8:00 am
how do you feel today? >> great, great to be back. >> see you tomorrow. >> have a good day everybody. leland: we begin with a fox news alert, donald trump is about to speak out, trying to dispel some of the controversy over his donations to veterans groups. good morning, i jon scott. heather: i'm heather goward, in for jenna lee. we will go live to trump tower, that actually is alive picture of trump tower in new york city as we await a news conference and that is where the presumptive republican nominee set to unveil a list of those veterans groups that mister trump says received millions of dollars in donations from that fundraiser that took place back in late january.
8:01 am
jon: of you remember that event, the one he held after skipping a presidential debate hosted by fox news before the iowa caucuses. chief political correspondent paul cameron why trump tower with more on this. reporter: hi john. there have been questions really since january about what and how much donald trump would be contributing to these veterans groups. back in january, he identified about 20, 22 or so he felt would be appropriate to receive the donations that he had solicited when he skipped that debate early in the campaign process and he was asked last week about how much he given and he said were going to hold a news conference next tuesday, that's today. it caught his staff off guard so today there's about 170, 200+ media people here to find out how much money he's given. meantime, hillary clinton and craft across the board have been suggesting this is another grandstand, that he doesn't understand veterans
8:02 am
or the military as much as he's boasted about on the campaign trail when he famously said he's the most militaristic in the republican party because he gone to a military prep school and compared years ago his avoidance of sexually transmitted diseases as his own personal vietnam. coming as it does right after the memorial day holiday when there was controversy about his holding a rally near the lincoln memorial as part of a rolling under part of memorial day with all the bikers. folks took issue with that and said it was politicizing the most somber day elevating the following countries heroes so he will be explaining that and we expect them to attack hillary clinton as he has been increasingly in the last couple of weeks and then from here, it's back to california or another series of rallies in the golden state where he plans to additionally raise some money and he will be asked about that as well. there's a lot of organizational questions for the trump campaign, there's been some questions with staff, internal strife and as a consequence of him of the
8:03 am
lack of organization internally with the team, there's a perception around the country particularly with state republican parties that perhaps they're not getting the necessary resources and attention the parties standard bearer should be providing to them to help down ballot candidates which is to say house and senate candidates and any republican candidatewho maybe asked about the trump agenda and the trump presidential candidacy and the remaining five or so months before the november election. jon: that is scheduled to get underway any minute now, right carl? >> any second now he will come downstairs and we will get started. we will hold he will get questions but he said he's going to have to press concerts and makes a statement and a speech and then leaves . one never knows with donald
8:04 am
trump, he's the most unpredictable presidential candidate everybody has experienced and he likes it that way. jon: he will keep us guessing, we will have it live. carl cameron, thank you. as we await the start of donald trump news conference we want to take a look at new numbers on potential head-to-headmatchups in the general election. the real clear politics average of polls find hillary clinton has a very slim lead , just a percentage point ahead of donald trump while bernie sanders has a much wider lead, more than 10 percentage point ahead of trump. joining us to talk about this, amystoddard, associate editor and columnist at the hill and charlie hurt, on missed at the washington times . we don't think it's going to be bernie sanders as the democratic nominee so let's talk about hillary clinton versus donald trump. ab, why have the numbers got so much hype? >> democrats would argue that they are still battling through a primary contest which clinton is sure to win but hasn't been able to consolidate the party behind her as we are seeing improvement in donald trump's numbers which happened pretty quickly. he did have republican cannot
8:05 am
consolidation behind him. he lost more republican votes than anyone and never trump route tried to argue he was only going to end up with, he needed 90 percent of republicans behind him but he's up in the 80s and climbing and that's really boosted his numbers. she's making the claim or her cafcs that she's going to do better once she's the nominee and buries out-of-the-way but we don't know if he will enthusiastically endorse her. those numbers, any defections from bernie for hillary really make a difference with her margin in november . jon: she just mentioned charlie the never trump crowd. mitch mcconnell, the majority leader in the u.s. senate appeared this morning on fox and friends and was talking about donald trump and the fact that he is becoming more acceptable to the party, also said the party is not going to change to accommodate trump.
8:06 am
>> he's not going to be able to change the republican party. we know what we believe in. we have some differences with him but he would have to adapt to sort of the right of center world is and we do have some differences but he brags about being transactional and being a dealmaker and all the rest. that's part of what makes things work in congress so given the alternative, i don't have any trouble at all supporting donald trump and i hope everybody right of center does. jon: it sounds like donald trump is winning over some people that maybe in the early going were going to go on his team. >> quite frankly john, i would argue that is actually a very healthy, a very healthy situation where you have the leaders in congress, even though they are in the same party as the person in the white house, they are sort of, there's some competition between the two.
8:07 am
they jealously guard their own power, their own party. that's the way the country was set up in the first place. i think over the past 20, 30, 40 years washington has become so partisan that if you have a democrat in the white house and the democrats in congress all have to walk in lockstep.same with the republicans and the result has been an enormous loss of power for congress and many of the disasters we have today with the debt and i would argue even some of these wars. jon: i hate to interrupt you because the candidate has appeared at the microphones at trump tower. let's take a listen to donald trump were going to have an incredible. in cleveland, we look forward to it. we started working already on the convention. and lebron, good luck in the series because we will have a series which of course the longer it goes, the less time we have but that's okay and it's going to be very interesting to see what happens. but as you know, the basketball championship is partly in that arena so i
8:08 am
think it will be very exciting, it will add to the excitement and cleveland and that's what we want because it's going to be an exciting period of time. we've done some awfully good work, i was just informed we certified out that we got more votes than anybody in history of the republican primaries and we still have i guess six or seven locations to go, states to go and in history, think of it. in the history of this great party we've got substantially more votes than anybody else by many millions more than anybody who's ever run so that's great. when you think dwight eisenhower and ronald reagan and everybody, we have the most votes by far so that's something to me that's very exciting. and overall, it's just been a very exciting process.were going to do very well. we have no idea what's going to happen on the democrat side but certainly they're having difficulty. i don't like to see people having difficulty but if anybody has to have it, let it be then and i think it's
8:09 am
going to be very interesting but i'm very proud to say we've got the most votes and also if you look at the overall primary, the amount of votes cast, that's also a record so we've broken a lot of records in terms of the voters. our polling has come out in the polls are doing very well. as you know, we are pretty much even and in some cases i had of hillary and i think were going to have a very successful number of months and i think it will: eight in november and we'regoing to make america great again . so that's the way it is. does anybody have any questions? yes. reporter: [inaudible question was bracket okay, i'm glad you asked the question because i have raised a
8:10 am
tremendous amount of money for the vets, almost $6 million and more money is going to come in i believe over the next little while but i've raised almost $6 million. all of the money has been paid out and i'm going to give it to you in a second. i brought a list just in case that question was asked but the money has been paid out. i have been thanked by so many veterans groups throughout the united states. one gentleman called me up recently crying that out of the blue he got a check for $100,000 but i've been thanked by so many groups, great veterans groups area by the way, outside you have a few people picketing. they were sent there by hillary clinton and their picketing that the money wasn't sent. the monies all been sent. i wanted to keep it private. if we could, i wanted to keep it private because i don't think it's anybody's business if i want to send money to the that's but i have to say this. i raised close to $6 million. it will probably be over that amount when it's all said and done but as of this moment, it's $5.6 million.
8:11 am
when it started with a speech in iowa when i said let's raise money for the that's and it went up from $1 million to $2 million-$3 million and it now ends up to be almost $6 million and again, i think we can even do better than that but i will say the that the press should be ashamed of themselves and on behalf of the that's, the press should be ashamed of themselves. they are calling me and they are furious because i send people checks of a lot of money, were going to give you the names right now which is what you want and instead of being that you very much mister trump or trump did a good job, everyone said who got it, who got it? you make me look very bad. i have never received such bad publicity for doing such a good job. i will give you the names because that's what you want, right? are you ready? i brought them here. much of this money was paid out for your own but you have to vets all of these
8:12 am
different groups because these are many different groups. you have to go through a process. when you say checks for hundreds of thousands of dollars, to people and companies and groups that you've never heard of, charitable organizations, you have to bet it. you send people out, you do a lot of work. most of the money went out quite a while ago, some of it went out more recently but all of this has gone out and i willgive you the names. are you ready? you have your pen? i really think the press , the media, you know my opinion of the media is very low. i think the media is frankly made up of people that in many cases, not in all cases are not good people. but i think this is an example and i just, on behalf of all of the folks that have worked hard on this and all the people that made contributions including myself , i gave $1 million i just want to tell you that there's so many people that are so thankful for what we did. one or the thing that's important to know , zero
8:13 am
dollars have been taken out for administration. when you go to a lot of these different groups, in this case zero dollars have been taken out for administration a lot of these companies that make a lot of money, they do the administration stuff so no money. it costs zero dollars to accumulate all of this money, okay? so you have 22, that's $200,000. you can quote these people. that was another thing. a lot of the money when it was sent out, different people would call. i could tell you, i'm not going to mention anybody specifically but there are a couple of people that were really disgusting. they called and these groups, they don't get a lot of calls from the press and maybe some of them would keep quiet or they didn't know or didn't want to talk to the press or didn't feel comfortable. they didn't say they got the money which they all did come 100 percent , all certified checks. if anyone wants to see the certified check.
8:14 am
rather than take what i see a certified check, they said they didn't get the money. they all got the money. but they're not people that usually talk to the press. if you found $2 million or 2 and a half million dollars they thought well, the number is $5.6 million and it's going to possibly go about that because i believe some other people are coming in area ready? 22 till got $200,000. now, these are checks that have been delivered, that have been cashed, thatare now being used to help the that's . achilles international, great organization, $200,000. much of this money was paid a long time ago. american hero adventures, $100,000. americans for equal living, $100,000. america's debt dogs, the veteran canine 48, $75,000.
8:15 am
am vets, $75,000. just so you understand, when i didn't do the fox debate, on fox debate, actually they've been extremely fair over the last three or four months, i haveto say that about fox but when i didn't do that oneevent, the debate , i gave a speech . i didn't have to do this, raise the money for the vets but i decided it would be a good idea and i had some very generous people, carl icahn, gave half $1 million. phil ruffin gave 1 million, stuartroth gave 1 million . there is a lot of money and i didn't have to do that.it would have been easier just to give a speech but the problem with the press, what they do is they convince people like me not to do it,
8:16 am
not give money to different things because it's a lot easier actually that way. armed services, ymca of the united states, $75,000. bob woodruff family foundation inc., they did a good job, $75,000. central iowa shelter and service, these are all that related, $100,000. connected warriors inc., $75,000. disabled american veterans charitable service trust, $115,000. fisher house foundation, great people, $115,000. folds of honor foundation, $200,000. foundation for american veterans, $75,000. freedom alliance, $75,000. green beret foundation, $350,000. higher heroes usa, $75,000. homes for our troops, $50,000.
8:17 am
and just so you understand, i've got a long way to go. this money was raised during a little speech that i made rather than doing a debate. the one debate i missed, was the lowest rated debate by the way but i won't say that. honoring america's warriors, $100,000. hope for the warriors, $65,000. intrepid fallen heroes fund, $175,000. canines for warriors, $50,000. liberty house, $100,000. marine corps law enforcement foundation, $1,100,000. i gave $1 million to that, great group. navy seal foundation, $465,000.
8:18 am
navy marine core relief society, $75,000. new england wounded veterans incorporated, $75,000. operation homefront, $65,000. partners for patriots, $100,000. project for patriots, and we are still vetting them by the way, the check is ready to go but they don't have all of their appropriate, in fact we have down here, will be released to them upon the receipt of the irs determination letter, the only one which we hear they are fantastic but they have to give us that final document. here's what i mean by vetting. you have to have all the documents otherwise you can't
8:19 am
give them the money. project for patriots, $100,000. bj foundation, $100,000. racing for heroes inc., $200,000 support to land soldiers, $100,000. task force dagger foundation , $50,000. the mission continues, $75,000. the national military family association inc., $75,000. veterans airlift command, $100,000. veterans count, $20,000. veterans in command incorporated , 100 $50,000. $75,000. warriors for freedom foundation, $80,000. and i believe we are going to have some more coming in, some friends of mine coming in and that adds up to, let's see, that adds up to $5,600,000 total and were going to have more coming in. [applause] thank you.
8:20 am
iq. every one of those checks has been passed, other than the one check which is being held subject to their getting a final improvement from the government but every one of those checks has been passed. this is my check for $1 million, we had many letters from the various groups thanking us very much for the money and they didn't ask and i didn't ask people to be here today, i could have asked everyone of the groups unlike lori who has people stand outside and say donald trump didn't gave the money. i gave $5,600,000, more is coming in, probably tops the $6 million number. i never thought we were going to raise $1 million when we started and we end up doing almost $6 million so i have to tell you, the press are so
8:21 am
dishonest and so unfair. a lot of the people behind me and some of the people over here help inventing the various requests or money and i just want to thank all of those people. yes. [inaudible question] ... some of those you mentioned are well-known, others are more obscure, how do you work through that? >> i it wasn't involved in working through the corporations although the marines, they honored me last year at the waldorf-astoria i knew them. i was going to give it to three companies were three groups and we couldn't that them quickly so i gave it to the marine and if you look at that number , the marine corps law enforcement foundation is a fabulous group. and i didn't have to go through a big vetting process with them because i was going to slip the million-dollar
8:22 am
check of the gun among three or four different groups and in the end i didn't want to go through the process of having to bet all those different groups . i wanted to make this out of the goodness of my heart. i didn't want to do this with the press and all of a sudden everybody's going where did it go, who did it go to? we said how much was it? we gave, look, when this started i think you were there. i said if we can raise million dollars that would be good and we end up raising almost 6 million and i'm going to have more coming in over a period of time. >> don't you believe you should be accountable to people? >> i'm totally accountable but i didn't want to have credit for it. what i got was worse than credit because they were questioning me . by the way, most of that money went after your own but a lot of these groups, getting vetted when you painted the money out, they need government documents, they need a lot of different
8:23 am
... they want to find out if it is a group group. i had teams of people reviewing statistics, reviewing numbers and also talking to people in the military to find out whether or not the group was deserving of the money. we have given to these unbelievable groups and honestly, i wish you could hear the phone calls and see the letters, they are so happy and i'm happy to do it. i didn't want the credit for it but it was very unfair that the press treated us so badly. go ahead. >> the dishonest press, the disgusting press. >> generally speaking. >> i disagree with that and it seems as though you are resistant to scrutiny, the kind of scrutiny that comes with running for president of the united states. >> you know what, excuse me. i've watched you on the television, your real beauty. when i raise money, for the veterans, and it's a massive amount of money, find out whole how much hillary clinton has given to the veterans, nothing. then i see a few guys
8:24 am
standing out there, they don't even know what they're there for. they have no idea. they're there because hillary clinton's campaign second and i think it was one of you that found out they actually were with hillary clinton's campaign which is interesting but i wasn't surprised. i don't want the credit for it. but i shouldn't be lambasted and remember this, out of the almost $6 million that was raised, not one penny did i take for administration costs, that's unheard of okay? >> why do you continue to attack the press on this mister trump? [inaudible question] >> how well semi-going to raise the money? how else am i going to raise the money? >> ... it received widespread attention that would help your campaign ... >> until i was criticized, i'm the only one of the world that could raise almost $6 million for the veterans.
8:25 am
out of uniform applause by the veterans groups and and up being criticized by the press. yes, i made thespeech and during my speech i said let's raise a little money for the bats. it turned out to be a lot of money . i thought if we could get to $1 million it would be great . >>. [inaudible question] >> i do raise millions. i don't think so. >> writing million-dollar check is incredibly generous but at the fundraiser you said you had raised $6 million, clearly you had not. your critics said you tend to exaggerate and have a problem with the truth. is this a prime example? >> i raise almost $6 million, some of it didn't come through more of it is coming through that didn't come through. when wefinished we are probably going to be over the $6 million . >> but why exaggerate? >> to follow up a little bit on what jim was saying, you do realize that when the democrats are out there raising this money, the press is also reflecting what your opposition is saying about you, it's not just us
8:26 am
throwing questions about you because it's coming from some of them . >> i don't mind coming from the opposition. what i do mind is when i raise all these millions and when we started out no one ever thought it was going to be over 5 million. >> but what you're doing is you're answering the questions now that we had back then. >> here's the story. i had been dealing with the press a long time. i think the political press is among the most dishonest people i've ever met. i have to tell you that. you're excluded, carl . i think the political press, i see the stories and i see the way they are couched. for instance, i went down this weekend to do rolling thunder. i didn't have anything to do with it. they are tremendous gathering of people, i don't know how many thousands of thousands of people and i joked , i thought we were going to be going from the jefferson memorial to the lake. i was joking. they said donald trump was disappointed.
8:27 am
everybody knew i was joking. bases said donald trump was very disappointed that it didn't go from jefferson to lincoln, millions of people. i was joking. so they put it down as serious. they knew i was joking. i'll give you another example. the same event, it was roped off where you can only get so many people there and there were a lot of people, 50, maybe 25,000, it was alot of people plus people breaking the scenes . all the way along. jean washington, one man i like, wrote that there were 5000 people. there were many times that and you weren't allowed to have any more people and all these people were with their motorcycles in parking lots all the way, they're waving to me as i'm going by the way to minute, the point is law enforcement, these people didn't allow you to have any more people. thank the press for that. i had a tremendous crowd but it was the biggest crowd you could have had because you weren't allowed to have any more. they were allowed to have any
8:28 am
more people than they had so instead of saying trump manages speech instead of a tax crowd, they said trump was disappointed because i didn't have millions of people going from jefferson to washington. give me a break. it's dishonest reporting. go ahead. [inaudible question] >> let me tell you the veterans, what they believe in one group was here, is out of all the cerro here? maybe want to say, this is group i gave money to and i could've asked these groups, he just showed up, i just saw him but i could've asked all these groups to come here and i didn't want to do that. i'm not looking for credit. but what i don't want is when i raise millions of dollars to have people say like this sleazy guy rightover here from abc, he's a sleaze . you're a sleaze because you know the facts and you know the facts well. go ahead.
8:29 am
>> thank you mister trump. first of all for the record, how many state representatives from new hampshire on the veterans affairs committee, 22 years in the marine corps retired first target. what i want to clarify here first of all, i would never in 1 million years put my name on a candidate that did not from his heart looked me in the eye and tell me he's concerned about veterans. that's donald trump. i met him over a year ago. i've been involved with many fundraisers, many scam artists out there. he did the right thing by putting these groups. if you look at some of the groups he gets $.20, $.40 on the dollar and spending the rest for their nice lavish trips. he gave 100 percent. the liberal media is the only ones that have been calling me on the foundation. i'm a former chairman. i've been dealing with this stuff is four years as a
8:30 am
veterans activist. stop using veterans as political pawns. you've got a guy outside, mccoy. go do a google search on his facebook. he's out there, his picture is withclinton. they are using veterans as political ponds, that must . donald trump is doing this from the heart. you're more focused on the way he's raising money and are not looking at the 22 veterans that are killing each other every day. concerned about the thousands of veterans that are on the waitlist's . look at his plan on trump's website. he talked about medical cards, talked about fixing the va. he talks about competition. i think the liberal media need to get your head out of your butt, focus on the real issues area thank you. [applause] what i did is, i didn't ask how, i've gotten to know out little bit primarily through new hampshire where we had great victories but he showed up this morning because he was
8:31 am
upset and many of the other groups are very upset. they received 100,000 in the mail, they didn't even know what it was for, it was from me. other groups receive 200, $250,000. they didn't know what was four and i have again, upstairs i have received on calls with people crying. i've received letters, heartfelt letters and it really, the bad part about the dishonesty of the media is that people like me will be inclined not to do it anymore because why should you raise 5.6 million and i think i'll go over 6 million pretty easily, nobody said that we started this out as a small little project where it was less than $1 million and because it kept mushrooming and building, nobody talks about that. so we raised 5.6 million, we have so many happy groups, so many happy veterans and then i see these guys comedy hillary clinton people outside. they don't know the extent, they probably figured based on reading the press that from the make, didn't raise this kind of money.
8:32 am
but it is a lot and i will be raising more and we will be sending it to other people as we go along. [inaudible question] it's a complicated process, yes. [inaudible question] no, it doesn't. you know, the government sort of approved different groups for a lot of reasons and so it really, more than anything else it's also speaking to other veterans. we have a circle of veterans. i don't want to send a $250,000 check to a group that doesn't do good work so it's called vetting. we vet that that's what it's called bedding. >> why, do you need a thicker skin to run for this office? >> it's bothersome because i love the bats and i talked to the vets and as you can see i've given a lot of money and raise a lot of money for the bats and i think when the
8:33 am
press portrays it differently, the press is being very dishonest so i don't like that. i don't like dishonesty. not you go ahead. >> . [inaudible question] have you had any conversations with him? >> jeff sessions is a fantastic man. jeff sessions is one ofthe most highly respected people in the u.s. senate. jeff sessions is a person i believe ted cruz , has the most respect for and i think ted thought he would get an endorsement. jeff sessions has never endorsed a presidential candidate before. in 20 years he's been in the senate so jeff sessions certainly is somebody i would consider, absolutely. he's a fantastic person. [inaudible question] ... animal activists are outraged that they kill this really
8:34 am
for this four-year-old boy. >> it's a very tough call. it's amazing because there were moments with the grill of the way he held that child that was almost like a mother holding a baby. it looked so beautiful and calm and there were moments where it looked pretty dangerous. i don't think they had a choice, probably they didn't have a choice. a child, a young child was at stake and it was too bad that it wasn't another way. i thought it was so beautiful to watch that powerful, almost 500 pound gorilla away he dealt with that little boy but it takes just one second. it was one second, not like it takes place, well, he's going to do and 30 seconds from now. it takes one little flick of his finger and i will tell you, they probably had no choice. >> policy question on the veterans. >> go ahead. [inaudible question] i'm in favor of fixing va healthcare. va healthcare is one of the
8:35 am
great catastrophes in this country, what's going on. look at what's going on in phoenix and other places where they are catching people stealing and they don't even fire them. where people are waiting five days, six days, seven days online, dying while they wait on line and i am in favor if they can't get to a doctor within a reasonable period of time they are going to go see a doctor and the country going to pay for it. they're going to go to a private doctor or public hospital but someplace that can take care of them immediately. we are losing thousands of people waiting online and the veterans administration is run by obama just as incompetently as he's running our country. you look at the tsa, look at what's going on at the airports and you look at that . just take a look at that. that's like the veterans administration. nothing in our country works anymore, it's a mess and maybe that's why i'm doing so well in the polls . >> but his privatization the answer?>> no, it doesn't
8:36 am
have to be privatization. what has to be is when somebody is online and they say it's a seven-day way, that person is going to walk across the street to a private doctor, be taken care of and we are going to pay the bills. that's going to be a lot less expensive and we will check it out and be careful but that's going to be a lot less expensive than what's going on. these people are living in hell and hillary clinton says the veterans administration is working just fine and the head of it, donald said last week that waiting online is not bad, look at disney world. these are the people we have running things. it's ridiculous. added? >> there's a poll out today that says half of americans think hillary clinton should stay in the race even if she's charged with a felony. does that suggest you are continuing to pound her or i don't know if she can even run, should she run? ... >> that's their choice. you have a party called the democrats and they're going to have to make that choice. i think it's probably going to be her because it's red and i think a few people will
8:37 am
say i'm the one that came up with the term red, i used it for myself but i won by such bigmargins that the whole system is rigged . on both sides. same with the republicans, just less obvious. the democrats with the whole superdelegate thing, that's ridiculous so i think they're going to have to make that determination. if you're asking me what i prefer running against? >> you think she committed a felony? >> i think what she did was very bad and i think a lot of people have done a lot less than herand their lives have been destroyed . >> the press exposed the va issue so shouldn't the press get some credit for that? >> i think that's fine area go ahead. >> can ask you about the university because there's been a lot of questions about that and you also challenged the credibility of the handling the case. >> the judge has been very fair, has not done a very good job. he's been very unfair and i
8:38 am
will win the trump university case, already have as far as i'mconcerned . i don't care. you know what? i don't care. i have a judge who's very very unfair. >> y? >> you will see it on the court documents but i have a judge that very unfair. he knows he's unfair and i willwin the trump university case. i could settle the case , i just choose not to. when i ran, they said why not settle the case? you know what? i'm a man of principle and most of the people that took those courses have letters saying they thought it was great, essentially. it was good, it was great and you know what? when they are on the stand, we will say how come you signed a letter saying that trump university was so good? a woman that was the original plaintiff in the case, they went to the court and the judge allowed her to get out of the case.
8:39 am
the whole case should have been dropped. they wanted her dismissed from the case. you know why? because she was deposed. she was such a bad witness that we win the case easily. she signs a letter and she's on tape like these cameras in unbelievably good things about trump university so they didn't want her anymore because she's a disaster for them. they went to the judge and they said your honor, we'd like to have her not be a participant, not being plaintiff in the case and he said that's okay. she's the one that started the case. now they don't even want her to testify. they don't want her to testify because she's a disaster. she has all sorts of beautiful statements about it and importantly, she's on tape how great it is. they don't want her. i wouldwant her either and i could settle the case . i can settle the case. i will go through the process. >> you reacting against what you call the spoiler in the candidate. you didn't ruleout an independent run so why are you so worried now ? >> because we're down the line and the fact that, you
8:40 am
can't win. for the most part you can't even get in on texas and arizona state so texas isout . here's what happens. what happens is you will not have every importantly you will not have supreme court justices. you could have as many as four or five. that's over. now, crystal is the last one. don't forget, he said trump would never run. that's not a smart person. donald trump will never run, remember. >> mark you remember? i don't actually blame you. why do you put this guy on television? he's got no credibility. set i won't run, if i run i won't do well, if i do well if this or that. he looks like such a fool. he's practically crying because he can't justify it. now he comes out with a tweet over the weekend over memorial day weekend, it sounds like he's going to put somebody up. i thought they're going to find some indie. now he comes up with
8:41 am
something saying he was almost kidding. okay question mark let me tell you, these people are losers. he's trying to drive you guys a little bit not. if they do an independent, assuming decent which i don't think anybodywith a reputation would do it because they would look like fools . but what you're going to do is you lose the election for the republicans and therefore you lose the supreme court. therefore, you will have a group of people put on the supreme court's where this country will never, ever recover. it will never be the same area. >> when you referred to some republicans and conservatives as losers ... >> i didn't say that. i said bill kristol is a loser. he has called every single person, take a look. he's going to lose this state. i win in a landslide.i didn't say everybody. i many, but i didn't say everybody. wait, wait. ill kristol is a loser.
8:42 am
his magazine is failing as you know. i don't think it even survives area he's getting free publicity but bill kristol, i've been watching this for two years. trump is going to run and then i going to race, we going to new hampshire. i win in a landslide. everyone place i went i wasn't going to win but i win in a landslide. you think he doesn't like me? how about one or two more? >> today, the nixon administration officials longtime big financier in republican politics was in fact the finance chairman of the republican governments association essentially said today that you have to stop beating up on republicans and it goes on to say that you essentially got some 30 percent of the republican vote. >> it's wrong. >> in the primary. >> i didn't get 30 percent. my last one was 78 percent, i didn't get 30 percent. >> is going to make it more difficult to unite the party when you are criticizing your
8:43 am
critics from within it? >> here's the way i look at it. when i have somebody that's not on my side, and by the way, i've gotten great applause from the pless in terms of an achievement because the republican party is really well unified. we have,, people you never would've thought possible are now saying i support so remember that. we don't talk about that much but yesterday the big stories about how fast the republican party is healing. that was a rough campaign. i don't know fred malley. the real story is how fast we are getting together. if i have a republican that's not on my side, i'm not going to, why should i be particularly nice to that person? i'm not going to go after them like i would hillary or crazy bernie but why should i be nice to that person? if i have a person that's not going to support me i have no obligation.
8:44 am
politically, i may be right or i may be wrong but that's the way i am. i'm a very honest person. if somebody's going to stay a little bit negative for a lot negative about meand you happen to be a republican i'm going to hit them back, not always. but i may choose to hit them back .[inaudible question] >> in the last week you said the former republican nominee walks like a penguin.>> i'm not a fan of mitt romney. mitt romney lost an election he should have one and if you read the front page of the wall street journal about mitt romney, he looks like a fool. i'm not a fan of mitt romney. just so you understand, i raise a lot of money for mitt romney. i made robo calls, made speeches for him. he let us down. if you read the frontpage of the wall street journal this weekend, mitt romney looks like a fool. why would i say good about mitt romney? you said you're committed to party unity . [inaudible question] >> she was not nice and i was fine, just a little bit of a jab. she wasn't nice and you think i'm going to change?
8:45 am
i'm not going to change and not with her. one more. >> bob dole said you should apologize. >> bob dole is a fan of mine so don't tell me about bob dole. look, gary johnson got one percent of the vote last time. i watch that whole situation, it was really pretty disgraceful. it's a total friends deal. he's a fringe candidate you want to know the truth. i watch him and i watch his motions and i watch what he says. i think he is a fringe candidate and your second, well, when you do a little research on that i think it's not going to be a factor okay? >> you set a new bar today for being contentious with the press corps calling us losers who are faced. >> not all of you, just many of you.>> is this what is going to be like if you are president. >> yes, it is. i'm a person ..., yes it is going to be like this dated. if the press likes.
8:46 am
stories like they did with this because half of you are amazed that i raise all this money. if the press writes false stories, they did where i wanted to keep a low profile, i didn't want the credit raising all this money for the bats. i wasn't looking for this credit. and by the way, more money is coming in but i had no choice but to do this because the press was saying i didn't raise any money for them. not only did i raise much of it, much of it was given a long time ago. there is a vetting process and i think you understand that. when i raise over $6 million in in the end we will raise more than six because more is coming in but when i raised $5.6 million as of today, more is coming in and this is going to phenomenal groups and i have all these people vetting the people that are getting the money and working hard and then we have to read , a couple of libelous stories in the newspapers and these people know the stories are false, i'm going to
8:47 am
continue to attack the press. i find the press to be extremely dishonest. i find the political press to be unbelievably dishonest, i will say that. thank you all very much. thank you. very much. [applause] jon: donald trump, presumptive nominee delivering a news conference there at from tower in new york city outlining $5.6 million he says that he raised for veterans groups, 1 million of it he says donated by him personally. we joining us once again to columnists who were, our conversation with them was interrupted when the trumpets began. 80 stoddard associate editor at the hill, charlie herz, columnist atthe washington times. what stands out for each of you from that news conference, abe, to you first . >> i think you're going to
8:48 am
see a lot written about how he is not going to change, doesn't want to change, that he's being criticized for not uniting the republican party and criticizing people who are his critics but he probably ended the controversy over raising money for veterans and the money not making it to the groups. there were questions in the campaign about which routes had received them and no answers came so it was an ongoing story, trumpeting last week he hadn't yet given his own million, he put it to rest. he gave all the mouse or the organizations and i think he says he's done thisbig thing and i think that's the end of that story . jon: did he put the question's arrest, chuck westmark. >> yes, and this is vintage donald trump. what we seem for the last 11 months or 12 months now. what started as a scandal, what started as the washington post had a story last week, talked about all these questions about the money and how much is raise and how much is given, and
8:49 am
donald trump just takes it. he holds a big press conference and he takes on the media and attacking the media, it is never a bad idea for a politician. he doesn't brilliantly and he does it forcefully and he does it in a way that makes people sitting at home cheer because they share so much of that for the media and it's just amazing to watch ended 80 said, he put all his questions to bed and not only that, out of a 40 minute press conference where he was able to showcase his devotion to the bats and his charity to the veteran organization. jon: somewhere i can hear spiro agnew applauding . charlie herz, 80 stoddard, thank you both. >> thanks john.

heather: senator sanders says hillary clinton is nervous about the state of california so he can he win the golden state and what would it mean
8:51 am
8:52 am
8:53 am
>> hillary clinton stepping up her efforts in california, as bernie sanders campaigns non-stop in the golden state ahead of its primary one week from today and then goes on the attack. listen. >> what the establishment always does, they do it today and did it 100 years ago, and tell people, real fundamental change is impossible. what they say, think small, not big. [applause] i don't want to mention her
8:54 am
name, but that's true. heather: i guess those are fighting words for the democrats we have a democratic strategist and former deputy campaign manager for martin o'malley. we have lisa booth, republican strategist, contributor to the "washington examiner." thank you both for joining us. hillary clinton was supposed to be spending a gun much time in knew -- bunch of time in new jersey and pulling up there and in california. what will that do to her campaign? >> if she were to lose california, such a democratic state, such a diverse state that would be massive blow to her candidacy especially trying to build momentum heading into the convention and heading into the general election. reality is bernie sanders already won. you look at the democrat platform planning committee, he pot five as his people, almost as much as hillary clinton supporters to the committee. he will shape the democratic platform pushing it further to the left -- heather: core reason, we keep wondering what is the end game
8:55 am
for bernie sanders? he has enthusiasm behind him but doesn't have superdelegates or kind of money hillary clinton has or the establishment support? >> i think when it comes to bernie sanders and his goal what he is trying to do, i think it goes beyond the nomination. similar to what heather said, i'm sorry, lisa said which it is not about really about the nomination, it is about changing, right, the democratic party which he has been able to do. he has the platform, five platform members. it is about really trying to make america better for him, changing that, talking about minimum wage, talking about breaking big banks, expanding social security which is messages really resonating and that is what we're seeing. heather: they certainly do seem to be resonating. we don't have a lot of time because we were covering the donald trump event live. corrine, i want to ask you, you believe senator sanders could win the california primary.
8:56 am
he has tightened the gap in the months since march hillary clinton led by seven points, now it is two points. your prediction? >> we could end up tuesday night where the hillary clinton reaches magic number of 2803 and becomes nominee and bernie sanders wins california. california is very interesting last couple weeks, if you look at registration numbers. 288% growth in democrats alone. 123% growth in latinos. heather: i'm sorry to be so tight with both of you. lisa, what happens is corrine is right and bernie sanders wins the state of california? >> it is such a massive blow to her candidacy and her campaign, the fact she has not been able to put away, someone independent, someone not part of the democratic party and can't defeat 74-year-old socialist and can't put him away is significant blow to her candidacy. would stunt momentum she desperately needs heading into the general election. heather: we'll have to leave it there.

jon: you want to come back to do another hour? >> that sounds great. jon: we'll see you back then. "outnumbered" starts right now. >> bye-bye. harris: we begin with a fox news alert. donald trump meeting with members of the press to answer critics about what happened to the millions of dollars he said were going to raise for veterans groups. this is "outnumbered." i'm harris faulkner. here today, sandra smith, host of "kennedy" on fox business, kennedy herself. fox news legal, political analyst, eboni williams and today's #oneluckyguy, from the great commonwealth of massachusetts, former senator scott brown and he is outnumbered. how are you doing? >> great to see everybody. i'm doing well. harris: are you ready for this. >> absolutely. harris: let's hit it. trump with tough words for the media. saying he is been treated unfairly. you recall in january he would raise millions of dollars for veterans charities including one
