. and unbelievable evening. today has been a very, very special day, i'll never forget it, it's something i will never ever forget. i'm so proud to be your nominee for president of the united states. >> over the top. donald trump officially become the 2016 republican nominee for president. >> and his own son donald trump jr. casting the deciding vote to secure his father's mom nation. >> it's my honor to be able to throw donald trump over the top in the delegate count tonight
1:01 am
with 89 delegates. congratulations, dad, we love you! >> good early morning to you. it is wednesday, july 20. you're watching fox and friends first. i'm abby huntsman. >> and i'm heather childers. the stage is set for another big night, the theme make america first again. >> just hours ago, governor chris christie was rallying some fired up trump supporters in that very same arena. but arguably the real star of the night would be donald trump jr. praising his father as the only choice for president. >> whether it's teaching his granddaughter how to swing a golf club or tackling the
1:02 am
toughest gonegotiations, he's always fully committed. that's why the person who would never run for office before stood on the stage 11 months ago in this very arena with 16 professional politicians and this this week that same man will stand before you as our party's nominee for the president of the united states of america. we didn't learn from mbas. we learned from people who had doctorates this common sense. it's why we're the only children of billionaires as comfortable in a caterpillar as we are in our own cars. and when we elect them, we'll have done all that. we'll have made america great again, greater than ever before. >> my father is good with advice as you might guess, but you keeps it short and the takeaway is usually the same. to help us find our own way and our own gifts. if you do what you love, hold nothing back and never let fear of failure get in the way, then
1:03 am
you pretty much have figured out the trump formula. >> the next time that there is a state of the union address, i don't know where joe biden or barack obama will be, but you'll find me right there on the rostrum with vice president mike pence and president donald trump. let the other party go on with more government control over every aspect of our lives, more taxes to pay, more debt to carry, more rules to follow, more judges who just make it up as they go along. they are offering a third obama temp brought to you by another clinton. we in this party offer a better way for our country. watch the democratic party convention next week. you can get through four days of it with a little help from the mute button. but four more years of it? not a chance. look, the obama years are almost over. the clinton years are way over. 2016 is the year america moves on. let's see this thing through. let's win this thing.
1:04 am
let's show america our best and nothing less. >> this is a nation where every coin it in our pocket and every bill in our wallet says in god we trust. so are we willing to elect someone as president who has as their role model somebody who acknowledges lucifer? >> as to hillary clinton, the charge of putting herself ahead of america, guilty or not guilty? >> guilty! >> let's face the facts. hillary clinton cares more about protecting her own secrets than she cared about protecting american secrets. and then she lied about it over and over and over again. she fights for the wrong people. she never fights for us. it is time to come together and

make sure that donald trump is the next president of the united stat states. >> let's bring in our political panel live from cleveland, welcome political he is it tore for townhall.com guy benson as well as republican strategist cathy lynn taylor. welcome. >> good morning. >> good morning from cleveland. >> so let's, first of all, just get your overall response. who do you think did best for the day? cathy, i'll start with you. >> well, as you said, a star was born last night, but more importantly, even a political dynasty may have been born. the trump family hit the ball out of the park and donald trump jr. was the star of the night. and he made a very strong case for the theme merg works because what he did is he showed a very strong understanding of conservative values, something that folks have been kefred
1:06 am
about whether trump really understands. he showed a strong understanding of conservative values and conservative policy, but he married that with a tradeoff with every day americans with lines like elevator used to be middle class and now it's not. and he made it representable and that's what republicans haven't done effectively in the past and he did a fantastic job last night. >> i can see donald trump jr. maybe running for office himself one day. and also the sense of family unity when it comes to the trump family. if you're the hillary clinton camp watching it play out last night, what would concern you most? >> i would agree that probably donald trump jr.'s speech. i thought he really did an extraordinary job. i thought it was one of the most effective arguments i've heard on behalf of the trump presidential campaign from anyone over the span of several months.
1:07 am
i really thought it was that good. and part of the reason was he spoke about donald trump his father in sort of an endearing personal way, but he also talked about some of the ways in which they were raised as children and then did make that pivot that i was not expecting. i was expecting almost exclusively a personal speech, but he did get into policy and politics and he made a conservative republican speech on behalf of his father. and i think for that reason the delegates in that room had wrapped attention which they did not have for most speeches frankly and they can alive during his speech. >> and interestingly in a way that was humble and relatable. >> he did get pretty strong talking about some of the policies. he good say they, meaning the democrats, gave us the worst immigration system in the world, imports inability, one that drives down employment, wages, for hispanics, african-americans, as well. and so cathy, i also want to
1:08 am
talk about chris christie and speaking of going on the attack. boy, did he. >> he sure did. he was the enforcer of the night for sure. and this is actually not atypical of a vice presidential speech in some respects. chris christie has been kind of the loyal enforcer to donald trump throughout this campaign. last night was no different. and what he did was clever. hillary clinton in defeating her has been a unifier for the republican party and he capitalized on that just like any great prosecutor would, point by point, dismantling ever argument she's tried to make and the crowd ate it up. >> well, someone wanting the job of attorney general. >> right. and i think there are two things that struck me about christie's speech. overall i thought it was definitely effective and got folks in the hall riled up. no question.
1:09 am
i'm not sure how much the lock her up champ is helpful back at home for up decided voters. and i think conflating bad foreign policy along with crimes is not particularly productive. but when it came down to the e-mail scandal, he boiled it down to the one sentence that i think crystallized it which was hillary clinton was more interested in protecting her own secrets than america's secrets and i think that is true and that is a damning indictment and he made that crystal clear and hit the nail on the head. >> we'll have to leave it there. cathy lynn taylor and guy, thanks for being with us. we'll check back with you. and we of course want to hear from everyone at home, as well. who do you think gave the best speech last night? spend us your comments on facebook, twitter. >> and things are ramping up for

the rnc focusing on boosting jobs and the economy. >> so what exactly is donald trump's plan and will it really get americans working again? here to break it all down for us, former treasury department financial analyst, morgan ortega. thank you for joining us. so take us through the main elements of donald trump's economic plan. >> well, it's interesting. i was just talking about this with someone yesterday who was just an average voteser and was asking me are we going into a recession, they were very concerned. and i said one of the most important thing about whoever the next president is the uncertainty of the economy, that business owners and ceos face. the last time the fed governor spoke, she said the word uncertainty something like 25 times in her speech to get justification for why she wasn't raising rates. so i think the most important thing that the next president
1:24 am
donald trump can bring to the american economy is to bring certainty back. so what does that mean? that means knowing that regulations are not going to burden ceos and mom and pop shop owners. people feel like that they can't invest, they don't know what will happen to obamacare and they don't know what will happen with the regulatory atmosphere that is just so he restrictive to business. when you look at the testimony party, you look at elizabeth warren and people like her and bernie sanders, one would almost think that they want to make it illegal to make a profit. and i think that is the main difference and contrast that we hear in the republican party are promoting business and promoting an economic environment that is conducive for people to live and thrive and work. >> and for the specific goals of his tax plan. i know people at home and we as well were able to look at his web side and specifically there were four different elements. tax relief for middle class

americans, simplify the tax code and grow the u.s. economy and don't add to the debt and defic deficit. >> a lot of people still want to hear specifically from fr donald trump on his tax plan. how much of that will he get into his speech on thursday night do you expect? >> well, i guess we'll see, but i think that you have hit the nail on the head and i hope that he does address his tax plan thursday night because there have been a lot of economists who have praised it. when you look of course, we've talked about it plenty of times on fox news, about how the corporate tax rate really is one of the highest in the world and affects our businesses. when everyone goes to file their taxes every april, you know how burdensome it is, that you have to have a specialized experts to be able to do something that should be relatively simple. so if you want to free up american businesses, if you want to free american workers, make a tax plan that is simple, effective and easy for the average worker to understand. you shouldn't have to have a master's agree to be able to do something as civil as pay your

and frankly next week in philadelphia, we'll see the flip side of this coin presented by hillary clinton's allies on maybe donald trump's business record and why he may not be good for the economy. so politics as usual. >> david, did you hear enough details in it or was it too much just attacking hillary clinton? >> first let's congratulate donald trump on becoming the republican nominee yesterday. but yesterday was -- last night was good for donald trump in two ways. one, his family continues to be effective advocates in as tiffany said showing the real him and while donald jr. was equally impressive and getting more of the headline, tiffany presented an intimate and personal side from a daughter's perspective and saying she was nervous kind of endeared her to the audience to only make her points more effective and make
1:35 am
people want to listen to her. the other way it was a good night for donald trump is the fact that mitch mcconnell and chris christie and others had the message to say now is the time to get behind donald trump. and if donald trump starts getting 90% of the republican vote, he will be leading in the polls before the democrats have their convention finished next friday. >> but he has to get there. the reality is, capri, he still doesn't have everyone in the republican party including the bushes, governor john kasich who is governor of ohio has not been at the convention. ted cruz is not officially endorsing donald trump yet. >> but ted cruz is speaking, is he not? >> he's speaking. but not endorsed. how much of an impact has trump's family had as people are trying to make up their minds, trying to introduce donald trump to the country in a more personal way? >> i think that his children are probably his best assets. no question about that. and i saw a statistic last night
1:36 am
that i believe it was in a focus group that i think 11 out of the 17 people in that focus group actually were impacted by donald jr.'s speech and they changed their mind in regards to how they feel about donald trump. tiffany trump i agree did an excellent job providing a more intimate portrait of her father. and so i think when you look to what a man is about, their children is a great and i think that one of the ways he can endear himself to the swing voters if there are any out there frankly at this point, independent votes, i think his family is going to really help. >> and millennials, as well. we actually spoke earlier this evening or last night, whatever you want to call it, to the president of the young republicans organization. and she said that when you deal with donald trump's children, that it's also enabling him to access those millennial voters,
