we're just hours away in the last gop presidential debate before the iowa caucuses. so what should we expect to hear from these candidates tonight? and how will trump's no show affect the outcome? for a fair and balanced debate we have lisa boothe, founder and founder of high noon strategies and terren rosen krantz, democratic strategist. good morning to both of you.
5:18 am
>> good morning. >> thanks for being here. set the stage for us tonight. i'll start with you first, lisa. who's going to make the most out of tonight? >> i think it's up to senator ted cruz and marco rubio but you have an opportunity for governor john kasich to step in and chris christie to step in. the reality is yes, aye is important, but the name of the game is there are 2,740 delegates to the convention. a candidate needs to win 1,236 of those and iowa only represents about 1% of delegates. so you have to look at a state like new hampshire which is also coming up. john kasich has been moving up in the polls in new hampshire. so this is an opportunity without someone like donald trump who sucks up a lot of the oxygen to have someone like john kasich or chris christie step in and generate some headlines and some attention. >> lisa mentions chris christie. you think this could be a big moment for christie without donald trump up there on that stage. >> yeah, they need a game changing moment. they want to break out of the pack and not be as faceless as
5:19 am
they're becoming they have to make tonight be that moment where they're not being react e reactive. but instead getting their own message out. >> all right. so lisa, what is the strategy going to be? you could pick a candidate or you can say in general, but are they going to go on the attack against donald trump while he's not there or will they seize the moment? one in which they will not have to answer to donald trump and they might even be getting a little bit more time. so what's the strategy going to be? >> i think they'll attack donald trump because he's leading in the polls in aye and new hampshire and south carolina and this is an opportunity for the attacks to go unanswered. we are talking about donald trump because he's so good at generating headlines but he hasn't won an election yet and the big knock against donald trump is a lot of his support comes from first time
5:20 am
caucusgoers so the big question is can he turn those people out? 33% of iowa caucusgoers are still undecided so this is an opportunity for them to define him tonight. >> that's a stat from the latest poll, 30% of iowa caucusgoers undecided. who will walk away a big winner tonight? >> i think trump will be the winner whether he shows up noor not. >> in the sense he's got everybody talking about him. >> it will be a big night. we'll be watching. thank you to you both. well, when we come back, the world famous singer who's already suffered so many set backs sees his home burn to the ground. and looking for a new car or truck? then keep it right here. we have four vehicles you should definitely take a look at. maybe even take a test drive in, next. want to get their hands on. if they could ever catch you.
