i am a lot of things. i am his guardian. i am his voice. so i asked about adding once-daily namenda xr to his current treatment for moderate to severe alzheimer's. it works differently. when added to another alzheimer's treatment, it may improve overall function and cognition. and may slow the worsening of symptoms for a while. vo: namenda xr doesn't change how the disease progresses. it shouldn't be taken by anyone allergic to memantine, or who's had a bad reaction to namenda xr or its ingredients. before starting treatment, tell their doctor if they have, or ever had, a seizure disorder, difficulty passing urine, liver, kidney or bladder problems, and about medications they're taking. certain medications, changes in diet, or medical conditions may affect the amount of namenda xr in the body and may increase side effects. the most common side effects are headache, diarrhea, and dizziness. all my life, he's protected me. now i am giving back. ask their doctor about once-daily namenda xr and learn about a free trial offer at namendaxr.com.

it's bottom of the hour. time for the top of the news. memorials continuing to grow as the shooting from thursday night's shootings begins for president obama's visit. protests erupting for the fourth straight day following the shootings of the two black men at the hands of police in louisiana and minnesota. some of the protests took a violent turn. president obama in spain today addressing the protests, urging demonstrators to avoid inflammatory words and actions saying it would step back their cause. he is cutting his trip short following the killing of five police officers in dallas. the top federal prosecutor
9:32 am
in new york city before he became the mayor. he has defended law enforcement especially as police officers across the country have now come under attack by protesters reacting to the fatal shootings of two african american men. rudy giuliani joins us with these thoughts. you're coming under some criticism. is that fair? >> complete pli unfair. i was just on cbs face the nation and it is the reason why many people believe the mainstream media is part of the democratic national committee. i started my case and i said i have zero tolerance for police officers who are brutal. i put them in jail and i believe that black lives matter is a racist organization that is helping to fuel this. if i had an organization called white lives matter you could say it was a racist organization or
9:33 am
yellow lives matter or some group that divides us, all lives matter. that's the teaching of the major religions and that's the teaching of our institution. black lives matter instigates a lot of the hatred and division. only the mainstream media makes it appear nonviolent. some are calling for killing police officers, slaughtering police officers, putting targets on the backs of police officers. so i made that point, that both sides have to stop. zero tolerance for police brutality and black lives matter have to back off and start working on -- if you're really concerned about black lives matter let's talk about the way most black lives are killed,
9:34 am
like one every 14 hours in chicago, the real way they are killed which is black crime and let's get control of it. >> they will say you have these police shootings, castile and sterling, you don't know the facts but it's being streamed on facebook horrible and you have the other situations. >> correct. >> so they do have legitimate -- >> and i began -- and i began my opening statement by saying i offered my condolences to all three. in the first two situations it's being pursued by the criminal justice system and we don't know exactly what happened. the governor announced it is racist. he doesn't know what the motivation of the police officers are. it may be. it may not be. he should have kept his mouth shut. when police were acting what were they doing? they were acting to protect a
9:35 am
black demonstration against the police and against police contact and they got slaughtered and shot. president obama had the nerve to get on television yesterday and say he can't figure out the motivation of the shooter. well, the shooter told us his motivation. chief brown had no trouble telling us his motivation, to kill police officers. >> how can you hold black lives matter responsible for any of this. is it your view stirring up e ploegss sore it really fair to tie them into stirring up emotion ns dall emotions in dallas. >> you just said it. they rhetoric in which they yell and scream and kill cops.
9:36 am
the gof flvernor said it is rac before he had a chance to look at the facts. >> how do you have peaceful demonstrations absent these kind of emotions that are very deep-seeded and well taken by african americans in this country -- >> notice i didn't condemn demonstrations. i condemned black lives matter. of course they have a right to demonstra demonstrate. i protected thousands of demonstrators. i protected them all. no body ever got hurt, but when you start doing things like black lives matter and you start distinguishing blacks from whites and black lives matter takes no account of the 99% of the way the other black children die then you have to wonder, what kind of group is this? second, they put on this woman
9:37 am
from naacp who said the following, major giuliani has not taken the side of the police. mayor giuliani previovided on t most brutal time. they would not give me the chance to respond. here is the facts. i saved more black lives than any mayor in the history of the city. over 6,000. >> the murder rate was 1,000 -- >> 1924. i left it to mayor bloom buberg 500. 75% of the murders are black. we saved somewhere between 5,008,000 black lives. th -- five thousand and eight
9:38 am
thousand black lives. get rid of the slogan. it is divisive. it is anti christian. of course black lives matter but so do white lives and so do every other life. she said i never went into the black community. i was in the black community all of the time. i went to hail house every year and took care of the children there. harlem is harlem today because of me, not because of charlie ran rangle. i did the same thing in brooklyn. i fought and worked for the black community even though they never voted for me. i put it in harlem to save black lives. there isn't one of these black racial arsonists that has saved any where the number of black lives that i saved and i'll be darned malign my integrity.
9:39 am
cbs is a completely unfair station because they would not allow me to rebut lies being said about me. she lied about it. >> mayor giuliani, we'll get a statement from cbs on the mayor's claims today. thank you for coming in. >> we'll be right back. look at all these purchases
9:40 am
you made with your airline credit card. hold on...you only got double miles on stuff you bought from that airline? let me show you something better. the capital one venture card. with venture, you earn unlimited double miles on every purchase... not just...(dismissively) airline purchases. every purchase. everywhere. every day. no really! double miles on all of them! what's in your wallet?

enforcement and the communities they serve. good to see you, betsy. >> thank you. >> it feels like the tragedies of last week capped off by the massacre of those brave dallas officers touched the core of america's hearts and emotions. will this ring through the halls of congress and evoke discussions of unity? >> i think it is possible. he is one of the few members of congress who is a career law enforcement official. what he said is, look, division and it's essential republicans stop trying to make political gain based on horrific conflict. he doesn't see it happens but he saw a lot of room to work with.
9:45 am
and on encouraging to better training and hire from a big are pool so they can get more experienced qualified people doing policing. he was optimistic. it is challenging but i think there is certainly room for unity in congress. >> and you mentioned gun control. i wanted to ask you where does that sit and is there an way that could lead to congressional action? >> it strikes me as extraordinarily unlikely we'll see any movement on gun control. what democrats push for would undermind not just the right to bear arms but when it involves what decisions you can make. there is really a massive
9:46 am
impact. it makes it really hard for cooler heads to prevail on any regulations on gun. i think it's plausible we'll see more policies in place that could reduce gun crime without access to young americans, particularly more funding from a program called project safe neighborhoods. it helps to provide more federal funding trying to go after prep traitors for gun crime. funding has been cut over the past dek kad decade. some times it doesn't make for snazzy campaign ads. are we going to help police
9:47 am
departments fight gun violence even if it doesn't help us beat each other in the elections coming up? >> that is an important question and surprisingly difficult for those on capitol hill. >> we'll leave it there. thank you. and some top american athlet athletes, why they are skipping olympics over fears about zika. we are hearing about deaths related to zika. is it possible to escape a possible spread of the virus here? we'll have more on protecting us all from zika. to be. i even accept i have a higher risk of stroke due to afib, a type of irregular heartbeat not caused by a heart valve problem. but what i won't accept is getting out there with less than my best. so if i can go for something better than warfarin, i will.
9:48 am
eliquis. eliquis reduced the risk of stroke better than warfarin, plus it had significantly less major bleeding than warfarin... eliquis had both... that really mattered to me. don't stop taking eliquis unless your doctor tells you to, as stopping increases your risk of having a stroke. eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. don't take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. while taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily... ...and it may take longer than usual for any bleeding to stop. seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. i accept i don't have to set records. but i'm still going for my personal best. and for eliquis. reduced risk of stroke plus less major bleeding. ask your doctor if switching to eliquis is right for you. americans are buying more and more of everything online. and so many businesses rely on the united states postal service

some disturbing news, saying an elderly patient with the virus has died. while the exact cause is unclear it does mark the very first death related to zika here in the continental u.s. >> and we have our fox news doctor, professor of medicine and dr. david samati and chief of robotic surgeries, good to see you both. you want to make an person note.
9:52 am
they say it's not from mosquito here in the u.s. the patient had been in a zika zone. we want to tie it into the olympics. they have said they are not going as a result. is that a legitimate concern and we want to say if those people go, god forbid they get bitten, they are concerned do they bring it back now. >> brazil has a mosquito control. it is going towards the winter and chances are the number of zika cases will die down. even people that bring it here, the key is will it spread among our native mosquitos here? one death among a woman like this is tragic. she was also elderly. zika very rarely kills, almost never. it isn't a deadly virus.
9:53 am
the biggest thing is it effects the brain in unborn infants. that's what we have to focus on. it would be a problem. they are looking at that very seriously in florida and there's no sense right now that it will have sustained spread down there. >> it's important to know this was not from a mosquito here. the woman had been in a zika zone. where should we be without mosquitos in our country? >> you and i both had conversations about this. we were the first one that actually called it. it was very clear. they said zika will not be a major epidemic. the reason why this is not going to be a huge problem, and so far cdc says there's no live transmission of zika in the united states. everybody that has seen this has traveled to one of the zika centers or a man has gotten it and they have transferred it through sexual activity.
9:54 am
will we see more of these cases? possibly. there are other medical issues that may have contributed to this and not as a result of zika. people may not know they have zika number one or if they may get fever or red eye or joint pain that will result within days to weeks. if you're planning to be pregnant, if you're planning to be with someone that has been in the zika zone and they come back for about six months you have to use condemns and protect yourself. the osd of somebody that would want to be pregnant, have sex, gets the virus, you to go through all of those. i don't think it will be a huge problem here. >> and you said that if a mos -- see if i understood this correct lichlt go they get the virus, we are not talking about sexual
9:55 am
contact. what if another mosquito bites the person with the zika virus? >> that has not happened yet. that is what they are vigilant about in florida. you hit a key point which is the way it is spread, much more commonly than sexual spreading. it is extremely low if not existent. it drives and has never taken off here. we have a global, you to prepare yourself and make sure you get travel information and get the vaccine information. >> and bottom line, don't worry. >> don't worry. if you're pregnant don't travel to brazil if you're pregnant. >> thank you. slapping a fine on a rider,
