it was a powerful crowd. of seen a lot of standing ovations in my life before. it went on and on. and then the emotion that came out of that crowd i thought, you know, zeroing in on some of the people in the audience, and there was a lot of tears in their eyes because people felt the emotion that marcus was exuding about what he had been through and what the next generation has to stand up and do and where we are as a country and how important this election is. >> of course you introduced him, governor. to the folks who missed it, because you did a beautiful job of sewing it up. it all started with the tour. >> well, it was -- i tell people i said some people will say you know, it was just -- whatever. but truly it was the grace of god that put us in san diego. the end of july/first of august in 2006. and it was a saturday. and they walked in and said,

hey, does anyone want to give a vip tour and people are like, go to hell and we're resting and marcus said. that's what start it back how ever many years -- eight years now. he went off for one more deployment. people don't realize after red wing he was deployed one more time to iraq with his brother morgan and his twin brother who is still -- he was on the team 5. anyway, he showed up on the -- at the guard shack at the governor's mansion the following summer. and said -- he said for me to come by if i was here. and so we have been kind of -- what do you used to say the old crazy man in the attic? >> he was struggling a little bit then. >> i had gotten out and a lady invited me to dinner. once i got back -- i got hurt again. so i -- once i got back, i showed up over there. like he said. i didn't leave. [ laughter ] for three years. three years, they hid me in

there and i recovered. the greatest part about it is that he was running the state and lady perry -- she's a nurse. so i mean, she actually tended to my wounds and then my surgeries. looked out for me. then he'd go to work at the end of the day and then he'd -- he put me -- he was a father figure to me all those years. i sat and watched and listened, all the heads of state, i just sat and watched and he put me on the path. i was a full-time frog man. and he gave me guidance. and i never looked back. it was one of the deals where i just had one person looking out for me, that's all i ever needed. so we have been close ever since. >> marcus, your speech was incredible last night. you also -- you mentioned last night that the war is here. it's here in america. let's listen to that and then we'll talk to you about it. >> the next generation, this is for you. your wars here. you don't have to go searching for it.

and in fact to spend a day with him. kind of peek behind that curtain and see what's really going on and you hear everything in the media and i didn't know mr. trump. for instance, i have known him my whole life and when -- the miss america pageants and people are calling him a racist, i thought that would have been out a long time ago. he loves his family, he's successful. you need the deals to push the country in the right direction. so obviously i'll back him up. >> and that's what you said yesterday. governor, he attacked you personally and he attacked marco rubio personally. he wants to win. that's the way he does it. he attacked ben carson but this is it, we're in a competition. you put that behind you. what's the message to jeb bush and others who won't do it? >> i couldn't articulate it any better than you just said. >> that was pretty good. >> that's what the individuals need to think about.

he is a college football coaching legend. happened to coach at my university when i was there. and a former democrat who is endorsing donald trump. so as a leader and a mentor to all of us, including athletes, what presidential qualities does lou holtz see in donald trump? >> joining us right now is the coach himself. great to see you. >> always a pleasure to be here. >> especially in person. first off, what convinced you that trump was the right guy? he has no experience. >> well, when he got the nomination, but what happened is, you know, i used to be a democrat. but the democratic party basically left me. but i think about -- i think the country needs more than anything is a leader, and a leader has a vision, a plan how he's going to get there. having a vision, do you like the vision he has? he wants this country to grow. he wants it to be great. i remember this country years ago. it's not the same country i was raised in. >> in what way?
