and our reporter is manning it this afternoon. stunning video to watch, what happened? >> reporter: it is incredible nowadays with iphones and smart phones, we can get dramatic video and it appears that is what happened here. there was a passenger that captured the shootout on camera. dallas love field not terribly far from downtown. and so we with are heading to the airport now. and working the phones and trying to talk to the city of dallas aviation spokesperson and in addition to the dallas police at any point and they are tight lipped. they are trying to get to the scene themselves before they release the information of what is happening and how it escalated and started this morning. it is it a friday afternoon, it is it that time of year when

school is letting out and a lot of people are no doubt heading to the airports on a friday afternoon to get away for the weekend. dallas love field, a smaller boutique airport. dfw airport is the main airport that serves north texas. but dallas love field is more of a boutique airport and only southwest airlines primarily is there. american does a few. it is a busy airport and you can see people running for their lives when shots rang out in the video, shepherd. >> indeed they were. i mentioned brian armstrong that shot the video and quoting him. i got off of the plane at dallas love field and this is what i came out to. and you can use this footage. the local cbs station, we were

according to local cbs station, there was one on a loud speaker, a law enforcement officer say ing and i quote, if you are a witness to this incident, please come down and talk to me. we're moving as quickly as possible. we're trying to take care of what we can. we'll get out of here and let you know as soon as possible. the situation now is dallas police have just informed was one person has been transported to a local hospital. we presume that's the suspect. the big question now, this person was suspected of doing what. we're confident there's a very good answer to that question, but this has happened so quickly, we just don't know what it is. whatever it was, it was outside the security corden, so, from every bit of information we have, no security was breached at love field today. you know, there are times when domestic arguments spill over to all parts of life. there's just no telling at this point what prescipitated this, but result is that the airport

is now shut down. we have no word of disruptions to air traffic. no word of disruptions to dallas international airport. but this love field, this smaller of the two airports there, it shut down for the forseeable future. local nbc is reporting what dallas fire confirmed to us, that one person is en route to the hospital. all of this is locked down and questions to be answered soon. we're confident. again, love field in dallas and the video, we get in video from sources all the time we never bring to you because so much of it turns out to be not of substance, consequence and not true chlg in some case, staged. this one not at all. one more look at this while we work to get new information from police.

you recall what happened in brussels when there was a terror attack that took place outside the secure area. whether that is something of that nature was beginning on and police got wind of ilt and opened fire, we don't know. could have been deranged individual. again, not a lot of information about what transpired there. we know one person has been taken to the hospital. condition unknown at this time. >> instantly, we saw the video taken by somebody who happened to be standing nearby and turned their camera on to the action so you could see what happened. you heard how quickly those shots rang out, although we have no idea what the origin of this dispute was. we have no idea why authorities thought he was enough of a threat that something needed to be done, so sort of staggering to watch the people on the side kind of come out and look and wander around the scene to go back in rather than immediately ducking and taking cover.

again, we do know that one person has been taken to the hospital. so, apparently, he was in a condition to be able to try to get up after being hit by at least one shot. plifs ther. >> we have no idea what he did to get that attention. he was also telling people to go inside. you saw people wandering out to see what was going on, but the suspect on the ground, they're touds baggage claim area. we don't know where they had come before that or what they had been doing to get that attention, but that video immediately going out and going everywhere instantly. >> love field sits about six miles north of downtown dallas if you haven't been there. it was the main airport into dallas until about 1973 or so. when it was replaced by dallas ft. worth international, a massive complex in between those two cities. love field still open primarily serving as a hub for southwest
