12:00 pm
hillary clinton to put together a list also. okay? let her put together a list because i'd like to see what that list consists of, and you will see it's day and night, okay? day and night. and it will not be good for the people in this room and it won't be good, by the way, for the people of ourémñ?ñ?ñ?ñ?ñ countrt importantly. so, americans use guns to defend themselves against violent crime, more than a million times a year. okay? more than a million times a year. and they want to take them away. heartless, hypocrites like the clintons-want to take this and get rid of guns and yet they have body guards with guns. i think in addition to calling for them to name judges, we'll also call them and let their bodyguards immediately disarm. okay?
12:01 pm
now, they should immediately disarm. and let's see how good they do. let see how they feel walking around without their guns on their bodyguards and nobody else can have gun us. president obama tried to take the guns from law-biding america but reduced prosecutions of violent criminals who use guns. president obama is even releasing violent criminals from the jails, including drug dealers and those with gun crimes. and they're being let go by the thousands. by the thousands. many of these are also, i'm sure we're government going to be surprised to hear this -- illegal immigrants. president obama pushed for changes to sentencing laws that released thousands of dangerous drug trafficking felons and gang members who prey on civilians. i learned a lot about the border. two weekings others you saw
12:02 pm
16,500 border patrol agents endorse donald trump.bñrr and we have gotten great endorsements. to have the endorsement from nra today and the endorsement from the border patrol agents, and i was talking to them. these are incredible people that want to do their jobs. they're endorsing me. they could -- they're told to stand back, don't do it. they want to do their jobs. these are incredible people. the first time they've every endorsed a presidential candidate, and 16,500. so i'm really honored by that. this is hillary clinton's agenda, too, to release the violent criminals from jail. she wants them all released. released that you wouldn't want to walk on the street with you, wouldn't want to look at, and whether it's kate in san francisco, you see what happened there or jamil, shot in the face three times.
12:03 pm
by somebody that wasn't supposed to be here. or -- i always say this because this was tragic -- a 65-year-old veteran, a woman who was a great woman, raped, sodomized and killed by an illegal immigrant, wasn't supposed to be here. we're going straighten it out, and biffle the way this doesn't have to do with guns per se but maybe it has to do with other things. we're going to build the wall, going to be other great wall. we're going to have borders again. people are going to come into the country, but they're comping into the country legally -- coming into the country legally, folks. we're going to keep our borders open, and i tell you, they're going to be open when people come in legally. hillary wants to just keep them open. anybody can come across, and that's been happening and the crime is violent, and a lot. and lots of other things are happening with the drugs pouring across. so, she is putting the most vulnerable americans in jeopardy, and this is a risk
12:04 pm
that we can no longer afford. we have had enough. think we have had enough. wouldn't you say we have had, like -- in trying to overturn the second amendment hillary clinton is telling everyone, and every woman, living in a dangerous community, that she doesn't have the right to defend herself. so you have a woman living in a community, rough community, a bad community, sorry, you can't defend yourself. that is so unfair and that is so egregious, and i'll tell you what, my poll numbers with women are starting to go up. i never thought of it. this should really lift. the up, right? starting to go up. i will say, my poll numbers with men are through the roof. but i like women more than men. come on, women. let's go. come on. and most people know that about me. most people know that. this is the most basic humanzmñ?
12:05 pm
right of all, but hillary wants to strip it away and strip it away from women, and all others. hillary clinton will release violent criminals from jail, more so than even obama. she has a morebeñ?ñ?ñ?ñ?ñ open n obama if that's possible. and put innocent americans at risk. i'm going to put criminals behind bars and guarantee that law-abiding americans have the right to self-defense. 100%. thank you. thank you. there are 13 million right to carry permitholders in the united states. i happen to be one of them. in the past -- nobody knows that.zxñ?ñ?ñ?ñ?ñ boy, would i surprise somebody if they hit trump. if i wasn't surrounded by, like,
12:06 pm
the largest group of secret service people, who by the way are fantastic people and our police are fantastic, fantastic, people. we have to give a standing ovation to our police. we have to. they are fantastic people. [applause] amazing. they do such a great job, they are so up fairly treated -- unfairly treat, but they know, and they know how the people feel about them. thank you, that's great. in the past 30 years, the number of right to carry states has gone up sevenfold. these are among the most law-abiding folks, statistically in the entire country. so they have the right to carry. they're among the most -- you know, they do statistics on everything, right?
12:07 pm
everything. and these are among the most -- in fact, they're like at the top of the list in florida, for example, they have issued more than three million conceal carry permits in the past 30 years. only 168 have been revoked. that's .006%. so very, very few, and just no difficulty. hillary wants to go into the opposite direction. she said that president obama didn't go far enough when he executed this order, when he signed this order and he is not going far enough. he has gone so far, gone too far. we're going to stop it. and we will unsign lots of different things, including some of those terrible executive orders. believe me. they're going to be unsigned so fast they'll be up signed the first hour that i'm in office. in the first hour that i'm in office.
12:08 pm
[cheering] hillary's pledge to issue new antigun executive orders. you know that. this is the behavior -- i mean you could say of a dictator. this is the behavior of somebody, frankly, i think, that doesn't know what she is doing. she is not equipped to be president in so many different ways, but this is the thinking of a person that is not equipped to be the president of the united states. believe me. she doesn't understand it. bad judgment. we talk about it. she has bad judgment. you know where it came from. came from me. also came from her current opponent, who is doing pretty well. i tell you, you talk bat rigged system. he wins every week and keeps losing. i think bernie should run as an independent. okay? let him run.
12:09 pm
i do. i would love him to run as an independent. then it would be the three of us on stage. i love that. the second amendment is on the ballot in november. the only way to save our second amendment is to vote for a person that you all know named donald trump. okay? i will tell you. i will never let you down. i will protect our second amendment. will protect our country. our military will be strong. our borders will be enforced. we'll get rid of common core, which is a disaster. we'll bring education local. so important. our education is a mess. we're going to get rid of obamacare. we'll have a great, great plan, as a substitute. obamacare is out of control. the new costs, as you know, they're going to be revealed on
12:10 pm
november 1st. they're going to be through the roof, and don't let this happen. we'll have to speak to mitch. obama is trying to get it delayed until after the election. the new costs of will be revealed november 1st, unless he gets a change. they will be so astronomical and show what a total failure and disaster obamacare is. we'll repeal and it replace it with something great. okay? believe me. we're going to have strong borders and we're going to make the greatest trade deals. every country worldwide, every country in the world, is ripping off our great country, like we're children. like taking candy from a baby. our trade deals will be renegotiated. we won't be having trade deficits of $500 billion a year with china they've won't be taking our jobs out of here, and kentucky and lots of other
12:11 pm
places, every. they won't be taking our jobs and bringing them into mexico, like with nabisco where they leave chicago and move to mexico, and so many other countries -- companies, carrier air conditioning. just left indiana. they're leaving indiana, they're moving to mexico. that's not happening with me. because when they make their air conditioners and they sell them across our now very strong border, believe me, they're going to pay a tax and they're going to say we're not moving to mexico anymore. it's so simple. it's so simple. so we're going to have great trade agreements. we're going to become a strong nation again. we're going to save our social security. we're going to save our medicare. we're going to be so proud of this country. you're going to be proud of your president. but i don't care about that. you're going to be proud of your country again, and we're going to start winning again, because we don't win anymore.
12:12 pm
we never win. we don't win on trade, we don't win with the military. we can't beat isis. believe me, we're going to knock the hell out of isis. we have no choice. we're going to knock the hell out of isis. [cheering] so, we are going to start winning again, and i have fun saying it, and i say it a lot, but there's nothing better, and some of you have heard it but we're going to win, win, win. we're going to win with military. we're going to win at the borders. we're going to win with trade. we're going to win at everything, and some of you are friends, and you're going to call and say, mr. president, please, we can't take it anymore. you're driving us crazy. you're winning too mump please,
12:13 pm
mr. president, not so much. and i'm going to say, i'm sorryñ we're goo keep winning because we are going to make america great again. thank you. we love you. thank you. thank you-everybody. thank you, kentucky. thank you, everybody. thank you. [cheers and applause] >> we're watching right now donald trump, the presumptive nominee of the republican party, speak to, we're told, some 8,000 people inside the expo center in louisville, kentucky. the nra has promise evidence its full endorsement to donald trump today. via the people who took the stage as officials, and he was supposed to talk about the gun debate and he did. and we figured he would move on to his presumptive opponent on the tell crack side, hillary clinton, and he did. we thought he might touch on a few other things and he did. we did not know the list would be this long help informed the crowd he was reading from a prompt atm;> rder but he strayek
12:14 pm
about the fact he wanted hillary clinton to hand in her list who she would like to see on the supreme court. hew?ñ?ñ?ñ?ñ says his is out ans to see hers and from that point on he began to speak more extemporaneously, tucked his speech into his pocket and continued to speak. i'm harris faulkner, filling in for "shepard smith reporting." want it to go straight to john roberts at the nra convention in louisville. john, usually the nra does not endorse a candidate this early. why now for trump? >> reporter: that is true. in fact if you look back at 2012, 2008, and 2004, the nra did not inners to the president until october. george bush. wasn't endorsed until october 2000, they didn't endorse him at all but that was more of a strategic decision. didn't want to give gore campaign to something to talk about. and they did not endorse bob dole or george h.w. bush in 1982
12:15 pm
but endorsed him in 1988. so why so early this time? it just shows how much they think is riding on this election. they do believe that hillary clinton is going to try to implement new gun legislation, more gun controls, but more importantly than that, because the president can propose, and congress can write, but very often that anything that runs afoul with the stuffings will be overturned by the supreme court. they're very concerned in this room and across the nation, nra member that hillary clinton will appoint supreme court justices that will uphold her attempt to turn back the provisions of the second amendment. donald trump upon receiving the endorse0. the nra says he'll do his best to uphold the second amendment. here trump. >> hillary clinton wants to abolish the second amendment. just remember that. we're not talk about changing. she wants to abolish the second amendment. so, we're not going to let that
12:16 pm
happen, i texas tell you that. we're going to preserve and it cherish it and take care of it. >> reporter: now, it is an interesting change because in 2000, donald trump was a supporter of the assault weapons ban. he also was a supporter of longer waiting times for firearm purchases and in 2012, after the horrible shooting in newtown, connecticut, donald trump tweeted out after president obama spoke that the president speaks for everyone, including me, with his remarks about the newtown shooting. so, clearly there has been a meeting of the minds here, even though many people we talked to still are looking with a little skepticism at donald trump. what he said in the past is different than what he said now. how will he be in the fired. >> i want you to give us a little color what's going on in the room. if people weren't certain who was in the audience or about the sign behind donald trump, this went far afield from nra and gun debate topics. this went on to, as you just
12:17 pm
alluded to, the supreme court nomination and who the names might be for republicans and democrats and that was tied to nra, but then on to building a wall. he came up, i thought i heard at one point donald trump called hillary clinton a new nickname. heartless hillary and then said i may go back too crooked hillary, and then talked about his poll numbers and kempt on and on from there talk to me about the response to him in that room on these other topics. >> reporter: clearly this was not just an address to the national rifle association. this was a presidential stump speech. every time i talk to people who donald trump meets, they always say, he talked to us at length about the states he won and what the poll numbers and were and the margins. this is what he does. he'll talk about the issues at hand but then he always goes back to, i'm winning big and hearings house u how i won here. but the crowd did eat it up, and i was talking with an official from the nra who told me in 2008
12:18 pm
and 20123 just wasn't a lot of enthusiasm for either mccain or mitt romney but there is genuine enthusiasm for donald trump in this room, and among the thousands of people who are in the exhibition hall just on the other side of this arena. i wandered through the ex-biggs hall this morning, talk to very interesting folks and asked them if they were prepared to vote for donald trump, particularly given what he said about gun rights in the past. here's what the told us. >> i'm hoping he'll evolve. >> i think he's going to take care of us. think we're in good hands with him. >> he'll come around. he knows what we need to do to protect ourselves and our country. so i can't imagine him voting -- we'll come after him if he doesn't. >> reporter: i love listening to linda there, saying we'll come after him. people are serious about their belief in the second amendment and they're right to bear arms and if he ran afoul of their
12:19 pm
beliefs he will hear about. at the moment seems to be a big kumbiya moment here in louisville. donald trump getting people of their feet, cheering for him, massive standing ovation at the end of his speech, and a real indication that people who looked at donald trump's candidacy -- people on the republican side, who said he'll never be able to make it as a candidate, and then he'll never be able to win the john election. we're -- the general election. we're seeing a massive shift in public opinion. donald trump is becoming more popular among the constituencies that people never thought he could win over. if he can win over the nra this early, given. what he said in the patz, i think you can throw your expect -- expectations out the quinn -- window. >> he said that my poll numbers with men are through the roof but i love women more than men. come on. and then people started to cheer. the one most rousing moment of cheering i saw -- and even some
12:20 pm
emotional moments -- when he asked for a standing ovation for the men and women in blue. i'm going to stop there with you. just to get your thoughts on how people reacted to that. more universal nonpartisan concept of recognizing those in the audience. >> reporter: donald trump really does have the support of law enforcement, the support of military, and it's an issue that -- i mean, obviously george bush was big friends with the military and law enforcement, but donald trump has a special connection to the military law enforcement. and at every opportunity he stands up and recognizes them and gets a standing ovation and so much appreciation in return. you mentioned women. in a moment i thought was very interesting in the speech is when he took the gun control debate and tried to turn it against hillary clinton on women. saying that hillary clinton wants to take away a woman's right to protect herself. that new.

12:25 pm
which is where secret service told everybody to go, crew members are told to stay down there then james rosen, who is going live from the briefing room. obviously not ready for that yet because that's on lockup but able to text us, and he says, want to clarify, the crews were told by secret service to go downstairs. some did not abide by that. so there are people still in the briefing room. now, here's what we know about the situation. there has been a shooting nearby. see if i can pick up that address. west executive drive. that's according to the public information officer for the united states park police there. and that pio is in route to 17th and pennsylvania to set up a command post so they can talk to reportes. don't know exactly how long this has been going on. james rosen, if we can get him to come up, if the phones are working, james, are you with us? report report yes --
12:26 pm
>> reporter: yes, i am. from what is suddenly a very tense briefing room in the white house. we have become accustomed to situations where the white house is placed on lockdown, where the north lawn is cleared, where pennsylvania avenue is cleared, where lafayette park is cleared, and even where we have been locked inside the press briefing room area, the doors are locked at this very present moment. what makes this situation unique in our experience was, number one, this push to evacuate even the press briefing room and maybe everybody go jounce stairs to the basement -- downstairs. the press did not oblige and that's why i'm able to come to you live from the briefing room right now. the other aspect of this that strikes me as unique is this report of activity on west executive drive. that's the marry near row street that separates the who is complex from the executive office building. the only people who tend to step
12:27 pm
foot on west executive drive are aides to the president, executive branch employees, secret service, and occasionally visitors to the white house, with some sort of clearance. so, if there's anything that is happening on west executive drive, that would be very unusual indeed. >> i know people are going to ask, and you say that those of you in the briefing room -- i'm not sure if this includes you or not -- decided not to listen to the secret service. what are you told about your safety now that you're locked inside the briefing room? >> reporter: well, nothing at the moment. but there's some -- somebody just made an appearance here. but i was already downstairs in our booth when i heard about this request and heard.the fact that people weren't obliging it. they have now unlocked the doors to the briefing room here in the white house, and members of the news media are once again emerging, and are out on the north lawn now, so we expect to have more information, perhaps things are quieting down. >> that's a good thing.
12:28 pm
you were giving us some good detail on the west executive drive and what it entails to be along that. i know the roadway you're talking about. i think we have it here on our screen. and you need some clearance in order to traverse along that via way to and from the white house. so talk to me about who has access to that. >> reporter: the only people you see on west executive drive, that's anywhere row closed-off, gated street that separates the white house from the executive office building, are aides to the president, executive branch employees, secret service, law enforcement, and occasionally visitorsors to the white house. if we stand our cameras up, very high on ladders, we can sometimes shoot footage of people coming to visit the president on west executive drive. i think famously, kenneth starr, perhaps, or his prosecutors back during the lieu win city era -- lewinski era, footage was shot
12:29 pm
when the went to the white house to take the examination of president clinton. occasionally we get glitches of activity but seldom does it involve weapons drawn. >> just to revisit for people who are tuning in, the white house north lawn -- i'll use the word cleared here but not in the sense that this event is over. just means that the lawn was evacuated. from anybody who would have been on the white house north lawn. and then we were told that the white house is in lockdown, and james rosen is joining us from inside the briefing room because some members of the press did not leave or chose to come back to the room while the evacancy situation in other parts of the white house were going on to get people down to a basement area. james i want to come back to you and see if you have heard anything about the lockdown, still not seeing anybody outside. so, i'm still seeing the police presence out there. we were told that secret service is ready with weapons. what are you hearing? >> reporter: we there'd that as well.
12:30 pm
weapons drawn, with a state of urgency here that law enforcement, secret service agents, secret service officers were exhorting everybody on pennsylvania avenue to department they were also clearing the lafayette part, across the street from 1600 pennsylvania avenue in situations like this, we should caution you it is not the white house from which we get information. it is the u.s. secret service. and we have contacted u.s. secret service and were told that all public information officers for the secret service were in a meeting, being briefed on whatever the situation is and they would just take our information and get back to us. so we're awaiting confirmation of this. what we're seeing from secret service. >> all right. a shooting. on west executive drive is what we're developed prompted the situation at the white house. it's not all too far away. james rosen giving us some excellent detail on the access of that road, and its role there in bringing people with clearances into the white house and from the white house.

james, i'm just learning one person is in custody and that we're told there may be a casualty. i know we're pressing for clarification if that means somebody was wounded, shot, injured, killed, what, but they said they would just leave it a casualty at this point. i hear more people in the background with you. what's the latest? >> reporter: that's my nbc colleague in the background. here's the latest. the place remains on lockdown, the white house has easted off on its -- east -- ease off on the demand that everybody evacuate the press briefing room, which is i why we can speck to you. there was a brief moment when a bunch of us from news media rushed back outside. seemed the lockdown on the doors of the press briefing room had been eased up, but all of the people who ran out just now that i saw run out were hushed back inside this room, and so no one is on the north lawn right now. with respect to the reporting you just referenced from our

12:45 pm
guns were drawn. they said this is not a drill. one a little told me it will be a while before they open anything. 17th street on the west side of the white house, completely shut down and there are dozens of police cars out with crime scene tape. u.s. park police, helicopters overhead. not exactly a common sight in terms of being over the white house. it appears whatever incident happened is some way calmed down a little bit in the sense you don't see running and screaming or cars flying around but it is very clear that this is way different than any other kind of situation you would experience at the white house in terms of a lockdown or a suspicious package or anything like this. >> and you know, part of that from what i'm reading has to do with the fact there's been actual violence. a lot of times with a suspicious package, unless they blow it up, nothing has happened. with this there was an actual shooting and we know one person was transported to the hospital and one person is in custody.
12:46 pm
and we don't know if in fact that would even be the same person because we're only hearing the number one. so, it could be they took the person who was injured into custody. we do know there was a casualty. that could be an injury or a death. that could be that same person who was injured. and taken to the hospital. we're not sure of that detail yet but there was an actual violent point in all of this, shooting along the west executive drive. legalland, you're a good one to talk with outside the white house. can you give us a description of west executive drive. you need a clearance to go from the white house to the executive offices. tell me about the narrow strip,. >> reporter: you have the old executive office building and the white house. typically that area is open in front of lafayette park. the plaza, old pennsylvania avenue, inflame it was closed off. this area is on the south side of the white house, before the ellipse, before the national mall, and that area is held down only for pass holders, people vetted by the secret service.
12:47 pm
those kinds of folks can walk through. the area we're seeing all the police activity, at least what we can see from our vantage point, appears to be on the west side of new york avenue and 17th. that would be right at the area where you would go how to the first security check, where the secret service would be looking for that first pass or where you'd go and present your credentials and say if have an appointment. we have seen some evidence teams there and seen more police arriving on scene, possibly to collect more evidence. the area we're in right enough is a heavy tourist area that is most typically walked up and down on and the tourists have now been pushed outside of this area that's now become a much larger secure perimeter than anything we normally experience at the white house. >> so you're talking about what it would norm normally look like when something is going on and you're telling us how different the situation seems. sounds very quiet where you are. i know you're a little ways away
12:48 pm
from the west executive drive, as you would have to be, because it's been cleared of anybody. it's been evacuated of anybody who would be standing on in the north lawn. i'm curious. people will talk near you. i see police officers on motorcycles going by. we have motion that we didn't have a few moments ago. talk to me about the urgency around the white house. >> reporter: to understand the area of the north lawn where we typically stand for our live shot is pretty far away from where this incident happened, or appears to have happened, on the southern side of the white house colex. new york avenue and 17th 17th street. that's where you appear to have the large contingent of police activity that has now come out. you're right there is an ey calmness around where it appears the incident happened. in the since it has been completely shut down and cordoned off by the secret
12:49 pm
service and what is so different from any other i've seen at the white house is the intensity level of the secret service agents. they have their machine guns out, fingers off the trigger bit certainly in a much different posture than if you had somebody with a suspicious package. clearing lafayette park is not an uncommon occurrence. the idea there were shotsed fired is extraordinary in terms of an incident occurring, and you can see the intensity level of the secret service agents, and even though the incident may be over and things appear secure, they're clearly in a very different state than they were before. >> well, because of the clearance situation that you just talked about and how this would have happened in an area that was right at that first checkpoint, that screes secret service would be looking at people on the narrow, i'll describe is at a more private drive, because of the nature of
12:50 pm
that this is a different investigation potentially and may speak to the issue of how this scene looked. it is cleared of everybody and that is a place, this close to a saturday, friday afternoon, where people would be gathered. we have seen it many times. a lot of people coming with, called looky loos. i was one as a kid and we'll come to see the white house, and there's nobody in this picture. let's go to the brand new video from outside and inside the briefing room. start outside and get a look at that. i had told you earlier that we were getting reports, james rosen from inside the briefing room, was saying that these secret service and park police had their guns drawn. you saw that video. now inside the briefing room. at first, they were able to at least they thought maybe get out. no, they were developed they needed to bet back in the briefing room and if you're not in that room you're in the base. of the white house or some place
12:51 pm
safe. you get your information now from the secret service. they have taken over the scene. they're working in concert with both the d.c. police, the u.s. park police, and anybody else they may have called, in the capitol response team with the fbi on the scene, and now inside the briefing room where james rosen went live. are you back up, james? okay, as soon as james can talk with us again we'll get him back on the air and ask him what he is being told. there was a shooting so close the the white house it put is in a situation where the white house is on lockdown. the secret service has told people to stay put and cleared the lawn areas, and then the park police giving us some detail on what they're investigating at this point. that shooting, one person taken to a hospital, one person in custody, not clear if that perhaps the same person and that could be with maybe police

officers outside the hospital room. president obama is golfing at joint andrews base right now. he is not currently in the white house. the president is not in the white house. we don't have much more detail in terms of that. but let's go to peter doocy with more on this. he is near the white house. what can you tell me about the staffing numbers or whatever would be inside that white house right now? >> reporter: well, i can tell you've right now about what the outside -- we're on the 15th 15th avenue side of the white house, where there is one of the main entrances for staff, and we were just -- we just arrived there, and from our position, we saw a motorcade leaving the pennsylvania avenue side coming down toward us, and the secret service agents ran into the street, yelling, v.i.p., v.i.p., they closed traffic, and then that motorcade left. very quickly. every agent we have seen has a
12:53 pm
big gun today, which is not something you always see. and there's not a high provial event going on. and right now we are making our way down toward the washington monument because we can see the park police helicopter hovering overhead and we think this might be where some of the action was a little while ago. >> this i'm learning, too, the area just west of the white house, people are now saying they saw police and ambulances there at the scene, and so now i'm curious to know because we do know of a so-called casualty. one person was taken to the hospital. we don't know if that's the same -- in fact one individual. now the reports of police and ambulances. what are you seeing, hearing? are you still with us? >> reporter: yes, sorry. was talking to a park police officer since they're doing
12:54 pm
crowd control. he did not have anything for us. as we make our way, lots of sirens. does seem like given how rapidly this has unfolded, some of the law enforcement is having a tough time keeping all of the tourists up out of the streets. they're trying to keep the street clear. and it looks like they're having a hard time, and i can tell you, harris, that i'm looking at a horse that seems spooked by the loud sirens. there is a rush now of police toward the crime scene. we're almost there. >> all right. want to get this breaking news point in and may speak to the iron why they're trying to hold people back. this is just a time of year, a beautiful day in our nation's capitol, a lot of tourists, especially moving into this weekend, the weekend before memorial day. a lot of kids off next week. a lot of people in washington, dc, and many of us as children
12:55 pm
who would have traveled there at this time. so a lot of tourist there cbs news is reporting this so we would have to confirm this on our own but there is another media outlet reporting a secret service officer has been shot in the stomach after a suspect pulled a gun. again, fox news is not confirming this. we're reporting it. they're citing the secret service in this. please tell me that the james rosen is ready because i know that this -- with this piece of information, he is in the room with a lot of other journalists and sometimes i know you'll talk amongst yourselves about these things, james. what sourcing have you been able to do? >> reporter: harris good, afternoon again from the press briefing room here where we remain on lockup, the white house has for the moment eased up on trying to push us down to the base. but we remain trapped essentially here in the building with the doors locked. we have multiple reports from our own personnel and from our
12:56 pm
competitors and so forth, about at least one person having been shot and apparently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. we have conflicting reports whether that individual was someone who approached the white house with a gun, refused to drop it, or whether in fact it is a secret service officer who was shot. but our early reporting from our senior congressional reporter thus far appears to be holding up which was to the effect that one person was shot in this incident, and that there was what we call a fay tall fatility -- excuse me -- a casualty. >> so cbs news is reporting secret service officer has shot a suspect in the stomach after the suspect pulled a gun. so i want to get on the record and get that clarified and corrected. this is according to their reporting, cbs news reporting secret service officer has shot a suspect in the stomach after
12:57 pm
suspect pulled a gun. they are citing the secret service. we are working to determine that. so i did not get it correct before with that secret service officer. i want to get on the record and get that right now in either case, this is a very serious situation in part because of where this has happened. this is very close, james, to the white house, along west executive drive, an area that leland and i were talking about york need toto different gates and checkpoints to be cleared to use that executive drive to access the white house and/or the executive building. the other point i want to make in this, just in terms of where we have been in the history recently, with incidents at the white house, and the secret service and people gaining access and jumping fences. this is extremely alarming, given the fact that you have had so much activity like that. >> reporter: of course, the secret service has come in for its lumps bat number of security incidents from that couple that sort of status, seeking couple
12:58 pm
that manage told get inside a state dinner without permission, to individuals who have jumped the fence and run, even made their way into the white house and individuals able to jump the fence even after it was fortified with extra sentencing. wore obliged to point out that president obama was never in jeopardy has he has been golfing, enjoying this rare lull in the rain here in the capital city help has been golfing at joint base andrews, 25-minute drive, for his motorcade, from the white house. so no danger to the president in this incident and not a lot of information from the secret service. we were told when we won tacted the secret service all of their public officers were being briefed on the situation, and so could not disclose any information to us. >> james rosenning still inside in the briefing room. they're sequestered there. thank you for your reporting from inside the briefing room. one of the members of the media inside. they have been told they must stay there there are other

crews, staff, news crew, people throughout the white house who are in the basement downstairs area of the white house, waiting for the all-clear signal, but we're being told now, per our leland vittert who was outside, and per petey doesy, this scene is playing outside the building where there's been a shooting not far from the white house and their investigation, which nows clues the fbi's capital response team on site to help the local authorities, could take a while. we could see this lockdown go on for at least the next few minutes. i can tell you've that away from the white house on the parks across the street and down the street, police have begun to clear those areas as well. and then a cbs news report, which we at fox news are working to confirm, a secret service officer has shot a suspect in the stomach after that suspect pulled a gun. we do not know the extent of the injuries. we can tell you from other reporting through the park police that someone was taken to the hospital, and very early on we were told there was a
1:00 pm
casualty. that could be an injury or death. we do not know which. we'll stay on the story at fox news channel. i'm harris faulkner in today for shepard smith. nor -- more next. >> otherwise, just a beautiful day in the national capital and then about two hours ago a man brandishing a gun, approaching a secret service agent, looked volatile, he was shot by the secret service agent and from there ensued what appeared to be a momentary state of chaos, so much so that the better part of valor was to shut the white house down, lockdown the president of the united states not there at the time. we don't know where the first family was or is. we know that james rosen is in the briefing room with the very latest. the lockdown still in effect, james? >> reporter: well, enough i do see some of my colleagues escaping the press briefing room and making their way
