the pro-snowden argument is this is a free society, this is the united states of america, we have -- the government should be transparent and we have a right to know what the government is doing. and he took oaths when he worked for the cia and then the nsa. one oath was to keep secret what he learned. and the other was, and i took this oath when i became a judge, to preserve, protect and defend the constitution. when it is impossible to comply with both of those, you comply with the higher of the two and you reveal what is failing to preserve, protect athe constitution. i don't know how this ends up. >> it looks like he's presented as a hero, the guy who said, hey, america, the nsa can turn your phone on in your pocket, turn on your camera and listen any time they want to. >> that is true. i don't know they have the resources to do that. >> they could if they wanted to. >> to do that to everyone all the time, but absolutely, they can do that. what i am always concerned about

studio. here we have dennis puleo, then we've got bob falk, tom hanks -- loved you, so thank you. and robert devenezia. thank you for joining us. who remembers that picture 50 years ago as if it was about a month and a half ago? >> well, i think all of us. >> tell us a little bit about that. >> well, i have to correct you because the first picture was taken ocean side, california. >> it was in california. >> the second one was at -- >> st. augustine. but what was the question? >> you know, what do you remember about it then? >> first picture? >> yep. >> just the four of us guys on a weekend. just getting together. we just started getting together as friends. somehow, we don't know how we connected as friends out there. we started to hang around. one day we went to the beach. we said, let's get a surfboard and we get that surfboard. put it in the sand.

and took that picture. >> somebody had a camera? >> i had a camera. >> tom hanks had the camera. >> it's my hobby, and it still is. we used to get weekends off after hard work at pendleton. so we took the picture for fun. >> okay. >> i do remember a little bit about the board. we shook a guy down. [ laughter ] no serious. we intimidated this guy. >> we need your surfboard. >> yeah, we said we need it right now and he took the picture of us. >> we were very full of ourselves. we really were. we were all part of the weapons platoon. three machine gunners and a bazooka man. we didn't know what what we were headed for but we were excited. we were going on a ship called the iwo jima. we were going to park off the coast of iwo jima and it was going to be exciting. of course, that all changed 11 months later. >> no kidding. >> you all served in vietnam. >> yes. >> you were best friends in that

picture. but life goes on. people fall out of touch with each other and that's what happened for 50 years. >> 46 years, we all connected on the internet. okay? and we had a reunion, myself, tom, and bob up at tom hanks' house up in atlanta. dennis didn't make that one. we had another one the three of us a couple of years later but this time dennis came to this one because of the significance of 50 years. it struck a cord. >> i think i read in the local naples paper, you were not crazy about getting back together. >> yeah. >> didn't want to? >> i didn't want to. i felt we could call it a little survivor's guilt, you know? we're so blessed. the things we saw, the things we did, and the fact that we made it out alive we just got a gift of 50 years. but there's tens of thousands of men and women who didn't get any time. >> well, you guys came back from

vietnam 50 years ago. you did not get a hero's welcome. >> right. >> no. >> some people famously spit on returning vets so you didn't talk about your service. >> no. >> when i got off the plane after 11,000 mile plane fight, just aboutnonstop, two stops in between there, my mother and father were the only ones at the airport that met me. >> yeah. >> i think that the popularity and the reason this went viral is that america knows how bad we had it coming home. and they're liking us now. >> sure. what do you want to say to the vets of today? >> well -- god bless them. god bless them and protect them. they have too many restrictions. i would like to see the bureaucrats and politicians that come up with the rules of engagement to be the first ones to do it. >> sure. >> i'm serious. i'm worried about our kids today. >> you would give any of the guys returning and gals returning from combat today the welcome you deserve back there. >> huge heroes. >> absolutely. >> as you are as well.

she's the most effective against hillary. well, don't we want cruz to be the most effective against hillary? i think it's a smart move on his part. i'm not sure it makes that much difference in indiana. >> but it shows that the media is playing it fair. when he became the story, he swamped trump. >> yeah. >> trump has been the story because of the things he says, good, bad, controversial, interesting. his background. whatever it is. >> good point, brian. >> here is ted cruz saying the media -- they want to put this narrative -- no. you had a great tease at 11:00, it became the story at night. >> he's done what trump did in the past. he had a 40 minute speech before carly fiorina came on. in part introducing her and in part putting out his vision for america. i mean, i mean this is politics. you have to use the leverage that you have when you have it. and yesterday he did what i think he needed to do to try to

reorient this conversation politically after six losses in a row. it's not been a great run for him in the last few weeks. he had to change that narrative. >> so that's what's happening in the cruz camp. then you had trump. trump goes to indiana, he gets indiana's favorite man to campaign with him. coach bobby knight. take a listen to this and we'll get your reaction. >> because i think, you know, i'm not a republican, and i'm not a democrat. and i have always voted because i think that voting is a special thing that we have in this country that isn't in a lot of different countries. i have always voted, but i've always voted for the person that i thought was the best for the job. there's no question -- [ applause ] there's no question in my mind that the man sitting between the two of us is far and away the best person to lead america back where we all want to be led.

and this's the guy that can do it right here. let me say another thing about mr. trump and i think we're a little bit alike in that regard. if we're involved in something where we want to win, and particularly something that's necessary, if there's something out there where we need to win, we're going to try to beat your [ bleep ] every time you can. >> we were ready for some bleeps. >> and bobby knight told a story, knight called trump a number of months ago, look, i want to endorse you. you're my guy. if you need me, let me know. in the last week or two, trump said, i'm going to indiana, do you want to hitch a ride on my 747? >> trump has a way of reclaiming the spotlight or driving a media cycle as well. and when you think -- when you think of knight and what he represented to indiana, not this drive to victory, the drive to

win above all else, politically incorrect. he routinely -- brian, you remember this better than anyone. go back and watch the old clips of bobby knight taking on the media. one of my favorite things, you don't know anything about basketball, you have no idea what you're talking about. it was so refreshing because knight was knight, his players loved him. in the left wing media, all day yesterday, it was the bullies team up. trump and knight. the bullies. but for a lot of other people, it's not bullies. they're beloved. they're fighters. yeah, they're fighters and they fight against the bullies. either the inanti-of the press and they have a similar view of winning and people respect that and the namby-pamby gender

neutral world we live in, they both come across as alpha males and men and women find that refreshing out there. >> gha's the end -- what's the end game, winning. they don't seem to care. i'm going to add this to this. it looks as though -- i thought it was interesting that donald trump didn't come up with a nickname for carly and cruz and have -- and make it a big deal. he just said it doesn't -- he said it in an intellectual way, it doesn't seem like a good thing or the right thing. but he moved on. i thought that tactically was a good move being that the female vote, he was -- the detractors wanted to see if he'd go off on another woman situation. >> yeah. no, he can't do that. i was at the foreign policy speech yesterday which -- again, a lot of people on the left and a lot of the neoconservatives on the right are poo-pooing this speech. i think again trump has a better sense of where the average person is when it comes to our foreign policy priorities and any of the news media -- than

any of the news media will understand. they don't understand his rise, they were denigrating him and kicking him to the curb. what does he do? he goes out and says, we made mistakes on the right and the left, democrats and republicans and we need a policy that works for the american family, for the american people. we won't be stupid. he's clearly turning a page. away from bush, away from obama. to a new type of foreign policy. that was i think, you know, very consequential speech and all the right people in my mind are denigrating that today. again, they still don't get it. >> of course. all right, let's move from the campaign to culture. a young woman by the name of alexis bloomer, she pulled over her car. she was thinking about the things she had seen. she got her camera out and she taped this which is seen by 41 million people. >> as a millennial, i took it

upon myself to try to evaluate what's so wrong with our generation and why they're so mad at us. then i realized that we're just existing, we're not contributing anything to society. we don't respect our elders. we don't respect our country. we're lazy. we're really entitled. we want to make a lot of money and have free education but we're not willing to put in the work. we're more divided as a country than ever before and i think our generation has a lot to do with that. everything that was -- >> it all happened at a post office. i saw an elderly man walking in and limping and the two boys ran past him. it rubbed me the wrong way. i was taught to, if there was an elder open the door for them. you respect them and take the time to make them feel special. it should be expected, but i guess i -- i didn't expect it to go viral at all because i thought it was like i said it was expected from society. it shouldn't go viral, because it's something we're all taught

to do. it was a call to action more than a rant. we need to step up and be a better generation. >> isn't she just like a great example of what millennials, what we want our millennials to be like? >> you know, the cliches are all coming to my mind. but breath of fresh air, i mean, as someone -- i have a lot of great millennials working for me at lifezette. we howl because we sit around and we chat and we say, well, remember that kid who came in and the first question he asked was, you know, i have a snowboarding trip scheduled in a couple of weeks, so like is it cool for me to take that time off if i start like tomorrow? actually it's not cool. so we see this a lot. when you're on a bus, you know, a subway, how many times have you all seen an elderly person walk in and no one get up and give up his or her seat, an able-bodied young person? i see it a lot. >> you're right. i do think this is the same generation that gave us the incredible military. >> right. >> okay, brian, you take away

i was 16-month-olds old at the time. >> you were adopted by your aunt and uncle. >> i thought they were my real parents, but then at about 12 years old i found the newspaper in the cedar chest you're not supposed to be in. >> right. >> there was a little picture of me at 16 months, i put it back and i never told them i knew. so what it did was instilled in me a sense of having to prove myself. >> sure. >> which gave me a great lesson in life. it changed my perspective of life. i had to just -- it gave me great determination to get where i am. but as i said real quick last night if there's time, there was a saying that i heard, if you never set your eyes on your real father he has strange powers. i was thinking i had the strange powers because i kept achieving stuff. but then i realized i had another father up there that was looking out for me. i found out that god was really my father. >> your story was so inspiring to everyone in that audience last night. on the screen, you got to hear from the homeless men that are

living at st. christopher's inn. they told their story and they were crying and they said, because of this place i was able to put drugs aside and be a great father to my children. we heard your story, faith. you talked about loss in your life. you were raised by a single mom, you had three sisters, one killed in a car accident. let's hear your story from last night. >> to tell you a little bit about myself, i was raised by a single mother who raised three daughters by herself. times were tough. she had to work two and three jobs just to put food on the table. and during these times of struggle, my mom instilled in me and my sisters, hard work, perseverance, and to always believe, have faith and trust in god that he will make a way. and he did. >> that's a good recipe for life. >> then she lost her mom also at a very young age of 60.

>> so what's your advice to people that are going through something similar? >> for me, never give up. it doesn't matter -- my mom would say it doesn't matter what it looks like or sounds like or feels like, keep believing and trusting that god will make a way. it's not always easy, but it's -- >> like i said last night for every acting job i have gotten in the last 53 years i say, thank you, father. >> that's nice. >> indeed. you're still working. i know you're part of a new show over on stars now. >> yeah, into the second season of this show, i didn't know it was so phenomenal, to some young kids and adults. called "ash versus the evil dead." >> what is it about? >> i come in as ash's father. it's played by bruce campbell. and we shot it in new zealand. so we spent quite a long time in new zealand recently. >> well, fantastic. >> but it will be out in september. >> well, it's great to have you on the curvy couch. >> it is. >> so nice to meet you. >> i watch fox all day long. >> we love it. do you mind sticking around
