because i have such a diverse media diet i was reading the san diego "union union tribune" and the headline grabbed me. we are constructing our own intellectual ghettos, it said. why would we do that? it contrasted two news consumers one watches rachel maddow and the other prefers stewart barney. in a simpler time we might have gathered at a common television hearth to watch walter kronkite delivering the news. of course the mainstream media would like to return to that time where they would consume whatever they are dishing out. that time is gone and good rid rid -- riddance. america dined on him nightly and they had no choice. now we do.
