from virginia making his first court appearance this week. documents showing he made multiple calls and quit the national guard after he was inspired by hate preacher anwar al awlaki. he praised nadal hasan and wanted to follow in hasan's footsteps. he opened fire back at the texas base in 2009 killing 13 people and hurting 30 more in a brutal mass shooting. investigators saying he thought about following through with his plan to attack a military base multiple times and just last week he tried to buy two more high-powered military styled weapons but the fbi catching on and taking him down after a three-month sting operation. they caught him sending money to who he thought was an isis fighter but was an under cover agent. he went back to his native country sierra leone and talked

from leaders on capitol hill. kristin fisher has the very latest. >> reporter: even though the director of the fbi james comey did not recommend any criminal charges, he did offer a blistering critique of how clinton handled classified information while she was secretary of state. first, comey said that clinton did send and receive classified information over her private server. some e-mails were marked classified at the time they were sent. that directly contradicts what clinton claimed from day one. there wasn't just one server, there was multiple servers. comey says it's totally possible they were hacked putting national security secrets at risk. several top republicans are saying they simply does not understand how they can come out and acknowledge all of this violation but not recommend any criminal charges. >> i'm confused by it. i did have the opportunity to speak with director comey just the last couple hours.
