trump campaign told him about 10 minutes prior to ted cruz going on they were told he was going to congratulate donald trump and members of the cruz campaign were trying to push him, cruz, to endorse donald trump as well. that didn't happen. >> what we all saw last night was donald trump once again demonstrated he was big enough to extend a hand to ted cruz and ted cruz showed he wasn't big enough to do it. he took a rope and hung himself. it showed a favorable light not just on donald trump but also on mike pence. mike pence following up after ted cruz looking so completely confused and just wrong i think mike pence was even better. >> consistent theme across the board was attacking -- or has

been attacking hillary clinton. more on that tonight when daybreak speaks. what do y -- when donald trump speaks. what will be the biggest attack on her giving you are a democrat. >> i think clearly the republicans have continued to attack her on the e ma ills and 25 years of regurgitated issues that the clintons have had. people don't want to hear what you are against. voters want to hear what you are for. that's the difference here. that will be the stak difference of what we have next week with the national democratic convention. we will have a positive vision in the future for the future. they are expanding social security increasing minimum wage and also college affordability. >> your final thoughts on that? >> well, i think they probably will talk about the future. the problem is the future she talks about is the fantasy.

other choice that's hillary clinton. she failed in it. we had 49 people murdered by isis inspired terrorist in orlando. that was horrible. i know the families, went to the funerals. we lost this young lady from bangladesh in miami. it is clearly here in america. it is not in some foreign country. isis is here, terrorism is here. donald trump will focus on destroying isis and no different than building jobs. >> we have to mention ted cruz. he was one of the speakers booed off the stage. he was failing to endorse trump officially. what are your thoughts on that? >> we want one candidate, it is donald trump. everybody needs to unify and get behind donald trump and make sure we have a big win.

i would hope everybody would get on board with donald trump and need to beat hillary clinton. they are not focused on both of the military or securing our borders. donald trump will do that. >> i like the frazer rick pence says vote for someone who signs the front of the check not the back of the check. >> you said we need a president who was not politically correct. there are a lot of folks that say that's what concerns them about donald trump including ted cruz you don't know what he is going to say next or do next. that makes it hard for them to support him. >> hillary clinton will have four more years of barack obama four more years of regulation. i am so frustrated every day. i deal with this every day.

we know what she is going to do. she has failed. she has failed. donald trump is going to be very focused. he's a business person. what do business people do? successful business people are focused on what their goals are. he is going to focus on making america great again. >> you have known donald trump before any one of you ever ran for office. how do you think governor pence will work with him and what will he bring to the table as vice presidential nominee. >> mike is a good friend and i like the fact that he's a governor. he has experience in congress. he is a clear conservative. he will be a great partner for donald trump. i think it is great he picked a governor of indiana.

>> i loved his self-depreciating humor when he joked about that. i was just really charmed by him. i thought he was warm. i thought he was very gracious to his nominee and i think this was really important about the vp presidential picks, that both hillary clinton and donald trump have to make. you need to have somebody who is going to openly not take the spotlight away from you and who is going to shine and focus on the candidate. pence's biggest strength last night as well, after a raucous speech before him, pence thought to calm conservatives and assure them this will be a ticket that governs in a manner. i thought this was crucial for trump in this convention. >> something else that has been front and center, at least throughout this convention, is the importance of family. governor pence talked a little bit about his upbringing as well. >> yeah. i love that -- >> for those of you who don't

know me, which is most of you -- [ laughter ] -- i grew up on the front row of the american dream. my grandfather emigrated to this country. i was raised in a small town in southern indiana in a big family with a cornfield in the backyard. although we weren't really a political family, my heroes were john f. kennedy and the reverend dr. martin luther king, jr. >> something that everyone can relate to there, morgan. >> i love when the camera panned to his mother. she seemed in shock and in awe that her son was being nominated to be vice president. those are the moments at conventions that i think really are the ones most emotional. you remember these are normal people with families. i also loved what pence had to say about dr. martin luther king, jr. and president jfk. why is that? it's because they delivered a hopeful message that inspired americans and quite frankly, i think this convention may have

been lacking that a little bit to this point until it came to pence last night. pence gave us a reason, americans a reason to vote for a trump/pence ticket as opposed to not voting for hillary. he knocked it out of the park by delivering a hopeful optimistic message. by saying this is what we'll get done and this is the tone we're setting for america. >> up next, hillary clinton going to announce her vp pick any day now. likely they'll speak at the convention in philadelphia. she wants somebody with experience. whoever it is has to debate against mike pence. how do you think she's thinking about it? >> that's a tough choice. pence is very likeable and warm. i think he'll come across quite well in the vp debate. the first role of the candidates choosing a vp is do no harm. they need to choose a vp who doesn't overshadow them or take the media away from them.

someone who respects her, who supports her and will let her shine. i don't necessarily see that being elizabeth warren. i could be wrong. but i think one of the reasons tim skain bandied about is while hillary clinton would like to run on her experience, unfortunately, that's full of benghazi, isis taking over and iraq under her tenure as state department head. so the whoever is the next president is inheriting a mess in the world. we've got civil wars in libya and iraq. we have north korea test firing rockets this week. that didn't get much play in the press considering what's going on in the convention. the next president inheriting a scary world. both of them are going to need to beef up their national security teams. because america has got to lead again. >> north korea, the south china sea, russia, not to mention iraq and seer yachlt one piece of advice, that you would give donald trump. he's speaking tonight.
