go down. but now there may be a new clue. smoke alarms were reportedly detected going off on board moments before the crash and terrorism is still not being ruled out. trump was the first to call it that. >> what just happened about 12 hours ago? a plane got blown out of the sky. and if anybody thinks it wasn't blown out of the sky, you're 100% wrong, folks. >> chris, it does appear it was an act of terrorism. exactly how, of course the investigation will have to determine. but it once again shines a very bright light on the threats that we face from organized terror groups. isis of course, but then there are other networks of terrorists that have to be hunted down and defeated. >> hillary then went on to blame trump for creating terrorists with his proposed muslim ban. >> when you say we're going to bar all muslims, you are sending a message to the muslim world and you're also sending a

message to the terrorists. we do have evidence, we have seen how donald trump is being used to essentially be a recruiter for more people to join the cause of terrorism. >> trump responded in a statement saying hillary's comments just prove she is not qualified to be president. as we reported, a new fox news poll shows registered voters trust trump over clinton to do a better job fighting terror by 52 to 40%. and today, after getting the endorsement of the national rifle association, trump delivered a rousing tough on terror speech saying if the good guys had guns during the san bernardino attack, they might have been able to fight back against the terrorists. >> they walked in. no guns on the other side. they had the guns. and they killed 14 people, many wounded, many in the hospital to this day. but they wounded many. but they killed 14 of their co-workers. and the co-workers thought they were friends. so there's something going on.

i tell you again, same story. if we had guns on the other side, it wouldn't have been that way. i would have -- boom. if we had guns -- [ laughter ] -- on the other side, it wouldn't have been that way. >> joining us is a dc strategist and a former state department official with the obama administration. adam, you saw trump's very, very rousing speech and that line, i would have gone boom, he got a big round of applause for that one. >> i'll tell you, you're seeing in this squareoff what this election is all about. it's not a cerebral election. it's visceral. we want not scripted replies but spontaneous reactions. i loved donald trump's words -- our hearts go out to the families in this tragedy, but he tweeted out, when are we going to be strong, smart, and vigilant? when all is said and done,

you're about to see a new theme emerge in this campaign. you may not always like what donald trump says, but you're going to love what he's going to do for america. and i think he's going to bring it. the crowd at the nra feels it. it's commanding the stage, controlling the conversation. everybody's ears are open to a new kind of leadership on display with donald trump. >> david, hillary clinton has said she's like barack obama, she basically wants to run as a third term of barack obama on many issues. so if she does that, then you have the juxtaposition of barack obama's being weak on terror, he can't even say islamic terrorism, and donald trump saying, isis, we're coming after you, it's got to stop, that really does define the difference between the two candidates, hillary and donald. >> look, hillary clinton has four years of experience as secretary of state. donald trump is woefully unprepared to be commander in chief. i say that not just because he

hasn't studied foreign policy issues, and he hasn't put people around him who know foreign policy issues. all of those things are true. but yesterday is a prime example, he said that this tragedy, the egyptair tragedy, was terrorism. but there are no facts yet to suggest that. if you can't identify terrorism, you can't effectively combat it. >> we showed the poll, 52% to 40% believed donald trump would be tougher on terror. he is perceived to be tough on islamic terrorism. >> he called it terrorism before anyone has any facts that suggest it is. >> david, on the left you talk about hillary's experience. yes, she's far more experienced than donald trump. i would argue that experience doesn't equal qualifications. just because she has experience doesn't mean she is qualified to lead the fight against terror

that hasn't been fought for years. >> you can criticize hillary clinton in 2008 for not being experienced. but after four years of secretary of state, meeting with hundreds of foreign leaders, conducting many trips abroad, and overseeing our foreign policy during a time of mostly peace and prosperity and effective foreign policy and reaching out to countries that used to be enemies and making them friends, she has a strong record on foreign policy and a strong command of the issues. >> there are four dead americans, the ambassador and three of his people in benghazi. there is a deal on the table that most americans think was a terrible deal with iran. what is her foreign policy legacy, adam? >> eric, i mean, make the list. iran, iraq, syria, yemen, isis, the aggressiveness of the russians, benghazi. it goes on and on. she is defending a record of foreign policy that i think has led this country into peril and more of a defenseless position,

as opposed to what donald trump is. he's demanding what must be done. i think we're looking for a strong, determined, clear-headed leadership at the top. and i think the world is looking for america to stand up and be there again. i think we haven't had that for the last eight years. i would love to have a debate on hillary clinton's foreign policy credentials. i think she has a lot of explaining to do, as they say. we don't want to hear the gilded positions and the poll-tested drivel. give it to us straight. >> david, in a strange situation today, almost exactly the same time going on, donald trump was accepting the endorsement of the nra while a lunatic, could have been a terrorist, was going at the white house with a gun, he gets shot. listen, i've got to tell you, if you're donald trump taking that bet, meanwhile barack obama is

golfing. >> accepting an endorsement from the nra has nothing to do with foreign policy. donald trump is like the wizard of oz. he makes threatening statements but there's a little insecure man behind the curtain. you can't talk about foreign policy in depth in any way. that's sad for him but it's really insulting to our voters. >> david, the iranians, they probably don't like us, they made a deal with us because they wanted their $100 billion back. they don't like us. who do you think they're more fearful of, president trump or president clinton? >> i don't think the iranians fear donald trump at all. donald trump is full of bluster. there is nothing to back up. you can disagree with the agreement with iran and there are strong reasons to disagree with it. but so far, it has been effective. and iran has complied with the agreement. and iran has denuclearized. >> adam, we just heard this week that rhodes, the senior adviser

to president obama, said guess what, all that stuff about the iran deal that we told you, we were just saying that. >> i can't believe i'm hearing this from david. here is a country, iran, that says death to america and we give them cash in return. this isn't a policy of strength. this is a policy of capitulation and retreat. i think americans by and large have had it. they want a leader to stand up and make america feel something again. and the nra, by the way, donald trump got this endorsement today, almost six months after the election that took mitt romney took all the way to the election to get this blessing. there is something going on. he is commanding the conversation. >> we'll leave it right there, adam and david, thank you for a great debate. coming up, most voters, according to polls, don't trust either hillary clinton or donald trump. can both candidates revamp their image and does it even

in the election 2016 segment tonight, the trust deficit for hillary clinton and donald trump, according to the new fox news poll, just 31% of registered voters think hillary clinton is honest and trustworthy. 66% do not. 40% trust donald trump. 57% do not. and a new cbs news poll finds 64% of registered voters say hillary clinton is not trustworthy. donald trump also comes in at 64%. will this even matter with voters come november? with us now is a democratic strategist and pollster and a gop strategist and senior political reporter. ashley, hillary clinton, this has dogged her for years, the trustworthy number. it seems to be hanging out at a very elevated 64 to 70%.

>> yeah, and her likability too. remember in 2008 president obama said, how likeable are you? sanders is more likeable than her. when it comes to hillary clinton and donald trump in the general election, voters honestly are going to vote based upon the economy. and right now donald trump is leading there. her trustworthy numbers are plummeting and trumps are actually pretty decent considering. and if you look at the fox news poll, he's actually more trustworthy than she is. >> what about that? that was one of the selling points of hillary clinton, if he's not trustworthy either. but his numbers seem to be on the incline where is hillary's can't get out of that ditch. >> i think a lot of that has to do with the fact that the primary is still going on. as long as the contrast with bernie sanders continues to exist, it's going to look bad for her. it's interesting, politifact found she was the most trustworthy candidate based on

fact checking her statements. kasich was number two. >> did they put in there "i did nothing wrong with the e-mail server," did they put in there replaying the video from benghazi when we find out she's e-mailing her daughter that it was a terrorist attack? >> does she pay all her women staffers the same as the men? >> let's talk about this, donald trump goes after hillary clinton, goes after bill clinton. she doesn't really fight back too much. should she be fighting back to donald trump or does she have to focus continually on bernie? >> i don't think it's about focusing on bernie. we heard her this week say i will be the nominee, which is the first time she's said it out loud. the math has always been on her side there. i think getting down in the ditch with donald trump is a big mistake, she should let her surrogates fight those fights. >> ashley, any thoughts that donald trump isn't going to get her on this thing? what donald trump does now, he

knows money, and that clinton foundation is rife for scandal. >> yes, and he knows, hit her where it hurts. and he knows people don't like her. more people probably want to have a beer with him than with her, right? he knows that going into the general election, i'll hit her where it hurts, her trustworthiness, scandal after scandal. the clinton cash comes out a few days before the actual convention. >> don't these cancel each other out? the sex scandals with bill clinton, donald trump is a known philanderer. >> she said she would put bill in her administration as the economy czar. people don't want a third term of bubba. >> really? 22 million jobs, 4% gdp growth? >> you're equating donald trump's history with women with bill clinton with underage women?

fox news reported that. what's the issue with donald trump? how is he a known philanderer? >> he's been reported that he cheated on all of his wives. i understand "the new york times" piece this weekend was not that evil, but there are women out there saying that he groped them, he's been inappropriate. >> for "the new york times" to have an ex-girlfriend come out and say, they misquoted me. >> "the new york times" blew themselves to bits with the history with women. it's pure conjecture and speculation that he cheated on his wives. prove it. >> i think it is proven, actually, that he has cheated on his wives. he's talked about misbehaving in the past. that's part of his appeal, kind of a playboy sexism.

>> wouldn't it be smart for donald trump to stay on the bill clinton issue? >> stay on the bill clinton issue, continue to play the woman card, because guess what, it's not working for hillary. the more she says i'm a woman, elect me, the more it seems like she has men in her corner doing the work for her. >> stay right there. when hillary clinton says don't worry about the economy, i've got bill to take care of it, would you trust a candidate who says -- >> i'm going to delegate this to my husband, the former president, even though i'm trying to be a trailblazer, i'm a woman, elect me, yet obama's legacy and her husband's seem to be the two things she's focusing on. >> e-mail servers, benghazi, clinton cash, won't release the transcripts of her goldman sachs speeches, we were broke when we left the white house. >> that's the best one.

in the personal story segment tonight, donald trump's scorched earth strategy against hillary clinton. trump is holding nothing back, going after both bill and hillary clinton. just this week on "hannity," trump called out clinton over his controversies with women including an accusation of rape. mrs. clinton was asked about that. >> do you ever feel compelled to defend the honor of your statement. >> no. >> with statements that he's making that go to the core of the relationship? >> not at all. i know that that's exactly what he is fishing for. and, you know, i'm not going to be responding. >> but will her non-response strategy work? remember, trying to stay above the fray didn't work for trump's gop opponents. joining me, ned ryan, republican strategists, and here in new york, democratic strategist bernard lippmann. is this a smart strategy, to

take the high road for now against donald trump? >> here is the thing. first of all, she has to put away bernie sanders. but looking at donald trump, i have to say as a republican, regardless of what you think of donald trump and who he is, what he says, it's refreshing as a republican to see somebody, see a republican on the attack, not defending, not making excuses, but a full-fledged ears back attack. it's been interesting to see over the last week that he's made it very clear that everything is on the table. everything will be on the table, there will be no holds barred. this will be problematic for hillary as she pivots toward the general because she is not the greatest candidate, let's face it. she's not bill clinton. >> she herself will say i'm not the politician that my husband is. >> exactly. i think the fact that donald trump will attack from every different angle, eventually it's going to get to her, throw her off. it's a good strategy for him, never defend, always attack. >> at what point does hillary

turn? we know the clintons like to go negative. they have a ton of money to go negative. >> this will undoubtedly be the most negative campaign in history. in a street fight i give huge advantage to hillary. >> why? >> because there is not a single thing that can be said about hillary clinton that hasn't been said before, none of it is new information. where is with donald trump, it's always something else. today he said people should be carrying out loaded guns in schools, synagogues, churches. what sort of country would we be if we did that? then he varies let's give nuke weapons to south korea and japan. this is the gift that keeps on giving. >> what's happening? his numbers keep going up no matter what he says. from the very beginning, whether it was about the john mccain comment or the reporter from "the new york times," everybody says, trump's done. >> i give him credit, he's been able to unify the party nicely.

i believe when bernie sanders is out, it will be a different story. >> game changer for you? >> i'm not going to disagree with bernard, i think this is going to be an ugly campaign, one of the ugliest we've seen in recent times. i think this donald trump is better suited to this than hillary clinton, because he's much more nimble, he's better at the attack, where as she is a plodding candidate, she needs structure. this is the year of the outsider. nothing screams more establishment than hillary clinton. nothing screams outsider more than donald trump. and i think this is the year of the outsider. people are looking for somebody that's maybe not as scripted, somebody that's more authentic, somebody that is a new, fresh face, a different approach, not taking us back to the 1990s. let's look forward, let's look ahead, let's have some new ideas. i think it's going to be a very interesting campaign and i give the advantage to donald.

>> fox news poll has donald trump leading hillary clinton by 16 points with independents. you're a democrat, you're a hillary hater, you're a bernie sanders supporter. >> no. >> not you. i mean random democrat, who says i can't vote for hillary, i don't like the establishment factor going on, didn't work on the gop side, not working on the democrat side. does donald trump get some hillary clinton supporters? >> no doubt donald trump will get bernie sanders supporters. more likelihood is that hillary clinton will get gop support from republicans who say i will never vote for donald trump. >> they both have negatives. >> two out of three women are negative on donald trump. three out of five latinos are negative towards hillary clinton. he's attacking hillary clinton for being responsible for her husband's affairs? the negatives among women for

donald trump will skyrocket. >> what's becoming more and more crystallized, especially with donald trump releasing his list of supreme court justices, people are realizing it's going to be more about the supreme court, more about obamacare. some of these people who are saying they'll never vote for donald trump, i bet 90% of them vote for donald trump. >> that fox news poll had donald trump leading with white women. donald trump is running against a white woman. >> absolutely. you know what? the average of the last six presidents who have run, 39% of whites have voted. we typically in the democratic party do have a problem with whites. but you know what, 84% of people of color are supporting hillary clinton. it is almost mathematically impossible for donald trump to be able to achieve enough support among whites, 53% right now, mitt romney got 57% of white votes. >> he's doing better with women,

believe it or not, with white women. >> underperforming where john mccain did. >> not with white women. >> i don't know about that. >> no, romney had a slight deficit to donald trump with white women. women, romney performs better. >> white men hate donald trump, that's what you're telling me. >> he's crushing it with white men, am i right, ned? >> he is. i think the think that is interesting is, listen, i do think hillary has a little bit of a likability gap. i think the support for donald trump is a lot more enthusiastic, there is more of that on his side than hillary's side. no, he's doing very well with white men. >> i'll give you this. bernard, he needs to do a little better with hispanics. >> a little better? >> not much. he doesn't need that much. if he gets in the mid-20s, he's got it.

big huge bernie sanders supporter joins us. i love the fact that bernie sanders is going to stay in the race. doesn't that hurt the democrats? >> you know who hurts the democrats? hillary clinton. you know who advances donald trump more than anyone else in the race? hillary clinton. she is tied to the last eight years which have been a disaster for the middle class. it's about basic fairness. sanders and trump have a lot of commonality. i think they're the future of the middle class. >> tell me about the bernie sanders supporter. who are you? who is it? >> contrary to popular opinion, the average bernie sanders supporter is actually not a democratic socialist. they're people that are fed up. they're rolling the dice on a candidate like trump or sanders. >> are you not worried about

socialism? >> i don't think that's the direction we should head in. >> he calls himself a democratic socialist. >> i think most of his supporters support sanders because they cannot stand hillary clinton. she actually gives ted cruz a run for lucifer in the flesh title, in my opinion. she has the blood of an american ambassador on her hands. the middle class can't compete with slave labor in china and mexico be. >> so you and the massive number of people who come out for bernie sanders may be the reason donald trump becomes president. are you okay with that? >> i'm going to come out and support donald trump. >> are you a trump supporter in surprise? >> i am supporting bernie sanders. look, if -- >> if i'm donald trump, i get 100,000 people like you saying how great bernie sanders is and you would liquidate the

democrats. >> if sanders doesn't win the nomination, because of dnc protectionism including debbie wassermann schultz and coin flips and all of this jump, i'm going to support donald trump. i'll form a super-pac, democrats for trump, honestly. >> what happens if bernie sanders does beat her, all the superdelegates say, you know what, we're wrong, we'll flip and come over to your side. do you see what's going on in venezuela? they're socialist. you can't afford food. 2,000% inflation. there's no meat. socialism is a failed policy, a failed government policy. why in the world would you support a guy that would be willing to put america at risk? >> because sanders would have to work with the congress if he's elected. he's going to be moderated by whoever is in congress, which looks like paul ryan and the republican caucus.

i'm not concerned we're going to slip into a venezuela style collapse. if he does, maybe i'll start buying gold. i have mixed feelings about him. i would obviously support him over hillary clinton any day. >> there are a lot of you like that. >> i absolutely are. i get hundreds of e-mails about this. >> so you talk to people who are hillary supporters, i have to be honest with you, a lot of gopers say i would never vote for donald trump, but now that he's the nominee, they'll change their tune. will you change your tune? >> absolutely not. 45% of bernie sanders supporters would never support hillary clinton. and i don't think the number is that high, but i think it's very high. >> is this truly the outsider versus the insider? >> i really think it is. and look to the enthusiasm numbers. another poll recently said only 20% of democrats were excited to go and support hillary clinton. at this point in 2008 it was over 50% for barack obama. it's a disaster. >> they're worried about that on the republican side, saying the

just don't want to do it. >> i just think it would be inappropriate. >> an experienced politician, i'm out. i don't take orders really well. it's a problem. let me get to elizabeth warren. she doesn't like you. but out of nowhere she's calling you names and stuff like that. what do you think that's about? >> she's senator that has done nothing. she just talks. she's put in things, gotten nothing approved. she is not highly respected. as you know, the previous senator, a big supporter of mine, scott brown, is somebody that gave me a lot of information about her. and friends up there, she has had a big failed record as a senator. and all of a sudden, about a week ago, she started tweeting violently about me, just every tweet was like about trump, trump, trump. i finally hit her back, i think

i hit her back very hard. >> but why do you think she's taking the time to tweet bad things about you? >> because she sees polls that i'm going to beat hillary and she would like to make sure the democrats win. there are a lot of polls taken by individual people that show me beating hillary fairly easily and she doesn't want that to happen. now, she went on a twitter rant that was sort of amazing. i tweeted a few things and that was the end of that. i haven't heard from her since. >> i have a question from a viewer. diane reinke from silver spring, maryland. "donald trump says his pro-life. please ask him to name one specific thing he would do to protect the sanctity of human life." can you? >> well, i think that what we're doing, and i think it's a very important element in what i've done, i've become pro-life. i was in a meek fashion pro-choice. but i've become pro-life.

and the reason is, i've seen in my case one specific situation, but numerous situations that have made me go that way. i will protect it. and the biggest way you can protect it is through the supreme court and putting people on the court. actually the biggest way you can protect it is by electing me presid >> you would get the supreme court to overturn roe v. wade? >> i'm going to put conservative judges on. one of the biggest things happening in terms of this election are, you know, it could be as many as five judges will be appointed over the next four and a half years. we're talking about five judges. probably the most important thing that -- one of the most important things, other than the security itself of the country, is going to be the appointment of four to five supreme court judges, and i'll be doing that. >> so diane's question is answered, your specific thing to protect the sanctity of life
