differently to protect our flyers. go to facebook.com/thekelly files. thanks for watching. thanks. this is a fox news alert. at this hour authorities are searching for answers after an egyptair plane crashed into the sea. 66 people were on board. the plane was traveling from paris to cairo and russian and egyptian officials think terrorism may be to blame. joining us now is kitty logan. >> reporter: terrorism is one of possible scenarios but for authorities to establish what went wrong with this aircraft they need to find it. egypt has ordered search efforts to be intensifiied particularly in the waters south of the

greece coast where the plane may have crashed. there were early reports of finding wreckage but egyptair says none has been found so far. the aircraft was flying from paris towards cairo around 24 hours ago when it disappeared after the radar shortly after it crossed into egyptian airspace into greece. there were 66 passengers and crew on board. egyptair issued a statement tonight offering condolences to relatives of the missing saying sadly that they don't expect any survivors. so the wait goes on for anxious relatives whose loved ones never showed up at cairo's airport. this and other ins departments in egypt have heightened fears about flying in and out of the country. the u.s. navy has sent aircraft to support greece in search and rescue efforts but until the wreckage and crucially the black boxes are found what happened to this plane may remain a mystery.

>> all right. thank you. gabriel is at the big board with more on what happened right before the egyptair flight disappeared. with your background and experience i know you have a lot of insight here. >> you know authorities are still trying to locate egyptair flight earlier today egyptian officials did provide information on what happened before the plane disappeared. less than an hour before the scheduled arrival in egypt it was cruising at 38,000 feet. that's when authorities say it took a 90 degree left hand turn before moving 360 degrees, flipping to the right, and dropping more than 20,000 feet and vanishing from radar at around 10,000 feet. the military says it did not receive a distress call and according to the associated press an airport official indicated earlier that the pilot did not send one which could mean whatever caused the plane to plummet happened suddenly. >> let me ask you this based on your experience because we keep

looking and hearing it veered left and right and it went down 22,000 feet. this is viewed as the airbus as a work horse, it flies multiple flights a day, they never have any problems, it's on a superb maintenance program. i think terrorism first thing that comes to my mind. >> that's a great point. this is a region that is very dangerous right now. you have isis and affiliate in egypt so it's a hot bed of terrorism but let me present some other information. at this point there have been no indication we have found in debris on the surface. when this first happened people thought this disappeared that would indicate the airplane blew you up but then we had information that turned one way and then another and that looks like a spin towards the water. now it looks to me like this aircraft may have been in more

than one piece because of the fact we haven't seen a debris field and we've found no indications of that aircraft so far opens the door to terrorism and mechanical failure and a pilot that's suicidal but they'll be looking for that aircraft. i think they're more likely to find it in one piece. >> you told me in your experience you saw a large plane crash in pone piece and it went straight to the bottom. >> you're referring back to when i was flying for the navy. we lost a pilot. he was doing practice bombing runs at night doing dives towards the water. we knew exactly where his location was when he crashed. another pilot was watching but we never found the aircraft. it was in a nose down dive going fast and if the aircraft is in one piece you're not going to see debris floating like you would if the aircraft explodes

terrorist activity might have been in the works here you want to call it as soon as possible because you want to bring every resource to bear in the investigation. since they announced terrorism was on the docket as potential -- >> let's talk about this particular plane, the airbus. it's well known for its safety features is it not? it's one of the safist planes in the air. >> yeah. it has an admirable record. there's thousands of these flying. it's a work horse in the industry. comparable to a boeing 737. it's been involved in a lot of high profile accidents in the last few years but there's a lot of them out there. i think what we need to find out is why has there been no satellite infrared heat signature. it was reported this morning there was one but now the u.s. government officials have taken

that back. if you recall with the metrojet crash last year within three days they had confirmation that satellites overhead got a heat signature indicating there was a bomb on board. we haven't been able to get any confirmation on that. they say there's no indication of a heat signature where this airbus went down in the mediterranean. >> here's the problem. radical islamic terrorism seems to be at war with the rest of the world. so when somebody like myself thinks okay there's three air marshals on board that means they're armed and people charged the cockpit they probably would have been stopped so either something happened within the cockpit either one of the pilotipieltlots was a terrorist or there had to be a bomb on the plane. i'm thinking of the pockets h e

possibilities here. is it normal reaction to think terrorism. >> absolutely. if we are at war with the jihadist so there is an event we have to read it with that perspective though we will have to wait for the black box to be discovered then we'll have the full truth. now we are 24 hours only after the incident yet you see a consensus between the russians and egyptians and the french because they've ordered a security investigation and they see that investigation trending towards terrorism. if this is the case egypt is under attack by the jihadists all over. >> we've watched all of this unfold when you saw the general come into power and of course you had the head of the muslim brotherhood in power for a period of time. i did learn one thing today from a source of mine that at the

airport they discovered after the paris bombing there were 57 people that were on the terror watch list working at that airport, some as i understand it were removed but some still on the watch listed access to those airplanes. >> it defies explanation. there's no possible explanation. it's out rajous and there's not anything else to stay about it. when it comes to aviation security what we're really seeing is that we have to be mindful of the fact that the terrorists are actually innovating faster than governments are able to come up with new screening measures. that's a problem here. new kinds of underwear bombs and shoe bombs and ways to conceal them are being developed right now as we sit here and talk tonig tonight. >> paris is not known for the same type of security measures we use here in the united

states, and they still had access to airplanes. i want to talk about the plunge that this airplane took and in your experience because i know you have to go through a lot of training, you go through instances where a plane is in a free fall but it's not likely to ever happen even if all the engines went out that would no the be the normal pattern of an airplane decent would it? >> no, but actually this loss of control that you talk about which we've lost more and more jets to over the last few years very high profile accidents were all loss of control meaning the pilots the a good airplane and they initiated their own demise. there's many carriers that haven't started this training. when they looked at pilot records they found out they had not engaged in this loss of

a news alert so as authorities try to piece together what happened with egyptair a french spy chief is saying tonight that isis is preparing to strike again in france. fox news chief intelligence correspondent joins us with the latest. >> reporter: a transcript released earlier today shows that france's equivalent of the cia warned on may 10th that a string of terrorist attacks by isis is possible. his comments focussed on stadiums and did not specifically cite aviation. we know the islamic state is planning new attacks.

it's in a position where it would try to hit as quickly and as hard as possible. prosecutors are focussed on airport workers who had access to the flight before it left paris. that means investigators are exploring the same scenario that brought down a russian metrojet last october. speaking in washington today the homeland security chairman said the evidence is limited and preliminary but drew a possible connection. >> the indicators are likely they're dealing again with a terrorist type of attack, an insider threat where a bomb could have placed on that aircraft one using a timing device that would have started out of cairo or whether it was lag acknowledge put in the cargo hold. >> this morning the french parliament proved a restriction.

welcome back. it has been one day since donald trump released a list of possible supreme court nominees and many conservatives have given his picks positive reviews and donald trump indicated that his list may be growing. he tweeted out my list of potential u.s. supreme court justices was very well received. during the next couple of weeks i may be adding to the list.

joining me now is the john malcolm. jay, i've talk to a lot of people that know the people on this list. not one person has anything but high praise for this list. >> this is a great list of potential nominees to the supreme court. you have justices that have served with justice scalia law clerk. they come with broad and serious credentia credentials. they have published opinions. they've served on the court for a number of years. they understand the role of a justice of the supreme court is not to make law. i think no matter what anybody thinks the fact of the matter is the lasting legacy of a president is the supreme court of the united states. we know we have a vacancy. there's a lot the stake.

these nominees are great across the board. not one in there you would not be happy to have. >> you say that as somebody that has argued a number of times before the supreme court and my understanding . >> he ran the list of names by senators and other people. this is a pretty expensive vetting process. are you happy with it? yes. i think the research shows he has the right people and has right advice. i look he includes people that are often overlooked giving us a view of what they'd be like. they've been in a state supreme court. now you have a better sense of how they might perform in a u.s. supreme court. you want to make sure you get it right with a solid philosophy with courage to stand up under pressure. >> i would say this. if i can, john, republicans often get it wrong. republican presidents.

in other words we're told that a justice is going to be an originalist. he disappointed a lot of people, including myself, especially in the oeb rauma care ruling. are you confident this list is no disappointment? >> you could have added john paul stevens to that list. >> true. >> look. five of the names on the list were also on my list, which the heritage foundation published. the remaining six judges all are very qualified men and women have a proper view of the modest roles a judge plays and going to interpret the constitution based on the words and not using the empty vessels supporting their personal or political biases. these are qualified people. and just pointed out six are sitting circuit court judges. five of them are sitting state

supreme court justices. one of the ones on the circuit court spent time on the wisconsin supreme court as well. these are men, women, very well qualified with a broad bredth of experience. >> do you see problems for any of the 11 going up against democrats? knowing they play politics, clarence thomas, comes owe find, with judicial picks? >> the fact of the matter is that look. i think you've got to keep control of the united states senate. that is going to be very important here. i think any one of these nominees you're seeing the left criticizing these individuals. why? because they know that they have a judicial philosophy like scalia. that is what they don't want. we have to be prepared if donald trump is the president of the united states to defend these nominees aggressively. that means you've got to maintain control of the senate. it would be good to get 60

conservatives and make sure you don't have a problem. everyone of these will be a fight worth taking. >> you can follow harry reid and circumvent precedents, just change them. i think this is important. do you see problems? >> you know, i don't. i see the real strong contrast with what the president put forward in judge garhand. he's got folks that stood up for the second amendment. his judge tends to defer to other agencies every chance he gets. we've got people like judge keplich. we see the judge and people here who show what it is like to stand up for the constitution. >> john, we'll give you the last
