for those of youdering what i mean by super tuesday, watch. >> have a great night. i'm megyn kelly. u%oining us on this special or midnight edition of "the five". donald trump scores victories in north carolina, illinois and florida. that is where he knocked out marco rubio and soon after, the senator from florida suspended his campaign. john kasich came with a with a victory in ohio. ted cruz shows no sign of slowing down. hillary clinton has so far beaten bernie sanders in ohio, florida and north carolina.
9:01 pm
many are still undecided about donald trump but tonight, trump vowed to bring the party together. >> the fact is that we have to bring our party together. we have to bring it together. we have something happening that makes the republican party probably the biggest political story in the world. everybody is writing about it. all over europe and the world. they're talking about it. it's just a different thing. we have a great opportunity and it's an incredible thing. >> kimberly, this is what you're talking about last week. and so leo dicaprio had a big
9:02 pm
night, right? i think this was a big night for donald trump. he did very well. ted cruz it would have been great for him tonight. >> correct. >> so see what happens there. and marco rubio, people thought he's going to have to step downed. he did not take his home state. he did. so i think that benefits ted cruz and seems to be somewhat of a episode of "survivor" that so kasich came in late. he said he's going to win ohio and if he didn't, he was going to get out of the race. having won, he think he'll stick it out.
9:03 pm
>> he did. he had a very nice speech. his victory speech was sweet. he's a nice guy. a really nice guy. he still only has 136 delegates, total. and there is another 107 left to be divided up. and so this is a resounding win. his speech was different and it wasn't as cocky as it used to be. it's going to be me, so let's get it together. now, rather than fight this out. i don't know that john kasich staying in is going to help
9:04 pm
donald trump. now, marco rubio is out, you have an alternative to donald trump. now, you have two. you're going to split this vote. and both of them still in, you know, the establishment type. it's a different story. >> we've mentioned them, let's go to marco rubio to announce it was the end of his campaign. let's take a listen. >> after tonight it is clear that we're on the right side, this year, we will not be on the winning side. while this may not have been the year for a hopeful and optimi optimistoptimis optimistic, and my campaign is

suspended, the fact that i have come this far is evidence of how special america truly is. >> rubio issued a warning against so called politics of resentment. he says it is damaging the g.o.p. and the nation. >> politics of resentment against other people will not just leave us a fractured party but a fractured nation. this may not have been the year for a hopeful message about you are future, i still remain hopeful about america. >> trump winning three states, kasich winning ohio. marco rubio deciding to suspend his campaign. >> the most sensible assessment of rubio's down fall comes from mickey kalt. he says rubio has all of these positives seeming to be performing best against hillary. one thing brought him down,
9:06 pm
immigration. trump made it that issue there is no way rubio could get back up and reach a stature on that level. that was the thing that would bring him down. trump, people talked about the insider versus outsider. i don't think it's about that. i think it's about immunity. where obama had the historical first immunity. first black candidate. that allowed him a measured immunity about his history, a lot of people, he didn't have all, or a long, you know, resume of achievement. it didn't matter, trump has an immunity as being an entertainer. in order to be able to stay whatever we want and not have people come after you, that is a new thing and refreshing and changing the republican party. people aren't used to this sort of thing. republican party is used to being attacked for being sexist
9:07 pm
or mean. and basically, what trump is saying is, i don't care. and it seems to be working. working now more than ever. >> i like the point you made because it's interesting and true. one of the first things that resonated is we're going to build a wall, like wow. this is a big, bold statement and there was really laid out that was like the albatross around marco rubio's neck, the gang of eight. and so it elevated ted cruz who wasn't and donald trump who had a specific grandiose plan to build a wall and that started trump off. >> among polling tonight, polling was a critical ish yu. >> the important issue in every republican poll since we've started. >> you say fourth? you're talking about single

digits? like 12%, 15%. i am curious, i'm very curious, why rubio fell off the table? i go back to the idea that it was when he started to go with trump and people said, you know i like the optimistic, sweet marco rubio. i'm not so crazy about marco rubio talking about hand size. >> i don't think that it is it, either. >> when you talk about marco rubio, you say what was the message? >> before trump attacks marco rubio, right to rise pack attacked him for being not ready. then, trump came in with little marco, and you're not ready, too young. he's the same age as chris christ christie. >> right.
9:09 pm
right. >> and there is another thing, too. you have to, we talked about this. there are 17 candidates. when you have 17 people and one of them is donald trump, donald trump appears much different and apart from them because they're all senators and governors and what not. trump stood out. his use of social networks. you go to airline counter, you can't get anything done. you tweet about virgin air or united airlines. trump did the same thing with the media. he took his commitment to a channel of confession. it cost nothing. then, all of a sudden that spilled to put it together. >> to me, what happened tonight is he had a fantastic night, i think. he had now controlled a narrative.
9:10 pm
he's got do a tremendous amount. right now, the talk, the media is going to be hailed the new king of the republican party. the problem is that he is calling for unity. i don't know if many republicans are willing to play ball. it's like 60% of nontrump voters. and they won't hold for trump. >> you have to identify those voters as hard to get, right? and that you have to go beyond that to understand why again. >> and you know whether trump will get nominations.
9:11 pm
you know a good percentage of them saying i didn't think i can do it. >> here is the way i'm hearing this. right now, if you nominated let's say rubio, and rubio versus hillary clinton, the focus would be on hillary clinton? i don't know about her trust worthiness. remember that benghazi? but with donald trump, the focus is going to be on donald trump and things he said. >> 60% of republicans don't want to vote for him. >> when it's time to pull a lever they end up with 47%.
9:12 pm
remember? >> that is among a limited universe. >> if you're talking about independents and democrats? he's going to bring democrats over? >> just point to other things. >> no. don't. >> we have another block. >> he's going to be a kinder, gentler trump this is going to be the most eagerly awaited transition since bruce became caitlyn. >> we'll be right back. i have asthma...

welcome back, fox news project hillary clinton will narrowly defeat bernie sanders in the g.o.p. primary. ted cruz fails to win any states tonight. despite that, he says he is the only candidate that can beat trump. >> only two campaigns have a plausible path to the nomination. ours and donald trump's. nobody else has any mathematical possibility whatsoever. only one campaign has beaten donald trump over and over and over again.
9:18 pm
not once, not twice, not three times, but nine times, across the country. >> and so ted cruz failed to win states, tonight, missouri still up for grabs and we'll bring that to you as soon as we have it. let's go over the path math.als people that have a path. >> well, he's right and he's out mathematically out. ted cruz could do it, but that is likely going to happen. >> keep doing that. >> if you think about 3 or 4 times, but hook.
9:19 pm
ted cruz has a rough go but there are states coming up. so, i love the fact that there are two potential candidates going at it. it's great, it's great and. >> interesting partñi is that pf you look the at past and try to look forward to the type of appeal that he has, what could be potentially his path going forward? versus kasich? >> evangelicals split tonight.
9:20 pm
i don't think any of us is a fore gone conclusion. rubio's people said one policy guys said it's time for anyone who supported marco rubio to harness that disappointment. so what matters is that we get to 1237 or not. if you don't? then, it goes to a convention where all sorts of things can happen. i would look at that. on the cruz campaign, i have to say it's one of the best organizations have i ever seen in terms of ground game is excellent and they're quiet about it. they spend little money. they have been well managed. that is a credit. >> kasich to cruz.
9:21 pm
and it's actually cruz. >> i go back to my only question, who can beat hillary? i know between kuz and trump, i look at cruz. he is a conservative that democrats could hate. he's ideologically pure and people say they'll be aprily to run against trump. >> i think you're right. he has that appeal and because of this conservatism.
9:22 pm
>> i think that is kind of a hopeful vision if you look. because what we know, if you look at head to head match ups, hillary clinton beats it. so people talk about is there a ready for ted cruz? i think for ted cruz if i was republican. i would say i know he's a conservative. i think you're going to hear this in days still to come. and he's getting there. and kasich could do well in the northeast. going west, oh, boy. that opens doors for ted cruz and the scenario is not for them to get to 437.
9:23 pm
it's to block donald trump from getting to that number so they can force a convention. >> it just feels like the tone is changing for it now. >> don't be fooled by the celebration tonight. if you're ted cruz, if you're john kasich, you're saying to yourself we can win. >> i want you to know it's been my intention to make you proud and to have young people across the country watch people enter
