>> it will come back and bite you in the bum. >> we start with an extreme weather alert, dangerous heat wave. more nan 40 million people are at risk. >> that extreme heat could be life threatening officials say. they're warning people to stay hydrated and inside if they can. >> rick is here with the forecast on all of this and more. hey, rick. >> good morning, guys. incredible heat across the southwest this weekend. in fact, potentially breaking all-time heat records. when you think of how hot it gets in phoenix that says a lot. here's what you're waking up to. let's see, it is 4:00 a.m. in phoenix and you're 88 degrees. you get a sense of that and today going up to incredibly high temperatures. precipitation wise not that bad. we'll see some more rain across parts of florida, severe storms across far northern areas of north dakota. but nothing that's all that bad precipitation wise. high pressure is moving in. phoenix, 120. 120. that's incredibly hot. 116 in tucson. 94 in flagstaff. all of those cities are

potentially going to be breaking all time records. the highest temp ever in phoenix was 122. i lived there at that time. that was a big deal. you think, hey, it gets across hot across the southwest. you're used to 108, 112, 120 is a different ballpark, it's a dangerous time. it cools down a bit midweek, but overall the pattern is going to keep temperatures well above average. 92 in fargo, 93 in kansas city. 91 in chicago. you get the idea it is really hot. the heat is the story really for probably the next couple of weeks. 101 in kansas city. and going to thursday and we're 100 in little rock. it's hot. summer is here. it officially starts tomorrow. but we'll get a jump start on it. >> summer solstice. >> that's it. >> we have a picture of your dad to share. >> there he is. a new york yankees fan. >> that is it.

>> well, the one that should be obvious to you likely ted cruz, dozens of republican delegates are planning to block trump and many supported senator cruz. disturbing video of a disney employee fighting off an alligator just feet from a tourist at a popular water park ride. the video from 2009 shows the agitated alligator lurking in the water. alligators not an uncommon site near the ride where tourists sometimes feed them. just days ago, 2-year-old lane graves died after being dragged in that same lagoon by an alligator while he was wading in the shallow waters. hillary clinton becomes a grand mother again. chelsea clinton giving birth to her second child. she and her husband welcomed their baby boy named aidan at manhattan's lennox hospital.

she tweeted that they're overwhelmed with gratitude and love. meanwhile, bill and hillary clinton said in a joint statement they were overjoyed to be grandparents again, adding that chelsea and aidan are both doing well and are enjoying this very special time together. those are your headlines. well, a city is saying good-bye to family and friends coming together to lay -- to lay the victims of the orlando massacre to rest. >> this is all happening as we're getting brand-new details about the shooter omar mateen's very troubled past. >> peter doocy is live in orlando with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anna and there's a new survivor account that shed some new light on to the way omar mateen, the terrorist, was moving around pulse nightclub a little bit more than one week ago. feli feli felipe marrero said that he would lie among his victims so

the police couldn't see him. there are many stories and records chronicling mateen's very troubd past. they go all the way back to grade school and the alarming police take by his employer, gs 4 formerly known as whacken hunt, who received a psychological evaluation from a doctor who never saw him. the doctor said, quote, i know in september of 2007 i was not living or working in florida. i was not performing any work for whacken hunt an i did not -- and i did not administer an evaltdiation of mateen. last year, at the soccer game, at 49 minutes a moment of silence was observed. and then church bells rang downtown 49 times.

funerals here in orlando and elsewhere continue today. protesters from the westboro baptist church did show up, but they were kept far away from the services and out of view of mourners. they quickly left town. there are still 19 victims in the hospital. three of them right now in critical condition. back to you in new york. >> peter doocy, thanks a lot for that. all right, back in washington, democrats are full speed ahead on gun control. there's a vote in the senate on monday. the nra is fight back. loretta lynch the attorney general is on all five sunday shows this week. how many people have done that and she's expected to be pushing for gun control. the question is what exactly is she going to be pushing for? universal background checks, they want keep on the no fly list to stop getting weapons. let me say, there's no social science to suggest any of those measures would reduce killing. >> well, some of the critics are saying she's going on all five

sunday show, which is something not done very often, in an effort to take the eye off the ball of radical make terror and put the eye on the ball of the gun control. >> the president did it in the wake of this attack -- didn't talk about the gun control, but then he got fired up and talked about the assault weapons ban again. the ban that expired in 2004, this push to bring that back. there are four proposals that will be two from democrats, two from republicans. so two of these four senate proposals we should be specific would allow the government to prevent terror suspects from buying guns, expand the background checks to include online and gun show purchases. two appropriate koproposals tha individual from buying a gun and requiring the law enforcement agencies to be notified. >> here's the president this morning. watch this. >> being tough on terrorism, particularly the sorts of home

grown terrorism that we have seen now in orlando and san bernardino means making it harder for people who want to kill americans to get their hands on assault weapons that are capable of killing dozens of innocents as quickly as possible. >> and the nra says this isn't the answer, defending the second amendment and they said that the families have the right to protect themselves. >> we need to get these weapons of war off the streets. >> well, these are weapons of war. >> stop making it easy as possible for terrorists to buy assault weapons. >> let me say something to every political hack pretending you know an ar-15 from the double barrelled shotgun in the wake of the orlando terror attack. stop talking. every word not only exposes your ignorance, but your utter contempt for ordinary americans trying to survive in an age of terror you still won't fully recognize. >> here's a question that everybody pushing for the ludicrous measures.

>> so she goes on there to talk about the victims and anderson cooper has an ax to grind? >> well, there's something bizarre about if you don't support redefining marriage or don't support how the supreme court did as opposed to letting the people vote that somehow the deaths of your fellow americans who happen to be gay doesn't matter to you. that is -- think about how twisted that is. i mean, imagine if there was a massacre at westboro baptist church where they hold the terrible signs up about gay people, do you think someone would look at cooper and said, you hate the gay people, why are you complaining about it? it's fellow human beings, that's enough to mourn. >> and a cbs producer is under investigation for this ar-15 stunt. >> we sent to the cbs news producer into a gun store outi'd is of washington, d.c. >> i would like to buy an ar-15. >> as for the rifle we legally purchased it was transferred to the firearms dealer and weapons

instructor in virginia following state law within hours of us purchasing the weapon. >> now, of course the store, michael, is accusing the cbs news of potentially committing a felony here by trying to boost their ratings. what do you make of this story? >> well, i mean, the legal issue are you committing a straw purchase technically violating the law? i love that attitude of, i went into the store with no criminal violations and passed the federal background checks. they sold me a gun. i mean, yeah, welcome to america. hello. you know, people like my lovely bride who's a nice jewish girl from the northeastern suburbs this might surprise her. i grew up in rural north carolina, of course i know they sell you guns. of course they sell them to you, what, you think they allow you to come in and pet them? this is a real problem, it's not guns or lgbt it's isis. and the media don't want to talk about this for all sorts of political reasons.

with 54% of those who identify as gay versus 18% who back trump. who is right on this question? here to discuss is the president of the log cabin republicans and our friend ellen ratner. ellen, first to you, trump has a good point, doesn't he? on one hand, you have him, pretty liberal on gay questions. certainly for a republican, he's very liberal actually. then you have isis who is murdering people for being gay. the gay groups, organized ones, seem to dislike trump more than isis. what is that? >> well, i don't know that they dislike trump more than they dislike isis, but i will tell you this. first of all, donald trump did give an interview to the advocate, the gay publication in the year 2000. he talked about adding gay folks to the civil rights act. on the other hand, he goes after hillary clinton for accepting money from the saudis, et cetera. where it is a crime. however, he also has his trump

towers, or trump various things in places like jetta. both are not great on that issue. >> i have to say, gregory, i mean, taking money from saudi arabia and qatar, a bunch of countries where homosexuality is punishable by death would be disqualifying in the real world. >> yeah. the speech was historic because he became the first republican presumptive nominee for president to not only reference the lgbt community, but make a direct appeal to the lgbt community. that took political courage. he didn't need to make that speech on monday and he didn't need to address the lgbt community. the horrible terrorist attacks on the pulse nightclub were against the lgbt community,

donald trump confronted that fact and embraced the lgbt community. that took political courage. what -- it did not take political courage for hillary clinton to reference that. what would take political courage for her is to return the donations from the countries that not have a good record on human rights, including lgbt rights. >> ellen, there's a weird psychology on the left. so the president lets in a million people from those with medieval attitudes, but the human rights campaign, et cetera, act like it's conservative republicans who are the existential threat to gay people. like is that a misplaced emphasis? >> let's face it, donald trump did also said -- he said he would appoint judges who are against gay marriage. look, i don't think -- >> i don't think quite -- >> neither are great about it. >> we didn't have gay marriages in the law of the land until 20 minutes ago. to compare gay marriage to the belief you should murder gays

they're not even comparable. we can debate gay marriage -- >> no, they're not comparable. >> we can't debate whether gays should be murdered. that's off the charts, no? >> i do think that's off the chart but we're talking about an election and who should be the president of the united states and that is a much broader consideration including gay marriage. >> so gregory, do you think the attack in orlando last sunday will begin to awaken gay voters that actually this is a threat? this foreign ideology and this makes it a threat to us? >> it could and in addition to things like marriage and employment protections for lgbt individual, it's important to point out that the radical attacks in orlando by the radical islamist raised the idea of national security z an lgbt issue. i think this week you have members of the lgbt community who might not have considered national security as an lgbt issue who might not have considered second amendment

who is like the cheerio champion at this hour? >> we have a bunch of people that had 16 of them stacked up. >> whoa. >> i think the most -- the tallest i saw that looked legitimate was 20. we had other things that were definitely -- there must have been a string down the middle or something like that. but that -- there were stacks of 36, things like that. >> oh, yeah. >> i think 16 to 20 seems to be the really the pinnacle of stacking cheerios on your children. >> is it just cheerios or can you do fruit loops or cookie crisp or even pancakes? >> somebody did stack pancakes. people really got creative with it and started to stack -- pretty much anything they had. one little girl had cans stacked on her head. somebody stacked a dozen doughnuts on their sleeping daughter's head. >> incredible. this is baby jinga.

these kids wake you know in themiddle of the night so this is a gentle way to get back at them. >> could be. they may look back and wonder what the heck we were doing. >> daddy drinks because you cry. >> then it would be 1 for 1. >> yeah. have you had anybody on social media say oh, this is badparent you're exploiting your children or -- >> of course. >> this is the internet. >> of course. yeah. we have a pretty big audience so we have people from all walks of life and we have gotten a few people wondering about the safety, what if it falls in their mouth and they choke? that kind of stuff. but for the most part i would say it's 99% overwhelmingly positive where people are just completely amused by it and they want to get in on the action and try to beat the 16 or 20 stack.

are charleston." thank you for joining us on "fox & friends." >> thank you for having us. >> tell us how the church is doing a year later and the overwhelming supporter of -- support of the community on this one-year anniversary? >> well, there's events every day that the church and the city are holding for the congregation and the community and the church has a new minister, reverend clark, who's really making an overt effort to focus on healing and i think it's been a very difficult year, obviously. it will never be the same at the church. not only is there dealing with the congregation and ministering to them, but it's really become a sort of shrine. and dealing with all of that attention as well. >> and professor powers, you know, when this crime happened

and this young, white man came in and he killed nine people because of the color of their skin was the reasoning, and then the church came forward and they said, we'll offer forgiveness. we're not going to hold harsh feelings. a lot of people couldn't understand. people of faith were going, how can you just forgive so easily? you say it goes back to the history of that church along with their faith. what is the history of that church? >> well, sure. well, that congregation really dates all the way back to the beginning of the 19th century when the ame church was established. the denomination was founded by richard allen, a man who had -- he was born as a slave but managed to purchase his freedom. but he was even after having become free, he was accused of still being a slave. and his white accuser was found to be lying and was jailed.

richard allen though intervened and had the man released early. in other words, he forgave him. and so forgiveness is really deeply embedded in the traditions of the church. of course, we would expect anyone who professes to be a christian to emulate the teachings of jesus christ. so forgiveness is a crucial element of experience of christianity and african methodism in particular. but it's a complicated phenomena in the sense that one could maintain animosity toward one's oppressors, but that would only harm the individual who had been hurt. >> exactly. professor, i think it shows how quickly they were able to do. bernard powers and marjorie went

night, players for orlando city and san jose stopped play in the 49th minute for moment of silence and they left 49 seats in the stands empty. doctors from orlando regional medical center were honored on field before the game started and their hospital is still treating 19 victims. one patient is quoted as saying he remembers omar mateen laying amongst his victims last week so the police could not see him. there was a new abc report saying his father and wife have been added to the no-fly list as investigators try to figure out if anybody helped the terrorist on his way here to pulse. back to you. >> thanks, peter. well, he fought for his country carrying a rooil and he's fighting to care those rifles off those streets. he wrote an op ed calling for

the ban on assault rifles. he said i carry guns every day in iraq, guns used very similar to the ones used to perpetrate the orlando murders. there's no reason for a civilian to own a military style assault weapon. here to tell us about his stance is the author of that op ed is a former marine and congressman. >> you are quoted as no civilian owns that gun. no civilian doesn't own that gun. but the civilian version of it is ar-15 is common. there are 9 million in circulation. why should i not be allowed to use an ar 15 to protect my family? >> actually, the particular m 4 pictured was a semiautomatic weapon but the reality is that we have reasonable restrictions

on all amendments to the constitution, including the second amendment. i carried grenades in iraq too. i feel safe with grenades. i feel like i could carry one safely in our community but we as our country have decided that's not safe and nine out of ten americans agree with me that we ought to have reasonable restrictions. >> before we get to poll numbers, i want to steer you back to my question is why shouldn't i, specifically, me, have the right to protect my family with an ar-15? tell me why i shouldn't have that right. >> the reason is that we have reasonable restrictions to prevent casualties like you saw in orlando. the reason why we don't allow land mines, you could say why couldn't i have a land mine to protect my family, why shouldn't i have grenades to protect my family. >> that's not what i'm saying. there are 9 million of these rifles in circulation. we haven't had a ban on them in 12 years and the crime rate hasn't gone up in that time. i do protect my family with that

gun and i'm asking you why -- >> the number of mass shootings has gone up in that time. the great example is australia had a terrible mass shooting two decades ago. they cracked down on guns and there hasn't been a mass shooting since. what we need to do is keep weapons of war out of the hands of potential terrorists and that's what i'm talking about, and a lot of republicans agree with me. i'm talking with republicans. i'm working with republicans on the hill to talk to -- to figure out a way that we can have reasonable restrictions. i'm not talking about taking away the second amendment. >> but you are talking about taking away the means i used to protect my family and you also haven't explained why my possession of that gun is a threat to you or anyone else. why don't you describe since you are a lawmakers, in specific terms, a law that would have prevented orlando and san bernardino have happening? >> a law that would have prevented it was that crazy man

couldn't have gone to a gun shop and lawfully purchased a weapon of war and enabled him to take 49 lives. >> he passed two security background checks. >> nine out of ten americans think we should have have -- [ both people speaking at the same time ] >> i'm asking you a very specific policy question. i'm asking you as the man writing the laws. >> i'm talking about the american people think. my job is to represent the american people. right after the shooting, i tweeted like every other lawmaker, i tweeted out my thoughts and prayers. people tweeted back at me, thoughts and prayers aren't enough. we need to take action. that's what i'm trying to do

erecting large fences there? are park guests are in danger? >> i don't think anyone is in immediate danger at disney world regarding alligators. these are very rare events. they primarily target small mammals, birds, fish, turtles, things like that. a lot of gators that we're seeing are small animals. when they discover a large potentially dangerous animal it's removed almost immediately. >> and as you point out, more people are killed by choking on the turkey legs that they can eat at disney world than they are going to be attack by a gator, right? >> well, you know, here's the thing, you can't live your life in fear. you have to be reasonable as you move forward. clearly, if you are in the wilderness exploring florida, chances are if there's a body of fresh water there may have been a gator in there at some point. you have to be reasonably

that. when they called me and told me that chad was the donor, i protect down in tears. i couldn't imagine the sacrifice that he was making in saving my life, but i mean he's changing the lives of my family and my friends and my colleagues. >> unbelievable. chad, what was your relationship like when you were on the football field decades ago? >> you know, we were teammates. i certainly knew steve, but we ran in different circles. he's a year younger than me, and in school that can be quite a bit, especially in high school, so i knew of steve. he and my sister are the same age. always thought really highly of him but beyond that, short of being teammates that was about it. >> and i can't even believe it. not even a family member. haven't spoken in decades and you weren't even best friends. how were you feeling? what was the process like for you? >> i feel like a million bucks. the process was awesome. when steve first indicated that

lunacy of some islamic fanatic? >> he may have already been the presumptive nominee but donald trump still taking swipes at some of his old rivals. >> blasting lawmakers who haven't endorsed him yet, some of which may be plotting against him. >> they definitely are. live in d.c. with the latest on this story. >> donald trump is not feeling the love from many republican officials and he does not like that. we reported this week how there's a new effort under way to stop trump from becoming the party's nominee. from a group of delegates who want to change the rules at the national convention and allow delegates to vote for whoever they want on the first ballot rather than donald trump. at a rally in las vegas yesterday, the presumptive nominee initially dismissed those reports, calling them made up, but then went on to suggest a pair of his former rivals, jeb bush and ted cruz, were actually the ones behind that effort and plotting against him.

you have lakes surrounding disney. in the county. these animals can swim, walk on highways, i've seen gators on an asphalt road. the gators can outrun anybody. >> we have this idea it's a sanitized experience. we've built a massive theme park on a swamp in orlando and this is their territory, right? >> right, it's their territory. whether they were building anywhere else and there's lakes around them, they'll go across dry land as well. people are building subdivisions, they know there are gators there. that's what people are interested in. i live near a glacier, near glacier national park. when you enter, it says, beware of bears. i live about 40 mile also away, a little place on the lake there. two weeks ago, someone staying in one of the cabins there said, we've never seen a bear but now it's going up the steps.

i said, get in the house then. they said, we thought we'd film it. i thought it was a black lab. 20 minutes from glacier. the bear goes by. yes, signs are important. where would you put a sign every other 15 feet? i know for a fact -- i don't know this, but accord to what this news is, some of the guests were feeding the gators. i encourage anyone, whether you come to disney or any park anywhere, do not feed the animals. they relate back to food the person. they're not after the person. they relate it to food. >> an example you gave, it seems silly that somebody would say, oh, i thought i would film this bear rather than go inside my house. there are a lot people out there that might have the same inclination. disney, there are a lot of people that are not from florida. they don't know the threat from alligators. so is disney doing enough to take the big ones out and put the signs up and anything else that you can think, are they doing enough? have they done enough? >> i think they did everything they could. after 40 years of however long

happy father's day. >> you're going to be tackling a couple of key issues on your show today. one of the things obviously unfolding tomorrow in the senate or this week is gun control and the push for legislation. four different measures to be voted on. what do you think is going to happen? >> it's been a scrap bell to come up with a new -- a new round of debate because of orlando. i think that that pressure and also the suggestion last week by donald trump that he is willing and thinks he can work with the gun lobbyists. i think it's going to have a hard time passing. because obviously we have not had any substantial gun control measures in decades because the speculation is that it impacts people's rights and it is under the constitution that you have a right to bear arms. so you keep getting in the way of people's rights. part of this push to push back on background checks and things is because people do not trust this government frankly.

>> we see sometimes when americans feel like their second amendment rights are vulnerable and when they quite frankly feel vulnerable following terror attacks, we see gun sales actually go up. is that something you've seen? >> yes, gun stocks have gone up. background checks have soared over the last year. background checks, you look at that. because that's what happens when somebody wants to buy a gun. you've got a background check. i think that at this point people are worried that their rights are going to be taken away. so they're rushing to buy guns right now. >> what's so interesting is you're seeing the republican nominee argue that the government ought to have a right to take your second amendment right away without finding you guilty a crime. >> that's right. >> without due process. >> it's quite extraordinary. >> you would think the aclu would be against that as they're famously for due process and for the constitution. >> yeah, you would think so, because it is impacting people's rights. look, i think after the orlando massacre, this becomes, you know, topic a again.

frankly, we risk missing the point and missing terrorism. >> right. >> and not -- this is really not about gun control or orlando. this is about people who are trying to sympathize with terrorists. >> obviously, you follow international policy very closely. one of the things you'll tackle, will britain exit the european union. >> yes. >> front cover of magazines all over the world. what do you expect to happen? >>, you know, we've got a member of the eu parliament coming on the show this morning to talk about why he says they should stay. now, look, i think at the end of the day, you know, people are feeling like they don't want to be part of the eu umbrella. they don't like the open borders policy of european. that's one major issue. i think before the murder last week of joe cocks, i would have said they're leaving. but amazingly the polls reversed course after the murder and now the majority is in the remain camp.
