want to be president? if your name is not donald trump there could be a slot for you because the not trump movement is looking for a savior. a small group of conservative activist met today in washington to talk, they tell us, about stopping donald trump. and they say they're considering supporting a third-party candidate if the billionaire wins the republican nomination. one organizer is eric ericson. he says the group would prefer to handle the issue at the convention. other anti-trumpers are holing court. the leader of a super pac detonated to stopping donald trump says8ñ supporters plan to meet in the coming days to try to think up a new strategy. they already spent millions of dollars on ac tadds in florida and got crushed. earlier today the former house speaker, newt gingrich, told fox news that any effort to put up a conservative third party candidate would hand the white house to hillary clinton. >> if they want to form the, let's hillary clinton club,

12:03 pm
responsibility. the house peeker, paul ryan, reacted to trump's comments. >> nobody should say such things in my opinion because to even address or hint to violence is unacceptable. >> speaker ryan had previously spoken out against donald trump but now also says he intends to support the billionaire if he wins the nomination. if conservatives are split on support, liberal groups are speaking in ewanson against trump. 22 of them, including move oregon.org have2: released a letter saying in part, this is a five-alarm fire for our democracy. a hate pedaling big got. it is alarming and dangerous. doug hye has worked in the house and u.s. senate, served in president george w. bush's administration and is live from capitol hill. thank you. >> good to be with you. >> dangerous, bigot? >> i don't think donald trump is a bigot. i think he is playing the roll

12:05 pm
that? you will dance around it but not say it. that? >> no, shep, i've said i think he is using bigoted hawk. >> who he trying to attracted when he uses bigoted language. >> his trying to attract bigots and attract as many voter as he can do and do so by dominating all media coverage last weekend, friday night, when we were trying to watch basketball games and other things, we all watched what was happening in chicago, which meant that if you're marco rubio you couldn't get your message out on the last couple of days before the florida primary. i you're ted cruz youw struggle to get your message out. donald trump yet again dominated all media coverage. >> did he do that on purpose. >> i'm sorry. >> some reports that suggestions that might have been contrived, might have been intentional. what is your opinion on that matter? >> i don't know if it was contrived or intentional or not. there were a lot of left-wing agitators who showed up on purpose to disrupt and deny trump having his event, which is absolutely shameful.
12:06 pm
goes back to what paul ryan was saying and john kashich being saying, about the kind of language we need in our democracy and in the debate right now for the republican party. >> okay. >> donald trump's rhetoric of hate and violence is terrible. >> you said the people who went out to demonstrate against what you just called trump's rhetoric of hate and bigotry, the people who went out to disrupt that sort of talk, were wrong to do so? why? >> i think if you're trying to deny any candidate the right to hold their own event, the right to voice their opinion, that's not a1f good thing, and these we organized leftist activists on a lot educations, moveon.org and a pro bernie tweet with 44,000 followers, congratulated themselves, tried to organize this. i think all the candidates have a right to say what ware going to say without being -- having their voice shut down, but there's no doubt that donald trump time and time again has advocated violence and told people to punch them in the face, talked about carrying people out on stretchers.
12:07 pm
if you punch somebody in the face, donald trump may pay your legal bills. that's not the kind of rhetoric we need in our country, and as donald trump says the world is laughing at us, the reality is the world is scared of what is happening in the republican party and in america right now, and our close allies should be scared. >> meeting today in washington, those -- the not-trump crowd, trying to come up with a strategy. the discussion about a third-matter candidate. were you at that meeting and can that strategy work or can theyd find one that would cork? >> was not at the meeting but it's not clear it would work. as long as trump is shy of the number to get the delegates nose be the nominee, republicans should do whatever they took block him. i think he would be a disaster on the presidential level and very disruptive to the senate and house candidates running for re-election. it he earns it fair and square, there's very little the party can do and should do. i won't be voting for him in november if he is our nominee, but whatever we can do between now and then to do so i think
12:08 pm
would be the good thing to do. the problem is donald trump -- this is to trump residents credit -- has been able to define himself over the last eight months as a strong leader, and as somebody who is going to fight back on everything that the obama administration has done, and all the while, most of the presidential campaigns on the republican side have refused to attack trump. it's been like the old life serial commercials with@ mikey. i don't want to attack trump. you attack trump. in the summer they said, he's not serious in the fall we said you can't attack trump, it's not going work in the winter you can't attack trump, it's too late. there's one common theme and republicans allowed this to happen, and the democrats are not going to make the same mistake that republicans made. they're going to pounce on trump hard and quickly and going to be difficult for him to win in november. >> you said that he is making promises that north keepable, isn't that a pattern since the tea party crowd came in?
12:09 pm
making promises, repealing, replacing obamacare, the sorts of things they had to have known they couldn't do but their constituents did not know? can donald trump build a wall? deport 11 million illegal immigrants? is anything he discussed even nobody your mind? >> first off, when i worked in the house of representatives we said the house will street repeal obamacare. that's what the houston did. we can't make the senate act or make the president sign -- >> that's not fair, doug. that's -- when you made those promise outside knew full well you couldn't get it past the white house. didn't you lead people to believe you were going to be able to other those things? by some miracle you would get it past the president, by some loophole, knowing you could not? we knew you choo not and we reported it here all 61 times. ñ republicans clear they're not going to be able to force the president's hand on signing an obamacare repeal -- >> wait, wait, you signed legislation, you put legislation into place 61 times. it's something that happened over and over, were people4not
12:10 pm
to think they believe they can repeal and replays obamacare when you did not believe that but kept doing the same thing. did not not mislead people? >> we were trying to repeal parts of it. some things president obama did sign into late. don't know where trump stands on anything. talks about building a all one day, the next day says everything is negotiable. does he think think think is a d hillary clinton is a strong leader or critical of hillary clinton? we meant to because he has been on every side of every issue and one of my big concerns if we think donald trump is dangerous for the country, what happen with supreme court nomineeçc wih donald trump when he is president and all bets are off? dangerous foranybody really the country. >> doug hye, thank you very much. nice to talk to you again appreciate it. >> i'm tired, shep, but thank you. >> we had 50 more minutes.

the hacker group, anonymous, has taken things to a higher level and declared, quote, total war against donald trump. the group is now instructing fellow hackers to launch cyber attacks expense web sites for billionaire roz campaign and his businesses. what is anonymous and its people trying to do. >> they're posting a new video saying they want people to help them, whether they're hackers or not go do after donald trump, specifically on april 1st, on his trump9i94f chicago.com web e they've want to do what they did in december. what they say they want to do is this is a call to arms. a direct quote. we need to shut down his web sites, research and expose what he doesn't want the public to know. we need you dismantle his campaign and sabotage his brand. they want to overwhelm his trump chicago.com web site with unwanted traffic to bring it down. they did it for trump tower international here in new york city, back in december, when trump made comments about banning muslims from entering the united states. anonymous didn't like it.
12:12 pm
but there's new developments today. anonymous, they're anonymous, and they don't all agree, and some anonymous hackers are coming out and saying this isn't going tod work. didn't work last time. not hacking by just overwhelming his site and bill be ineffective. so are cracks in the vein near, and trump's campaign is not talking. >> as the news continues this afternoon, donald trump has talked about how he is covering costs for his campaign. but running for president is a billion dollar enterprise and the "associated press" now reports that after the primary election is over, he may seek other money. money from the rnc, the republican national committee. and would he use his super pac? that's coming up from the afternoon. er people when they actually did start saving.

donald trump repeatedly reminded us throughout that this election, during it, he is,ç2#z funding his own campaign. i'm self-funded, we all heard and it said he would spend, quote, whatever it takes to win. says he has dropped millions of dollars but now saying he will raise money for the run national committee. the "associated press" reports he has good reason for that because he may need rnc money and resources if he becomes the nominee. which got more likely an his primary wins this week. julie is here in washington, an national political reporter for
12:16 pm
the "associated press" and wrote about his rnc plan. julie, how does he plan to get money from the rnc, how much, and how use you it? >> the viewers know the tom knee partners with the national committee going forward into the general election, and that could work out really, really well for trump because the couple things he is weak(d on as a candidate, specifically data collection, and use of data, and ground troops, that happens to be the very same areas where the party has been building up over the years. so, it could work out to be a good partnership between trump if he is the nominee and the national committee. >> are they working and playing together better these days? >> a little all over the map at this point. reince priebus says that the party eggs willing to -- party is willing and and will work with any of the candidates who become the nominee, but trump has ruffled some feathers but
12:17 pm
being upset when the rnc tried to use his name to rates money a little bit earlier this year. at the same time recently we have been hearing fromg]árump saying, hey, would raise money for the party. that's no problem. less committed to raise money for his own campaign but raising money for the party helps him in the first place anyway. >> sort of the same exact thing. >> exactly. >> at the same time these leading conservatives who would normally be trumpeting a front-runner with this sort of delegate lead, those people are out discussing openly seeking a third-party candidate and you wonder if that would create a situation where the rnc would be working against its more favored person for a person already said openly it hates. that doesn't inspire enthusiasm. how would you qualify it? >> well, i think that there -- it could get very messy. that much is clear. and so one of the questions that we just don't have an answer to
12:18 pm
yet is how will the outside groups factor into all of this, the super pacs. a lot of great big groups with hundreds of millions of dollars, tons of research on hillary clinton that have been so eager to go against her in a general election, but at the same time trump has been disparaging super pacs and big donors right and left so what the super pac does a very open question. especially if there's a third-party candidate. i could see them sort of waiting on the sidelines for a while to see what plays out at the convention. >> could this become a money-making prospect for donald trump? >> well, he certainly is not shy about touting his various products. trump steaks, trump wine, holds events at his properties, so that way he is getting a lot of publicity for himself and certainly is in some ways further bolstering his public image. so, in that sense, this has been a very successful endeavor for
12:19 pm
him, but we have eight months to go, and if he is the nominee there's no telling what happens. both with the party and with donald trumpu himself. >> julie, national political report for ap, thank you. >> thank you. >> bernie sanders' aides say he may be on the verge of a big winning streak but hillary hilly clinton's camp claims he she has the nomination wrapped up. did president obama endorse? no. that would have flashed on your phone but you'll hear what the told donors behind closed doors, next.
