convention. >> now in the other primary from yesterday, kentucky, hillary clinton has a razor thin lead right now over bernie sanders. almost all the votes are counted but not quite. nonetheless, hillary clinton claimed victory and tweeted, quote, we just won kentucky. thanks to everyone that turned out. we're always stronger united. it was only one primary here in oregon on the republican side. donald trump won that with 66.8% of the vote. he then immediately turned his twitter attention to hillary clinton tweeting out do you think crooked hilary will finally close the deal? if she can't win kentucky she should drop out of race. system rigged. and it's worth noting a couple of weeks ago he we were all talking about the chaos that was coming at the republican convention. the possibility of a contested convention. now it seems that the

home a win in oregon. i'll start with you. >> well, i am going to congratulate secretary clinton on her win in kentucky along with the secretary of state who has said the unofficial win. both kentucky and oregon were structurally in favor of bernie sanders but the reality is, heather, that even if bernie sanders was to win the remaining contest by 30 points he still would be behind in pledge delegates and the popular vote. hillary clinton has almost 300 pledge delegates lead and a 3 million vote lead over bernie sanders. he can stay in the race. it's good for a turn out. it's good for the enthusiasm but there's no out the at this point that secretary clinton is going to be the first woman to be nominated in america for a presidential nomination from a major party. >> a positive outlook.

bernie sanders says he is in it to win it. all of his supporters would no doubt be incredibly disappointed if their candidate didn't come out on top because in their view he does keep winning all of these primaries. >> right. well, heather, bernie sanders has clearly had a message that has resinated in income inequality. raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour so he's had that. he's really packaged this message and touched the vote and young voters as we have seen and he became this protest candidate that's gotten really, really close. but yes the math is just not there but this race will go through june 14th. june 7th is going to be very interesting as we all know california is going to be there. it will be an opportunity. probably the opportunity where hillary clinton may very well clench this nomination because california has over 500 delegates there to play with.

>> we know that vice presidential picks are always important but it does seem like this could be a make or break depending on who they pick. what should they be looking for? >> i think donald trump and hillary clinton are going to have someone that helps with their weaknesses so for trump you're probably going to see someone that seems like a steady hand that can help in foreign policy and for hilary she is going to may double down on winning more hispanic votes. she has to worry and we're seeing bernie sanders still winning last night so she'll have to pass identify that wing of the party to get them excited about coming out in november. >> and ben carson coming out with a list and since then that's not accurate. give us a sense of your break down. who do you think trump is seriously looking at. >> i would look for someone like him. he's an army general. incredibly accomplished in iraq and afghanistan. he's not just any general. he's well-known in the washington and foreign policy community.
