no choice. well, ladies and gentlemen, that day has come. >> after a long and spirited primary, the time for fighting each other is over. it's time to come together and fight for a new a new direction america. it is time to win in november. >> we should all, even all of you boys with wounded feelings and bruised egos, you must honor your pledge to support donald trump now. tonight. >> we are fighting not for one particular candidate or one campaign but because each of us wants to be able to tell our kids and grand kids we did our best for their future to those listening, please don't stay home in november, stand and speak and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to
2:01 am
defend our freedom and to be faithful to the constitution. >> i think you misunderstood one paragraph. ted cruz said you can vote your conscience for any one who will uphold the constitution. there is only one candidate who will uphold the constitution. to paraphrase ted cruz, if you want to protect the constitution of the united states the only possible candidate this fall is the trump pence republican ticket. >> i accept your nomination to run and serve as vice president of the united states of america. donald trump gets it. he's his own man. distinctly american. he's a man known for a large personality, a colorful style and lots of charisma. i guess he was just looking for
2:02 am
some balance on the tocchicket. >> we can choose a leader who will fight every day to make america great again. it's change verses status quo, and my fellow republicans, when donald trump becomes president of the united states of america, the change will be huge. you have nominated a man for president who never quits, who never backs down, a fighter, a winner. until now he has had to do it all by himself against all odds but this week with this united party he's got backup. and on november 8th it will be doth to be the president of the united states of america. >> let's get right to peter
2:03 am
doocy. last night was big, huge, huge drama. >> good morning heather and abby. trufrn is the nominee. ted cruz gave speech that was mostly about ted cruz and it got him booed off the stage. >> stand and vote your conscience, vote for the candidate up and down the ticket that you trust to defend your freedom and to be faithful to the constitution. >> a top rnc off fish shall called him classless. he was standing in the stadium he knew it was coming. he got booed off the stage. i saw the speech two hours early let him speak anyway. no big deal. >> cuz may have united the
2:04 am
republican party in an unexpected way. >> he is going to let him speak. you see this room when people like to make the story and create the dialogue about unity. the only unity i saw was them booing him off the stage. the number one goal is to make sure we beat hillary clinton. >> right behind ted cruz the giant video board had distracting glitches as large portions of the images on screen disappearing and turning to black. but behind the scenes the cruz team was sending out a fundraising appeal to supporters which fuelled speculation his speech was doe signed to lay the groundwork for a presidential run in four years whether trump wins this time or not. >> abby and heather? >> sounding a lot like that, isn't it? >> happy birthday. >> happy birthday, peter. >> thank you, thank you. >> no place you would rather be than cleveland. go and celebrate.
2:05 am
>> at the rnc on this closing day. it is very exciting. >> you will always remember it that's for sure. >> welcome republican strategist chairman of go pack and gop strategist. thank you for being here. >> a lot of people were talking about how this really came from him, he wrote the speech himself. the messaging was what he wanted to say a lot about trump and highlighting unity. >> he hit a home run. you see why donald trump picked him. he was competent and funny and reassuring. if he ever had to step in to be
2:06 am
president of the united states that speech sent a message he was up for the job. home run for mike pence last night. >> kathy, when you were watching last night you were thinking of ice cream. explain that. >> i was. i was. look, this season has been the bass kin and robins of endorsement. they come in all 31 flavors. last night was no exception. except last night one endorsement did not come and that was ted cruz's. it under pins the criticism ted cruz has placed through out the campaign of being self serving. what he did last night was not not endorse donald trump he handed 2020 to mike pence on a silver platter. mike pence was not only terrific he was reaganesque. you could almost hear something
2:07 am
like ronald reagan coming through. >> big compliment from. >> now i am thinking of ice cream. thanks for that. tonight is a big night for donald trump. what do you want to hear from him? >> undecided voters want to hear what america looks like after four years of a trump presidency. he needs to be on message about what ideas he wants to champion he wants to know about addressing the challenges our country faces. love him or hate him. donald trump knows how to draw a crowd. >> we have you on record saying that. >> kathy, final thought on what we should hear from donald trump this evening. >> well, i think that one of the themes that has been powerful on
2:08 am
behalf of donald trump through out this convention has been his children and others speaking about how he empowers those around him, how he instills to work the ethic and how he will fight on behalf of the american people. i think it would be great on giving american insight into how he gains those values. it will come to him day-to-day as a president. the other thing he needs to do is continue to make conservatism relatable just as others have through out this week. john junior did a terrific job on making conservatism not even partisan but blue collar workers for law enforcement and single moms. he needs to continue that conversation. >> i want to see how he will enter it. >> the song, what did he choose? >> gabby, thank you for being with us. have a good day. the time is now 9 minutes
2:09 am
after the hour. america's symbol of freedom up in flames and protestors violent at the rnc. >> tell me to my face why you hate this flag? >> anybody else who hates america want to talk to me? >> the story will enrage you. we are in the middle of all of it demanding answers. he joins us live from cleveland up next. she spent summer binge-watching. soon, she'll be binge-studying. get back to great. this week these 1-subject notebooks just one cent each. office depot officemax. gear up for school. gear up for great. wyou could just forget frthe beach wedding... and the beach booty... you could just book a different resort.
2:12 am
is the world truly ready for a vehicle that can drive itself? an autonomous-thinking automobile that protects those inside and outside. ready or not, the future is here. the all-new e-class. self-braking, self-correcting, self-parking.edes-benz concept r that's already a reality. mercedes-benz. the best or nothing. >> welcome back. clashing in cleveland. 18 people raised in the rock and roll capitol of the world including a protester who lit an american flag on fire. >> pete waudz right in the
2:13 am
middle of the action. the stuff you got was pretty unbelievable. >> yeah, we were right there. thankfully when he tried to burn the flag he also burned the flag, not sad for him. it was a display of violence right outside of the front of the convention. i had to find out why these protestors were burning the very flag so many men and women fought to protect. >> (chanting) >> it started with one guy that started a small sishlg a dozen people in black t-shirts chanting. they started to pull out a flag and started to try to light it which is why there's a safety reason you have to expand the perimeter or else you are going to light the whole crowd on fire. >> why do you think we should burn a flag? nothing, silence? >> america was never great. >> this is an unlawful protest. god bless our police officers.
2:14 am
>> we are going to move back because we like the cops here so we are going to move back and let them do their work. tell me why you hate america? >> why do you hate america? if you served in afghanistan, you are an gaff stan veteran why do you hate america? nothing? apparently an afghanistan vet i will take him at his words. doesn't want to answer questions. hates america. everybody has their right in the country. he fought to defend it i fought to defend it. you guys revolution, amazing. why do you hate this flag? >> why do you hate this flag. tell me why you hate this flag? tell me to my face why you hate this flag. >> (bleep) you and america. >> anybody else want to tell me why they hate that'america. >> what other country would you like to go to? >> i want to make this country great again. >> it has yet to be great.
2:15 am
>> you hate this country but you don't want to go to another country. >> why would i go anywhere else? this is where i am from. >> why would he go anywhere elsewhere he has the freedom to get away with this where he thinks cops are killers. you are one of the most privileged people in the america. police protect everybody and maintain the rule of law even if they are not standing right next to you. you ever thought about that? >> i am generally privileged i recognize that but not nearly as much as a lot of the people out here. >> you were going to say me, right? >> that goes without saying, right? >> well, wurp all privileged to have some professional law enforcement there keeping the peace and ultimately doing a fantastic job. the flag in the video wasn't the only one destroyed or damaged unfortunately yesterday. later on in the evening another pro tesser attempted to ban another american flag.
2:16 am
if you don't have a lawful permit to protest and you are lighting flags on fire the cops will be there. >> really sad. those last two people they are so proud of what you are doing they are willing to show their whole face to the world. >> i said why won't you show me your face? what are you scared of you are such a tough protester. they didn't have any answers. a lot of them didn't. racism, fascism answers but no real content or substance to what they are doing. >> they are willing to protest but not willing to say what they are protesting for. >> they don't know what the flag stands for and they don't know why they are there. >> they don't want to go anywhere elts. they want to stay in america where it is comfort and and safe but it's the worst wplace in th world. i say buy them a one-way ticket and let them go where they want to go. >> thank you to you and thank you to all of the law enforcement as well. 18 minutes after the top of
2:17 am
2:20 am
2:21 am
took the stage. >> we have the results, one of our favorite segments of the morning. >> good morning to you. >> good morning. let's start with lynn patent. someone who knows trump very well. all lives matter. >> there's not one person in the room who can deny that. historically black lives has mattered less. my life mattered less. whether we like it or not, there are people out there who still believe this to be true. but tonight as a minority myself, i personally pledge to you that donald trump knows that your life matters, he knows that my life matters. he knows that lgbt's lives matter and veteran's lives matter and he knows that blue lives matter. >> some of the dials off the screen towards the end.
2:22 am
>> that was just an amazing, amazing demonstration of how divided we are as a country. in the beginning you saw democrats were giving it a and republicans and independents were skimming and all of a sudden there was a split. independents and republicans gave it an a. they believe all lives matter. i don't understand how democrats could dial it down. one said this, i think it sums up why they did. these payments did not take it seriously coming from a trump employee. i think it is unbelievable there is that level of sinnism and save it and people don't believe it. >> one of the things he said we need to build a wall. >> people are fed up with politicians who don't listen to
2:23 am
them. fed up with the corrupt system that benefits the elites instead of working men and women. we deserve an immigration system that puts america first, and yes, build a wall to keep america safe. >> there were a lot of grades being given to his over all speech and appearance. let's take that particular line. >> the gray area you could see democrats gave it an c and republicans an a. >> he was suggesting and saying the very things people liked about donald trump. the problem was it almost seemed liefkdz trying to describe himself as antiestablishment. folks says you are not anti
2:24 am
establishment, you are the establishment. they did expect him to come around and say trump is the guy, because those are the policies trump has been running on. >> never quite got that endorsement, did he? >> newt gingrich spoke last night. he talked about trump telling the truth. listen. >> there have been many fascinating things to watch about the extraordinary historic rise of donald trump. the most significant has been donald trump's courage to tell some important truths about our national security. for example, we are at war. we are at war. they are determined to kill us. they are stronger than we admit and there is no substitute for victory. >> mixed reaction. >> really mixed reaction. it is not that surprising that democrats disagree.
2:25 am
>> independents gave it an a. they came along again with the radio he p you be kaens. you did an excellent job delivering for donald trump last night. >> coming together with his night governor mike pence the vice presidential nominee. here's what he says>> if you want a president who will enforce our borders and laws, and if you want a president who will upend the status quo in washington, d.c. and appoint justices of the supreme court who will uphold the constitution, we have but one choice and that man is ready, this team is ready. when we elect donald trump the
2:26 am
45th president of the united states, together we will make america great again. >> off the charts for him. not so surprising the democratic reaction. >> you saw the republicans and independents gave him an a. the story of last night should be pens delivered. he proved himself to be a great balance to donald trump. he introduced himself in a way that made him likeable and showed his character. it was a great night for mike pence and everyone we spoke to said things like i hope his great message was not lost in everything else that happened or didn't happen last night. >> he really came through and introduced himself to the country. >> thank you for joining us. >> thanks, lee. >> any time. great to see you guys. >> it is day four.
2:30 am
>> good morning, it is thursday, july 21st. a big night for indiana governor mike pence as he accepted the vice presidential nominee of the republican party. >> night three of the republica books. not without a little bit of drama. >> god bless each and every one of you, and god bless the united states of america. >> pretty unmysticable the crowd boos ted cruz off the stage for
2:31 am
refusing to endorse the republican nominee, donald trump. >> it was an action packed night. you are watching "fox & friends first" on the fourth and final day as you can believe it of the rnc. >> a live fobbinger you. quicken loans arena where the final day will kickoff in just a few hours. make america one again. tonight the republican nominee himself donald j. trump taking center stage. >> another big night last night filled with rousing speeches calling for party unity. >> oprah winfrey asked my father if he ever envisioned running for the presidency of the united states. his answer, only if it got so bad that i had no choice. well, ladies and gentlemen. that day has come to those
2:32 am
listthose listening. >> please don't stay home in november. stand and speak and vote for conscience and candidates up and down the ticket that are faithful to the conts tugs. >> i think you misunderstood one paragraph ted cruz said, you can vote your conscience for any one who will uphold the constitution. in this election there is only one candidate who will uphold the constitution. to paraphrase ted cruz if you want to protect the constitution of the united states, the only possible candidate this fall is the trump pens republican ticket. >> you have nominated a man for president who never quits, who never backs down, a fighter, a winner until now he has had to do it all by himself against all odds. this week with this united party, he has back up and on
2:33 am
november 8th i know we will elect donald trump to be the 45th president of the united states of america. >> the political panel joins us live from cleveland with reaction to the biggs moment. >> moveon.org spokesperson is with us. thank you for being with us. >> karine let's start with you. big night last night. a lot of speeches. what was the highlight for you? >> for me i think once again for a third night the trump campaign stepped all over the message. it should have been mike pence's moment. what happened is you had ted cruz who was giving a prime time opportunity. he didn't endorse and they knew he wasn't going to endorse. it shows the ineptness of the campaign. >> we did get a report that the
2:34 am
trump campaign told him about 10 minutes prior to ted cruz going on they were told he was going to congratulate donald trump and members of the cruz campaign were trying to push him, cruz, to endorse donald trump as well. that didn't happen. >> what we all saw last night was donald trump once again demonstrated he was big enough to extend a hand to ted cruz and ted cruz showed he wasn't big enough to do it. he took a rope and hung himself. it showed a favorable light not just on donald trump but also on mike pence. mike pence following up after ted cruz looking so completely confused and just wrong i think mike pence was even better. >> consistent theme across the board was attacking -- or has
2:35 am
been attacking hillary clinton. more on that tonight when daybreak speaks. what do y -- when donald trump speaks. what will be the biggest attack on her giving you are a democrat. >> i think clearly the republicans have continued to attack her on the e ma ills and 25 years of regurgitated issues that the clintons have had. people don't want to hear what you are against. voters want to hear what you are for. that's the difference here. that will be the stak difference of what we have next week with the national democratic convention. we will have a positive vision in the future for the future. they are expanding social security increasing minimum wage and also college affordability. >> your final thoughts on that? >> well, i think they probably will talk about the future. the problem is the future she talks about is the fantasy.
2:36 am
we can't afford all of the free stuff she wants to give away. we have a $19 trillion debt under this administration as obama, clinton administration. the last thing we need is more classes and regulation. i don't think it will resinate to the mouamerican people. >> she will have a chance to respond next week in philadelphia. >> thank you for being with us. >> thank you for having us. >> have fun down there today. the time now is about 36 minutes after the top of the hour. fighting terrorism. that was frount and center at the republican national convention. >> we need a person who is politically incorrect and will tell it like it is. we need a president who will wipe isis off the face of the earth. >> that is governor rick scott why this is trump's ticket to the white house. the florida governor is joining
2:40 am
>> governor scott had a powerful message. >> finally i had some great news. this is the time america has been waiting for. this year we get to fire the politicians. and who better to let the politicians know you are fired than donald trump? >> governor rick scott joins us live from cleveland, a friend of
2:41 am
fox & friends first. good morning. >> good morning. i watch you every morning when i am working out. >> we love it. on your treadmill. >> great speech last night. one of the things we just heard you say was talking about we are going to fire the politicians. >> donald trump is clearly not a politician. i have been in business all my life. donald trump is going to bring a business head to the job. he is going to focus on building jobs. he's going to focus on destroying isis and military. he's going to be a great president. >> he mentioned isis. that's an issue so many care about isis and fighting terrorism. you experienced it first hand with the attack on orlando florida. why do you think he is the one to fight terrorism? >> we know there is only one
2:42 am
other choice that's hillary clinton. she failed in it. we had 49 people murdered by isis inspired terrorist in orlando. that was horrible. i know the families, went to the funerals. we lost this young lady from bangladesh in miami. it is clearly here in america. it is not in some foreign country. isis is here, terrorism is here. donald trump will focus on destroying isis and no different than building jobs. >> we have to mention ted cruz. he was one of the speakers booed off the stage. he was failing to endorse trump officially. what are your thoughts on that? >> we want one candidate, it is donald trump. everybody needs to unify and get behind donald trump and make sure we have a big win.
2:43 am
i would hope everybody would get on board with donald trump and need to beat hillary clinton. they are not focused on both of the military or securing our borders. donald trump will do that. >> i like the frazer rick pence says vote for someone who signs the front of the check not the back of the check. >> you said we need a president who was not politically correct. there are a lot of folks that say that's what concerns them about donald trump including ted cruz you don't know what he is going to say next or do next. that makes it hard for them to support him. >> hillary clinton will have four more years of barack obama four more years of regulation. i am so frustrated every day. i deal with this every day.
2:44 am
we know what she is going to do. she has failed. she has failed. donald trump is going to be very focused. he's a business person. what do business people do? successful business people are focused on what their goals are. he is going to focus on making america great again. >> you have known donald trump before any one of you ever ran for office. how do you think governor pence will work with him and what will he bring to the table as vice presidential nominee. >> mike is a good friend and i like the fact that he's a governor. he has experience in congress. he is a clear conservative. he will be a great partner for donald trump. i think it is great he picked a governor of indiana.
2:45 am
>> thanks for being with us. thank you for watching the show ever are i day. >> all right. have a great day. >> you, too. >> we are excited about this interview you did with ivanka trump. >> thank you abby and heather. you are having a great show. we are watching the show in the newsroom. i sat down withive veining kau last night. we talked about what it was like to grow up in the trump household, the personal stories and advice she gives her dad. >> what advice would you give to your father? >> that he has to be himself, and the donald trump i know is both incredibly capable and driven and strong but also tremendously warm and caring and loyal and empathetic. so it's really both sides of his
2:46 am
personality... >> also ladies, governor mike pence accepted the nomination as vp last night. his first stop will be right here on fox & friends. >> focus groups saying it is pulling voters over to donald trump's side. >> maybe so. we will be talking about it. thanks, ladies. >> thank you, ainsley. >> we will be right back. stay with us.

there seems to be so many things that divide us. so few great purposes that unite us as they once did. it's at moments like this, moments when politics fail that we'd do well to remember what unites us far exceeds anything that sets us apart in america. >> governor mike pence focusing on bringing the country topgt and the party together. but did his speech help? >> political strategist morgan ortega here. thanks for being here. >> good morning. hello from cleveland. >> hello from cleveland. so even my pence joke last night about most people not even knowing who he is, a lot of voters know more about him. what were your thoughts?
2:51 am
>> i loved his self-depreciating humor when he joked about that. i was just really charmed by him. i thought he was warm. i thought he was very gracious to his nominee and i think this was really important about the vp presidential picks, that both hillary clinton and donald trump have to make. you need to have somebody who is going to openly not take the spotlight away from you and who is going to shine and focus on the candidate. pence's biggest strength last night as well, after a raucous speech before him, pence thought to calm conservatives and assure them this will be a ticket that governs in a manner. i thought this was crucial for trump in this convention. >> something else that has been front and center, at least throughout this convention, is the importance of family. governor pence talked a little bit about his upbringing as well. >> yeah. i love that -- >> for those of you who don't
2:52 am
know me, which is most of you -- [ laughter ] -- i grew up on the front row of the american dream. my grandfather emigrated to this country. i was raised in a small town in southern indiana in a big family with a cornfield in the backyard. although we weren't really a political family, my heroes were john f. kennedy and the reverend dr. martin luther king, jr. >> something that everyone can relate to there, morgan. >> i love when the camera panned to his mother. she seemed in shock and in awe that her son was being nominated to be vice president. those are the moments at conventions that i think really are the ones most emotional. you remember these are normal people with families. i also loved what pence had to say about dr. martin luther king, jr. and president jfk. why is that? it's because they delivered a hopeful message that inspired americans and quite frankly, i think this convention may have
2:53 am
been lacking that a little bit to this point until it came to pence last night. pence gave us a reason, americans a reason to vote for a trump/pence ticket as opposed to not voting for hillary. he knocked it out of the park by delivering a hopeful optimistic message. by saying this is what we'll get done and this is the tone we're setting for america. >> up next, hillary clinton going to announce her vp pick any day now. likely they'll speak at the convention in philadelphia. she wants somebody with experience. whoever it is has to debate against mike pence. how do you think she's thinking about it? >> that's a tough choice. pence is very likeable and warm. i think he'll come across quite well in the vp debate. the first role of the candidates choosing a vp is do no harm. they need to choose a vp who doesn't overshadow them or take the media away from them.
2:54 am
someone who respects her, who supports her and will let her shine. i don't necessarily see that being elizabeth warren. i could be wrong. but i think one of the reasons tim skain bandied about is while hillary clinton would like to run on her experience, unfortunately, that's full of benghazi, isis taking over and iraq under her tenure as state department head. so the whoever is the next president is inheriting a mess in the world. we've got civil wars in libya and iraq. we have north korea test firing rockets this week. that didn't get much play in the press considering what's going on in the convention. the next president inheriting a scary world. both of them are going to need to beef up their national security teams. because america has got to lead again. >> north korea, the south china sea, russia, not to mention iraq and seer yachlt one piece of advice, that you would give donald trump. he's speaking tonight.
2:55 am
>> you know, i would love to hear from his heart. i think that he often -- he talks about making america great again. he hits hillary quite a bit. i would take a cue from his vp nominee and really speak to the heart of why he's running and what he wants too do. i want him to give the american people a reason to vote for him tonight and not just a reason to vote against hillary. >> leave it there. good advice. thanks for being with us. have a good day in cleveland. >> thanks for having me. >> i also liked, you can't fake good kids. >> very true. the time now is about five minutes until the top of the hour. big day. the fourth and final day of the republican national convention. ivanka trump and the republican nominee himself. they're taking center stage tonight. a preview of the grand finale is next. hey, searching for a great used car? yeah! you got it. just say show me millions of used cars for sale at the all new carfax.com.

[gasps] this is the fourth and final day of the republican national convention and for the grand finale, we'll hear from the republican presidential nominee himself. donald trump taking center stage tonight to cap off the convention and officially accept the party's nomination. the theme? make america one again. primetime speakers will highlight unity and keeping america secure. trump will be introduced by his daughter, business partner, ivanka trump and also speaking
