stage. but in the end of the night unitty. >> i think that there was a part of him that enjoyed the celebrity. >> and a jail house braul caught on camera. where the sheriff had to install the cameras herself at her own expense. it is all "happening now". >> a lot of news to get to. starting with the last night's debate. sparks flying in the motor city as they battle it out for the crucial primary voters. i am jenna lee. >> and i am jon scott. with virtually all of the attacks toward donald trump. and the candidates are out
10:02 am
responding to the barage to the tone and tenor of the debate. they are live in detroit with more, carl. >> reporter: to say it was a brawt it. it was the most insults and attacks on donald trump than the other debates. this morning, trump on the campaign trail is responding and keeping the fight going, not only attacking ted cruz and marco rubio but the media in the wake of what was a rough night for him on the debate stage. >> i have to approximately you about the media, they are dishonest and worse than rubio and cruz. they are worse than little marco and lion ted cruz, i am telling you.
10:03 am
lying ted. my name is lying ted cruz. >> reporter: the folk in the audience were saying that it was hard for them to watch the fighting because it was constant yelling back and forth if. ted cruz on the campaign trail talked about p the stop trump effort and the campaigns are in negotiations and putting together plans for how they may stop trump from winning the nomination outright if he wins ohio or florida when the win or take all states. this is trump. >> we are seeing discussions in the party to come together. they are happening among the candidates and the activist and happening among the donors. there is no doubt if we are remaining divided donald trump wins.
10:04 am
that is a path to catastrophe. >> reporter: all of the candidates want others to drop out. none of them say they will do that. marco rubio pledged to campaign in all states. and kasich, after getting rave reviews and was positive p the most, it was an opportunity for him to get momentum and he would like to do well in michigan, next to his own in ohio. and so whether or not that would be the boost to provide that, it is unclear. he is getting more attention than he used to. >> carl, thank you. in last night's round of tough questions, peppered with scathing cross talk as candidates took aim at each other. >> i am the only person on on
10:05 am
the the stage that was actually the chief architect of balancing the federal budget. >> if you don't like obama care. donald trump funded harry reid and nancy pelosi to pass obama care. donald trump wrote checks to hillary clinton ten times x. four of those checks was to a presidential campaign. >> we are talking water boarding. ted had a hard time with the question. what do you think of water boarding. i said fine. go stronger. >> if you went to manhattan and say i am lying to the american people. >> you are the lying guy up here. you are the one. >> why are you hiding. >> excuse me, i have given my answer, lying ted. >> he is trying to do to the american people what he did to the people who signed up for the
10:06 am
course. >> this little guy lied so much about my record. >> here we g. >> i have never tried to go and get in the scrums that we are seeing on the stage and people say where were i go, you seem to be the adult on the stage. >> we'll talk about that with fortune magazine nina easton. and then we have the correspondent from the white house journal. 1237 delegates to win the white house on the republican today. did anything that happen last night derail his opportunity to pick up the rest of the delegates. >> it did not derail them. whether it hurt them or not remains to be seen. we don't have polling to know if it hurt him.
10:07 am
here's what people have to understand about donald trump. for all of the name calling and he was taking heavy incoming artillery and it has not hurt him. people who are looking for philosophical and conservative consistency, this guy, his core supporters are not self identified conservative people. they are people who a lot of them hurt by the economy and a lot of them want him to bash heads. what are the throw points. immigration, china stealing jobs from us. and spending a trillion on iraq for no good reason. this is not a conservative crowd that is looking for conservative consistency. those kinds of attacks are not going to stick. will trump university stuff hurt him? could, but we'll see.
10:08 am
>> generally, the idea of a brokered convention and going into a convention without a single nominee would give heart burn to the party leaders. but mitt romney encouraged the idea of going to the convention without with the candidates having 1237 delegates. >> what would be the normal worst case scenario would be the best according to the republicans. they are going to say we will have a brokered convention. there is no road map. you may not get the results you want. if you have a brokered convention, you increase the possibility of a third party candidate and you can have donald trump is the nominee and a republican runs as a third party candidate or someone else is the the nominee and donald
10:09 am
trump runs as a third party candidate. that is unlikely and we heard reince prebus saying it is unlikely. the magic number is 1237 and if donald trump wins the win or take all states like florida he could get the delegates or more. >> but obviously kasich and marco rubio hope to win their home states and prevent him from romping. what is the chances of marco rubio with 99 and john kasich getting 66 out of ohio? >> let's look at florida. i moan, trump is 20 points ahead in rubio's home state. that shows you how unlikely a contested convention is. you are right.
10:10 am
you have to have a scenario where rubio be gets florida and kasich gets ohio and those surrounding states. and that's what mitt romney hoped for and the scenario he laid out yesterday. but whether that can happen in this short of a time period is really remaining to be seen. >> we just talked with nina about the idea of trump supporters have sort of made up their minds and they will not be swayed by attacks on stage or put downs from romney or anything else. do you see it the same way? is the trump train on the tracks and headed toward a nomination? >> i think nina is right. trump is crossing kind of normal political lines and doesn't fit neatly in a category and a lot of people voting for him are not long- time republicans and don't
10:11 am
consider themselves conservatives and they will not likely be be dissuaded by the normal arguments and that would concern conservatives. we have not seen any put down of trump have resonance at this point and the republicans try to derail trump and you risk alienating those voters and if you prevent trump getting the nomination, what happens to the willorters? will they rally behind cruz or rubio if they feel like the rules were rewritten to derail their candidate. >> that's the question and has to be giving party leaders heart burn. the idea if donald trump doesn't get the nomination and somehow someone else does in the convention, then all of the trump supporters stay home and don't vote. >> that's the thing, whatever you think of donald trump and
10:12 am
certainly conservatives have a lot of trouble to him. they have attacked sxhim he pulled out of c-pac and speaking there. and conservatives have issues. and mitt rom no is concerned about a depression and there is a lot of issues, but trump is right he has brought now kinds of voters in to the party and he has broadened the base and made it a big per tent and the republican establishment wanted a bigger tent after mitt rom no's loss. you are getting a different kind of bigger tent than they bargained for. >> thank you, both. >> with all of the infighting last night, the democrats were sparred from most of the attacks. today hillary clinton and bernie

sanders back on the campaign trail. and of course, they have a debate of their own this weekend. mike emmanuel is with more on this story. >> reporter: a big prize up for grabs is michigan. both democrat candidates are spending time there today. senator sanders held a rally in southern illinois university. sanders spent time trying to contrast his is a campaign of the people and clinton's is the big money campaign. >> every politician in the world, democrat or republican, yes, i get money from the drug companies and foss ittil fuel industry and doesn't impact me. it doesn't matter. this is a question we have to it ask, why are they pouring millions into your campaign? >> last night in the fox gop debate, hillary clinton took to it twitter to jab at
10:14 am
republicans. for example, clinton tweeted the following. the more time that passes, scarier it gets donald trump behind a podium with a presidential seal. clinton is set to give a speech on jobs. she previewed her message this week. >> don't let anybody tell you we can't make things in america anymore. we can and we are and we will. if we change the incentives and the tax code instead of favoring the export of jobs, and instead favor the creation of jobs we will do just that together. >> reporter: expect to see both democrat candidates spending time in michigan in the next coming days. well, a robbery suspect picks the fight with the wrong

getting people talking today. and two editorials give perspective as what it all means and why we are all here. the republican party is shattering. stop trump and no matter the outcome, nothing will ever be the same. boeb jinda l said president obama created donald trump. and he bears the responsibility for him. and the president doesn't get credit for creating the most polarizing forces. not hillary. there would be no donald trump dominating the scene today if not for president obama. are the critiques fair? we'll ask ken and chuck. it is great to have you both back with us today. kevin, is donald trump
10:27 am
a creation of barak obama? >> no, he is the creation of mitt romney. if mitt rom no had won the scomplekz just had a chicken sandwich one at a for lunch he would probably been president. right now, you are seeing a splintering because people are angry and don't want to take it anymore. it is little misguided. obama had a role to play with it, but not what the democrats have done to the the republican party p. it is it a civil war inside of the conservative alternative. >> he could have had a bar-b-que chicken sandwich? and what do you you think about this? jindal said this is a contrast. >> i have done a lot of campaigns, you are outside of
10:28 am
the box. kevin is right. there is a phenomenon happening in the general public. all over the country that political consultants say run your campaign in this trump and what happened with trump and sanders, too. and they got outside of the box. and trump said things that makes consultants crazy. but there is unease in the population because people are sick and tired of being sick and tired and looking for an outlet. >> supporters think donald trump is a junkyard dog and a divider of the republican party and yet in a larger of the tents. can he be both? >> i don't know that he is. i don't know if people who voted in the primaries are going to return in the fall. if they are dedicated democrats
10:29 am
to play a game with the republicans in it the season, they will vote solid hillary. >> the interesting thing about this. i have sympathy for the feelings in the piece, but i think trump supporters and even people ho like noonan are misrepresenting his numbers. he's getting 34 percent so far in the states that he's winning. you have to really remember democrats and independents and republicans. only a 9th is attracted. >> you think the gop is making too big of a deal on donald trump. okay, we see is the whole thing playing out. and i know there are some people who are paid to have their opinion and we invite them on on to have their opinion. why doesn't everyone just chill out and see where it goes?
10:30 am
>> i don't write books for a living and i don't make queue kwou sandwiches and everything i thought about donald trump has been wrong. in the next 13 primaries, nine of them are close and win or take all in ohio and florida. we'll know who we are in three weeks. you will not stop donald trump or you will see a glimmer for one individual. >> instead of blaming the president and entire establishment is going to shatter, why not wait and see what happens? >> if you are a committed republican voter get out and support the candidate of your choice. and remember no matter what the fatalistic is your vote makes a difference and work your neighborhood and vote your conscience. >> you agree with that, chuck is this >> i do. if you are a democrat or
10:31 am
republican. we'll see how strong donald trump is in the primary. >> he would disagree and we would expect that as well. >> and you agree on and facial hair which is a really nice look for both of you. goatees and different perspective. good to see you, gentlemen, as always. >> a new clue may have emerged in the stabbing death of any -- nicole brown simpson and her friend ronald goldman.
10:35 am
>> a fox news alert in the bizarre and incredible update on the o.j. simpson case. they are looking at a history of a knife reportedly found buried in simpson's old estate. it is 20 years since the trial of the century when the former football and movie star was acquitted in the brutal murder of nicole brown simpson and her friend ron goldman. the new owners demolished the home. and the knife was turned over to the officer around that time by a construction worker on the
10:36 am
site. the now retired cop kept the knife at his home until turning it over to the police department in january. where do we go from here. arbly mercomment is a defense attorney. and dr. michael bodden is with us. and a fox news contributor. welcome to each and all of you. first of all, yodi, this is not going to some way reopen the case? o.j. simpson was charged. it was the trial of the century, but he was acquitted and there is no way or matter and this knife the real deal, no way you will reopen the case are you? >> double jeopary saids no, you you are not. o.j. simpson was charged and tried and acquitted of both of the murders of nicole brown simpson and ron goldman.
10:37 am
criminally charging o.j. simpson something he was tried for absolutely not. >> it may be that the former police officer that had the knife, again, the details are a little murky, but they were knocking down o.j. simpson's old mansion and a construction worker found the knife and a cop working a security on a movie set. it is not chlor, the department doesn't know. and the guy walked up to him and said i found this. the cop may have thought that the case is over and it is not good to anybody and i will keep the thing. >> but he could be facing obstruction charges. if he obstructed the investigation and what time he found it and alerted to the discovery of the knife. he could have been found to
10:38 am
violate the obstruction law. the problem is the statute of limitation has probably run and he will probably not face repercussion. >> the numbers took place in 1994. it was buried for four years. if there is blood on it, can they determine to whom that blood belong? >> yes, depending on how it was kept. blood and finger prints and dna will stay hundreds of years. if the knife was taken out of the ground it might be on it. and if it was washed off and fringer prints and blood. but sufficient to give dna analysis, are buried of krefs ass or the place where the blade hooks up with the handle of the knife and they may still be
10:39 am
available. however, at the time of the autopsy, the stab wounds were measured carefully. the width. the length and depth and thickness were all measured and i was involved way back then, more than a dozen knives that were are found in the area at the time they were looking for knifes none of them matched up with o.j. simpson and one has to be careful. it could be another red herring. and one other thing, jon, i mentioned in famous deaths whether it is it a serial murder or istein brain or execution of martin luther king in his lifetime, that doctors, police officers, judges, take trophies, not just serial murders that take trophies and that is
10:40 am
unprofessional. but it happens. >> i remember when i was covering that case back when it was more than a movie series on fx. they never found the knife. you are a former prosecutor, wouldn't the police department swept his estate with a metal detector. >> the lead detective already confirmed they did everything they could to find the weapon. now, a popular docu seryes on fx unravelling the case is on. the people versus o.j. simpson. in the trial the proscoug could not find the murder weapon. and they were emotionally invested and they want to it relive and relitigate and be an investigator, and i am going to think at this point, with the
10:41 am
knife finding, is something that is a hoax in my opinion. why now? why this knife? the lead investigator confirmed there is tips in the past. there is a series going on and they need ratings. i am not buying into it. this is the consequences of having a crime series where people want to rehash the issues. >> we should point out it could be nothing. >> it could be nothing. and why would you wait to bring this forward? at this point, other than the public knowing what happen. and we all want to know what happened and i think we all know what happened, but legally it is it insignificant. he cannot be retried for the case. it would not be admissible in the court of law and no bearing on the outcome of the case. at this point, it is it the public's interest in knowing the

>> after a year in space, astronaut scott kelly is back on the ground. the scientist will look at how his body changed in 0 gravity. the first and noticeable change scott kelly was two inches taller, at least temporarily. they will look at the changes in the gene activity. first of all, not only is he taller, but he's actually younger after a year in space. >> that's right, because of the relatively. he is.1seconds than his brother.
10:47 am
he is 6.1 minute younger. and so he was moving so fast and closer to the spode of light. he got little younger than all of us. nonly takes a year in space to be younger and taller. why is he taller. >> he was in 0 gravity and his muscle changes and less pressure to keep him compressed and he drifted taller. because he doesn't have the gravity pulling on his body as we do on earth. >> is it a mystery when he will return to the height he was before space? >> he will. most of the tissue in the body is fixed in a particular position. and we'll be watching for that to see how long it takes. because of long- term missions

california. the state's assembly passing bills to raise california's smoking age to 21 and to treat electronic cigarettes as tobacco products. william? >> well, r it also means those electronic cigarettes are going to be treated like traditional one, banned in restaurants, theatres and any public place, but the big news is california is likely to become the first major state to raise the legal smoking age to the legal drinking age because advocates say 95% of adult smokers start smoking before the age of 21. sigs from those who say it's unfair to young adults who are old nave to marry, vote, sign contracts and die for their country, but can't buy a pack of cigarettes. >> we should be able to buy cigarettes if you're 18 because if you're able to go to war, vote, but you can't buy cigarettes for yourself.
