tv   Americas Election HQ  FOX News  June 26, 2016 1:00pm-2:01pm PDT

1:00 pm
i think clinton will overcome this one, too, but i'll be watching. >> it will be a close call. remember, if you have your own hit or miss, tweet it to us. that's it for this week's show. thanks to my panel and all of you for watching. hope to see you right here next week. welcome to america's election headquarters. >> i'm arthel neville. topping news this hour, donald trump and hillary clinton going at it over brexit. hitting each other over how they responded to the vote. this as newly released polls show where the presumptive nominees stand with voters. >> and a grim announcement in california. officials there warn the death toll from the devastating wildfire could get even worse. we will have the latest. >> also, new financial fallout over the brexit vote. as we monitor the opening of
1:01 pm
european and asian markets after a very volatile weekend. first, we start with the presidential race. donald trump fresh off the plane from scotland is ripping into hillary clinton on the british vote to leave the european union. mr. trump tweeted that she made the wrong call on brexit, while claiming he got it right all along. and he's comparing the populist anger over there with the driving force of his own campaign here. will it help him shore up the uncertain support within his own party? and appeal to voters in the general election? kristin fisher is watching the republicans in our washington bureau. hi, kristin. >> hey, eric. this morning, donald trump's campaign chairman paul manafort did his best to reassure that trump is ready for a general election fight. he said the campaign is fully integrated with the republican national committee and the two
1:02 pm
entities are working around the clock to hire staffers in 16 key states. >> we have state organizations that are in place. we have our campaign plans in place. we have our budgets in place. and the good thing is we have a candidate who doesn't need to figure out what's going on in order to say what he wants to do. so our campaign is organized. we're going to have a good convention. >> in that same interview, manafort also said that the trump campaign is "getting organized." the fact that it's not fully organized with just three weeks until the convention has other top republicans very concerned. today, mitch mcconnell said there's no way trump will win the white house unless he can catch up to clinton's massive fundraising advantage. >> there's a lot of work to be done to turn the campaign in a different direction, and one of those obviously flaws at the moment is cash on hand. he needs to catch up and catch up fast. >> he also needs to start catching up to her in the polls. a new poll out just this morning
1:03 pm
shows clinton ahead by five points, 46-41. another poll had her ahead by 12 points. but trump continues to be very competitive in key battleground states, states like ohio and pennsylvania. manafort says that they'll announce major staffing decisions at both the state and national level sometime this week. eric and arthel. >> thanks so much. as donald trump considers potential running mates, a name that keeps popping up the past few weeks is newt gingrich. but the former house speaker insists that nobody has called him from the campaign, and he apparently is not being vetted for the post, at least as of right now. on fox news sunday this morning, mr. gingrich told chris wallace he wouldn't require much vetting anyway, and he said he would consider in the past, he said he would consider being the vice president under the right circumstances. but says as of right now, he has not heard a peep from the trump campaign. >> are you being vetted? >> no. >> you have not submitted any information? >> no. nobody's called me, nobody's
1:04 pm
said would you like to be, nobody's said would you be willing to be considered? nobody has said anything. >> the call may not have come yet, but you can see what happens. you can catch the full interview with the rm former speaker. now to the democratic side of this race, hillary clinton blitzing the airwaves with a pair of new campaign ads before hitting the campaign trail today. clinton marching in new york city's pride parade. right now, clinton is set to speak at the national conference of mayors in indianapolis. senior political correspondent mike emanuel is there for us live. hi, mike. >> hi, arthel. we expect hillary clinton will react to that brexit vote. we'll talk about wanting to partner with the nation's mayors. and will continue to sell her economic message. we expect hillary clinton to speak to the nation's mayors of cities larger than 30,000 later this hour. already today, this group has heard from the dalai lama and from lady gaga, and soon the
1:05 pm
presumptive democratic nominee. the clinton campaign manager took aim at donald trump's economic plans. >> his ideas are a fundamental threat to our economy. he's talked about defaulting on the national debt. called himself the king of debt. independent economists say he would plunge us into an economic ice age. >> a new poll has clinton with a 12 point lead over donald trump. last month, trump had a two-point edge in that very same poll. then there's bernie sanders. still technically a candidate, but the race is over, and he's not ready to endorse her. >> if she does the right thing, i am absolutely confident that the vast majority of my supporters will vote for her. >> part of these awkward series of media appearances for bernie sanders. first saying he's probably not going to be the democratic nominee. then he's probably going to vote for her. now he's not ready to endorse
1:06 pm
her. arthel? >> we will keep watching as things change day-to-day. mike emanuel, thank you. global markets are plummeting. >> every president is tested by world events. but donald trump thinks about how his golf resort can profit from them. >> when the pound goes down, many people are coming to turnbury. >> that's hillary clinton's new campaign ad hitting donald trump, criticizing the way he responded to the uk vote to leave the eu. as you saw, the ad slamming mr. trump for his comments about how the brexit vote could benefit his golf resort in scotland because the pound would lose value to the dollar. she has only issued a written statement on the brexit issue. we are waiting for her to address this when she appears momentarily in indianapolis. but for now, here is clinton's campaign manager robbie mook. >> i think voters were taking stock of how both candidates responded to the situation. hillary clinton came out very
1:07 pm
quickly, obviously said that the voters had spoken, but said that we need to make sure that middle class family savings, hard-earned savings aren't affected by what happens in complete contrast, donald trump went out, talked about his golf course. >> so, how will this all impact the campaign? our representative, the house deputy whip and has endorsed hillary clinton for president. welcome this afternoon to the fox news channel. first question. >> great to be with you, eric. >> of course. look, the vote did not go mrs. clinton's way, or president obama's. how do you think that will impact voters here? >> the thing that voters here are really concerned about is their pensions, what happens with the u.s. markets, and what happens with the world economy. and so hillary clinton is going to be sure to be working with the leaders in great britain, and also the leaders in europe. to help stabilize that economy, because it will have an impact on middle class americans here. and that's what she's very
1:08 pm
concerned about. >> but in a way, that sounds like exactly what the british voters revolted against. i mean, they're concerned about the economy, the working class, the middle class especially. because of the immigration. because of the economic conditions. because of their view of giving up their sovereignty of their nation to the eu and the eu regulations. so doesn't that cut against exactly what mrs. clinton represents? >> you know, obviously, we have to respect the vote of the british voters, given their situation in the eu and what they saw that as. what we have to do here in the united states is think about how this is going to impact our economy. as we saw right after the vote in europe, the u.s. stock market plunged over 600 points. so what we have to do right now is work with world leaders. obviously, britain is going to be leaving the eu. so we need to work with britain and the eu to make sure we can help stabilize those economies. hillary clinton is well-positioned to do that.
1:09 pm
she knows all the european leaders. and she knows the leaders of both major parties in britain. she can work with them to do that. contrast that to donald trump, who was out on his golf course talking about how the plunging pound is going to improve his business. that's really not what we need to be thinking about for average american. >> mr. trump claims he knew how to deal with this because he's a businessman and he says he got it right, and then mrs. clinton got it wrong. >> mr. trump says he's the king of debt. and as all the major economists have said, if you double down on defaulting on your debt, you know, the united states is not a corporation. it's a major -- the number one economy in the world. if we start defaulting on our debt, we're going to create a major, major collapse all around the world. that's simply not a responsible thing for donald trump to be saying. >> are you concerned, though, that there's been this anti-establishment populist wave, both there and here in our
1:10 pm
country? we see it with the support for donald trump, we see it for that massive support from senator bernie sanders, you know, who's staying in, even though the math is against him with the delegate count. are you concerned going forward that that populist support could coalesce? >> i think bernie sanders is fighting for the middle class, and they share many of the same values. i think that as we go forward, the voters will see this in the united states. obviously our situation here with the recovering economy since '08, with what's happening here, what we really need to do is bolster up the middle class here. i don't think it's the same as what britain was dealing with the eu issues and the issues that britain itself was. and also, we need to think the united states is a much more diverse country in every way.
1:11 pm
so i think the democrats and i think that the independent voters will coalesce together around mrs. clinton's candidacy. you see that in the new polls that have just come out today. >> you also see one poll, a certain poll about the sanders supporters. this 22% are going to vote for donald trump and 18% libertarian candidate gary johnson. do you think, as you say, that the disaffected sanders voters can or will coalesce behind mrs. clinton, especially when you have a poll like that? it shows that half won't. >> i do think that the great majority of the sanders supporters will come around to hillary because their issues really are how are we going to bolster the middle class, how are we going to reduce that gap between the very wealthiest americans and average american families. how are we going to make sure we preserve our environment, how are we going to have real campaign finance reform. these are values that all democrats share. i know the sanders supporters
1:12 pm
are disappointed. in 2008, when i was a hillary supporter, i was disappointed when president obama won the delegate count. but ultimately, i think the vast majority of the bernie supporters will come around to hillary's camp because we have shared values. >> a few more weeks until the convention and see what the senator does, if indeed he makes that official. thank you for joining us this morning. >> great being with you, thanks. >> absolutely. meanwhile, the fight over brexit may be far from over in the united kingdom. the leader of scotland now considering a plan to block britain from leaving the european union by advising the scottish parliament not to give legislative consent to the brexit. >> the scottish parliament was judging this on the basis of what's right for scotland, then the option of saying that we're not going to vote for something that is against scotland's interests, of course that's got to be on the table. >> let's go to benjamin hall
1:13 pm
who's live in london with more. what's the latest there? >> hi, arthel. still k still chaos going on amongst the political classes. what's becoming clear is they don't know how to go forward on this. there were clearly no plans in place for what happens next. in scotland, as you were just hearing, particular anger. they voted overwhelmingly as a region to stay inside the eu. is a they're now furious at the outcome. they're threatening to even push for scottish independence. today also, secretary kerry arrived in europe ahead of emergency talks he's going to have next week with british and european voters, seeking to ease tension in the wake of the vote. >> the most important thing is that all of us as leaders work together to provide as much continuity, as much stability, as much certainty as possible in order for the marketplace to
1:14 pm
understand that there are ways to minimize disruption. >> and the disruption he was talking about was reflected in financial markets around the globe. we have seen it hit hard. the pound slumping to its lowest level since 1985, and the naz and the dow also plummeting. it will be tomorrow's opening bells which will be watched very closely. and here, there's a petition calling for a second eu referendum and it's received almost 3.5 million votes and counting. but bearing in mind that the leave count received over 17 million, it's thought that won't have an impact. what will have an impact is who will be the next prime minister, and of course, that race is just starting. that is the person who will take the uk through this process of negotiation with europe, and so we're going to find out in the next few days who throws their ring into the hat, into the middle of the square. but we're expecting boris johnson to be at the leaderboard there. so wait and see that announcement coming up soon. >> we are all waiting with baited breath. thank you so much. meanwhile, asian markets are preparing for what could be a
1:15 pm
rough open to the trading week. we will have more of the financial fallout from the brexit vote later in the hour and what it means for your bottom line. back here at home out west, there's a lot of extreme weather. that wildfire in central california burning through almost 60 square miles so far. leaving entire communities in devastation, and it has killed an elderly couple. but now they say there's a bit of a break for the firefighters. less intense winds are helping them start to try and set up a perimeter around those flames, but there are still lots of concerns. will carr is live with us from lake isabella, california, on the very latest. hi, will. >> reporter: as the day has gone on, the disaster numbers continue to go up. we just found out that at least 200 homes burned in this fire. homes just like the one next to me. to give you an example, take a live look of the street that we're on right now. street after street, home after home burned to the ground. at least a ten-block radius
1:16 pm
around here. one resident told me it simply looks like a bomb went off in her neighborhood. and this isn't the only issue right now. authorities are struggling to find potential victims. on friday, they found two bodies. on saturday, they found remains that were burned. they're trying to identify if they were human. today, they're now walking through these neighborhoods with cadaver dogs, trying to find out if there are more bodies. >> this is not anything we'll be able to accomplish in a day. we're going to have to go property to property and search each property. as you can see, this is just one area affected and look how many properties there are. they'll have to be inspected individually. we have to have personnel to do that, but we're stretched thin. >> those are the issues going on on the streets. it's burned 37,000 acres. and the weather, as you mentioned, the winds not as strong today as they have been in the past couple of days, but it's still very hot. it's going to be 103 degrees,
1:17 pm
and, of course, it's bone dry in this part of california. eric? >> all right, it's really tough for the folks there and very sad. thanks so much. arthel? we have a fox news alert right now. reports of multiple people stabbed when counterprotesters clashed with demonstrators at a neo-nazi rally outside the c capitol building in sacramento, california. five people have been transported to area hospitals. the neo-nazi group had been planning the rally for several weeks and countergroups organized efforts on social media to protest against the rally. joining me now on the phone is chris harvey, the public information officer for the sacramento fire department. chris, do we know how this all started and what's the latest there? >> first of all, i have some updated numbers for you. we've now transported seven patients. some of those do have critical stab wound injuries. our total is seven transported
1:18 pm
area hospitals. >> okay. so meanwhile, what's happening on the scene? >> so i'm still here on scene right now. most of the protesters have dispersed. we had a large contingent of california highway patrol officers as well as sacramento city police department officers in riot gear. we had a large melee that broke out and a number of small eer fights. we transported seven. we had a large number of additional patients with cuts, bruises, scrapes, things like that, that did not require trips to the hospital. but a large number of people were injured in this fight. >> so do we know of any bystanders? were there people not part of the group involved in this melee? also, have there been any arrests? and i'll have a few other questions. >> the last update that i've heard from the sacramento police department is that there have been no arrests made at this time.
1:19 pm
i understand there's a lot of surveillance video. i'm sure they're going to be reviewing that footage, trying to identify some of the folks. >> we reported there was an announcement, if you will, via social media. were you able to, or authorities able to get ahead of this thing, sort of seeing what was brewing on social media? >> i believe law enforcement really was expecting a large turnout. again, i did see a large number of chp officers on horseback. there were a large number of sacramento police officers in riot gear. so i believe that they have officers that monitor the social media feeds, and i think that were well-prepared for this to break out. the capital grounds occupy a very large area, several city blocks. my understanding is that a lot of these folks that ran, and then there were some smaller fights and melees in several different locations within the capital grounds, because our
1:20 pm
crews had to respond to several different locations within the grounds. >> and chris, yes or no, is the immediate area cleared because i've got to go, quickly. >> yes, there's a few small groups of protesters still around, but mostly clear. >> chris harvey of the sacramento fire department, thank you very much for the update there, and we will be right back. steady is exciting. oh this is living baby! only glucerna has carbsteady, to help minimize blood sugar spikes. and try new glucerna hunger smart to help you feel full. mr. brady, we've been expecting you. will you be needing anything else? not a thing. beautyrest black. get your beautyrest. beautyrest black. little miss muffet sat on eating her curds and whey. along came a burglar who broke into her home and ransacked the place making off with several valuable tuffets. fortunately geico had recently helped her with homeowners insurance.

1:24 pm
a brand-new "washington post" abc news poll showing hillary clinton leading donald trump. let's keep in mind it was taken before the brexit vote, but let's take a look. it finds hillary clinton is up 51% to trump's 39%. now, donald trump firing back against the results on twitter, writing, "the abc poll sample is heavy on democrats, very dishonest, why would they do that? other polls good." this morning, trump's new campaign manager says changes are coming soon. >> our campaign, frankly, is getting organized. it's all in words, i guess. but we are fully now integrated with the republican national committee. this week we'll be making major announcements of people who are taking over in major positions in our national campaign as well as in our state campaigns. we're organized in all 16 states that we're going to be targeting as battleground states. we'll be making those
1:25 pm
announcements this week. >> okay, let's talk more now about this with dan clovis, the senior policy adviser for the trump campaign. mr. manafort didn't give us any specifics. do you want to give us specifics about what's to come this week? >> mr. manafort is the campaign manager, we'll let him do the announcing. >> all right, just thought i'd take a stab at it. we'll move on now. what's the state of trump's campaign? is there enough organization in place to pick up votes, to grow poll numbers, and mostly, to impress those deep pocket republican donors who still sit on the fence as to where to plop their money? >> oh, i think so. we're a long ways out from the election. we're still three weeks from the convention. i think there are a lot of these issues that people get all hot and bothered over here early on. and i think what we really ought to do is take a breath, step back a little bit. we've had some internal changes inside the campaign. paul manafort is an extremely capable individual, and he'll --
1:26 pm
his leadership will come forward. we'll be able to move forward on that. we have some great folks in this campaign. already working. and i know that this is a fact. i've been talking to some of them just this last weekend, and getting caught up on some of the other issues, because my portfolio is quite extensive. but one of the things we really wanted to concentrate on was the idea of going into the convention, putting on a good show, giving the people a vision for the future a reason to vote for us. i think that's going to be stark contrast. >> i know that there's going to be changes, so there's been trouble. usually when you have changes, especially of the magnitude that you've had thus far, that means there's trouble. so do you know coming this week if we're going to find out if these changes will involve folks who are on the ground, at the various key states, campaigning door to door? are we talking about someone who can help reorganize trump's
1:27 pm
abilities to collect money and raise money not only for himself, but for the party as a whole? >> i know on the money raising side that we've had an incredible breakthrough here. we've been able to make contact with a lot of people. we have a lot of people coming forward that want to contribute sizable amounts of money to the rnc, and then to the campaign. as you know, the federal election commission limits the individual contributions to the campaign. and so there are also the issues of establishing political action committees and some of the other factors that go on out there so we can fully fund this campaign, and mr. trump has made that commitment now. >> i beg your pardon. we had breaking news, so it truncated our time here. but you mentioned the pacs. is that something that donald trump is supportive of? i didn't know if he was against that, when he said i'll fund it myself. so now is he gradually coming to terms with collecting big money?
1:28 pm
>> don't characterize it that way. that's not appropriate. >> okay. >> the issue is that this is the general election campaign. it's all hands on deck. and this is how we're going to go forward. so whether it's -- it's not a matter of change of course. it's a matter of change of circumstances. and if we're going to be running up against a billion-dollar campaign, we're going to have to raise a lot of money and we'll take the money and apply it wherever it needs to be done. >> fair enough. and do you know if you are going to be making some changes in terms of the financing aspect of your campaign? >> paul manafort is a capable manager, he's a great leader, and he will be able to get this thing brought together. and we're going to be fine. i can tell you for a fact that we are raising a lot of money and it's coming in right now, and i think it will be a shock to people in our next report. >> okay. well, we can't wait to hear that. quickly, if i may, do you think that mr. trump feels confident that the party will coalesce behind him in the next three weeks and move into the convention full-throated support behind him? >> i think that the convention
1:29 pm
is going to be a big deal for us. if we put on a great show, we're going to bring a lot of people in behind us. it's like a snowplow. there's a lot of that that comes forward after this. we'll have a lot falling in behind. i think we're going to be in great shape. and i just want to make one comment about the poll you mentioned. i didn't see an electoral college count with that. so i just remind everybody that until we see an electoral college count, it doesn't matter. >> okay. we have to leave it there. thank you for your patience trying to squeeze in a lot due to the breaking news. sorry we had to cut it short. and thank you for being patient with my interruptions there, mr. sam clovis. good luck to you and to mr. trump as well. >> see you soon. >> yes. arthel, that story that you mentioned is the developing one in sacramento happening at the capitol building. about half a dozen people stabbed. some severely injured during a clash of protesters. officials describing one group as being associated with the white supremacy groups. they apparently collided with some anti-protesters who are holding signs such as keep nazis

a fox news alert. the fire department telling fox news that seven people have been transported to area hospitals following multiple stabbings at a neo-nazi rally in sacramento, california. this after counterprotesters clashed with demonstrators outside the capitol building. the neo-nazi group had been planning the rally at that site for several weeks, and countergroups had organized efforts on social media to protest against the rally. now, authorities have cleared
1:35 pm
the scene of the clash, but we're going to continue to monitor any developments and bring those updates as we get them. another fox news alert on the devastating and deadly flooding in west virginia. at least 24 people are dead at crews search for those still missing and assess the damage. president obama offering federal help, signing a disaster declaration for the three hardest hit counties. garrett tenney is reporting live from west virginia. garrett? >> reporter: arthel, this cleanup process is going to take months, and the recovery process for some will take even longer. this creek right here, this shows you how dangerous flash flooding is. three days ago, within just a few minutes, this water rose more than ten feet. right here, this used to be a bridge connecting this home's driveway to the main road.
1:36 pm
as soon as these waters rose up the stream, it took several houses. took them off their foundations and brought them down the water, destroying the bridge along with a car as well. one of those homes belonged to diana sanders. this is her right here as she's going through what's left of her home here all along the creek. she epitomizes the loss of so many across west virginia. her husband was inside one of those homes. he is one of the 24 people that have been killed. i asked her, what is it like, within minutes, how can you handle that losing your home, your car, all of your belongings, and your husband as well? >> one minute at a time. i've got good friends. i've got wonderful family up here. wonderful family. my daughter and granddaughters. just one minute at a time. that's all i can do. >> reporter: the loss is still
1:37 pm
setting in for folks here, going up and down this stream, looking for their belongings, seeing what is left for them to rebuild. arthel? she says she's been there 37 years with her husband. she plans to go back. >> i beg your pardon, i was listening to someone else, but when you were showing the interview with diana sanders, i believe is her last name, my heart went out to her, to lose her home and her husband at the same time. and, you know, watching you stand there on what looks like a movie set. this is not fantasy. this is very real for those residents there. garrett, thank you for bringing us the update on that story there. >> just so heartbreaking. there's been trouble in sacramento. there's a protest there described as some neo-nazi groups, and on social media, they went out on social media to have a protest against that protest. and the results, seven people sent to area hospitals following
1:38 pm
multiple stabbings at that rally at the sacramento building. joining us on the telephone right now from fox 40 news, sarah with the latest. any updates on the injuries, the conditions, and what happened? >> hi there. when you were briefed by the sacramento police department. what we understand is that there are actually five people that were stabbed. four on capitol property and one is believed to be stabbed down the road. they were all transported to area hospitals. unknown extent of injuries, but that was just the stabbing situation there. rocks thrown. bleeding. trails of blood everywhere. it's just pretty unbelievable si sight here at the capitol. >> what information do on the group being described as white supremacy affiliated group, what information do you have on them, and on the counterprotesters who came out to confront them? >> the traditional party, they've never really showed up.
1:39 pm
the protest was canceled before it even began. a couple of them showed up and every time one person would come, the counterprotesters would almost swarm them. the counterprotesters have been here since about 9:00 this morning, and they were marching around the capitol, waiting for the protests to begin, and like i said, the protest never really started. it's this outburst of violence on different areas of the capitol, and the protest was canceled. we don't know if it was canceled by the twp or by the california highway patrol. that's information that we're waiting to hear back on. >> any indication at all from authorities or looking into why perhaps there wasn't more law enforcement control? you know, sometimes they set up pens for protesters, especially when you have a potentially violent and volatile situation. authorities try to keep both sides so far apart. or in this case, you know, on a sunday morning, it's just not possible because you've got people flowing into the area from all over the place and you just can't control it. >> reporter: well, there are
1:40 pm
