own. one officer killed and another wounded. a traffic stop turned into a gun battle. johnathon hunt joins us live from los angeles with the latest. >> reporter: melissa, a tense situation playing out in a residential section of san diego. several swat teams are in place. as you look live here, they surrounded a house in the southern part of the city of san diego. and they say a second suspect is holed up there. and we have heard them talking to the second via loud speaker asking him to come out peacefully. and he has not done so and this is an ongoing situation and the reporter hearing dozen flash bangs sounds an hour ago. but no more information on action by the police who ask us not to say too much about their

movementes on the scene. it started 11 o'clock p.m. local time. two officer from the san diego gang unit carried out for a traffic stop. they called for emergency back up. and they found two colleagues were shot multiple times. >> they were shot >> officers are working on getting the downed victim out of here. the suspect will be close by. >> both wounded officers were rushed to a nearby hospital, within hours, the san diego police chief delivered a tragic update. >> one of the officers was placed in the vehicle and taken to the hospital. heroic efforts by the officers
