i'm abby huntsman. >> and i'm heather childers. thank you so much for starting your day with us as always. shocking new video showing what happened right before and after the murder of ex-nfl player will smith. >> let's get right to kelly wright who is live in washington, d.c., with the latest on that. kelly, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you as well, abby and heather. this dramatic video was taken moments after the shooting that took the life of former nfl player will smith and wounded his wife. let's take a look at it right now. you can see the suspect, cardell hayes husband. and you can hear smith's wife cry out, my husband. you can hear her screaming in pain from being shot twice in the right leg. >> i need an ambulance or something. >> so much pain going on right there with her bodily and physically and emotionally because of what's taking place with her husband. video obtained from our

affiliate fox 8. smith's mercedes suv is seen possibly rear ending hayes hummer. hayes pulls over and then smith follows him. police say at an intersection hayes rear ended smith. the two men exchanged words. hayes pulls out a gun, shoots smith several times killing him and wounding his wife. a former teammate and friend of smith's said the shooting was a cowardly act. >> when i came out yesterday and called him a coward, i received death threats from guys in new orleans from his relatives. i'm thinking to myself, well, what do you guys want from me? i'm only here to speak the truth. that's it. i'm not trying to steal anybody's life. i'm trying to give everybody the truth though.

>> hayes appeared in court monday. he has been charged with second degree murder. his bail has been set at $1 million. he has been appointed a new attorney. meanwhile, will's coach sean payton is speaking out against gun violence. here's what he says, quote, i find myself leaning to the right on some issues, but on this issue i can't wrap my brain around it. i hate guns. police chief and new orleans mayor, by the way, visited raquel smith and her family in the hospital. they personally expressed their condolences to the family. they say the family is understandably going through a very tough time. heather and abby? >> three young children. thank you. kelly wright live for us. listen to this. an alarming new warning about the threat of the zika virus to the united states. >> we absolutely need to be ready, you know, as they were saying, everything we look at

with this virus seems to be scarier than we initially thought. >> the cdc is sounding the alarm after mosquitoes carrying the virus are found in 30 states. health officials say zika is now linked to a broader set of complications in pregnancy than first thought. the biggest concern is puerto rico. that is where there could be hundreds of thousands of cases. the white house and congress now fighting over emergency response. >> that is some unsettling news. new overnight, the taliban promising large scale attacks in a so-called spring offensive. they're marking the launch of a violent summer as they say wagging jihad is a holy obligation. they're expected to incorporate homicide bombings, assassinations and other tactics to fight american and afghan security forces. hundreds of people attended duelling rallies supporting and opposing north carolina's controversial bathroom bill.

it requires people to use bathrooms based on their birth gender. this as another musician joins the force of opposition. ♪ ♪ >> despite objecting to the bill, jimmy buffet is refusing to cancel two sold out concerts saying that he doesn't want to let his fans down. unlike bruce springstein who canceled a concert over the weekend. well, the pressure is on. just one week before new york's big primary day, new poll has donald trump and hillary clinton with double digit leads over their rivals. kristen fisher is live following the late jest on the campaign trail. kristen, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, abby. for the second day in a row there's a new poll out giving trump a double digit lead. trump is at 54%, kasich 21 and ted cruz at 18. this poll also asks republican primary voters in new york what should happen if trump wins the

most delegates but falls short of the 1237 number that's needed to clinch the nomination. turns out an overwhelming number, 64% say in that case trump should still get the nomination. only 28% said that it should go to someone else. last night trump had a huge rally in albany, new york. about 10,000 people were there. trump was interrupted multiple times by protesters but trump begged his security team and supporters to keep things peaceful and they did. that allowed trump to focus his fire on the real target of the night, the system of selecting delegates which he called rigged, crooked and corrupt. >> next tuesday you're going to go out and vote. you hear them when they say, it doesn't matter who you vote for, this is a great democracy. what we found out in colorado and in other places, this is not a democracy like we're supposed to have. we're going to make it a better democracy. we're not going to have rged elections.

voters, at least according to this new poll. it shows clinton ahead 55 to 41. again, here we have two polls in two days and both show the front-runners, clinton and trump, way ahead in new york. heather? >> kristin fisher live in new york. thank you, kristin. more than 400 protesters arrested on capitol hill demonstrating against the role of money in politics. >> money in politics. >> protesters held signs reading things go better without koch. that of course a reference to the billionaire business men david and charles koch who have promised to lead a $900 million campaign to back favorite candidates. they also protested state voter i.d. laws and democratic super delegates. >> is donald trump the only target? well, after printing a fake front page predicting the chaos of a trump presidency, "the boston globe" is not saying

colleagues were putting the constitution together on that hot summer i don't remember anybody incorporating in article 2 that the cia director could overrule the president. they didn't even have a cia director at the time. it's one thing for him to disagree with a policy and say that he disagrees with it or agrees with it. it's another for him to say -- for john brennan to say that he would take -- not take an action even if he were ordered by the president to do so. >> well, i'm hearing on protecting taxpayer information and the role could examine how the irs is keeping your personal information safe from cyber criminals and what improvements are neglects. the irs commissioner is just one of six people expected to testify in that hearing and this comes as the irs continues to shift towards more electronic filings and support services. and supreme court nominee merrick garland will have one of the most important meetings yet on capitol hill this morning.

here tracking all of it. good morning, maria. >> good morning. this thing is a very slow mover. we'll be dealing with heavy rain along areas along the golf coast. take a look at the radar. you can see a busy picture this morning. we do have a cold front stretching eastward bringing in areas of rain. parts of texas, that is where we do have to deal with a lot of heavy rain and also areas farther east along parts of the golf coast with several inches of rainfall in the forecast. we have a threat of additional severe weather across southern parts of texas. additional large hail could be produced in some of those storms. temperatures right now, you can see some of the numbers behind the front. much colder out there in the 30s right now in cleveland, chicago. only in the 20s in minneapolis. ahead of it, we have warm and humid conditions. temperatures already in the 70s along parts of the gulf coast. in the 60s in atlanta. as we head into this afternoon the cold front bringing in some cooler air across portions of

welcome back. a 17-year-old girl rescued off the coast of florida after getting stranded in her kayak. look at her there. she had to have been scared. the girl was on a two mile trip with her family on sunday when her arms got tired and she decided to turn around, but on the way back she lost her paddles. and then she started to drift. the teen was rescued four hours later by the coast guard. abby? >> heather, listen to this incredible story. a fire ripped through a bed and breakfast in virginia but not one person was hurt thanks to a quick thinking 10-year-old brave boy who jumped into action. >> i screamed to the top of my lungs and i said, everyone out, there's a fire. >> unbelievable. the gutsy 10-year-old saw the flames, ran right into the bed and breakfast next to his house began screaming waking 40 people up who were staying there for a wedding. the wedding did go on thanks to the young hero who was invited. i just love that. >> yeah.
