state that could be happening this weekend. back to you. >> kevin corke, thank you. that is it for our coverage tonight in your world. i'm sandra smith. "the five" is next. they'll have the latest on the attack in bangladesh. have a good night, everyone. this is a fox news alert. isis claiming responsibility for yet another terror attack. this time, in bangladesh. a hostage situation is currently under way. nine armed men stormed a restaurant popular with foreigners. they were reportedly armed with guns and explosives. two officers were killed by the attackers, and of course, the world is on high alert following the attacks in turkey. this incident, another soft target. chief intelligence correspondent catherine heritage is here. >> thank you. as you mentioned, the claim of responsibility by isis by the media organization, they said isis commandos are responsible
2:01 pm
for attack at the restaurant at dhaka in bangladesh. eyewitness news heard them saying "allahu akbar" which translates as god as great as they took hostages in the bakery district of dabbinga. s.w.a.t. teams are preparing to move in on a restaurant. earlier, the state department spokesman says the americans are accounted for but the situation is highly fluid. >> we have 100 % accountability for american citizens that are working under the chief of mission authority and we're continuing to work on the accountability of others and we're continuing to stay in touch with becomangladeshi authorities. >> the islamic state has uppemp. taking over a restaurant is a real departure. they're engaged in the fight for supremacy with the al qaeda affiliate in bangladesh and in
2:02 pm
the recent isis online managgaz there was a meeting with the group leader. given the quick claim of responsibility, analysts say it shows you that this region is now a high priority for isis in iraq and syria, kimberly. >> thank you so much, catherine. catherine bringing up a great point, eric, because there is sort of this battle for supremacy and jihad in this region. this is an area that has been under siege recently by an al qaeda affiliate aqis. this is interesting because now you have isis trying to put a strong hold and by having a significant jihad presence in this area, claiming responsibility, relatively early and as catherine points out, a unique and novel target for them in terms of this restaurant. >> this just in, president obama says the jv team isis is on the run and we're beating them and oh, john kerry says he is going to go to bangladesh with bob
2:03 pm
dylan and make everything good. too soon? no, not too soon. now they're every day. it is every week there is another terrorist attack, okay, so it is not here, i get it but when are they going to start coming here. we know they want to. importantly, we said here after istanbul and we said, was it isis or not? it looks like isis but they didn't claim responsibility. they're true. hey, they did this, they claimed responsibility immediately. istanbul they didn't claim it and it is chechens who are saying that they're part of isis -- >> but we don't know now that they were trained. it was set-up by isis, although the chechens were the ones who executed the terror. isis is implicated in the turkish airport attack. i think it is interesting, though, in this case as you were pointing out, very quickly they
2:04 pm
take responsibility officially. in the other situation, less so. i'm wondering if they want to keep the turkish government focused on the kurds making them think that they're involved. it is isis all over both this attack and what happened in turkey. >> you bring up a great point. they do not actually, traditional traditionally, they do not claim responsibility in that area in turkey. it is a more inflicted nuanced relationship because turkey allows them to access their hospitals for the wounded fighters and turkey is also buying iraqi oil sold by isis so it is complex. >> i was going to say, the fingerprints are when they yell "allahu akbar." >> which they did. >> it is not a hint. it is not scientologyists it is not westboro. it is a radical islamic take of a religion. so, the point is, when you bring up the chechens and the russians and isis, you need to address this as an idea and not as a
2:05 pm
religion. religion creates a protection that it doesn't deserve. if you said it wasn't a religion, and it was intolerant and homo phobic and kills gays and does horrible things to women, you wouldn't tolerate it, so just because it is a religion doesn't mean that it -- it is afforded an immune bubble or some kind of protection. i think, you know, it goes back to the fact that we're very scared of appearing islama-phobic. by not differentiating, we're insulting the religion and the other interesting thing about this is no one gets less radicalized. they get older or they die. >> or they switch groups. >> tongue in cheek, during ramadan, maybe shorten the time of ramadan but they do, the terror attacks do step up in ramadan. it is important for people to
2:06 pm
realize, even be morevil vigila during this time. maybe you get more virgins if you're a martyr. >> this is coming before the end of ramadan so it is telling. you see this close on the heels of turkey and the attack in the u.s. in orlando and obviously that one proceeded again on u.s. soil by san bernardino. there has been a flurry of activity and specifically isis had called for in 2015, in their magazine, to up, you know, increase the amount of attacks in this area, in bangladesh so you see this kind of coming to fruition, this is something they have to keep a close eye on. the other concern is that those in the diplomatic area, this is a diplomatic region, those who work for the u.s., state department, the embassy there, they've accounted for the employees there, but what about the american citizens or anyone
2:07 pm
else that might be over there traveling. >> i see these stories and it is not getting better. it is getting worse. it seems like every day we wake up and we have to deal with this. and i just -- where are we? i'm not a military strategist. there seems like there is a huge vacuum and there has of late. it looks like isis is empowered. it looks like all of the regions that you look at and including home grown terrorism. the problem is getting worse. somebody has to step up to the plate and change the dynamic here and that is usually us. that is usually america that steps up and people come behind and i'm not calling for troops on the ground or boots on the ground everywhere but there has to be some kind of long-term strategy to address this unless people want to wake up every day and read stories like this. this is what it is coming to. you wake up every day and you hear about innocent people held hostage or killed or living in fear of their lives. >> and go to the golf course
2:08 pm
right after and you fail to mention the islamic terror because you'll offend somebody and the fear is na if you offend a certain group, so muslims, then they will become radicalized and want to kill you more, no, they want to kill us. and they have a plan to kill as many americans as -- westeners as they can. >> this was derailed youth. of that is what they said. >> derailed youth are teens hanging out at the mall smoking weed. people bursting into a restaurant and taking hostages and killing police, those are terrorists. almost all terrorists are young because the guys older are smart enough not to put their lives on the line. they get the young guys and have the young guys do it. youth is not an excuse. >> and a hate crime. >> it has been very warm in that part of the world, the climate change is clearly the kraucause the problem. >> i'm listening to you guys. wait a seblcond, we were
2:09 pm
celebrating that the united states killed 250 members of isis. >> i'm just saying, when we say what is the united states doing, we always want to blame -- the united states is active and aggressive. >> that is not a strategy. 250 people are dead. that is not a strategy. the strategy is how do we create something long-term that will eradicate this problem. this is what we do, juan, you're right. we take pockets out and air strikes here and let's arm these people and they may or may not use the arms against us. we don't research it well and we don't know who we're helping. somebody with a brain and common sense need to get in there and figure out what to do with this. it has already been here. we lived through 9/11. we know what this looks like. somebody better wake up who knows what they're doing in terms of military strategy and do more than just take out more than 200 of them here and there. >> many people thinks we're not being sufficiently aggressive on the ground in terms of the battle. i think that we are, but i
2:10 pm
understand and the question of do we put troops on the ground comes in. but greg, i think, who is, by the way, the guy we rely on as our american genius for military issues. he said something interesting saying it is an ideology. so the question is how do you combat an ideology that is so poisonous and anti-civilization. it is not just anti-us. it is anti-the french, anti-the people in belgium. it is anti-people in, as we see today, the muslim world who believe in progress. >> everyone has to come together, i agree, this has -- this is not just going to be an american issue to resolve but something happens historically when american leads is what i'm saying and you have a president who eric, you know, led talking about. there is no leadership. people look at us and say what is the united states doing? that is a fact. people around the world look and say what is america doing and often times come and join hands with us and that absence has not helped matters.
2:11 pm
>> can i answer your question. what can we do? and bring in something that greg said earlier. president obama can, instead of being afraid of insulting muslims or afraid of having a negative connotation of something he says towards islam. he said if you're a moderate muslim in the united states of america and you know something, you or we're going to go after you, too. instead of this pussy-footing around, tip toeing saying i don't want to offend them. >> but that is not really going to solve the question -- >> you call for moderate muslims and say you're sitting back, people are dying. >> i think we monitor them, we get involved with all of this. i don't think this is not taking place. it is not like we have dumb people behind this -- >> afraid to profile. >> the one thing you can do that people haven't brought up is why not talk about creating a more moderate form of religion.
2:12 pm
i'm trying to educate radicals out of radicalization. in all religions, the most extreme are the most dangerous in any religion. it is the people that are the most extreme that are the most dangerous. there has to be a path created to pull people along. you're young and you want to go this way, go this way. and i don't think we -- i don't think we know how to do that. >> is there another alternative? is there a -- there is a reformed jew. hard core fundamental jews and then reformed. where are the moderate muslims. >> it is a question that they're saying. >> you can go to reformed temple. you can go to -- >> well, i just think you have to deal with the bad ones and that is the question. >> where is the born again reformed. >> i guess the point is, the old testament was pretty scary, the
2:13 pm
new testament not so scary. that is where they have to go. they have to start moving that way. >> that is fascinating. we'll continue to monitor the situation and bring you breaking news developments as they happen. up next, today's another top story, the fall out continues for loretta lynch after her secret meeting with bill clinton. she went on the offensive, what she said about that encounter when "the five" returns.

2:16 pm
2:17 pm
the fall out intensifies after attorney general loretta lynch's private meeting with bill clinton. lynch has increased pressure to step aside into the investigation of the private e-mail server. lynch addressed the controversy. >> certainly my meeting with him raises questions and concerns and so, believe me, i completely get that question, but it really was a social meeting with president clinton. it doesn't have a meeting on how this matter will be reviewed, revolved and accepted by me. i certainly wouldn't do it again. it has cast a shadow over what it should not, over what it will not touch. >> in another bomb shell development, lynch announced she will defer to the fbi and career
2:18 pm
prosecutors on whether to press charges against clinton after the e-mail investigation is completed. >> they will make recommendations on how to resolve what those facts lead to. the recommendations will be reviewed by career supervisors and the department of justice and the fbi and by the fbi director and then as is the common process, they present it to me and i fully expect to accept their recommendations. recusal would mean i wouldn't be briefed on what those findings were. i'll be briefed on it and i will be accepting their recommendations. >> and the outrage, the outcry about from both sides of the fence, democrats and from republicans and legal scholars alike is only growing, intensifying at this hour. eric, you're hosting a one hour special tonight in prime time in for hannity. >> deep diving into everything about this. we'll talk a lot about what she means when she says i fully, what, i certainly wouldn't do it
2:19 pm
again. that is kind of interesting. almost implicates herself on that one. why would president clinton wait for loretta lynch's plane, wait for it to land so she could board it to talk about his grandchild for 30 minutes. this stinks. this stinks to high heaven. yesterday i said it didn't seem like much. >> what did i say? >> you pull back the layers of the onion, you see there is so much coming on. i think she came out and said this today because of the fbi outrage. fbi agents are furious that she is corrupting their investigations. >> and brett baier reporting that and information for that as well about the outrage. you can imagine by compromising an investigation you've been working on for quite some time is not just of hillary clinton it is also the clinton foundation which directly connects and relates to bill clinton who also, by the way, previously appointed loretta lynch in a u.s. attorney position. >> it all goes back to bill. i feel bad.
2:20 pm
i thought he thought tg was jeffrey epstein's jet and he was interested in joining the sea level club. the plane never leaves, look, i wonder if hillary knew what bill was doing because if -- he was probably, like, trying to help her out. she probably just bought a case of lamps just to throw at him. he is going to need secret service protection against her because she did not need this. >> by the way, at all, so once again, bill finds himself in the doghouse. >> yeah, exactly. >> a ken yelnel. >> i think it exposes the clintons for what they are. they think there is one set of rules for everyone else and one set of rules for them. they're not stupid. bill clinton doesn't think we're all stupid sitting here and thinking, oh, two investigations under way and he is on there talking about his grandkids and golf. he knows that we know that something messed is going on. he just thinks we'll let him get
2:21 pm
away with it because that is what they do. the message to people is if this is what you want in the white house. if this is the kind of behavior you want, elect hillary clinton. i don't believe at all that she has no knowledge of this. of course she had knowledge of this. it is insane. this is what you're getting. you're getting people who feel they're above the law and i think people -- >> what about the -- >> i don't know where to start. now you're saying hillary clinton knew about -- >> i'm sure, you don't think hillary clinton knew about this? you don't give her enough credit. >> i think part of the news here is that today you heard the attorney general say she doesn't know when the investigation will be done. well, part of the thinking from people who are inside this is we're very close to the convention and at this point it makes it unlikely that any indictment is going to be forth coming because it will be seen as a political bomb shell at this point. but to say that she doesn't know when it is coming, even now, suggests that it can actually go beyond the conventions, closer
2:22 pm
to the -- wow. talk about politically explosive. i don't believe that hillary clinton knew about this. i don't believe that. i don't know what would make you make that statement. i do think, the best i can do is, i'm trying to understand and not say, oh, you guys are up to the normal conspiracy stuff. i think bill clinton was engaged in what someone i read is a charm offensive. you don't really have to -- you don't have to discuss the specifics, you can just engraciate yourself to the person who is in charge of making the final call. >> who you previously appointed by the way. don't forget who put you there. >> like the parents who go to the little league coach to talk about the kids. hey, maybe you can play them more, but bill is like going, hey, maybe you can just layoff her, it doesn't have to be that bad. you know, he tried to make it nice -- >> back off, until mid november. something like that. >> it is amazing when they said
2:23 pm
what were you thinking? she said that is the question and then didn't answer it. >> former president like bill clinton wants to board the plane, you let them. eric holder, janet reno. they have all recused themselves oz high profile cases, why doesn't she? >> right! that way there is no kind of even air of impropriety. we know who helped us out. you field beholden to that person saying they helped me get this start in the position of prominence and importance. why would you ever agree? there was obviously plenty of time to contemplate and think about what they're going to do. he knows better. he is an attorney. she is the head top dog for the justice department. that is why the story is still living, breathing. this story doesn't end here. yeah, wait until you hear the
