9:00 pm
thanks for inviting us into your homes tonight. fair, balanced and unafraid. we'll watch albuquerque. and a special live edition of "the five" is next. >> hello everyone i'm dana perino along with kimberly guilfoyle and eric williams. this is "the five". fox news alert, thanks for joining us, on this special late night edition of "the five". donald trump is the winner of the washington state republican primary but the real fire works tonight are at trump's rally in new mexico. antitrump protestors turning violent, rocks were thrown and fire tossed at police horses. jonathan hunt has the latest on the violence.
9:01 pm
jonathan? >> you can see this started peacefully, and normally enough for one rally with antitruch protestors shouting and trump supporters shouting back. then, the crowd began to get more aggressive. the albuquerque police department did not appear to be the best prepared i have seen. the crowd did not break through the doors, they did, at one point, try hard to do that. there are still many police officers who will not and did
9:02 pm
not have helmets on and were in a potentially dangerous situation. we saw a few small fires set you can see that that was one surrounded by protestors. i would say we probably saw something like 500, numbers very difficult to get in these situations. but i would say around 500. we dwindled down to a couple hundred and the police lines here just pushing the crowd now further away from the convention center. >> thank you. kimberly, this is -- jonathan is just saying about the police line being flimsy. and cities and states have got to get prepared.
9:03 pm
this is probably just the beginning. >> there is a concern people that want to go in and listen and makeup their minds about an important decision such as a vote for president of the united states should be safe to assemble. whit comes to throwing fire at horses, unacceptable. jonathan pointed out you know the police in danger at this point. god for bid they put on the right thing to protect themselves. people say that is military action on the part of the police department. and they object to that as well. so it's very difficult. you're on notice when you see this. >> ebony, we have heard there are no arrests but very violent
9:04 pm
protests. does this surprise you? should there be stronger action by police? . >> i think that you're right here. i think that taking -- if they put too much on, it's militaryized. if they don't do enough, it's a flimsy line. you've got to take the precaution of safety. and that means police officers have to overprepare. and people shouldn't have to be intimidated to support a candidate. >> can we bring back jonathan? are you with us? yes. >> were these planned? if you remember the last protest after trump rally, we found out those are planned in advance. what about this one?
9:05 pm
>> okay. let's hope jonathan is safe there. >> i hope he is fine. >> show this will be people that are not sure you do not, 99% of americans do not agree with this rabble, this behavior. if you want to look that up. you show them. another network, his word caused this infantile violence which i believe is pathetic. that if you stop speaking, violence will recede, these are
9:06 pm
punches taking advantage of an opportunity and they know the police aren't fighting back now. >> and you make a good point. after california protests, everyone realized most of america doesn't want that. and if you don't like donald trump, protest peacefully. >> yes. i don't need people to articulate what it is they want. that is crazy. >> they flip you off and scream. they're idiots. >> they just want to be part of something. it's insane. >> we just found out jonathan is safe. we're going to go back to him. we can see this seen. describe it. you being there is a benefit to us. >> this is being pushed back at
9:07 pm
this point. you're asking about preparation here. i can tell you that yes, there was some preparation for this. but it was also well organized in the beginning there were students trying to keep the crowd peaceful. that effort failed and we witnessed police at one point finding a stun grenade. i do not believe it was tear gas fired but it sent the crowd running back and being further back now and a hard core group do not want to leave the
9:08 pm
streets right now. >> why are they arresting people sth this is violent. i mean, this, if anything deserves an arrest or 2, or 100, lock these people up. this is -- we have not heard of an arrest on the streets outside of the convention center as yet. i did see one young man being arrested or if he was hurt. we heard of a few arrests but none on the streets. and explaining why the police department might be taking that approach. you can see there is some bad
9:09 pm
language on the streets. that might be a reason why they haven't carried out that many arrests if any. >> arrest these punches. >> this is a joke. >> this is an uncontested state. can you imagine? what cleveland is going to be like? and philadelphia is going to be like? >> right. >> they're not shutting this down. these are people out there, punches just trying to have a good time, partying. some covering their face. what? they don't want to get in trouble, whatever. this isn't effective or meaningful. can you tell? i can tell the difference as a prosecutor. when you have things like this. people to look to have a good time and considerate times, to
9:10 pm
go to a wall mart in philadelphia and they take tvs. it's that kind of behavior, they should shut it down. >> the only way to shut this down is to vote what they want. >> i don't they're out there to make a political statement. i think they're out there because -- >> the flags, those aren't american flags. >> it's true. i don't think there is a real political agenda. this is just an opportunity for them to just be in opposition of trump. and is there something they do want? >> first time a rock goes through a window, or a business window they should shut it down and arrest people. >> yes.
9:11 pm
this is just a joke. do you see what just almost happened? >> so what sort of resources does law enforcement need? does that need to come from a federal fund? >> well, right. great point. you're going to have local municipalities and coordinated effort between the city, state protection and national guards. what it takes to protect people that want want to peacefully protest. so you have to make sure you have resources available.
9:12 pm
if you don't have public safety, you're going to run into a host of trouble in the city if they're trying to leave an event. >> what about responsibility by the opposition to trump? is there something they should say? >> i'm sure nobody is going to take responsibility, but i'm seeing now tear gas. we've been watching about an hour. maybe more, and this state could get out there. suzanna martinez should get them out and shut that down.
9:13 pm
this plays into the donald trump candidacy there. most people think it's disgusting. this is everybody no one wants. >> i'm not sure it's pro hillary or pro hillary as much as they're just out here to be in opposition. so i question. >> those signs are professionally made, the ones that say my grants are welcome. >> it's well organized. nobody went home and made that. >> can you imagine the other way around? right? this is a hillary clinton and bernie sanders event. >> remember, one person might have said something that was a little unforward.
9:14 pm
and anybody have final thoughts? >> it's very different than what we saw in baltimore. >> the mayor probably doesn't have a lot of experience. this should be a lesson. this could happen elsewhere. we'll bring you the latest. what bernie sanders just did that proves he's not dropping out of the race any time soon. ♪

prevent headaches and migraines. talk to a headache specialist today. this is a fox news alert you're looking live at albuquerque new mexico. antitrump protestors are tossing fire towards horses. and he's, look. he's, there, he had, oh, that is a mistake. whatever. jonathan hunt is this in the center of the protest. jonathan, has it calmed down? is it hot? what is going on? >> we've got a violent scene now. and the police line, still, trying to push back this crowd.
9:31 pm
and we just seen physical violence now. rocks being thrown at the police lines. you can see we have a dozen or so who are in full riot gear. a lot of these albuquerque police officers here tonight not wearing any protective gear. and they've been facing a hail of rocks at one point. bottles have been thrown. one police officer was hit in the head by a water bottle. it was plastic, thankfully. rocks are being thrown. we have a hard core group of around 100 police have been trying to push back away from the convention center for an hour to and a half now. we're saying as we, as far as we're aware, no arrests on the street.
9:32 pm
and they were what i would call a flimsy first line when crowds tried to rush from it. they, this is a police department that i think we can say is not used to this protest, this find of violence. we're down in orange county when there are violent protests there. that particular police department seemed better prepared than this one. you can see smoke is being thrown and pepper spray. and we're going to keep out of the way. that makes it difficult to talk or see. we're just backing up here, this is a volatile situation. more rocks being thrown.
9:33 pm

9:35 pm
a lot of that population angered by some of donald trump's rhetoric. you can see this is not about political slogans right now. this is about violence, they're moving towards us now. we're going to walk with them. sorry. just got hit by a rock there. we're getting more pepper spray. this, you're talking about this point and that is not clear to us. as we saw in the orange county protest, less violence than this one, they pushed them back to a freeway. we've seen a couple being knocked outcoming in again. >> are you sure? >> it looks like there is a lot
9:36 pm
of pepper spray going on. >> police are trying to disperse this crowd. i got spray. you can see the police catching up with a line here. and they, it's not clear to me. very to say what they're trying to do exactly. to end this protest. other than wait it out. and pushing back. hope they get tired. it's again, we're, and i heard you talking about this. we're not seeing arrests. i have no experience as a law enforcement officer of a major incident. it does seem peculiar in this situation that they have not moved in and made more arrests to try to break up this crowd.
9:37 pm
you can see looking back at the front line, now that front line is almost all helmeted and fully riot geared. officers because of the clear escalation we have seen and number of rocks being thrown and bottles being thrown there, police catch up with these they're firing pepper spray and this is clearly absolutely no sign of that at this point. at this point. >> i'm amazed how these people take advantage of the civility of law enforcement. i have a dumb question. how do the horses not react in these situations?
9:38 pm
how are they so stoic? when all of this is happening around them? >> i think that is you talking to me. i recognize your voice less so. . i don't mean to be rude. the horses are extraordinary. we see them in many situations. and training is extraordinary. when the horses first came in today, which is one horse went down hard with the rider straight back up. the line of horses was straight back into action. i'm going to 1, 2, 3, 45, 6, 7. we're told earlier by the albuquerque police department is that police deployment of mounted officers so they can't bring out anymore.
9:39 pm
i have to say they're very, very effected when they're forced a crowd back. if you've only got seven of them and this jonathan, i have a quick question. lots of profanity. vulgarness coming out of protestor mouths. is there anything they're asking for you can share with us? >> you know, all of it is broad in terms of the language we have heard. i can tell you we've seen a lot of signs talking about immigration and saying donald trump is dividing the country and would do so in the orange

9:41 pm
flags and that type of thing? >> there are two different things here. there is professional organization going on in terms of the signs. and there is a pro immigration group organizing. that is not so say they have anything to do with the violence we're seeing here. and there are union workers but they were unable to do any kind of job in marshalling protestors successfully. we're going to move left a little. just coming oaf our heads here. there is an element of organization. it would be, i could not say that the organizers, the unions, the pro immigration groups have
9:42 pm
anything to do in terms of promoting violence. now, i can't say they don't, but i cannot say that they do. and there is what you're seeing is pure trouble making. these are people who, a lot of young people see this on local news broadcasts and national channels and they see it happening. and te think that looks interesting i'll take part in that. and you're more likely to get this kind of action. there is a small rock.
9:43 pm
these things look worse at night. and with mr. trump who does attract these kind of protests. these rallies all have to be in daylight hours. this started at 7:00 p.m. here, 9:00 p.m. eastern. so then, you get people who have entertain themselves and you get this. so there may be reasons to look at when they're going to allow rallies like this to take place. dana? >> is jonathan, now, kimberly. jonathan. it's getting late. this is tough because then you're talking about putting forward curfews or restrictions and then, that is also giving
9:44 pm
into protestors. why hasn't anyone come forward? like law enforcement or chief of police or governor? to make a statement? now this has been going on for hours. >> to your first point, yes, there are a lot of difficult questions that have to be answered if this continues. and i think one danger is as well, you can see this happening in one city. and protestors in another city see it happen. say it's our turn next. that is something, hard questions that everybody involved in this process and law enforcement process is going to have to grapple with. to your second point, it may be that they're too busy now in
9:45 pm
trying to get these protests ended and return it to where it was just hours ago. that would be one reason i think of immediately. we've seen tweets denying they used tear gas. i believed it was just smoke grenade. and saying there is one report a wind yes was damaged. and police say they do not believe that any shots were fired there. we probably are ahead of me and as i look at the crowd here. still about 100 here. so until police get people off
9:46 pm
of the streets they're not going to relax. and that is probably the chief reason we're not getting official statements here. >> we're going to stand by for just a moment and we're going to come back with breaking developments, stay with us. it takes a lot of work... to run this business. but i really love it. i'm on the move all day long... and sometimes, i just don't eat the way i should. so i drink boost® to get the nutrition that i'm missing. boost complete nutritional drink has 26 essential vitamins and minerals, including calcium and vitamin d to support strong bones and 10 grams of protein to help maintain muscle. all with a great taste. i don't plan on slowing down any time soon. stay strong. stay active with boost®. quite like the human foot. introducing the 241 horsepower lexus is 200 turbo.
