hi, everyone. good morning. it's sunday the 24th of january, 2016. i'm anna kooiman. this is an extreme weather alert. the aftermath of the killer storm. at least 18 people dead in that record-setting blizzard that put major cities athe a standstill. shutting down some of the busiest street, leaving thousands of flights canceled. live team coverage tracking what's ahead. >> my flight was on that cancellation list, actually. now that the storm is gone the dig-out begins. what you need to know to stay safe as you shovel. and while much of the east coast is hunkered down from the storm, this guy had the best snow day ever. i saw this going viral yesterday, panda-monium. there wasn't much to do

yesterday. you had to be on the internet. ♪ >> that was the story in our nation's capital. also in new york city. boy, these are major metropolises shut down in a lot of way. >> people slipping and falling everywhere. power outages, flights canceled. it was an absolute mess. >> i saw someone skiing through times square, literally, yesterday. >> that was me. >> snowboarding behind a car through times square, no traffic. >> snowboarding? >> an american flag in tow. >> rocky? >> we couldn't get the video. we're going to need to see that >> that's incredible. >> we'll see. >> we're going to show all of that in a second. good morning to you. hope you're recovering if you were in the path of the storm. we begin this hour with an extreme weather alert. america's waking up this morning, getting ready to dig out after the blizzard of 2016

dumped more than two feet of snow on new york city and washington, d.c. >> the powerful storm wreaking havoc and claiming the lives of some 18 people. and this morning, as major cities deal with incredible snowfall totals, states like new jersey and delaware dealing with devastating coastal flooding. >> we are bringing you fox team storm coverage this morning, as the recovery and cleanup e begin. maria molina is live in washington, d.c. where the nation's capital was caught in the cross hairs. but first let's go to rick reichmuth who is tracking the latest on the deadly storm. >> good morning. so guys, what did you think? >> you mocked my tweet last night when i said thank you for finally stopping the snow. >> i know. a lot more impressive, i would say, in new york city than i think we had anticipated. than i had anticipated. the computer models that we like and we don't like as much, and the ones that we don't like as much, ended up being the ones that kind of nailed the storm. so difficult for us, right here in new york city, take a look at this. i got to go back and double-check this but officially

right at the second biggest snowstorm ever. yesterday was the snowiest single day we've ever had, at least in central park. jfk broke all the records, same. go to baltimore you why the snowiest you've ever seen. sometimes you break these records and you get it in one spot or an isolated spot. when you're talking about d.c. and baltimore and new york city breaking all the records, it's a powerful storm. take a look at these wind gusts. sometimes you get winds in hurricanes that don't verify this a. virginia, 85, 75 in delaware, 75 in virginia. very widespread event. take a look at some of the coastal flooding that occurred across areas of delaware because of this. i think we have some video here. there you go. you get an idea. in fact, in some cases in delaware, this was the highest-ever flood level they saw along the coast. you think some of the hurricanes that came through. hurricane sandy which didn't hit in the exact same spot.

but you get that from a storm like this and big problems. the snow is gone, guys. that is just a tiny little bit of it left across cape cod. real quickly to the temperatures. take a look at what begins to happen and give you a little bit of brie news here. into the 40s by tuesday and much of the coming week is going to look warmer. by next weekend probably into the mid 40s and melting a lot of this snow. >> which is welcome news for people who haven't gun shoveling yet. three deaths here in new york city simply from shoveling snow. so know your 4ri78 its and don't overextend yourself. also in washington, d.c. hunkering down as it's been on the forefront of this storm. maria molina has been on the ground from the very beginning. what are you seeing right now? >> well, we still have a lot of snow here laying around, and looks like we have a lot of work to do here. but behind me we have the capitol building. if you remember yesterday, we couldn't really see the building. there was a lot of snow coming down, we had the wind blowing snow around and lowering that

visibility. but for now, clear view of the capitol building. so the snow has ended here. and some of the totals range from 20 to 30 inches of snow across d.c. there was a dry spot that worked its way in during the late morning hours and early afternoon, and it kind of gave a false sense of security. we started to see children coming out to play. there were also many people starting to try to drive around. and unfortunately the snow picked right back up, and the conditions were even worse than they were earlier. so we saw very strong winds during the afternoon hours, and heavy snowfall rates returned, and that continued into the evening hours. so the totals again, ranging from 20 to 30 inches of snow, with the western suburbs seeing much more than that. now, unfortunately, people started coming out, trying to drive yesterday, and they were getting stuck on the roads. in a western d.c. suburb, there were even deer spotted out there. they were playing and frolicking in the middle of the street with the snow. and we personally hiked out to the monuments. i really wanted to see the monuments with a lot of snow and photograph them.

and had a nice walk home. >> it's almost like new york took a collective breath yesterday in some sense. the day was shut down, the roads were shut down, just quiet. i hope everybody -- >> stay inside and did some net flings binge watching. in fact, we've got kevin mccarthy coming up later in the show with some suggestions if you're still snowed in. >> we want to see your pictures so them in to us, friends@foxnews.com. we'll put them up here on the show. >> and cute puppy videos in the snow. some other stories on this sunday morning now, a frantic manhunt in southern california for three escaped inmates. authorities say hu sane and jonathan chu cut through half tiench steel bars at the santa ana jail then propelled themselves down the side of the building. i think that may be rappelled down the side of the building and then ran away. all three are considered dangerous.

authorities say the escape may have taken months to plan, and may -- they may have had some outside help as well. a $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to their arrest. and shot and killed while trying to help out during the snowstorm. police say the man stopped when he saw 27-year-old marvin jacob lee spin out on an ice-covered north carolina roadway. when he went up to lee, and called the cops for help, lee shot him multiple times we're told. police had to use an armored car and shields to get lee to surrender. he is now behind bars charged with murder. the united states is now prepared for military solution to take out isis along with turkey. vice president joe biden met with the turkish president yesterday. he said if the syrian government and rebel opposition forces don't reach a peace agreement, that's when the military will be involved. the next round of peace talks are scheduled to take place tomorrow in geneva. however they are at risk of being post paned because of a

dispute over who compromised the opposition delegation. and it's a panda-monium in washington, d.c. this is video clayton was showing you. the city's favorite resident is having a blast. you have to see this if you haven't already. the national zoo's behind panda tian tian rolled down a snow-covered hill. even making what was like a snow angel. and that's tian tian's baby bei bei. on the snow. zookeepers say he wasn't so sure what to make of the white stuff. and quickly went back inside to the warmth. all right. let's get over to elizabeth to the campaign trail we go. >> from donald trump while endorsements keep rolling in for ted cruz. >> and elizabeth has the latest from washington, d.c. good morning. >> good morning. you're right among a number of one-liners during this primary campaign we heard donald trump make this comment. >> they say i have the most

loyal people. did you ever see that? where i could stand in the middle of fifth avenue and shoot somebody and i wouldn't lose any voters. okay? it's like incredible. >> trump has referred to the loyalty of his support base but this comment triggered a response from some of his rivals or at least those who speak for his rivals. senator ted cruz was asked about these comments but he said mr. trump can speak for himself. however there is someone who is criticizing the front-runner for him. radio show host glenn beck who post boasts he has never made a presidential endorsement before and backs cruz. here's what he said on behalf of donald's comments. >> the arrogance is beyond imagination. we are as citizens required to judge his record. and his record is very clear. he is' lifelong progressive. >> beck was among a number of

>> hillary clinton continuing to deny any wrongdoing regarding her e-mails. but just this week investigators revealing intel on human spying in at least one e-mail on her server. in a week where we're also seeing general david petraeus facing a possible demotion from four stars to three, for his part -- prosecution on much less, how can the fbi and doj not pursue charges against clinton? here to weigh in, former deputy assistant director of the counterterrorism division of the fbi, terry turche, thanks for joining us this morning. >> you're welcome, good morning. >> we've been hearing from democratic spokesmen and others saying this just isn't a big deal, ultimately, you know, wasn't marked classified at the time. is this going away or is this a persistent big deal that yep ar diesed our national security? >> well, this is a huge deal. and i'm just at a loss, after having spent 40 years in government service, and just like you, pete, who handle

classified information, that the democratic party and hillary clinton and all of these people are so confused about what's classified, and what's not, and what the rules are. i've never really run into anybody that was confused who worked in the government this long. and to maybe set the stage and kind of explain why this is a big deal, there's 150 permanent and temporary fbi agents employees working on this task force, and to give you some sort of perspective, that's about the size of a small fbi field division. so you have an entire group of people who are looking at this, and they're interviewing hundreds of people, they're looking at not just hillary clinton, but all of the people that handle these e-mails, as they were being transmitted to her, and handled the classified information that was the basis for the pieces in the e-mail. >> sure so this is ongoing. not going anywhere soon. yet we hear in the news about david petraeus and they're going after him and his four stars, for sharing information about paula broadwell. one individual, yet in this

case, with hillary clinton, she was willing to share it on an unsecured server, with umpteen number of people. why is it -- why is this so much different? or is it that much different from what david petraeus did? >> well, i think that different people have different opinions, but here's the bottom line. this is actually much more massive than what david petraeus did. david petraeus was providing information, in connection with his future stories and books and things, i suppose, but this is information that came in, and then sat on an unclassified server, a personal server, in places we don't even know for a long, long time. and all sorts of information from what we're hearing in the public realm was on this. and for every peegs of information we've heard about, i'm sure there's many more that right now the fbi is looking at, and trying to pull together and make sense of, and again, to put it in context, this is all about detail. it's not about, did i receive something that had markings.

nobody's disputing the marking that this -- this is about what's classified information, essentially declassified by someone, and then placed in a classified, personal e-mail. they'll look at every piece of information on these classified communications that came in to the state department, and who logged them in, who then redued them. remember they're all kept in a skiff or in a particular location, particularly the higher the classification, and then they'll interview those people. and then they'll ask them who told you to change markings if, in fact, you did that and put this in her personal e-mail? that's the kind of detail they'll be looking at. >> you being in the counterterrorism division of the fbi have seen this. i was just a lowly infantryman but i still know when something was classified and needed to read it in a separate department, especially if it was a higher classification than top secret which we're hearing at least one of the e-mails was even higher than that. thanks for your expertise in

it, because they've been sedentary. people who exercise regularly, maybe they're overweight. people don't realize that shoveling snow is actually a major, major anivity. did you snow that it actually is worse in terms of raising your heartrate and blood pressure than running on a treadmill. a surgeon general report said it's the equivalent of bicycling five miles. plus you're using your upper body. you're out in the snow, on the elliptical and lifting weights at the same time. >> you say in 15 minutes. 15 minutes of shoveling that's what's equal to five miles on a bike. >> just 15 minutes. and the people that are doing it are not the same people that are usually exercising. so you can't go from a couch to -- and by the way, it's also, anna, goal oriented. so you don't want to stop. with a treadmill you get tired, you get short of breath, you stop. shoveling snow you say, got to get the driveway cleared. you slip, you hurt your back. there's several hundred heart attacks a year. >> our viewers, if you live next to an elderly couple or something, go over there and help them out. >> absolutely. great tip. >> the other thing that we need

to make sure to do is bundle up because of hypothermia. >> it's a huge problem because the first symptom may be getting confused. usually we have 98.6 our tell turl. but you know what? if it gets down to 95, you're going to start slurring your words. you're going to get confused and you may not get out of the cold fast enough. if i see somebody that's hypothermic i want to put them in warm blankets, get them to the emergency room right away. give them warm, intravenous. i want to use something to really warm them up quickly. sometimes i use something called ekmo which literally warms the blood. takes it out of the body and puts it back in. it's a very dangerous situation. >> also kids out there playing they don't realize their hands have been exposed for a long time. frostbite a major concern. >> this can occur within one or two minutes of being out in the cold. wear those gloves, wear those hats. a lot of heat escapes through the head. cover your mouth. but if your fingers start to tingle or to feel numb, that -- or to turn red that could be frostbite right away. get inside. start rubbing them, put them

under warm water. again, with the blankets. >> speaking of feeling numb, you know, some folks might say i'm going to warm myself up a little bit, have a drink or two, hot toddy. false warmth before i go out and shovel. good idea? >> she said it before we came out here, it's false warmth. it's false warmth. because you feel great, you know, even your cheeks may turn red. guess what isn't turning red? the inside of you. you know what? when you drink you lose your body's thermostat. you lose the ability to sense the cold. and then you're out there, you start getting confused from the combination of the alcohol and the cold. you're wandering around. really bad idea. you get dehydrated. you have to preserve 3w4r50d flow to your vital organs. you know what takes that away? alcohol. the worst idea. you get dehydrated. you get confused. and you're -- your skin gets colder and colder. very poor idea. >> while we're using apparatuses to help heat ourselves back up in our homes we need to worry about carbon monoxide poisoning and also fires, you say.

>> space heaters. you're not used to where that plug something put in. you can actually trip a cord. you can get a break in the cord. you can get an electrical fire. those devices that emit like propane and that kind of a heat, that can give you a gas fire. a lot of people in this kind of weather use the stove to try to heat the room, and that's an extremely bad idea because, again, the gas can leak. you can have gas fires. you can have an emission of carbon monoxide from these things and not know it. that is an invisible killer. we get a ton of carbon monoxide poisoning us -- >> i find outlets in my garage that i never knew existed plugging things into that you know we'll see. >> and you're plugging things in, that you haven't used in awhile. you plug them in you have a fire from it. very bad idea. especially in times when you see electrical -- electricity going out people are using these devices that they shouldn't be. >> hopefully people heed your warning. 28 minutes after the hour. coming up on the program on your sunday morning, stranded in the storm. a group of high schoolers stuck on a bus for more than 20 hours.

it over to rick. we're going to talk about this one. a highway is one of the worst places to find yourself when a blizzard strikes. but that's exactly what happened to a group of students. >> yeah, rick has all the details on what happened to these guys. >> you remember yesterday we had been talking about all those people stuck on a kentucky highway overnight. now we have the exact same thing going on on the pennsylvania turnpike yesterday. over 20 hours. a school bus, a bunch of kids coming back from the march for life rally going on in d.c., headed home, and they got stuck. also a college football team that was stuck. we're actually going to have somebody from that bus, though, on the show coming up in a little bit and talk about how they survived, how they handled being out in that snow and that cold for that long. snow that was blowing and causing whiteout conditions in pennsylvania, as well. so many areas that dealt with these kinds of things. keep sending us your pictures. got to tell you also, there's been a travel ban that's -- that was in effect in new york city. that will be lifted at 7:00. so people are able to finally get back out on the roads. all cars off of the roads, which meant that the streets turned

into pedestrianways because none of the sidewalks were shoveled yesterday at all. but that is about to be lifted so people can get back, at least in and out. want to just show you a satellite loop real quickly of the storm. 48 hours north of this storm, and there you go. across the south. look at how many people were impacted from this, from parts of the deep south, places as far west as arkansas. all the way up throughout massachusetts. snow in parts of florida, yesterday. you get the idea. an incredible storm. and such a widespread area that saw snowfall totals in the 20 to 30 range from virginia, west virginia, all the way up throughout pennsylvania, and new york city, breaking records all the way through, guys. this will be one for the history books. you always hear people talk about storm of '93. the blizzard of '93. this will be the blizzard of 2016. >> you watch that green part of that. i don't know anything about maps. i know the green means snow. it just hugs that coastline all the way around. it really -- it really came down. >> certainly did. >> all right, rick, thanks so

much. great job. 35 minutes after the hour. on to some other stories making headlines. this fox news alert. reports right now of a massive earthquake rocking alaska. the 7.1 magnitude quake shaking up the region. the large quake hit near pedro bay, just southwest of anchorage. right now we know buildings were rattled but no reports of any damage or injuries. the national weather service says a tsunami is not expected. at a hospital they say the flint river is responsible for legionnaires' outbreak that killed nine people there. the bacteria found in hospital's watt your sip ply where at least two patients with legionnaires' were treated. the county saw a spike in legionnaires' cases in the month after flint switched its water source to the river. thousands of children dealing with lead poisoning after drinking the water. passengers arriving at jfk airport are aloud to leave the hub without going through customs. american airlines passengers

have just arrived from cancun and were sent straight to the baggage claim area without having their passports or bags checked. a nearly identical incident happened back in november, also with an american airlines flight coming from cancun. how does that make you feel? washington, d.c. police taking the break from the storm for a pickup game of football. >> do it! higher, higher, higher! >> one officer using a textbook stiff-arm -- >> on a resident to score. >> wow. >> with the men in blue. >> here's the stiff arm. watch, watch, watch. oh! >> almost. well textbook. meanwhile, did you catch "saturday night live"? you know tina fey's send-up of sarah palin in the last election cycle had everyone laughing. people thought it was spot-on. even sarah palin herself said that. he went on "saturday night live" side by side with her.

>> looks kind of silly, but like this so they don't get frozen to your windshield. >> i saw a couple of cars last night the wipers were up but totally covers so all you could see were the tips of the wipers up. that might not actually help you. >> i think he's taken a little bit of a break. >> somebody get the man some coffee. >> it's amazing. when you have all of the streets right now being plowed in, so a lot of the parking garages, local businesses, their whole front entrances are totally blocked off. if you look at central park this morning, it's just gorgeous. that's where our find our julie banderas, overlooking the park as the sun comes up. how does it look there? >> hey, guys, yeah, you know, it's quiet. it's gorgeous. there's no cars on the road. i love that. i've never really seen that except for maybe two other times in the history of my living here. but here in central park, wow, what a winter wallop. we were expecting somewhere around 12 inches of snow, i'm not blaming the meteorologists because i know it's barely impossible, in fact, to predict exactly how much snow these kinds of storms come in and bring us. but let's just take a look if we

can. can we pan over to central park, if you will? we're above it. so let's just look down on what we have in front of us. snow totals in central park marking the second largest winter storm in new york city history since 1869. central park's weather station actually recording 26.8 inches of snow so far this storm. the record for the top slot is 26.9 inches of snow from february 2006. so it's just one tenth off of breaking that record. the winter storm did result in a travel ban across the city, and on long island. excuse me. ordered by the new york's governor. mta buses and above ground subway lines also shut down throughout the city. the reason, obviously meant to ensure the public safety. but to make sure that the thousands of snow plows could get out and properly do their jobs to clear the roads, and, of course, make for safe travel once the ban is lifted. and while hundreds of cars were towed no arrests as the mayor warned there would be if people violated that order. the travel of that ban basically

the city ban will be lifted at 7:00 a.m. no airports movement either. i mean i actually, 10,000 flights were canceled friday, saturday sunday in all. and all the lights were out on broadway, as well. but back to central park. i will say, you know, it was mostly quiet for the evening. you didn't see anybody actually driving around, although last night, while i was on the fox report studio i did spot a snow angel. it was a sighting of a snow angel. and so, of course, we at the fox report like to dig deep and here's what we found. >> all right. >> i love it. oh, my god it's too deep for a snow angel. >> oh, my gosh, somebody save brian. >> so basically, you know, safety is always my number one concern, and so i needed to test the snow out myself on the show to make sure it was safe enough for our kids to explore. >> okay. so we're going to see your snow angel video next, right, julie?

welcome back. travel a nightmare as major cities dig out under lofts snow. 10,000 flights canceled leaving some stranded for days. airlines have started to cancel flights for tomorrow too. a ripple effect. throwing a wrench into many people's travel plans. >> here is what the airlines won't tell you is kurt the cyber guy with tips. >> whether you're stuck or you plan to travel any time soon. in the future these tips will pay off no matter what. i'm talking about the recovery effort right now at airports all up and down the eastern seaboard. especially in the northeast. it is really difficult to get a flight home for those who were scheduled to find out that their flights are canceled. there are things that the airlines won't tell you. but we will, this morning. have a look at tip number one.

there are actually a lot more flights out there than the airlines are willing to tell you. why? >> well, there's just simply a whole bunch of flights this don't come up on their radar. they don't think about maybe sending you to canada to go down to the la vegas. it's a little tip. if you find that, they will book it for you. one little tip there. when airports reopen, something to think about, i'm trying to get to the west coast at this point, it really takes them approximately 12 to 15 hours, for example at jfk here in new york city to get going again. it is really a huge effort to get an airport turned back on. >> you also say don't wait at the counter. use twitter instead of standing in line. why? >> you know that. we're talking right now. you can call, wait on hold. you can also stand in line at an airport once you get back into the swing of things, but if you go on twitter to the airline's official handle and reach them there, it's an entirely

charmers. >> we'll have more from the skit that has everyone talking this morning. fox and frebds hour two starts right now. welcome to "fox and friends" on this sunday morning. this guy has been trying to dig out his car for the duration of the show behind my head. we'll see if he finishes it by the end of the show. countdown clock is on. good morning everyone. >> hope you're doing well. we're going to be talking about snow all morning long. we want to see your pictures. get those in. we'll get straight to the extreme weather alert. americans are waking up getting ready to dig out after the blizzard of 2016. it dumped more than 2 feet of snow here in new york city and washington, d.c. >> the powerful storm wreaking havoc and claiming the lives unfortunately of at least 18 people. as major cities deal with the incredible snowfall totals, states like new jersey and delaware dealing with devastating coastal flooding. >> we're bringing you fox team

coverage this morning. maria molina is live in washington, d.c. where the nation's capitol was slammed with snow. >> we'll get to her in a moment but first over to rick like man. >> cars are allowed to get back on the roads in new york city now. take a look at the video around the new york city area. in midtown manhattan, not that many cars. take a look at this. your cars are allowed to get back on the roads. good luck getting your car out of this. there's a few pictures that i took last night as i was walking around my neighborhood in brooklyn. there you go. brooklyn, they're all on their bikes. not on the bikes or in the cars today. you get the idea. it's going to be really tough. it's a good thing they put the ban in. it allowed them to get the plows through a lot of main streets. as of 9:00 last night, nothing going in brooklyn. still no plows had gone through that area. it will be rough to get the cars going out there.

however, hey, our camera guy, if you look up a little bit here, that's blue sky. it is clear skies right now. so we're going to be watching a much nicer day here. temperatures usually are very often behind the storm, especially in january, can get really, really cold. that is not going to be the case this time. so it is going to help the conditions. d.c., new york, back into the 40s by tuesday. overnight lows, freezing. the melting during the daytime will freeze the roads at night. be careful in the mornings heading to work. but it will help get rid of the snow quicker than we might normally see for a storm in january. guys? >> rick, yesterday about this time, you were looking behind you going where are these thousands of pieces of plowing equipment that the city is talking about. how is it looking. up to your standards? >> up to my standards? in the city, it looked a lot better this morning. everything is plowed, which is nice. there you go. you have to plow 2 1/2 feet of

snow and where do you put it? it just goes to the side of the roads and there were cars still, you can see underneath the piles are cars that had not been moved off the road. you have to have to plow around that. it's why you got to get your cars off the road before the plows come in. so it's better, fortunately, not a lot of cars today and still it's sunday. thank god, guys, this storm happened on a weekend. if this happened during the workweek, a weekday, this would have been a completely different story. >> absolutely. >> typically, run in tandem. i saw four going down the road yesterday at the same time. >> you look on the sidewalk, look at that block. it's going from the road to the sidewalk. you got to melt it somewhere. hunkering down in d.c. has been maria molina. she's been out there at the bull's-eye of this thing. the bull's-eye was so wide, up and down the east coast. maria, what are you seeing at this hour? >> reporter: here in d.c., we have a lot of snow mounds all over the place and the cleanup effort has already started.

some of the roads starting to look better as crews continue to do their work. we switched location. we still have the capitol building behind me. but there's a hill in front of the capitol building where kids usually like to go sledding down it. but they have been banned from doing that for decades. we talked to a cop abdomen he said they usually look the other way. they're officially allowed to sled here. we have our sleds and we'll be checking that out later this morning just for you for "fox and friends." hopefully it goes well. there has already been controversy brewing online about the snowfall reports here in d.c. i believe in reagan national, they're debating their method of taking that report. it's very important during such historic snowstorms because we need to know how much snow came down for record keeping and all that. then i saw another post declaring it the second highest snowfall in d.c. history. we'll keep you updated on that. 20 to 30 inches fell across this

area with locally higher amounts to the west of d.c. there was a brief period of time where we had a dry slot work its way in and keep the snowfall totals a little lower than were originally expected. the forecast verified here, 20 to 30 inches came down. people were told to stay off the roads. but unfortunately, some did not obey and ended up stuck on the roads. now the snowfall is gone and the cleanup begins. let's head over to you. >> who says that congress can't get anything done? they lifted the sledding ban. >> oh, good. >> it had been in place for decades when they passed the $1.1 trillion spending bill. >> part son move. >> we can get behind that. thanks, maria. what pictures did you take yesterday that you were out there with your kids? we want to see them this morning. send them in to us. there was a lot of people in new york, including all of us wandering through times square. >> i happened to walk through times square yesterday and there is a mountain of snow. >> which you don't see really

donald trump is constantly referring to his loyal support base. whether those who support his new york values or his poll numbers. this statement he made yesterday caught some off guard. >> they say i have the most loyal people. did you ever see that? where i could stand in the middle of 5th avenue and shoot somebody and i wouldn't lose any voters, okay? it's like incredible. >> this triggered a response if his rivals, ted cruz said mr. trump can speak for himself. there is, however, someone criticizing him. radio show glenn beck boasted he never made a presidential endorsement backed ted cruz. he's a wid-- here's what he sai about donald's statements. >> the arrogance is beyond imagination. we are as citizens required to judge his record. his record is very clear. he is a lifelong progressive.

>> he was among a number of political pundits who spoke out against trump in the latest edition of the national review. he's not the only candidate speaking of cruz seeing a big push ahead of iowa. marco rubio received high praises from the des moines -- endorsing rubio saying he has "the potential to chart a new direction for the party and perhaps the nation with his message of restoring the american dream." on the democratic side, they went behind hillary clinton as it did in '08. that's a state she did not win that election cycle. >> thank you so much. >> you know, state department is seeking an extension on the deadline for the latest batch of e-mails, too, and they're blaming the blizzard. >> interesting. let's take a look at the polls. take a look at this. this is a national poll right now. 2016 fox news poll. donald trump firmly ahead at

well, could there soon be a major wildcard in the race for the white house? former new york city mayor and billionaire, michael bloomberg is reportedly weighing a presidential run. a move that some would welcome. what kind of impact would that have on the sflas here to debate it is gop communications expert adam goodman and nicole graham. thank you for joining us. adam, let me start with you. where does he find his niche in this race? this has been a race about anger, frustration. how likely is it that he steps? >> it's interesting that we have a candidate that makes trump

look like an ordinary billionaire. his pathway to victory will be a difficult one. he's a social liberal, a fiscal conservative. not afraid to go against the grain. i think he did a good job in new york for the first two terms as mayor, a rocky third term. his challenge is how do you fit into a race where you have two major nominees. the last time this happened as you probably remember was ross perot who captured not a single electoral vote. i don't know how he vits into a winning formula. in a world full of surprises and campaign season full of twists and turns, bloomberg would shake things up a bit. >> nicole, adam raises that point. third party candidates had a tough road in american policy. almost have to look back to teddy roosevelt for an effect ul run. some think that bloomberg would pull from a democratic nominee. how would he fare in an election? >> i actually think that if you think about it, bloomberg is the

candidate for all seasons. most americans are moderates who want social, central social policies while having personal economic prosperity. i think you'll pull moderates from democrats and republicans. i think his candidacy spells trouble for both party's candidates. >> you think it does? one much his positions, put a lot of money behind it is gun control, against a lot of the polls of americans and how they feel about their relationship with the second amendment and not to mention 16-ounce drinks he wans wants to ban. >> it's unclear. obviously he's invested a lot of money, pushed gun control, climate change and other issues that don't always run with the grain of the establishment. it's unclear whether even this is his motivation for running. here's his issue. you want to talk about his real

challen challenge. this is a year where americans are looking for a more muscular stronger kind of leader as a successor to president obama. that's really not bloomberg's style. he's more of an intellectual, more soft-spoken. i don't know how that will play on the actual stage of this campaign. in terms of willing to take on some very, very tough difficult controversial issues, certainly michael bloomberg never shied away from a fight. >> absolutely. this is an interesting political season, no doubt. adam and nicole graham, thank you for joining us this morning. >> thank you. >> absolutely. thank you. new york city slowly coming back to life after getting more than 2 feet of snow. 26 inches in some places. a live report from the big apple next. plus, are you stuck inside this morning? kevin mccarthy has netflix picks to cure your cabin fever like some oldies but great shots like breaking bad.

welcome back. new york city getting way more snow than predicted. more than 25 inches in central park alone. that's where julie banderas is overlooking the park as the sunrises. >> what a view. >> look at that, julie. thanks for joining us. >> i have to say, i love my view more when the mayor and the governor make all the traffic disappear. this is awesome. i feel like i live in the suburbs. the winter wallop catching a lot -- also breaking records as the second largest snowstorm new york city history since 1869, which is quite a feat.

in total in fact, we got 26.8 inches in central park. let me ask our photographer jay to pan off my view so you can take a look. people are out walking on the streets. that citywide travel ban was lifted as of 7:00 this morning. but so far, i have not seen one vehicle on the streets as of yet. central park's weather station recorded 26.8 inches of snow so far for the storm. the record for the top slot is 26.9 inches of snow, which was back in february of 2006. so we're just off a tenth of an inch from breaking that record. but, again, the winter travel ban, obviously being lifted by 7:00 a.m. basically, there were no buses allowed, no subways traveling aboveground and no vehicles allowed. no arrests and there were no warnings if you were caught driving on the street you did face arrest. fortunately, the city that never sleeps did stay up all night. we just watched. back to you guys. >> we know how do best here in

great again. but this is a campaign from the institutional left. you look at some of the people that look familiar. rosie o'donnell, jane fonda. roseanne barr, danny glover. they've embraced dictators and defamed christians and denigrated america. yet they want standing to criticize the front-runner in the gop presidential candidate. it lacks credibility to me. also the thing to remember is, had trump's is attacked. his numbers seem to go up depending who attacks him. the far left in hollywood is doing campaign a favor, i think, his numbers will go up with enemies like this, you don't need endorsements. although he had some. he has willie robertson from duck dynasty. he has -- >> he's got sarah palin.

>> they say things like trump is a great threat to democracy, freedom, inequality, the welfare of our country and to all our people, how damaging is that when they literally are saying we're putting the media on notice? are they trying to silence the media? >> well, you know, the left loves silence of any voices that disagree with them. this is the institutional left. there are three co-founders. one was part of the legal team that tried to undermine the nomination of clarence thomas. another is the author of the vagina monologues and the third is a co-founder of code pink. i mean, we're talking about the furthest realm of the left, and it -- i mean, they must realize that this is not going to be effective for the primers. it's not going to reach the base voter of iowa and new hampshire. maybe they're trying to set up the organization for the general election because they're

>> welcome in to "fox & friends" on this sunday morning. take a look at your pictures right now. right to that extreme weather alert. millions waking up to at least two feet of snow in some places as the deadly blizzard of 2016 wreaks havoc across the east coast claiming 18 lives this morning. washington, d.c., and new york city, dealing with incredible snowfall totals as the cleanup effort begins. >> we do have live team coverage this morning. david lee miller along the jersey shore, brian in times square, maria in our capital and rick is tracking it all. start with david and there in new jersey, there's been some concerns over flooding, david lee? >> indeed. the sun is rising and so, too, this morning is the tide. we are just outside of atlantic city and margate. we are on an island surrounded by water. and as you can see for yourself this morning, some of thes residents are awakening to find water literally lapping at their

doorsteps. this is the scene this morning after much of the flooding that took place in the last 4 hours or so, has actually receded. the situation here is not that bad when compared to other communities in southern new jersey. let's go to some video that was recorded in wildwood and north wildwood. there we are told the flooding has been extensive. the mayor there saying that flooding, worse than superstorm sandy. a similar situation in another city in new jersey in sea isle, the mayor there also saying the situation very, very difficult. primarily because not only is there dif sults flooding now but the weather has been absolutely brutal. guys, parts of new jersey have received as much as 33 inches of snow. >> wow. >> back to you? wow. worse than superstorm sandy. >> thanks, david lee. >> yeah. >> all right. here in new york city, a record snowfall, more than 25 inches of

powder falling on the city. shutting down roadways and bringing the crossroads of the world to a standstill. >> brian is live in times square with how officials plan to get rid of all that snow. we see the dump trucks out there and the diggers. it's going to take a while. >> it will take a while. good morning to you all. that's exactly right. today is about digging out for many americans as well as for the big cities. it is a big operation. we're talking about 3,000 plows going through critical routes which is times square and other places and then other secondary routes throughout all the neighborhoods and what not. they will be going out with all the machines. interestingly enough, the city is also going to institute snow melters. they will make that decision in about an hour. these snow melters are placed in critical points around the city and they are pretty much hot tubs so the sanitation workers take all the snow, put them in trucks, pile them up, and then they take that snow on those piles and they start melting it. that water melts into the sewer and that water, there's a little -- they make sure that

they clear through any of the debris, they screen through that water and that is just part of the process of how they get rid of all this snow. we're talking about 26.8 inches. meanwhile, the travel ban by the way has been lifted so cars are starting to go through. the mta the train system, is still going to be kind of put back on-line as we go. for a lot of those long island railroads still so much snow on those tracks and they've got trains with these little snow scrapers that are going through these tracks to clear that snow so that the trains can get back on-line. as the day goes, people are being told to look at that. that is how a city deals with this. temporary workers are hired in the fall, get paid $13 to $20 an hour and they train months for situations just like this. so while you're digging out cities like new york city and washington, d.c., are doing the exact same thing. guys? >> thank you so much. and those nifty snow melters that he showed us, the average american doesn't have that and so you end up shoveling snow and

that's what people are waking up doing this morning. we had dr. segal on this morning, make sure not to overextend yourself. three deaths in new york city alone associated with shoveling snow. >> heart attack related. >> speak for yourself. i have a snow melter at my house. >> a smelter. >> share then. we will get out to our nation's capital, a whiteout in washington, d.c., 30 inches of snow fell in some spots. marina molina live in the capital. >> good morning. that's right. we're here in d.c. in front of the capitol building and the infamous area where children love to come sledding after big snow storms. there was a ban put in place for decades preventing that, but now that has been lifted and for the first time kids can come out and enjoy this legally. that's some good news. here's a look at the slope. see we have some very significant snow accumulation out here. the snow pack in front of the capitol, about 17 inches or so. we do know that's some of the tote unless d.c. have ranged between 20 to 30 inches. locally higher amount exceeding

30 inches to the west of d.c. west of the beltway in some of the suburbs. very significant snowfall again from that storm system. we are going to be sledding here coming up later this morning. full disclosure, i'm from florida, so i didn't get to do much sledding when i was a kid so we're going to be trying that out. it will be very interesting. we will see how that goes. hopefully i figure out how to stop. but we did see a dry slot work in yesterday during the snowfall, late morning, early afternoon, so a lot of people started to question how much snow are we going to see in d.c. but right after that dry slot worked in, very heavy snow picked back up, the wind picked back up during the afternoon hours and evening hours yesterday bringing in the snow totals higher. unfortunately people were out trying to drive around on the roads, even though they were told not to do so and deer were even spotted in the d.c. suburb frolicking in the snow on the streets. so quite a beautiful peaceful scene this morning but again dangerous and the roads, even though they have been plowed and cleanup has started they're

3:30 the next day. roxly l-- approximately 19 hou >> you're in close quarters with that many people, 46 high schoolers on a bus, 20 hours. oh, my goodness. how many times did you have to listen to them sing "99 bottles of beer on the wall". >> it's a good catholic school so that's -- >> [ inaudible ] happy together. >> one of the things, a good friend says it's not what you do, who you're with. in this situation the group we were with made us so proud and made our community so proud because they were exceptionally positive. once we kind of hit that critical point of around 11:00 midnight when we really realized things weren't going to change the kids kind of got a little frustrated but a couple of the guys came up from the back and started singing karaoke, country western songs. it's fantastic. they're good singers but didn't know the words. started making up their own words. >> that's the question, right. what -- at what point did the mood shift from frustration,

concern, to okay, i'm going to have fun with it. >> it depends for each individual. i think as a group as a whole, we all went through the emotion at a different level. i think we kept a very service-oriented mentality. the kids, we kept a prayerful mentality, the kids were praying. we recognized this is a pilgrimage. coming back from the 42nd annual march for life where we were praying for the dignity and sanctity of all life, born and unborn, and this opportunity to witness to those cars around us, to go out into the middle of the snow in the night, knock on windows for cars running out of gas, bringing them food, these kids they were reaching out and praying for all these people around us. just asking god to provide for those who didn't have anything. we were on a nice warm tour bus with -- we had -- everyone had a cellular signal to keep their phones charged, playing games, we had a microphone. we slept. we had relatively, you know, for a bad situation, we were in --

influential of those for two reasons. one, because cruz is attacking trump as not being a consistent conservative and i think that sarah palin shores him up and al also, this is a double whammy, palin was a huge supporter of ted cruz, she admits he would not have won the texas senate primary in 2012 without her support, so the fact she chose trump over cruz, helps one and hurts the other. >> yeah. >> in the end, i think you overstate and we all overstate the importance of endorsements. this has become such a wide open process. people can make up their own minds. they see these guys on live tv, they stream them on the internet. i don't know that reading or hearing what some other politician says makes that much of a difference. >> there have been rumblings and a piece in the "new york times" about new york mayor michael bloomberg thinking i have an opening potentially, maybe i'm going to throw my hat in the

ring. thinking about spending a billion dollars exploring that. what's the likelihood you think he will get in this race. >> it depends on who the other nominees are. i mean i could write a scenario where i think it would make some sense for him. if you endeded up with trump or cruz as the republican nominee and bernie sanders as the democratic nominee, then there's a big hole in the center, a big establishment hole, for both the republicans and democrats and you could see michael bloomberg making a run then. let's say hillary clinton is the democratic nominee, i'm not sure it makes much sense for bloomberg. remember, he's pretty far to the left on a lot of issues, gun control most of all, so to a certain degree if he were to get in with clinton and a trump or cruz, my guess is he would hurt the democrats more than the republicans. >> heat an interesting point. most often we talk about third-party candidates hurting republicans. we saw what happened with ross perot. a big show, senator marco rubio one of your guests running some ads saying jeb bush is putting

suggests it may be your fault because you're controlling. do you need to give up some of the control to stop them from lashing out. director of the motherhood program at family first susan merrill and parenting expert jessica gotleeb join us now to debate. susan, i have to ask you, so when kids act out, is it a reflection of the parents? >> absolutely. kids can be a reflection of their parents. they can learn behavior from other children and people, but they are a reflection of their patie parents often. >> absolutely. jessica in this sense, is this study telling us something we know or breaking new ground there is something in the dna to pass to the child to turn them into a bully? >> i don't know. i mean, you know, you can find a study to back up any bit of parenting you want. i think there's two things going on with the study. it's very small and self-reporting and so the kids, the perception of the kids is

that their parents are controlling. so maybe one of the takeaways is that the kids who are bullies see their parents as very controlling and this is their grab at control. which doesn't necessarily mean that they are. but that that's a teenager's perception. the other thing is, that we can always look at these studies and take a moment, self-reflect, look at our children and ask ourselves, is this going on? and it doesn't mean that we have to change our parenting, but some awareness of how we're behaving and why we're behaving the way that we are is always helpful. >> so it could be as much correlation as causation. susan, do you think parents should look at themselves before they look at their kid on bullying? >> i would definitely say it begins with us. but whether your child learned the aggression from you or someone else, the important thing is that the parents take responsibility for their child and train the behavior out or it

will magnify. it if you are intense, aggressive, critical of your child, it's not going to be trained out until you change. if parents love their children well, their children will learn to love others well. that's the key. >> it is true. oftentimes draw at lot of conclusions about parents from other kids when talking to them, but speaking of kids and other topic in the news recently a new york school says it's offering to change the grades of kids at school instead of from the outcome they want to give a grade based on effort. jessica, do you think we should be revising report cards to make kids feel better? >> okay. this is, i think, a very specific case. you're looking at a very small school, you're looking at a single sex school, it's tiny and it's rigorous, and so i think that when you're looking at kids in the elementary grades, that

the studies support this. that when you have a kid who is, you know, let's say 12 and under who is trying their hardest, that a little more carrot and less stick and providing -- they're not changing the grades. they're simply giving the kids a piece of paper that reflects their effort rather than breaks them down. susan -- >> telling kids that they're -- >> jessica says this is one school, one small incident. doesn't it add to a perception in society today we're coddling our kids, that everyone gets a trophy, is this what we're seeing in one school? do you think it's going to expand elsewhere? >> well actually -- >> i don't -- >> my sister is a teacher and she did experience this in her school. it was a middle school. so i would say first this is dishonest and the kids are going to find out. and it just takes one child to find out everyone will foe they'll all doubt the validity of their grades.

but to be together for 20s plus hours that was a little bit of a chore. we get along pretty well so it was fine. >> tell us about your mentality on hitting the road. you had a gig to get to. you knew conditions were not going to be perfect. what's going through your mind as you start to realize we're stranded, this ain't looking good? >> we knew it when we left indianapolis actually. we had the idea about hitting the storm in lexington, we had stopped and filled up in lexington which actually ended up being a godsend because it's what saved us for being on the road as long as we did. we actually had gas in reserve when it was all over. so, you know, just preparation. pretty much. >> absolutely. you guys are the endless summer band. although folks on twitter started saying change it to the endless snow band. do you want to change your name officially right now on national tv? >> yeah, sure we'll just change the name right now on national television. want to change it to the endless snow band.

>> no. >> whose idea was it to set up a camera and say we're stuck here, let's play a song and put it on social media. >> it kind of started with jay back there. he took off outside on the video. we told him to go out and play in traffic. and then -- -- >> joking we were all stuck there. all the cars are stuck there. if we don't make our gig, brought the gear, might as well play. play for everybody around. >> that's right. >> but jay, he just walks silently into the bag, grabs the saxophone, got out of the vehicle. were we serious? yes, apparently we were. >> you guys were lucky you had each other. been together more than two decades. a lot of people stranded who, you know, weren't as good as spirits as you were. what was that like for you to go up and kind of turn their frowns upside down? >> asking about the people on the roads with us, and yeah, one of the things we keep talking

of flooding yesterday. >> you're right about that. the ocean water, huge chunks of snow as some areas saw tides higher than those during superstorm sandy. david he miller joins us live from one of the hardest hit areas. good morning. because of that, the full moon and the extreme tides along with those hurricane-like winds, bad situation where you are? >> that's right. the situation is improving. we're in the city of margate. this is a community located on a barrier island. that's why it was so badly hit by the storm. but we want to put this in context. other parts of new jersey, mainly in th that took the storm with a great deal more difficulty. joining us right now is the mayor of margate. mayor michael becker. describe to me the extent of the problems caused by the storm in your community? >> well, as you know we're on a barrier island as you said and we've been through three high tides. the damage is moderate.

nowhere near as bad as sandy. we were very lucky. and pretty soon most of this water will be gone probably within the next hour. >> the water here we expect to recede very, very soon. lastly, lessons learned, next time there's going to be a storm, and there will be, anything that should be done differently? >> yeah. we need help with flood control on the bayside of the island. the oceanside is fine. we have bulkheads end to end. most of the water where the damage occurred was from the bayside. >> mayor, thank you very much. hopefully you will make a swift recovery here and very quickly, i should let you know that the situation was much worse elsewhere. take a look at some video recorded in north wildwood. i talked to the mayor there a short time ago. he tells me that at its worse there was five feet of flooding. there is still water in parts of the street. there's still power and electricity problems and more than do dozen people in

shelters. southern part of new jersey very hard hit. the storm is now over. recovery for many only just beginning. back to you. >> david lee, thank you very much for all your reporting on this. >> back in new york city the big apple back open for business. many people waking up with their cars completely buried in the snow. >> rick is on the case outside tracking the latest. >> lot of people not able to get out of those cars because they're going to be buried for a while. on the big streets if you didn't pov your cars and the plows had to go around it. here sixth avenue back home we saw a bus go by since i've been here in the last couple minutes, snow plow and a cab. the petty cab, somebody biking people around. i do want to take a look at some of the graphics. so if you can put up a program into the prompter it would be great. i want to put up weather 8 for me so i can show some of the weather that's going on. there you go. this is where the snow depth is. there's snow that's been all across the western part of the country all year long.

this. it is remarkable shift in iowa this morning. donald trump, with a massive lead in iowa. that's a huge jump from where he was back in the early part of january at 23%. now at 34%. and ted cruz dropping significantly in iowa as well. >> look at the shift, trump is up from -- he was at 23% in the previous poll in iowa fox news poll now at 34%. cruz was at 27%. now at 23%. and rubio at 15%, now at 12%. it was a margin of error race before. this poll puts him decidedly ahead. >> over the last two weeks there have been a few things that have happened that were very significant. ones the governor urged fellow iowans to vote against cruz because of his opposition to ethanol, huge endorsement from sarah palin happened in those two weeks, and senator cruz attacked donald trump for his new york values saying they didn't line up with iowa values. look at these poll numbers. >> now up to new hampshire, a little tighter there but not by

much. donald trump there also with a huge lead right now. 17-point lead over ted cruz. donald trump at 31%. he dropped a little bit from the previous poll in january, 33% to 31%. still a massive lead. ted cruz picked up from 12% to 14%. in new hampshire. >> absolutely. you see grouping of cruz and rubio which we've become accustomed to. that grouping is a little tighter with kasich and bush and christie in new hampshire for the second spot is becoming an important position, especially with trump if the lead now in iowa. what happens in new hampshire if he wins, that's second spot is very coveted one and shows it's a tight race right now. >> that's why you have marco rubio running ads defending himself against jeb bush, specifically addressing jeb bush saying look he's been spreading lies about me, here is where i stand on amnesty. i will repeal any obama order. i will do this this. you're right. in the second and third spot in iowa and new hampshire, a critical spot. >> yeah. also in iowa, you have senator

rubio having those radio ads where it's talking about his christian values trying to get that evangelical vote there. while sticking with politics as far as endorsements go, glen beck endorsing senator cruz and the "des moines register" backing marco rubio. >> that was yesterday. that did not play into this poll which was from january 18th through the 23 1st. the glen beck endorsement after this poll. >> also -- >> things happening so quickly "national review" might be what you were going to mention, so many developments happening in real time this poll is a snapshot. things could be changing since then. >> sarah palin may have had some big effect because this poll coming out right after her endorsement, but glen beck, that "national review" article not part of the poll in the numbers in iowap. just waking up, donald trump up huge right now in iowa and new hampshire. a huge lead for him right now there going from 23% to 34%. >> big news today for sure.

this morning millions of americans getting ready to dig themselves out from the monster storm. experts are predicting the damages could cost up to $850 million. wow. here to break it all down, maria

bartiromo host of "fox business network sunday morning future" joining us now. what does that include? >> the largest amount of that number is really snow removal. that's the costliest. look back to the last big storm in 2014, the snow removal alone in new york city alone, $130 million. so that's really the bulk of it. people talk about lost output. the fact that this happened over the weekend, minimizes it because people did not have to go to work and things like that. the lost output, there's a cap on that. >> significantly higher because, you know, the roads were totally closed. sometimes you see slowdowns but yesterday they locked the city coun. >> exactly. that's on to the category of lost output. the fact that you couldn't do what you normally do, whether go to work or just go out and have commerce and spend money. the lost output. the "wall street journal" estimating this could go into the billions, close to $16 billion when you look at the whole country, lost output and the snow removal.

it is costly. this is municipalities, local government take the brunt in terms of the payment. >> yeah. long term we look at the numbers, we look at the economic impact over the long term, deliveries and people staying at home like watching netflix and ordering things to have shipped to their house but not out supporting local restaurants and all of that. >> at a time that that portion of the economy is stretched. you're not seeing consumers spend the kind of -- with the kind of activity you would expect given where gas prices is, the recovery in the economy is. it certainly adds to an already sort of precious or vulnerable time in the economy. the snow it looks beautiful, it's pretty, but certainly there's a lot of lost output. >> such a good point reinforces the trends right now at home on-line ordering that way as opposed to being out at storefronts we've seen. >> totally. that's what happened over christmas. you saw the on-line portion of spending show the vibrancy. everything else was very, very weak.

a big, big task to get rid of all this snow. 3,000 plows go into the street, they take this snow and they put them in trucks and dump them in corners throughout the city. sanitation about to make a decision in a couple hours to did if they will make the melt the snow with snow melters. essentially hot tubs heated to just 35, 37 degrees, and all of this snow, mounds of snow, put into these snow melters and then it melted and put in strategic places where the so sewer system can deal with the excess water. they're looking to see whether mother nature will warm up a bit today enough for the snow to melt by itself, but if not, snow melters will be helping the process here in new york city. in the meantime while the city is getting back on track, with the travel ban being lifted at 7:00 a.m., people are now back on the streets, the cars are going by and imagine people will be heading to places like central park and times square. for those heading here, you're

doing a very good job helping out her dad clear away the snow. hey there, rick. >> hey there. the young hearts can handle the shoveling. >> a look at the maps, a couple things going on. the snowfall totals we've been talking about in new york city, not just in new york city central park, almost at a record, but take a look at the areas around. staten island, 31 inches, jfk 30, laguardia almost 28, same with belmont, you get the idea. a lot of snow for a lot of places. this is a look at the storm. it is gone. fortunately it's out of here. but it left such an incredible footprint. a lot of the east coast has not had any snow. the models were right on this except at the new york city area and extended in there unfortunately -- fortunately or unfortunately depending on your viewpoint but at the record level right there. all right. want to tell you the winds across the eastern seaboard were intense. 85-mile-an-hour. that is a category 1 hurricane force wind.

same with dewy beach, delaware. the wind direction has changed. the flooding we saw along the coastal areas of new jersey, especially, now you have a north wind starting to push that water away from the coast and that will continue to pull the water away. i think the flooding that we saw, that is going to be gone. you still have winds across cape cod and the islands. that will begin to taper off as we go through the afternoon and we will warm up this week. good news, not incredibly cold behind the storm. warmer temperatures coming in to melt things down. >> thanks so much. david lee miller in southern new jersey and said some places had more flooding than they had during superstorm sandy. >> brutal. >> it can add to that. >> a travel nightmare this weekend as major cities dig out under tons of snow. 10,000 flights have been canceled leaving travelers stranded for days. >> earlier we told you the secrets that airlines won't tell you when it comes to rebooking your flights but there are also some apps out there that can help you too. >> kirk, the cyber guy, joins us

now with how they work. >> good morning to you. anna, good to see you. clayton knows all about these because we use these all the time. >> that's right. >> flight board. one of the top apps. >> have a look at this one. this is crazy. you put in the airport wherever you live in the country, put in the airport, and it will show you all the arriving or departing flights and on the right column you can see that some flights here coming out of jfk, appear to start to still be scheduled. don't mean they won't cancel later but we get into this other block of delayed or canceled flights. this gives you a really good idea as we're trying to recover from this kind of weather or any weather, what really is going to happen when you get to the airport. another one that is a super secret insider site is called expert flyer. expert flyer comes with a little companion seat finder app but really the website is the tool you want. and it is a subscription base

between 5 and $10 a month. that's a lot of money. why are so many frequent flyers using this? quite frankly it will find every airline seat that you're looking for between any two cities at any given time and the real bonus is when there isn't any bad weather and we're trying to plan a trip to hawaii or wherever with the family and want to use miles this will show you where some of those mile seats are that the airlines are not going to tell you. phenomenal. >> this is better than a typical site. >> getting geeky with airline stuff but getting the core information if you look on the right column see that on the right side, it shows you exactly how many seats there are in various fare categories. so very, very helpful for recovery. helps you tell the airline hey, i see that there's a flight i want you to book me on that flight and guess what, they will. they're not trying not to help you. they don't have the kind of tools at their disposal.
