ted cruz at 12% jeb bush at 11% chris christie at 8% and ben carson at 2%. donald trump, big turn out now celebrating a decisive win. >> we are going to make america great again. i am going to be the greatest jobs president that god ever created. remember that. by the way, we're going to knock the hell out of isis. >> the other question was how would the governor's perform this this race, that's governor chris christie of new jersey, governor john kasich of iowa and former florida governor jeb bush. john kasich finishes here behind donald trump, but ahead of the rest of the field and he says he's going to carry that momentum into the next prime areas. >> we'll move through south carolina all across this country and we'll end up in the midwest

night so listen to this, that will never happen again. >> he heard him saying vowing to bounce back after finishing in fifth place in new hampshire. >> and turning now to the democrats, bernie sanders with a dominating win over hillary clinton in the granite state. we're live in new hampshire with that part of our coverage. >> good morning. the expected victory on the part of senator bernie sanders was significant here in new hampshire. he won by up 20 plus points over hillary clinton and he also won among women with 93% of the vote in, sanders is at 63%, clinton 38%. he slammed the financial ipdry and free college. he promised his win would ecofrom wall street to washington. >> this is the promise of

america and this is the promise we must keep alive for future generations. what began last week in iowa what voters here in new hampshire confirmed tonight is nothing short of the beginning of a political revolution. >> clinton's loss is particularly stinging because the granite state has been good to she and her husband. the former bill clinton command aggressively with his wife contrasting his wife's record with sanders record, but the factor was not enough to claim a win. secretary clinton acknowledged she needs do a better job connecting with the youth vote. >> i know i have some work do, particularly with young people, but i will repeat again what i have said this week, even if

they are not supporting me now, support them. >> sanders scored here in new hampshire, but the question is how well he will do going forward. will he be able to defeat the southern firewall. she is thought to have the favorite there among minority vote. >> he has momentum though after last night. live for us in manchester. thank you. >> the pundits had it all figured out last monday night. they said the race was now a three person race between two freshman senators and the reality tv star, while the reality tv star is doing well it looks like you have reset the race. >> jeb bush said this is no longer a three man race as many declared after iowa however it

was john kasich who made a comeback last night. who was the biggest winner last night? always nice to have you guys here after a long night. >> hey there. >> so first of all, as we just asked, biggest surprise for both of you? >> necessary necessarily for me but i think for everyone else was ted cruz's performance. i warned everybody earlier today when everyone was counting cruz out that don't do that, he's going to perform i think quite strongly. obviously he did. it was surprising to many people as he was moving up, but i think that tells you the importance of the ground game still again in new hampshire. he adjusted his message once rand paul moved out. he talked about privacy, the nsa, things he's passionate about. this tells you he's got a great

ground game in south carolina and also interestingly he spent about half a million dollars, $585,000 to jeb bush's 36 million just in new hampshire. mr. kasich spent 12.1 million. christie spent 18 million with spending $585,000 he turned up being number three so i think this is really telling about the attitude, the outsider dynamic, the rejection of the establishment is still very strong. >> you have a different idea your biggest surprises? >> my biggest sbries tonight is that everyone can go to bed, it's over and if you're a campaign young person working for jeb bush it was amazing last night. you finally got what everybody was talking about. absolutely i gave kasich credit, but bush was the biggest

surprise. a close second was john. kasich has spent so much time in new hampshire they're going to make him pay taxes and also coming in close there was bernie sanders who everybody thought would win, but i would remind you it was a double digit win. that's another surprise. >> so we have to move to the biggest disappointment. who needs to go home? >> well, for me i was a big fan of carly fiorina dispointing to see her do so poorly here. i think christie has gone home. we'll see what happens. i think obviously you have dr. carson and fiorina have to make choices here. >> so finally for you, who should go home, biggest disappointment. >> not only did dr. ben carson mess up the entrance into the

today was the new hampshire primary. this is a big deal. all the candidates spent the day with their supporters except for ben carson who is still waiting in the hallway. ben, ben, ben, ben come on out. ben, ben, ben.

>> it's too good. >> well certain candidates pulled way ahead in the primary. we breakdown the exit polls. thanks for waking up this morning. let's start with the issues that the voters cared most about based on these exit polls last night because obviously people have to be motivated to get to the polls. what were the issues they cared about the most. >> the economy and jobs and immigration and terrorism. all of these issues trump does well on and i think the thing is he's been running as a businessman his language is i'm going to go down there and make things happen that have never happened before so when you think about his language, his message people are believing he is going to go do d.c. and do something than has ever been done before because in the last

20 years people are disappointed by promises that haven't been kept. >> foreign policy is a big one this campaign cycle. it seems like trump is doing well there as well. >> i'm curious as i'm talking to folks do you think this is the guy that's going to keep us safe? >> yes, he's going to stand up for us and fight. of you heard him talking about how he was going to deal with isis last night. people think he is strong and a leader and he's going to take care of business whether it's talking about the economy or security. >> it's interesting we were talking about this this morning and often voters want a candidate that they think shares their values, but you look at polling on this and donald trump doesn't do well with many voters on sharing their values but it seems it's not the in am one issue for them. >> 30% of americans are saying in new hampshire said it's important that he shares my values, other things were more important. about 70% of issues are more

important that he is honest and i can trust what he's going to say. trump does well in those other categories that's why when you're having conversations with folks who might be evangelical who are saying i support trump, it's because i think he's authentic and i can trust him. i'm not as concerned about some of those other issues. >> and maybe he'll get things done. bernie sanders had a big night last nights and he did particularly well with young people according to our exit polls 74% went out to vote for him under the age of 45. this brings back a lot of memories of what happened to hillary in 2008. >> who would have thought it would have been a 74-year-old man fr man. they do not want the establishment. they are so disenfranchised and bernie sanders speaks to them in a way no one else has.

he's promising he's going to fight for them and give them free college, take care of big business, he's on the side of people and that's a message that resonates with the young people. >> the other part of the exit poll is hillary clinton when it comes to trust worth iness and honest. that is shocking. that is not a place she wants to be. >> i think it's the plomost devastating number. that to me is telling and i think that means she's really got to shake things up if she wants to continue because if you don't trust her you won't vote for her. >> thanks for being with us. >> back to you. we'll talk more about that in a little bit. the time now is 17 after the top of the hour and it is on to south carolina for the gop candidates, but just how long can last night's losers remain in the race, who can't afford to stay in up next.

tonight we head to south carolina and we will move through south carolina all across this country. >> so now on to south carolina on to nevada on to super tuesday. >> we are going now to south carolina. we're going to win in south carolina. >> south carolina, we are on the way. >> where are they going next? i don't know. it is on to the next one.

you heard them say the candidates are making their way to south carolina. so will the patterns of the past prove true in 2016. ron myer editor at red alert politics here to discuss how the winners in previous elections fared in south carolina. great to have you here and talk about the history of these races. let's look first of all right back at 2012. we had romney winning in new hampshire, but we had him losing in south carolina. go back further to 2008 where you had mccain winning new hampshire and south carolina. so what does this mean in terms of trump and in terms of bernie sanders? >> so three of the last four people to win new hampshire for the republicans went on to lose in south carolina. mccain was the only one who actually won back to back. so really you would say isn't that bad for trump that most of the time republicans go on to lose the next state, but he's

really quite far ahead. the only person that has a chance to catch him there is cruz. . the way south carolina works is winner takes all. maybe rubio can pick up a couple, but for a lot of candidates to go there and waste money and get zero delegates it might not be worth it. for john kasich it's going to be a waste of time for him to go to south carolina. >> should he jump past there. >> with both jeb bush and john kasich you over performed but now where are you going? where are you taking your plane to? >> what does it mean in terms of democrats. >> as far as democrats go bernie has momentum. as far as what history shows new hampshire doesn't really have a huge record of picking winners and neither does south carolina so this is a horse race right now and made this thing

real a lot of young people. he beat hillary clinton by 64%. >> among women, young people. you talked about the money trail and the amount of money that he has raised. let's go back to the republicans now in terms of thained following new hampshire what do you think we'll see happen next. >> i think kasich will get a boost, i think everybody else will stay level. jeb might try to get more money, but the question jeb's supporters need to ask themselves where does he need to go next to win. florida is winner take all. so you have cruz, rubio and trump all out polling bush. >> you listen to what jeb bush was saying and we had him early and he's declaring victory saying is this no longer a three man race. will that help him? >> you have five candidates who think they're in a good position to win. i think there are candidates who

have money, but there's a lane for one establishment middle of the road and main stream conservative other wise basically cruz and trump are in the driver's seat. chris christie he took out the republicans most eelectable candidate what he did was help trump and cruz. did he want to do that? >> some would argue he did a similar thing for president obama in the last political contest. >> that's right, giving hugs to liberal democrats and republicans who can't win. that's chris christie for you. i hope he's happy in new jersey. >> let's see what happens. making some decisions there at home. >> i expect he'll drop out. >> thank you for joining us and we'll see you back here. >> interesting analysis. the time is currently 25 after the hour. we've seen hillary clinton working hard to win over the youth vote, but how are these moves translating the votes from

new hampshire and i always will. >> we have fox team coverage on this post primary day. we're covering the democrats, but we start on the republicans. >> good morning. a decisive victory for donald trump in new hampshire as its reported now with 92% of the results in fox news is saying that donald trump has won the new hampshire primary with 35% of the vote, john kasich with 16%, ted cruz coming in at 12% and jeb bush with a fourth place finish at 11%. marco rubio at 11% as well. chris christie at 8%. carly fiorina at 2%. donald trump with a victory and declaring victory he gave a familiar pledge.

>> we're going to win again and we are going to win so much you are going to be so happy, we are going to make america so great again, maybe greater than ever before. >> reporter: the other question was who would emerge of the governors. the answer is john kasich he fought with governor jeb bush and chris christie. he's saying his second place finish gives him very much needed momentum. >> there's magic in the air with this campaign because we don't see it as just another campaign, we see this as an opportunity for all of us and i mean all of us to be involved in something that's bigger than our own lives. >> according to campaign schedules it's kasich and the rest of the field on their way to south carolina for here. there will be a bit of a break and that's for the two senators in the republican field, senator ted cruz and senator marco rubio they are heading back to the u.s. senate to vote for a new

set of sanctions on north korea. back to you. >> live for us again. thank you. turning to the democrats and hillary gets burned. bernie sanders with a double digit win over clinton. we're live in manchester with that part of the race. >> reporter: vermont senator bernie sanders won big here in new hampshire. it was not unexpected. he had been leading in the polls, but the width of this victory is really significant. he defeated hillary clinton by a 20 point plus margin. polls show he won among women. sanders has focussed on income and equality, slamming the financial industry calling for an increase in the minimum wage and free college, the clinton camp has consistently tried to paint his proposals as unrealistic, but it's clear his

message resonated in in new hampshire. >> together we have sent the message that will eco from wall street to washington from main to california that the government of our great country belongs to all of the people and not just a handful of wealthy campaign contributors and their super pacs. >> reporter: clinton's loss is stinging because the granite state has been good to she and her husband. the former president bill clinton kpand aggressively with his wife contrasting her record with sanders record but that was not enough to claim another clinton win. secretary clinton has vowed to fight on for the long haul. >> so my friends, please join me in building on the progress

we've made under president obama pushing forward every single day for as long as it takes to breakdown those barriers that hold us back. >> reporter: the up coming battle ground states of south carolina and nevada are thought to favor secretary clinton because of the minority populations there, the latinos and african-americans. so it's yet to be seen whether senator sanders can bring in some of that minority vote and how things will progress from here. >> live for us in manchester. thank you. hillary clinton, she knows just how important the youth vote is. >> i know i have some work to do, particularly with young people. even if they are not supporting me now, i support them. >> but in fox news exit polls sanders led clinton 83 to 16 among 18 to 39 year olds. is there any way for clinton to win back support?

thanks you guys for wake up so early this morning. we appreciate it. >> go am. so again, last night hillary clinton losing the youth vote to bernie sanders 83-16%. in fact the only group that she won was 65 and older. that's not a place you want to be. >> not at all and i think hillary has to open up her campaign, i think she needs to go to college campuses. i think she has to be aggressive in taking her case directly to young people, but not what she looks like she's pandering, but she's going to forums where they are in control and she's kind of making her case and answering the tough questions, a lot of questions about the e-mails, about her fees and et cetera. she needs to express that in a way that is not sort of hampered by talking points and this feeling that she's trying to spin somebody on what's going on. that's something her message has to get better because bernie has a great message right now. >> this is not without trying to

win over the youth, she has had an all right speaking for her, she's been out trying to dance and make it seem like she's one with the young people. is she trying too hard here? >> she can go to all the excellently campuses she wants. the problem is the candidate. it's a problem with hillary clinton. we have this issue with trust worth eness, with like ability the fact that she's not able to connect with the youth. you have bernie sanders on the other hand 74 years old talking about the political revolution, having a message about income and equality, having a message about free college, everything is free, and that seems to be resonating with those voters. for the young liberal women they're insulted by the fact that they're expected for vote for hillary clinton because she's a woman. they are over the gender issue and we support a candidate not because she's a woman, but because they believe in the

candidate's message. >> so what does she do then because as we saw back in 2008 the youth vote matters. >> she has to take the pundits out of her ear and she needs to come out there and sort of explain to people what is going on. talk about her e-mails, she has to talk about her fees. we should have more clarity on what she's been up to and sort of answering these real concerns that are causing major headaches for her campaign and do it in a way that is authentic and let it out and i think she has to do that and at some point it might get too late. >> if you were advising the clinton campaign who would you tell her. >> i would tell her to get out of the race. i think for clinton she has to be -- she has to figure out a path where it's -- which it is addressing these very

controversial issues that plague her and not rely on her husband which i don't think has been helpful to her because he is going out and attacking bernie sanders. i think that's having a negative effect. i think for the young liberal democrats they're not liking this message and it's not about the past, it's not about the cor nation, it's about humbling yourself and trying to earn every single vote. i think there's a belief about going to the past of the clinton years. she needs to be looking to the future and talked about the future with a real message. >> i think that's well said. thanks for being with us. >> thatu thank you. and the time now is almost 20 minutes to the top of the hour. counting the cash in new hampshire, did you know that jeb bush spent $1,200 per vote. so how did that stack up to everyone else? we'll add up the numbers for you.

for some gop candidates forking over the cash in new hampshire didn't mean a big return on their investment. we have a closer look at that. >> reporter: good morning. we've heard cash is king but last saw how in many ways this election season is defying traditional political thought. while many are calling jeb bush's performance last night a victory, his campaign spent $31 million according to ad data from morning consult. that's more than twice as much as the second biggest spender, chris christie who spent

$18.5 million followed by marco rubio of 18.2 million. each vote cost jeb about $1,200. on the other end of the spending spectrum is the winner of the new hampshire primary donald trump whose campaign dropped $3.7 million on ads and ted cruz spent $585,000 and came out in third place. in total campaigns in both parties opened their wallets in new hampshire, in some cases nearly emtd their wallets spe. >> live for us. thank you. that is it a lot of money. new hampshire is in the books albeit an expensive books for some folks, but if you're looking for clarity during this election season don't bet on it. why we are in this 2016 race for

the long haul. thank you for joining us. >> gool. so traditionally if you take a look at new hampshire we would have a clearer picture as to where things are going to move from here, but you say that's not necessarily the case this year. >> it's not. first of all, you have a lot of candidates running who are pledging to go on to south carolina regardless of the outcome. the surprise -- there's some surprises last night for some people. john kasich beating his establishment rivals for that second place spot, but also you have marco rubio and jeb bush and ted cruz of course kind of bunched together at around 11% so far and all these candidates are thinking we need to continue on and see how the rest of the field plays out. i think south carolina will actually play a very big role this cycle in the field.

>> how big a blow is it to rubio that he fell behind in new hampshire behind bush and kasich. >> it's a significant blow i think and it raises questions about whether he can pick back up again by the time south carolina votes on the 20th. he pledged to do so to try and turn things around. at the same time his rivals feel more empowered by the results in new hampshire. john kasich, jeb bush especially. so i wouldn't be surprised if they start to go after him a little bit more heading into south carolina. i also think that chris christie, his results last night he said he's going to think about what the next steps are, but the writing on the wall doesn't look good for him. >> he says that he has a flight and he's gone home to new jersey to talk about it with his wife, but says he has a flight scheduled for south carolina and he's going. what are your redirections for

south carolina. >> i think donald trump is well positioned in that state so far, but i also think that jeb bush who has the endorsement of lindsey graham who has been campaigning around the state, jeb bush has built up a pretty significant operation in south carolina, i think they're well positioned. i think that marco rubio has focussed a lot on south carolina as well so there is the potential there. south carolina is a very different state from new hampshire besides geographically. it's a bigger state. the media markets are different and it tends to favor establishment candidates, but as we've seen in this election cycle so far anything goes. >> i know you said you are giving up betting against donald trump, correct? >> right. i think after new hampshire we can't rule it out and i think his kind of style of politics does carry an appeal in a place like south carolina. >> everyone that i talked with

connect with people. obviously it's something that bill clinton has done well as a politician, but hillary clinton struggles with the most. >> if you look at the reasons that mitt romney lost to barack obama i would argue the biggest one was the empathy gap. he got crushed when they say the candidate who cared about them. if you look at this election now in 2016 just last night here in new hampshire we saw the exit polls about hillary clinton. among the roughly one quarter of democratic voters in this state who priorityize empathy and caring, bernie sanders crushed hillary clinton. he won 82% of those democrats in this state. this is an ongoing for hillary clinton and it will continue into a general election if she's the nominee. >> it's interesting because the republican party gets hit for

the being the party that's not compassionate and doesn't connect with people. in this election cycle there have been moments have opened up and they get emotional talked about things that relate to voters. >> there will be a certain number of people that will be on the street dying and as a republican i don't want that to happen. >> for me i understand firsthand. my oldest sister who was my half sister struggled her whole life with drug and alcohol addiction. >> my brother was a veteran. he served in the green beret and as part of his training he jumped out of an airplane and he lost his two front teeth, but he's had to fight through this process and i've watched it firsthand. >> i'm pro-life and i think if you're pro-life life that means you have to be pro-life for the whole life. >> i'm not sure you can argue that a number of these

candidates struggle with empathy. >> no, it's interesting from the last debate you played a couple of clips, i tell you when you look at the google during the debate himself rubio talking about his brother and cruz talking about his sister were the two highest googled events while the debate was going on. people respond to those types of stories. i was sitting in the press filing room at that debate center and when ted cruz who sometimes fairly or unfairly gets knocked for not being particularly warm and connecting with people, when he was telling that his story about his half sister you could hear a pin drop in the press room. i think that's the key because i think conservatives often are very good at pointing to imper cal data and information saying this is what we have to do because this is the logical thing based on this information, you have to get to people's hearts first to get them to pay attention to you to really land
