2:00 pm
it's enough. >> but they are not, are they? an appeals court ruling 2-1, you are going to be suspended four games. can't get away from it. i'll explain later. here's "the five" now. >> hello. it's 5:00 in new york city and this is "the five." the eve of another big election day. donald trump could sweep all five contests in the east tomorrow. he has a double digit lead in all of them. they know they can no longer mathematically clinch the nomination. they have a plan. cruz and kasich are coordinating their efforts of stop trump in three states. kasich is on the sideline for indiana's primary and cruz out in oregon and new mexico.
2:01 pm
they talked about their agreement on the trail today. >> it is big news today that john kasich decided to pull out of indiana to give us a head-to-head contest with donald trump. that is good for the men and women of indiana and the people of the country. i understand donald will whine. that's what he does. donald is a sore loser. >> the two of us are competing to win the nomination and to make sure we can steward or resources to stop hillary clinton. what donald trump needs to understand is he cannot beat hillary clinton. >> i'm not campaigning in indiana and he's not campaigning in other states. that's all. that's all it is. not a big deal. >> as you can imagine, hmm, trump has a few things to say about it. >> if you callude in business or the stock market, they put you in jail.
2:02 pm
in politics, because it's a rigged system, a corrupt enterprise, in politics you are alo allowed to callude. it shows how weak they are and pathetic they are. ka sit, he's won one race in 41. now look at kasich, i don't think he knows -- did you see him? he has a news conference all the time when he's eating. i have never seen a human being eat in such a disgusting fashion. i watched cruz. he's all mixed up because he's losing so badly. under pressure, he is like a basket case. >> oh, my goodness. you knew he wasn't going to take kindly.
2:03 pm
you heard the juxtaposition of how they did this and how kasich said it. >> when i heard this is going on, it's like why are they doing this? they are playing where trump wants them to play. trump has been saying it's us versus them, i'm the outsider, they are washington, d.c., they are the establishment, us against them. then they decide to get together and do exactly what trump is saying d.c. is about. this is the first point that is going to play in trump's favor. number two, when i heard cruz say kasich pulled out of indiana, i thought oh, my god. when kasich hears this, he's going to fire back. the point, be sure you know who you are getting in bed with and the other wants to get in bed with you otherwise, it could be ugly. if it works, you have contested convention. everyone is going to say the republicans are divided. if it doesn't work, you have handed the whole thing to donald trump. i didn't think that was a
2:04 pm
sensible thing to do it. the third point, it's ugly from the outsiders watching this from afar, they do play by a different set of rules on a day by day by sis. i think it's going to backfire for them. >> he didn't know what the word meant. when henry asked hillary clinton, what does it mean, don't pretend like you don't know. collusion, what are you talking collusion? ted cruz saysit it's not a big deal. i'm going to vote. what is it? this is the worst play ever. no one is on the same page. rubio tried to say this, kasich has no shot, i'll pull out. kasich said what are you talking about? i'll take my four votes. it makes no sense as if they did not speak.
2:05 pm
>> donald trump points this out. in the business world, if you did this, you would go to jail. if coke and pepsi got together to wipe out another competitor, they would be broken up. no, you can't do that. someone would get in trouble. may wink, do a nod. they market themselves. it's the same thing. >> kasich is more fair about it than -- >> it shows how ugly politics can be. >> david, what did you think of the strategy and speaks to the campaign. how do you think, benefit cruz more than kasich? >> there's a reason it hasn't happened before now. it's really hard. if you are a candidate that's been raising money, have supporters in various states, it's hard to admit you are not going to get to the 1247 and work with another partner. i think collusion is a terrible word for it. it's a strategy. it may not work. it looks at desperation.
2:06 pm
it may work. if i were donald trump, i, of course, my advice would be different for him anyway. consider me the hayes of fox news. remember her? the republican who worked in the west wing for department on the show. they pulled her out of the basement once in awhile. what do you think? it was only her opinion. i'm her at the moment. if i were donald trump, i wouldn't have addressed this. what he did is revert back to what everyone was praising him for not doing last week, being so presidential. he had to attack them personally. he doesn't like to be handled. here, try this. people like me like this. we like it. we are watching it laughing. i think if i were him, i would let my surrogates handle cruz and kasich who are so desperate, so far below and so far behind in the delegate count. he could use today to attack
2:07 pm
hillary clinton. i'm going to be the general election candidate, i will show you i can beat her. that would have been a different way. >> we know he has surrogates rather than his family. >> he has more. >> a new national poll showing the margin of error -- >> why not try to collude on tuesday, tomorrow? may 3, i'm going to affect the race. and later on in oregon. why not collude tomorrow? if you combine kasich's number and cruise's number. >> tomorrow, trump has a 25 to 30 point lead. >> take all five. >> that's the pountz. that's the big story here, the numbers, the poll numbers are overwhelming for trump tomorrow. in five states, 100 plus 70. he wraps that up. what we are talking about are states like indiana. when you get to indiana, then you are trying to block trump
2:08 pm
from having 1372 or whatever it is, 71. >> 1237. >> 1237. if you can stop trump and you are cruz, you think you have now. over the weekend, cruz, a number of people who promised to vote for him, if you come to a second round of voting at the convention. it's a smart move for ted cruz. for kasich, it's a desperation. it's a move that says if we get there, i can make the case that my numbers are sufficient to beat hillary clinton. guess what? ted cruz doesn't have that. that's his play in the game. i think donald trump, as dana was saying, he didn't need to respond. he's in great shape. you notice he is focused heavily on indiana. that's because -- >> he should be. >> that's where they are focused. that's where this new team, trump. this idea that it helps donald trump, no, it doesn't help.
2:09 pm
it might help with people already voting for him. what we are talking about is can he unify the republican party. >> you don't think some people will say i kind of like ted cruz z, i like john kasich, but now they are going to try to conspire -- >> no. you know, it might be an issue for people who feel the republican party is -- those people are already voting for trump. they are not voting for -- >> i don't know. it's certainly an all in strategy. not donald trump. he can still lose indiana and go forward. if he wins indiana, i would say cruz and kasich put them in. if it doesn't work there -- >> they need the contested conventi convention. that's the bottom line. >> i think the fox poll has cruz within five. can kasich, not spending money, get in the five points? it's possible, however the
2:10 pm
people who don't vote for kasich, trump might be their number two. >> i think kasich has 19% in indiana, right? >> 19 or 20. >> that's a lot. that's a lot. remember -- >> why do i have to leave? he's out of the game. >> yeah, yeah, yeah. >> i agree. i don't think he should have given it up at all. >> i don't think it's collusion. that's donald trump's word because of the illegality. >> back out of the contract. >> perception becomes reality. >> win to defeat the other guy and try to win -- it reeks. it's like politics, we don't do that. >> imagine politics -- are you kidding? >> tell your kid to -- >> game of survivor. >> exactly. i thought this was reality tv election. >> did you watch "game of
2:11 pm
thrones"? they do it all the time. >> one more thought from hayes. >> cruz and kasich, it's sort of like, let's say they have family businesses and they are about to be taken other by the corporation, the hedge funds coming in, they know their dreams, their family business is over, they want to stave it off as long as possible, so they get together to make a bigger corporation to go forward and not have the hospital takeover. it may not work. sorry dad, we lost the business. then the republican party -- >> it's not a takeover by trump approving kasich, it's the voters, the customers. >> that's right. i'm saying -- >> they decided to go to the big company. >> not all of them. not all of them, exactly. >> okay. if you want to use that metric, 90 something per cecent of the republicans don't want kasich
