we -- yeah, right. right. well, i'll tell you what. i'll tell you what. what do we really want to thank, right? we want to thank the people of new hampshire. right? do we love the people of new hampshire? you know, i said it and i said it even a year ago. i said i think i'm going to do well there because i'm here a lot and it's so beautiful and i love it so much. and i love the people. and i said, i actually think they like me a lot. and then all of a sudden we started getting numbers in and everyone said, how come they like trump so much? but i have so many friends up here and they're special, special people. so, new hampshire, i want to thank you. we love you. we're going to be back a lot. we are not going to forget you. you started it. remember. you started it.

did start it. you know, when i came out i heard the end of bernie's speech and i heard some of the beginning. no. no. i first of all congratulations to bernie in all fairness. we have to congratulate him. we may not like it but i heard parts of bernie's speech. he wants to give away our country, folks. he wants to give away -- we are not going to let it happen. i don't know where it's going with bernie. we wish him a lot of luck but we are going to make america great ut we are going to do it the old-fashioned way. we are going to beat japan, china, we are going to beat mexico at trade. we are going to beat all of these countries that are taking so much of our money away from us. on a daily basis. it's not going to happen anymore. we have the greatest business people right now in the world. they call me all the time. they want to be involved. we have political hacks

negotiating our deals for billions and billions and billions of dollars. not going to happen anymore. we are going to use the finest business people in the world. we are going to do something so good and so fast and so strong and the world is going to respect us again. believe me. we are going to -- [ chanting ] do we love our country? do we love our country? i think one of the things that really caught on is very important, self funding my campaign. everybody on both sides -- and you know, i was saying two weeks ago, i said i don't think people appreciate it because i see all of this money poured into commercials and it's not their money. it's special interest money. and this is on both sides. this is on the republican side. the democratic side.

money just pouring into commercials. these are special interests, folks. these are lobbyists. these are people that don't necessarily love our country. they don't have the best interests of our country at heart. we're not going to let it happen. we can't. we have to do something about it. when you see -- when you see the kind of deals made in our country, a lot of those deals are made because the politicians aren't so stupid. they're making them for their benefit. we have to stop it. we have to stop it. we are now going to make it for your benefit. we are going to make the deals for the american people. that's the way it is. now, very -- oh, i love this. look at you. look at you. i love these signs. they're the most imaginative signs. so look. in a nutshell, we are going to make great trade deals. we are going to rebuild our military. it's going to be so big, so

strong, so powerful. nobody, nobody is going to mess with us. believe me. nobody. nobody. we are going to take care of our vets. where is al? where is al? we love al! all right, al? get up here if you can. we are going to take care of our vets. our vets are treated horribly. they're our greatest people. our vets are going to be taken care of. and you remember that. everybody. right? we are going to have strong, incredible borders. and people are going to come into our country but they're going to come into our country legally. they're going to come in legally. we are going to build a wall. it's going to be built. it's not even believe it or not. it's not even a difficult thing to do. and by the way, for the people

of new hampshire, where you have a tremendous problem with heroin and drugs, you wouldn't even believe it. you see the place, it's so beautiful. you have a big problem. mr. trump, please do something. the drugs, the heroin, it's pouring in. and it's so cheap. because there's so much of it. and the kids are getting stuck and other people are getting stuck. we are going to end it. we're going to end it. we're going to end it at the southern border. it is going to be over. and we are going to work and we are going to work really hard to get those people that are so addicted off the habit. we are going to work like hell to take care of the situation. it's a huge problem in new hampshire. a huge problem all over our country. we are going to have borders again. and we are going to work with you people to help you solve that very big problem. and we'll get it done.

that's so beautiful. what a group of people. do you know, on top of this group, we have thousands of people outside that can't even get in. that's what we have. thousands of people. health care, we are going to repeal and replace obamacare. it is a total disaster. we are repealing and replacing obamacare. it's gone. we're getting rid of common core. we are going to educate our children locally. we educate our children locally. we are going to preserve our very sacred second amendment. there's not going to be anymore chipping away at our second amendment. if we had protection in california recently and so many other places, you could even look to paris.

paris has the toughest gun laws in the world. france has the toughest gun laws in the world. these animals go in. they start shooting one, two, three. 130 people. with many people horribly wounded. horribly wounded right now in the hospital. if there were bullets going in the other direction, believe me, it would have been a whole different story, folks. but nobody had protection. i am going to be the greatest jobs president that god ever created. remember that. don't believe those phony numbers when you hear 4.9% and 5% unemployment. the number's probably 29% as high as 35% and i heard recently

42%. do you think we would have gatherings like this -- if we had 5% unemployment, do you think we'd have these gatherings? forgetting about security and isis and by the way we're going to knock the hell out of isis. we are going to knock the hell out of them. and it's going to be done the right way. so we are going to take care of the economy. we are going to take care of jobs. we are going to take care of all the things i said, our border, everything. health care, it is going to be so great. remember this about obamacare. people are forgetting but now they're miserable because it's going up 45%, 35%, 55%. it's totally out of control. probably sinks of its volition in 2017 unless the republicans give it another -- i mean, what's going on? what's going on? the budget. the last budget that was approved is an absolute disaster

for everybody in this country. we owe $19 trillion as of today. we just crossed the $19 trillion mark. we are going to shortly be at $21 trillion because of the budget. we are going to make our country so strong. we are going to start winning again. we don't win anymore. as a country. we don't win on trade. we don't win with the military. we can't beat isis. we don't win with anything. we are going to start winning again and we are going to win so much. you are going to be so happy. we are going to make america so great again. maybe greater than ever before. i love you all. thank you, new hampshire! thank you! thank you, new hampshire! thank you. we are going now to south carolina! we are going to win in south carolina. i love you all. thank you very much. thank you. thank you very much. ♪

>> a fired up jubilant donald trump taking the victory lap surrounded by his family. a gracious shout out to friends and supporter and family working tirelessly for him on this campaign trail talking about how we have learned a lot about ground game in one week. which he felt was partially to blame for the loss in iowa last week. and giving a shout out to some in the republican party saying we have real talent in the gop and talking about how he will be the greatest jobs president that god ever created. a lynn on the campaign trail and bringing back a few of the promises we have heard before that we will take care of our veterans. beat china. beat japan. beat mexico. build a wall and so on. on they go to south carolina as do most of the rest of the field. so far tonight, notwithstanding the cluster of candidates fighting for third place now in the gop side. no one's announcing anything that resembles a plan to drop

out, bret. >> we should point out that chris christie coming in sixth here will not qualify for saturday's gop debate in south carolina as it stands right now and that is a big deal. perhaps, perhaps the person most happy about that would be marco rubio. >> you would think. >> you never know. >> maybe he wanted to get retribution. who knows? >> now we have a live look at john kasich, the ohio governor coming in second place in new hampshire. and he is speaking now to a fired up crowd of supporters. let's dip in there. >> well, first of all, i want to -- i want to congratulate donald trump tonight on his victory. but -- oh no, no, no. no, no, no. he won fair and square but i beat him in dicksville notch. well, first of all, my daughters

are at home. emma and reece and we're all happy because they're not driving tomorrow. but how about my family? emma and reece and of course my great wife karen. and here in new hampshire, i have to tell you there's no way i would have gone forward with this campaign if it wasn't for a john sununu. the great senator john sununu. he -- he is such a great partner. he's so smart and he's so disciplined and he's just a great, great friend of mine and we also want to spend a little time thanking former senator gordon humphrey. now, this man is -- we were -- you know, we were 1%

in the national polls and people are like how can you ever win? and then, you know, things are just -- we're walking in a total ab skurd tsurdty and gordon humphrey said this is the hot plate that changed the world. guys sleeping on mattresses in the headquarters and hold up a hot plate where they're eating their food. that's how you win elections. that's how you do it. and of course, our great friend tom rath, the former attorney general. he's been one of the best guys i could have. where is tom wrath? in 17 years ago i came here and, you know, i thought things were going okay. wasn't getting a lot of attention and was standing in the kitchen and i was talking to this lady and i'm thinking i got myself a town chairperson here. this lady really, really likes

me and she said, when will the candidate get her? can you tell us? but the guy that stuck with me for 17 years, bruce burkey. where is bruce? come on up here. and listen. listen. i want to tell you and there's -- i mean, there's just no way to say this appropriately. when the media kept saying, well, how are you going to do this? you know, can you finish high? you know what i said? i have an insurance policy. it's you. it's all of you. how does a guy like me thank you for the countless hours, the phone calls, the door knocking? some of you have come from, of course, our buckeye state and

some have come -- >> ohio governor john kasich second in new hampshire. for the people who watched this race, the question is, how will he finish down south? south carolina. other states. he says he's taking the campaign national from here and thanking new hampshire tonight. >> we don't know where senator marco rubio landed tonight. those results are not here and we did hear that he told the crowd his debate performance this past saturday was responsible for his showing in new hampshire saying it will never happen again. let's listen. >> an apartment manager for about a year and a half and then he couldn't find bar tending work on miami beach. and so my father in january of 1979 left to las vegas by himself leaving his children and his wife in miami to go look for a job. now, he had to work for 20 years as a bartender and when he got to las vegas the only jobs was as a busboy.

after 20 years of a bartender, this gentleman well into the 50s was carrying buckets of ice and cleaning glasses for bartenders half his age and not even a tenth of their experience. it was humbling and hard. but he was not prideful. he understood that it wasn't about him. it was about us. my father more than halfway into his life was willing to do whatever it took so that our future could be better. well, this's the challenge before our country now. not all the days are going to be great days. we are not going to always get things we want but i'm confident not only will this campaign be successful but america will be successful, as well. i'm confident when this process is done, this nation will discover and embrace the principles that made her great. i am confident -- [ applause ] i am confident because for over two centuries, for over to

centuries americans in the end have always gotten it right. in each generation, in each generation before us americans have always done what needed to be done and i know with all my heart we will do what needs to be done in this generation to leave for our children what they deserve to inherit. a new american century. the greatest nation on earth. that is what we'll do in this election. he finished third in iowa. tonight we do not know he's fighting for third at best at this point. it could wind up below that. >> we are still waiting for senator ted cruz and his speech. back with us now, let's bring in fox news political correspondent juan williams, senior political analyst brit hume, martha mccallum, former white house press secretary dana perino. your thoughts? >> there's hope going into south carolina saying it's my fault. in 1988 the wimp factor attached to george h.w. bush, that was a trend line starting to settle in and they had to fight back hard. i think marco rubio has to fight back just as hard tomorrow morning before that trend line sets in as the robot instead of the wimp. >> definitely a shift. today on the trail and yesterday we heard him denying that he had

had a bad night and said i believed it because i believed it. clearly it didn't help him in this state. brit, your thoughts? >> i think he is wounded. you know? he had a steam second place finish in i with and finished worst than expected here i think. he's damaged. he is not out. he'll fight on. i think donald trump is back in the driver's seat. he's the front-runner, clearly. unmistaken bring. the other thought is jeb bush trying to do something here. he spent a lot of time here and a ton of money and you all know the numbers. and this is at best a tie for what? third or fourth? i don't know how the bush campaign can spin that into momentum to go south. he has plenty of money. i don't think he has any traction. >> martha, the team jeb, with the superpac and the campaign, ran 11,917 commercials, spent $36 million here. ted cruz who looks like he's going to beat bush here just

spent $580,000 and only ran 441 commercials. >> yeah. ted cruz is one of the interesting stories coming out of here. he said that the strategy was to find that very conservative voter, that evangelical voter and turn them out in numbers that people hadn't seen in prior elections. the exit poll numbers show they're coming out about same as then and then coming out for ted cruz and talking about kasich, about bush, about the stories and whether or not rubio can survive. ted cruz is in a strong position tonight and he can feel good going into south carolina. >> juan, carly fiorina has already said that she's going to continue on and as has ben carson tonight according to reports. we haven't heard from chris christie but one assumes we expect the same. is that realistic? >> no. there's no reason for them to continue at this point and i would add jim gilmore, i think less than 1%. dr. carson, carly fiorina. and then you come to the issue

of christie. that you and bret talked on earlier. he is not going to be in the debate, the upcoming debate. he is off the stage. that's a strong signal. he invested everything here. his time, focus, what resources were available to him. he said this is my play. this is the platform i need to spring forward and it just didn't happen. >> just interest tidbit from "the washington post." they say that richard whites 73-year-old retired janitor of massachusetts is excited tonight because he got more votes than huckabee, rick santorum and jim gilmore. he happened to be the candidate between donald trump and jeb bush on the ballot. but congratulations, mr. whites. good luck going forward. >> just on the point that you were making about governor christie, why didn't he fail to resonate? i mean, he, you know, four years ago, the republicans were begging him to run and then we had the hug with obama.

he denied it's a hug. and then bridgegate. >> hurt his reputation and standing, the sense of him as a big winner but i think what hurt him here is that trump really hurt him. their from fiprofiles in a sens similar. new york guys. tough guys. that has a certain appeal this year as we can see and i think those voters went to trump and not available to chris christie and left him not enough. >> the fight here that involved christie really was among sort of also rans and christie decided he had to take out rubio and he focused in on rubio. rubio initially went after christie on the bridgegate thing. ransom ads on that here but in the latter part of this campaign, it was all about christie and specifically in the debate taking on rubio. even yesterday. they were at it again with christie making the point that, you know, you can look at the

senate record and accomplishments and wonder whether or not rubio's ever been in the senate. >> always an issue or choice that a candidate faces to try to take down or take out after another candidate is you can do it, you can often do it successfully in the sense of damaging the other candidate but do you look good doing it? i suspect people felt chris christie didn't look good doing it. >> a double-edged sword with that debate move. martha, we are burying the lead here in that donald trump win is huge. it is 34%. doubling, lapping the field. and he goes into south carolina not having spent a lot of money in two states. with essentially a close second and a win. he's going to be tough. >> talked about iowa, came in second, we wondered whether or not holes punched in the idea that with social media and rallies to win these races. tonight it's a very different story because he didn't put a lot of money and didn't put a lot of ground game and time into the state.

he put a lot in rallies and social media and that model may be what works going forward. we talked about money, this is earli earlier. the millions spent by chris christie and jeb bush, the people who spent the least amount of money are in spots one, two and three right now. that turns this on its head. >> says something about campaign finance. >> trump won with women, young people, won with independents. he won with conservatives. and we're going to listen to ted cruz for a moment but i want to ask you whether you think he can repeat that in south carolina. >> i think it is possible. he said he's going to make the military great again. they're five major military inthat lagss in south carolina. this week he said he would not increase funding for the military. that could hurt him there and maybe not enough to derail him. >> let's listen in to senator ted cruz who we don't know where he finishes and could finish third tonight.

>> the votes are still being counted. and the exact results are unknown. but right now, it appear that is we are effectively tied for third in the state of new hampshire. that was the result that all of us were told was impossible. together, we have done what the pundits and the media said could not be done. [ applause ] and what the washington establishment desperately hoped would not be done. [ cheers and applause ] one week ago all of the media

predicted we would lose the state of iowa. >> they were wrong. >> i had opposed the ethanol mandate taking on washington and corporate welfare. my opponents attacked me, promising even more cronyism. and lobbyists spent millions of dollars at attack ads against our campaign. and yet the people of iowa put their country first, they put their children first. and then this week history repeated itself. once again, the talking heads of the washington insiders were confident that our wave of support would break against the rock of the granite state. that a conservative we were told could not do well in the state

of new hampshire. we were told that over and over again. and tonight, the men and women here and all across this great state proved them wrong. [ cheers and applause ] now, i want to congratulate donald trump on an impressive win tonight. and john kasich had a good night tonight. but the real winner, the real winner is the conservative grassroots. who propelled us to an outright victory in iowa and to a far stronger result and outcome in new hampshire than anyone had predicted. now we go on to south carolina. the palmetto state. and, you know, washington liberals may find south carolina far less hospitable environs. and on to nevada and super tuesday, the so-called s.e.c. primary. and the voters will have a

qualify for the saturday debate. did the money spent in new hampshire mean it didn't pay off and suspend his campaign going forward? that's a decision that chris christie says he'll make in new jersey tonight. >> going to bring back in the panel. who you can see here. dana, your thoughts on chris christie and that announcement? >> on saturday night tearing into marco rubio and really left a mark, wounded marco rubio, one of the things i thought was, but then, if you came in tenth in iowa and sixth in new hampshire, and you have no path forward, what have you done? was it personal? maybe it was. there is a lot of bad blood. didn't start that way. now south carolina wounded marco rubio and probably no chris christie. >> you look at the exit polls and one of the questions that people were asked was, which candidate is telling it like it is. that is chris christie's campaign slogan.

what brit was talking about before, there was a tile when chris christie had that real estate carved out nicely. the brash talking northeastern guy and trump stepped into that and took it from him. telling it like it is, chris christie got 13. donald trump got 65 on the phrase literally chris christie's campaign slogan. >> bush said the campaign is not dead. he said those words tonight in the speech and goes on to south carolina. has an operation there that's pretty significant. obviously, a lot of money. >> he has an actual campaign and money and not dead in that sense. the question is whether his candidacy is dead, whether the campaign goes on or not. i don't know what he has going on and not smarz i know up in the polls and no momentum coming out of here that i see for him. i don't know where he goes. one other point. i can't resist this. remember the dust-up over whether ben carson leaving the race and the cruz people accused of a terrible dirty trick that

deprived donald trump of the win in iowa suggesting he was not going on. he kind of did get out of the race. didn't come here for a while. well to the national prayer breakfast and finished dead last. i think in effect, in effect he did get out. now he will be out i think. >> next is south carolina. we haven't had the announcement from fiorina or carson. never mind gilmore. it's a history of dirty tricks and the context of the election? >> oh gosh, i remember and i heem sure mr. hume remember south carolina in 2000 and the kind of dirty elections against senator mccain. he had a child out of wedlock. that some of his supporters, some from here in new hampshire, were of questionable behavior. it really gets personal in south carolina. >> why? does anything go there? is it just a tolerance that people are used to -- >> no. it's all about who very much

you are and i'm going to reveal the kind of person you are to the world. it's so personal. dana lives down there half the time. if you look at governor haley, tim scott, graham, they'll tell you that in that state it's elbows out all the time. >> used to brawling politics and there's a lot on the line in south carolina right now for these goppers. >> that's where the battle is joined. you have the winnowing down kind of. south carolina is where it really will happen. >> stand by. >> let's head to laura ingraham joining us now. we're talking about south carolina and first of all, your thoughts about tonight and how it frames the race going forward to the next stop. >> when you add up trump, cruz and carson, it's 48% of gop voters who basically want to take the table as it's currently

set with all the issues that we have talked about from immigration to trade, government spending, the budget and they want to turn the table over. they want the whole system in washington up ended and changed. that's how mad voters are and how much they want change. that's 48% of the electorate. so i think we heard a lot out of iowa. trump stumbles, didn't perform and that's true. he didn't perform as he said he would perform but we see in new hampshire that the voters there are demanding the type of change he's anticipated. moving on to south carolina. let's remember south carolina since 1980 has always chosen the republican nominee except for 2012. where, of course, in 2012 they picked newt gingrich and ultimately wasn't the nominee. that's a very different state for both trump and cruz but it has a lot of treasures for both, as well. we have evangelicals voters strong there, military retirees

and a more non-ideological republican voter base that is a little bit more secular and a little bit more pragmatic. i think both trump and cruz are very well poised to go into south carolina in this, again, anti-establishment turn the table over fervor that still exists in the republican party despite the groups in the second, third, fourth, fifth position tonight in new hampshire. >> laura, you have said some positive things about chris christie and his positions. >> yep. >> how he deals with things in the past r. you surprised he didn't take off here in new hampshire and may be considering getting out of the race? >> i maintain that christie has -- could have been a -- quite a compromise candidate. people don't agree with that. i think he has a lot of the qualities, straight talking qualities of a trump with a chief executive experience. no nonsense, a pragmatic

approach. willing to move on issues of trade and immigration where rubio and bush really weren't willing to move at all. and over the last several months, you saw christie really move toward a more populist position. maybe there wasn't a place left for him there where trump and cruz were. we probably didn't hear the last of chris christie. we could see him in a republican administration if he decides to get out of the race as an attorney general or maybe another position. he's a very powerful and has raw political talent that i think has been -- i think it's gotten shortchanged. people are mad about the hug, a lot of things. as a compromise candidate, i don't know how you could have done better than chris christie in the end and i'll stick to this. >> we'll see what he does. thank you as always. >> always very adamant about the fact there wasn't an actual hug. there was, however, parading down the boardwalk and winning stuffed animals for one another.

welcome back to a continuing coverage on america's election headquarters. let's head back down to washington with chris wallace and the space cowboys. chris? >> thanks, bret. yeah. we have been watching the results. we have been listening to the speeches. at the end of this night, karl, your takeaways? >> big night for donald trump. he outperformed his number here. more importantly, his speech was significantly different than we have heard in iowa and elsewhere on the trail. he complimented his republican opponents which he is loathe to call them anything except losers and morons. he detailed his agenda and he struck a different tone. he walks out of here tonight

with a big win going in to south carolina. and with the best possible outcome. he has a second place finisher when's going to find it difficult to compete in new hampshire and the rest of them all of them have infrastructure in south carolina. but they're too many of them. so we're likely to see this kind of -- kind of -- >> more candidates. >> cut up vote. one bad point of tonight is he is the target of everybody. we heard that from ted cruz tonight when he said basically i'm going to go after new york values in south carolina. all of these people know that if they're going to do well in the march 1st to march 8th primaries they have to bring him down a notch or two. >> joe, takeaway on the democratic side? >> this is lined up, the obama coalition is now split. you've got bernie sanders winning the white progressives

and young people. she's still carrying women. may not have happened in new hampshire tonight but she's still ahead there and blacks and latinos and non-whites in the party. that's a big test now because she wanted to block bernie sanders from ever getting to testing that down in south carolina. that's where it's all going to go and bernie sanders, he's got to do -- he got to what he wanted. he wanted to score big tonight, and be able to test that and see if he can expand into the base into hillary's base in south carolina. that's a tough, tough task. i don't know that he can do it but we're going to find out soon. >> cowboys, thank you both. you can rest up. >> head 'em up, move 'em up. >> absolutely. we'll be back for north carolina -- rather, south carolina. it is clear that new hampshire didn't do what it often does. winnow. the race is hard and as fierce as ever into south carolina and another ten days. back to you in manchester.
