezing rain in combination with some light snow from the storm system. so it is going to be dangerous

administration they'll know we're going to keep it. >> very interesting you got the independents and republicans going out high. >> really, really high. christie had a great night last night. a lot of people aren't talking about him but he did. absolutely scored an "a" with republicans, and independents. but the interesting thing there, i mean it didn't look like the democrat line wasn't so high except that he probably did the best with democrats of any candidate that we saw. >> i guess so. now, not necessarily -- necessarily won't help you now but help you if you get the nomination. >> yes. >> talk about ted cruz. you thought he had a great night? >> i do. and so did our survey results. everybody without doubt said that cruz won. >> so the question is, is he american? let's talk about it. >> back in september, my friend donald said that he had had his lawyers look at this from every which way, and there was no issue there. there was nothing to this birther issue. now, since september the constitution hasn't changed.

but the poll numbers have. >> and he did admit a little bit later, yeah, you got closer so you might win so i'm going to bring this up. how did he do? >> he did really, really well. independents, republicans gave him an "a." even the democrats were good with it. he was a phenomenal debater. those short jabs, he was so well prepared. he handled it with grace, and people said, okay, that birther debate is going to be put to bed now, and people said he schooled trump and he's the first one to do it. >> when nikki haley had the retort to the president's state of the union address she talked about the anger of the republican side later she would say the anger of the republican side really meant amongst people donald trump. we asked donald trump about that on our show and he said it's amazing, nikki haley asks me for money and now she said i'm angry. then he thought about it again. he knew the question would come up especially with her in the audience. here's what he said. >> i'm very angry. because, our country is being run horribly. and i will gladly accept the mantle of anger. our military is a disaster. our health care is a horror

show. obamacare, we're going to repeal it, and replace it. >> so, and before that he said she said she's friends and i'm friends with her, too. >> yeah, it's fascinating. because what trump usually does, when he's criticized he doesn't try to defend himself. he leans into those criticisms and turns it around to something for himself. you saw the independent line and i think this is so important because when people talk about anger the independent's response over and over and over again, because i think the independents might be more angry than anybody else. so independents gave it "a" there, and that is remarkable. and something that we should really be looking at. >> overall you walk away thinking ted cruz dominated? >> overall, i do. i think it's hard to say -- trump also had a really good night. i think christie and rubio are sort of battling it out for third place. but what people told me, in the survey, was that cruz was the winner. >> all right. lee carter, thanks so much. >> thank you. >> results from last night. put it out to 2,000 people. all right meanwhile coming up straight ahead a fox news exclusive. we're about to break some pretty good news about what the presidential candidate the details are coming your way.

bush saying, quote, the jeb bush is best prepared to be commander in chief on day one. he is steady and ready. he understands the serious threats our nation faces and has a plan to keep us safe. a few minutes ago i asked governor bush what senator graham's endorsement means to him. >> well, lindsey graham is probably the most knowledgeable person on the hill as it relates to national security, military cy. and his endorsement is very meaningful. and along with it come a lot of friends and supporters of his. so i'm excited about it. >> remains to be seen exactly how much senator gram's endorsement means. certainly could help governor bush here in the state of south carolina. but, one thing we know for sure, if history is any guide, lindsey graham always seems to, during an election, wind up on the winner's bus. maybe a harbinger of things to come. >> think about this, john, you do have somebody, a lot of some polls have jeb bush tied in second in new hampshire. and then you follow it up with new hampshire with a few days

killed? i mean you don't go to war for this. be prudent about it. and stop this saber rattling particular a man like that who never served in the military. that is absolutely preposterous. i think that two other things that happened with ted cruz last night that i think donald trump kicked his butt. the whole issue of the birther thing, you can scoff it if you want, i think there's no doubt that there's a good portion of the american people now believe that that whole natural-born stuff is important. and when ted cruz mocked new york, new york, new york and ted cruz says donald trump has new york values donald trump in one of his few prepared answers, i thought, talked about the towers, talked about the trauma, talked about the recovery, the resilience of new york. everybody wants to live in new york. everybody wants to come from new york. i think that was another error on ted cruz's part. now back to the navigation. >> quickly. >> there is no doubt but that these sailors knew exactly where they were, if they were looking

remember these. those videos claim the pro-life or actually the organization claims that pro-life activists who filmed these videos did so illegally. the videos set off a real firestorm and a backlash showing what appear to be planned parenthood officials negotiating over the price of fetal tissue. the group that filmed them responded by saying, game on. republican lawmakers also pushing to cut off federal funding for planned parenthood. two texas middle school students suspended after one of them shared her inhaler with another to save the other child's life. india rush says that her classmate alexis kyle, who also has asthma started wheezing and gasping for air during gym class so india offered her her inhaler. well that landed both girls in the principal's office. listen to this. >> i'm getting in trouble but she's getting in trouble, too. she tried to help me. >> she saved her life. i mean, i didn't do anything bad.

leadership in the middle east to iran and russia. we must stand and lead. >> when you see two hits like that. one on hillary, one on donald trump, does that, in your mind, make the undercard the first debate very important? >> well, every opportunity to speak to the american people is very important. every single one. and that's why i will always take advantage of each and every opportunity. it's also true that yesterday yet another poll came out that said i'm sixth nationally. i'm tied for fifth in new hampshire with people who spent tens of millions of dollars on the air. i haven't spent a dollar yet. i'll be on the ballot on all 50 states. something many people on the main stage cannot say. i have leadership teams in 25 states, something many people on the main stage cannot say. i have robust ground games in multiple early states with something many people on the main stage cannot say. and i'll just remind all of you,

around money and the media. >> when the world trade center came down, i saw something that no place on earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than new york. and we rebuilt downtown manhattan, and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved new york and loved new yorkers, and i have to tell you, that was a very insulting statement that ted made. >> between the world class debater ted cruz and the world class businessman donald trump, who won the most points? peter johnson jr. >> we were keeping score last night. it was really an unlikely outcome between the ivy league world class debater, and donald trump, the sometimes angry businessman. i think donald trump came out big time on that exchange. ted cruz stepped in a way that he didn't realize that he was stepping in to it. kind of a divisive, statement about new york. what he failed to realize is

that people across the country in the heartland and the south, in the west, a lot of them like donald trump, and they know, based on his actions, that he is from new york. so this kind of clash, you know, regional warfare thing didn't work out at all for ted cruz. at all. >> speaking of ted cruz, there was a question that has been in the news a lot, maria asked him, and he accused her of taking "the new york times" hit job on him. but it's the fact that he admitted last night that apparently he this loan he gave himself, when he was running for election down in texas of about $1 million, he forgot to report it to the federal election commission. he received a loan from goldman sachs. he didn't at the same time he was running contemporaneously report it to the federal election commission. >> is this a big deal? >> it is a big deal. he says well it's a typical "new york times" things. that audience and a lot of audiences say "the new york times" is not fair and obviously they haven't been fair to him or to trump in the past.

but, to say, well, i reported after the election to the senate, at the same time say well i'm a populist, i've turned my back on new york, i've turned my back on wall street, and then take a million dollars and not disclose it, is a problem. what trump demonstrated last night, and i think it was very, very interesting, he was deft, he was articulate. he was emotional in a lot of different ways. he made a statement at the end of the debate about being with construction workers who were crying reacting to ten americans being held hostage by the iranians. and that americans should never again be on its knees. that touches a chord with americans. when he talks about stupidity. when he talks about hack politicians. when he talks about a new way, that touches the chord with a lot of americans. and so they say, listen, he's not embarrassed to be from new york. he's not embarrassed to be a wealthy businessman. he's not embarrassed to be politically incorrect. he's not embarrassed to be

during the early debate, governor mike huckabee made an impassioned plea against social security reform. >> so when i hear people say let's make people work till they're 70. that sounds great for white collar people who sat at a desk most of their lives. you ever talk to somebody who stood on a concrete floor for the first 40 years of their working life. you think they can stand another five or ten? many of them will retire virtually crippled because they worked hard. and we're going to punish them some more? i don't think so. our problem is not the social security. it is just too generous to seniors. it isn't. our problem is that our

politicians have not created the kind of policies that would bring economic growth. >> governor huckabee joins us now from charleston, south carolina. governor, thanks for being with us on "fox & friends." >> my pleasure. thank you. >> you've been shaking hands with a lot of folks on the campaign trail who are blue collar workers, and would be hurt, wouldn't they? >> they really would be. this is what i resent when people say you're not for social security reform. the best reform for social security is economic growth. if we got our economy growing at 4% we'd fully fund social security and medicare. rather than talking about how to cheat seniors out of their benefits, why don't we get the government off its rear end and get this economy growing again. and we can do that if we quit punishing the people who are working, and that's what our current tax system does. >> right. governor, the entitlements is probably one of the most important, but it's not the sexiest thing to talk about so we don't, for some reason. you did. you also know how to win in iowa. and you say one thing, you've

got to win iowa on the ground. you're doing that. does that make you doubt what the polls say? >> well it does, brian, in large measure because iowa has a long history of waiting until the last minute when we poll 5,000 people there just about three weeks ago we found that 75% of them had not made up their minds and they typically break late. a lot of things can happen in two weeks. we're doing 150 events in iowa this month. we're doing it because we still believe that there's an opportunity to surprise people every cycle somebody makes a surprise. i'll tell you the big surprise, the big surprise would be if we ever started electing people who would go to work for those folks that are being forgotten. and that's why i wanted to talk about things like social security last night. >> 17 days to close the gap. he's done it before. weiss going to try to do it again. governor mike huckabee, thanks so much. >> thank you, good to talk to you guys. >> more "fox & friends" in just moments. ♪
