unfortunately nyquist is out. >> no triple crown this year. >> no. >> it was fun last year to watch for sure. all right. i'm going to go have a bourbon and sweet tea. >> probably just sweet tea. >> there you go. see ya. lots of fireworks in the political arena as the bruising political fight intensifies between donald trump and former gop presidential nominee mitt romney. both are locked in a heated war of words as trump gets set to hold a rally with supporters in pennsylvania at this hour. hello, everybody. all of this is happening with just five weeks to go before the gop nominating convention in cleveland. romney making headlines saying trump will, quote, change america with his triple down racism and trump firing back saying, romney had his chance but, quote, choked like a dog. trump is about to take the stage outside pittsburgh. this is mr. trump's second trip to the area since april just ahead of that state's primary.
12:01 pm
let's get the very latest live in tampa where mr. trump campaigned earlier today. peter? >> earlier today we saw donald trump do something that he has not done as the presumptive republican nominee, he called out to his crowd here at the tampa convention center of about 5,000 people and asked them to start shouting out the name of who they would like as his running mate. you heard about every single republican independent, some random celebrity names called out. but of the three there were just three rather that trump decided to repeat at the podium. they were newt gingrich, jeff sessions, and condi rice. trump today was not using a teleprompter like he did a few times this week and he revealed that his general election strategy is going to involve more rallies, not less. >> this is my first stop in florida. my first campaign stop. you know, again, everybody said, oh, wait until after the convention.
12:02 pm
i can't wait. i'm dieing to get going. what am i going to do, play a round of golf? it's poboring. want to do this. >> trump aggressively went after hillary clinton's most recent high profile endorser, senator elizabeth rar rewarren, which h called pocahontas. he called hillary crooked. he called president obama incompetent. and he didn't only go after democrats. he also went after mitt romney who accused trump yesterday of using racist undertones s ts t support. >> i watched this poor, sad mitt romney this morning. he suffers from mass misogynist. he's sitting like a real stiff. >> all right.
12:03 pm
we lost that live shot from peter there due to the weather. but of course you can see mr. trump campaigning earlier today in florida. now, a critical block of republican voters who have been skeptic. of donald trump throughout the primaries are evangelical christians. now he's trying to win them over speaking yesterday at the faith and freedom coalition in washington. a group of religious and social conservatives there. attacking hillary clinton and defending the right to worship freely. >> thank you very much. religious freedom, the right of people, of faith, to freely practice their faith. so important. freedom of any kind, means no one should be judged by their race or their color and the color of their skin. >> joining us now the president of concerned women for america, author of the book "feisty and feminine, a rallying cry for conservative women." she joins us now to talk more about mr. trump at this
12:04 pm
weekend's conference. and as we wait for mr. trump to address the supporters in pennsylvania i want to ask you what was the reaction among the evangelical crowd there in d.c. knowing that many have had reservations about mr. trump even though he is the presumptive nominee. >> thanks for having me on. yes, that was a group of conservative activists, some for american, the cosponsor of the event, we had state leaders, young women for america college chapter presidents there. they want to vote for a conservative. and so i think he did a good job of coming in right off the bat addressing the issue of life. you heard just now religious freedom. he also talked about israel. and those are three key issues for evangelicals. i thought it was very smart of him to come in and immediately try to put those to rest. >> up to now some of the reservations have been along the lines, if it's personal life, of his marriages, his -- people believe he has more of a social
12:05 pm
agenda that's much more liberal. how has he addressing some of those concerns with the crowd that he needs in this election? >> right. well, i don't think anyone's laboring under the delusion that he's a bobble banging, you know, religious person. he's a presbyterian. we don't really know his heart. there are certainly issues that we deliver from him on. but, you know, i think he did himself a favor by releasing the list of 11 supreme court possible nominees. that is also a very key issue. we know that that touches every issue that we care about. and the next administration will choose between one and four supreme court justices. so that was actually one of my very key issues. there are others i would love to discuss further with him, mainly planned parenthood. but i think he still has some work to do but he certainly did himself a favor yesterday. >> what is it specifically you would like to ask him since he
12:06 pm
has made no secret of the fact that he has supported that group's agenda in certain respects, certain areas? what is it specifically that you hope you can talk to him about that will make you feel more comfortable as you move to support him? >> well, he needs to understand that half a billion dollars in taxpayer funds are going to planned parenthood every year and they're the number one provider of abortions in this country. and in addition they've been caught red handed. they're under congressional investigation for selling baby body parts, brain, heart, lung, tongues. i think there's a lot that he doesn't know. the goal should be to help poor women, there are 13,000 community health centers around this country that provide not just gynecological care but whole woman care. the number one killer of women is heart disease. there's a lot we can do to support the health of women. giving money to planned parenthood is not a good one. >> i know you are among some of the high-profile women out there trying to get more supporters
12:07 pm
and women specifically to back mr. trump. what are woman within the gop now saying as it's very clear that he is the nominee going forward? >> let me just say i have not personally endorsed donald trump. you know, there are still things i would like to talk to him about. but there's two choices. i think bobby jindal did a great job in the "wall street journal" saying, yes, we don't particularly know necessarily what he'll do on everything but unfortunately hillary clinton is completely predictable. i've lived through the clinton years. they were horrific on many ways and i don't want to go through that again. she is no friend to women. we lived through the days when women came forward and explained how they were hurt and abused by bill clinton and she defended them. in fact, she went on tv and blamed conservatives for making it all up. she is not a friend of women. and so, yes, i have concerns with him but i know that she is not someone i can support. he has my vote. the question is how hard will we work for him. >> i want to get your response
12:08 pm
to some of the headlines over the last 24 hours with mitt romney's remarks against donald trump. we're going to get into that a little bit more in the show later on, but i want to get your take on the initial reaction about romney going after trump in a very big way. do you think it's going to be much more difficult for the party to unite behind donald trump with the former nominee out there in a big way saying it's a mistake to support him? >> listen, you know, donald trump needs to watch what he says and he needs -- there are some things he needs to go back and clean up, no question. but, i will say that -- and i hear this from women, by the way, that women who have worked in the primary to support him -- by the way, i didn't support him in the primary, but the women that did are astounded by the fact that, you know, mitt romney now is coming out against him. i didn't support mitt romney in 2012 in the primary. i supported rick santorum. i endorsed him.
12:09 pm
i worked hard for rickney won, the differences. of course i called the women to go vote and we registered women all over the country. i did a bus tour for mitt romney -- well, for the issue of welcoming to vote, conservative welcoming to vote. and so which in essence helped mitt romney. so, you know, i find it troubling that now after all of that it just seems hypocritical that now he can't get onboard and support the nominee. i don't understand it. >> all right. penny, thank you so much for joining us with your take. >> thank you for having me. >> no problem. and keep us posted on what transpires over the next few weeks as we move closer to the convention. >> thank you. more now on the developing battle between donald trump and mitt romney as we've been talking about. after the 2012 presidential nominee outlined why he believes the country's character would suffer with trump in the oval office. take a look. >> most recent attack on the judge, a racist approach is one

which i think says to me i can't be part of that. i will not sign up for that. i don't want to be associated with that in any way, shape, or form. >> and we're going have much more on all of this with washington times online opinion editor monica crowley later on in the hour. news fox alert with new information on that tragic shooting of kristina grimy, former star on the popular television show "the voice." flis are saying the suspected gunman apparently traveled from another city in florida before confronting the young singer in orlando. also say that suspect did not appear to know her and may have been a deranged fan. she was murdered while signing autographs after a concert. casey is joining us now live with the latest on the details of this tragedy. >> police say there were roughly 120 fans around the singer when this went down and they all saw

those happened in a predominantly shia area just south of damascus. this news comes as u.s.-backed fighters tightened their grip on islamic state strongholds in northern syria where tens of thousands of civilians are trapped right now by the fighting. the state department is encouraging israel to dial back efforts to restrict the ability of palestinians entering that nation. this after this week's terror attack that killed four israelis in tel aviv. >> we understand their desire to protect their citizens and to send a message, but we would only urge that any measures that it takes be gun under -- with the consideration towards the many innocent palestinians simply trying to go about their daily lives. >> meantime the palestinian terror group hamas the vowing to fight back against the crack down as well as a wave of

12:15 pm
that these two individuals were able to flip through somehow and manage to get through the checkpoints. is there any information you can share with us about where this investigation is going at this point? >> very safe, overall, but you cannot protect 24/7 everybody. when terrorists want to attack you, they will be able to do it in new york, in boston, and also unfortunately in tel aviv. usually we go and we look where they come from. we look about incitement, the culture of hate. that is the main issue. you can stop them all if you deal where the core issue of terrorism. not by putting more blocks or putting more guards. you need to go to the mosques, you need to go to the schools where they teach hatred and violence. >> impact do you think restricting the travel documents going back and forth between the palestinian side and tel aviv is going to have at the moment because there's a backlash about this from the palestinian side saying that this is an over reaction but the israeli government. how do you respond to that? >> a few days before that we

a war of words erupting between mitt romney and donald trump over the current presumptive gop nominee's comments on race. here's former governor romney. >> i simply can't put my name down as someone who voted for principles that suggest racism or misogyny, bigotry, who has been vulgar time and time again. >> and then donald trump waste nothing time hitting back on twitter. writing, quote, mitt romney had his chance to be the failed president but he choked like a dog. now he calls me racist, but i am the least racist person there is. joining us now monica crow by, editor for the washington times and wonderful fox news contributor. >> hi. >> here we have romney under a big spotlight, talking about his disgust of donald trump. what impact is that going to have on this race? >> i am a firm believer that if you don't have nothing nice to say about somebody you should not say anything at all.
12:32 pm
the republican party has the nominee. donald trump is not going anywhere. everybody already knows that governor romney has serious problems as donald trump as a candidate. he made that crystal clear when he gave a major speech denouncing donald trump. governor romney is already on the record with his opposition to him. reiterating his opposition, using words like racist, misogyny that simply plays in the hillary clinton's campaign and the left and the democratic party is totally counterproductive. i found what he said in the last couple days to be irresponsible and frankly makes him look quite small. >> what about those who might say if you don't feel that you can be authentic, supporting the nominee, why shouldn't you go out publicly and discuss your feelings about that person? >> well, if like governor romney, you are authentically opposed to him, if your conscious is bothering you about
12:33 pm
donald trump, that's fine, that's between you and your conscience, okay? do not go out in public, especially if you are a prominent republican like governor romney because, again, it on the feeds the other side. now, if governor romney said, i oppose donald trump, i find hillary clinton more palatable and i intend to vote for her, that would be a different ball game. but he has said, no, i oppose mrs. clinton also. those comments only feet into her hands and play into her campaign. why would you continue to give the opposition ammunition. if you have these issues with donald trump express them to him privately, if necessary, if you really feel like you got to get it off your chest. otherwise, zip it. >> and i think for those who do remember when mitt romney was the nominee, he was out there seeking donald trump's support and his money. >> that's right. he sought his endorsement and he took major campaign contributions from him. so i think, look -- >> doesn't that go against his authenticity then? >> yeah, and creates governor
12:34 pm
romney romney's. he had two shots at the republican nomination and the presidency and he blew both of those shots and now you have a hypocrisy problem because he had no problem taking donald trump's money when it mattered to him. now he's got all of these issues with donald trump, please. >> let's talk for a moment, also, about the temperament factor a lot of people have been talking about, particularly with the fox news poll poll that just came out. when it comes to the temperament issue people go -- they trust mrs. clinton more man mr. trump. how do you read that? >> it's interesting those numbers mirror each other. they're in mirror reverse. look, i think donald trump was able to get the republican nomination because of the kind of raw authenticity he showed on the campaign trail during the primary season. people like that he was who he is, that he told it like it is, that he was willing to say politically incorrect things because i think a lot of voters at least on the republican side and a lot of independents feel that the country is really
12:35 pm
losing itself and that the window of opportunity to save america is sliding away. but now we're in a different ball game. now this is the general election campaign. you're trying to reach other people. and i think rather than just giving the base supporters hope, which is what he did during the primaries, now he's got to reassure the vast majority of other voters who are going to be voting in november. so he's already delivered the hope. people know what he's capable of doing. they already know who he is. >> right. >> so now i think the challenge for donald trump is to take it down a notch or do. he can pepper his appearances with the old donald trump, which is what he really is, but i think he owes the american voters now a window into how he would behave and act and govern as president of the united states. >> i have just a few seconds left. on the other side, clinton, the trut worthiness factor in our poll shows that a lot of folks still have a problem with her trustworthiness. >> mirror images.
12:36 pm
both candidates have their challenges. mrs. clinton's challenge is that she's been on the national scene for about 30 years. her honesty and trustworthy, integrity numbers which have never been good is now nearly a rock bottom because of clinton scandals and e-mail server, the fbi investigation and so on, so for her to recover those numbers i think is more difficult for her to dothan donald trump turning the temperament numbers around. i think she's got her work cut out for her in a way that may not be sure mountable, where i think donald trump can turn this around in time. >> fascinating indeed to be sure. monica, great to have you onboard. thank you for being here. >> you bet. >> appreciate it. and now we want to hear from you. do you think mitt romney's rant against donald trump makes it more challenging to unify the party? you can tweet me at umapemmaraju. we'll get to your responses later on in the show. now take you to moon township, pennsylvania. that is just outside pittsburgh
