support of our men and women who serve, our first responders. then we heard from cnn ian bryant who is slamming those cops swinging the anthem before a sporting event. he called it -- >> authoritarian shift. >> he said why don't more athletes speak out on behalf of their communities? perhaps more of them would if there wasn't a chilling force looming behind them. he's the one that wrote about doing the fly-overs and singing the national anthem and god bless america and it's a bad thing and forced patriotism. we aren't having our kids saying the pledge of allegiance. what is the problem here with expressing some patriotism? >> he says look, you know, these athletes who feel that their

into the democratic convention with a great deal of momentum and i think we're going to go marching out with the democratic nomination! >> well, the democrats in disarray. bernie sanders gearing up for a convention fight and fighting with party leaders while hillary is struggling in the polls but still claiming she already won the nomination. who is more responsible for this chaos, here to debate, chuck roacha and former adviser to the clintons, 2008 campaign, richard steen. i'll throw it out to both of you. who is responsible for this chaos? is it bernie? should he go home and be quiet? >> i think this whole narrative which i know some of your viewers would love to buy into about chaos is not quite right. the fact is in all the generic polls who do you want as president or control congress, democrats have a good margin

over republicans at this point. president obama is a bit more popular, his fambles favorables are way aahead fs his unfarveibles. you declared trump the winner the other day because he got the equivalent of super delegates in montana to endorse him. she's going to have it locked up after the primaries are over and on every issue that matters by democrats, climate, dealing with the banks, income inequality, rights for minorities, for workers, for lgbt members, there's no gap between hillary and bernie as there is between both of them and donald trump. >> bernie should go home, it's over, pack-up his suitcase and head home? is he the problem here? >> he's probably done more for the democratic party than he has for 20 years. he's brought new people into the

fold. he inspired young people. what you have is galvanized section of the party. hillary clinton has done an amazing job inputting her support together. winning lots of states and probably getting there toward the nomination and bernie on the other hand has brought a whole new group of people to the party, inspired these young people, and brought a new reason for these union guys and white democrats to come back to our party. together, they can beat donald trump, but separate we have no shot. >> chuck, do you think these voters will move over to hillary clinton? are they going to stay home or go to donald trump? we see new numbers which shows at least a percentage of them may shift to donald trump, support for general election candidates among bernie sanders supporters, shifting 20%? >> the numbers you talk about illustrate that most of those voters will go to hillary. something worrisome to me is that small number that say they would vote for donald trump.

what worries me about donald trump is he's unknown. there's going to be quite of a unique situation we've never seen with him going after her voters. there is concern on our side. i won't deny that. >> richard, it's been a rough week for hillary clinton and we see these supporters gravitating toward donald trump, away from bernie sanders. are you concerned as a former clinton supporter? >> yeah. first of all, at this point in the 2008 campaign, there were more hillary supporters who insisted they would never vote for barack obama than there are bernie sanders supporters saying they don't support hillary clinton. i suspect just as hillary put her around, obama, if you supported me, you support him. i think bernie sanders will do that. he says the last thing he wants is a donald trump presidency. the email thing is overblown.

there is great frustration. even if we look at the negatives of both of the presumptive nominees, it's over 50%. people are not excited to go to vote for their candidate but i think that's okay. in choosing a president, we're not choosing a spouse or a best friend. we're choosing someone who can gradually and that's the operative word here, gradually move forward the country in a positive direction. we're also choosing, when we choose whoever we're going to vote for, we're choosing against somebody and that's an okay thing too who could do a worst job at that or who would take the country in another direction. i think the frustration of i don't have a perfect candidate can be minimized i'm willing to do my part to choose the one i think would be a better job than the other based on my fundamental values. >> what are the messages of people who are fed up at this point? what's your answer to that? >> i think the never trump group and the never hillary group with

the democrats i think is a big mistake. because by saying i'm not voting for trump no matter what happens, i'm voting for hillary, and the same thing on the democratic side. we have to be very rational about our vote and say i'm going to do something that is a gradual, a gradual, an increm t incremental step where i want to be and not worry about everything else. there is things we cannot change. >> there's frustration and disillusion among americans, it's been tapped into from the bernie sanders and donald trump sides. you make all these promises about our wallets and you ignore us when you get to washington, the middle class. there's a real visceral hatred of washington and politicians. what are you hearing on sundays in church when folks have lost their job and trying to pay for their family to go to college?

>> i think you said it at the beginning, clayton. if we're depending on the government to make us happy, we're all looking in the wrong places. thank god in the united states of america and canada and so many other places, we have freedom. we can choose to make our families better, we can choose to get up off the couch and make our families better. if we're going to be waiting for somebody to do that for us in washington, we're going to be waiting a long time. >> when people are asking for religious leaders for advice, i'm so angry, what should i do? do you sense that some of the political anger normally they would rely on something the pope would say, but months ago, there was unrest among catholics because they weren't happy about the pope? >> i think we have to stop and

say we live in a society where kmupgs is like it was never before. nobody knew what the pope was saying 200 years ago on a sunday in the vatican. we know things today and, of course, there's a lot of misinformation too. we see all the nasty stuff people say on social media. they say stop, people aren't that bad. really, they are not that bad. they are worse on facebook and twitter than they are in real life. make your families and communities better and choose the candidate who will gradually p incrementally move the country forward. if you get it wrong, you pick the wrong guy, big deal. life moves on. >> message for memorial day week. >> first of all, gratitude. gratitude to the freedom for those who gave their lives. over a million americans died or are missing still for our country over the years. that's a lot of people.

efficient. >> that's right. i remember the first time that i went to the trump headquarters in the trump towers and it was this almost empty room on the fifth floorrump tower and i was kind of horrified by it because it was so small and so unlike anything i had ever seen. and trump said, hey, look, i spent x and all of the other republicans are spending 10 x and i'm winning so maybe i'm doing it better. there is a scale you'll have to reach if you're going to run a national campaign. it's not like primaries where you run state after another. it's 50 states at once. you do need an organization. you do need polling. you need a communication staff. you do need a data team. and even republicans are saying trump is way behind so it's one of the questions for trump's campaign manager cory lewandowski at the top of the hour we'll have an exclusive interview with him. >> what else will you be asking him in regard to that? how much is donald trump and his campaign depending upon the

republican party for that organization and ground game? >> he is. and he's said, look, i can't build all of this up in such a short time. it's six months. that's actually a relatively short time to build a national campaign. we'll be talking about that. and there's no question about this. trump likes what's called creative tension. he likes to pit people on his staff against each other. he does it in his real estate business and in this campaign. there's something of a feud or certainly a rivalry going on between corey and paul. there's much to talk to him about this week. we have the on again/off again bernie sanders debate. a lot of things to talk about with cory lewandowski and we'll talk to two members of the intelligence committee about the hillary clinton, ig report, about her use of private e-mails at the state department. >> a lot to talk about.

to raise children, we've lost that. i think we lived in these islands now where we forgotten that a community can come together to help discipline children. am i wrong? >> i think your rig're right. you don't need to touch the child or hit them. you're great at the monkey bars but could you slow down while she tries to learn. >> am i wrong about this? >> we live busy lives. it's important for our grandparents, our parents, our teachers to be able to discipline our children. that's an important component of this. it's a very touchy subject for parents and difficult when you see that happening. you have to sort of look at the broader picture and realize it's good for the child. >> we have gotten too precious about our children. she's going to discipline my child but what if your child is acting like a punk? my son did something on the playground to someone else, i would want a parent to say could you not push the little girl

down, please? >> i have a bunch of kids. three. a crazy amount. if my child is being unsafe or annoying, spraying someone with a water gun for example, yesterday was a hot day or getting in someone's way and being unsafe. i want other parents to step in. the problem as i see it is it takes a village to raise a child, not all values are the same. i don't want other parents stepping in for other reasons. a girl being on the monkey bars and a mom saying that's not very ladylike. that would be unacceptable to me. that's the value of the village discipline? >> that's a value statement. disciplining actually means to teach so if you're on the playground and you're thinking of how are we going to teach and give a better example, that's one thing. disciplining is different. >> values versus discipline. >> we're talking discipline versus punishment. discipline is about how do i

help this child look ahead. punishment is really how do i punish something looking backwards for an action. what we're talking about is discipline. >> what's the line though? >> no swearing. no yelling. of course no abuse of any kind or hitting. that's where the line is. helping to set a child straight and on the path usually where you can really pick it up is in the way in which somebody is speaking to a child. >> very good point. >> i'm curious where you would step in on this if you saw a kid acting out on the playground, where would you step in? what would you say? >> if he's physically harming someone else or hurting them, i would step in and say see if you can gently handle the situation. if not, we have to remember a great example to walk away and say, hey, buddy, that was not great. we would never do that or do you see how that affects other people. use it as an example. >> how would you step in? >> i think annoying or dangerous
