money we raised in july. mr. trump appeared this week in front of crowds overflowing onto the streets. so the campaign is in very good shape. >> that said, fox news confirming a group of trump supporters, including rudy giuliani and newt gingrich want to talk the nominee into a drastic reset and that rnc chairman reince priebus is furious with trump refusing to endorse paul ryan and john mccain in primary battles. i also asked mr. manafort about that. >> there is to be some campaign intervention, people like rudy giuliani, newt gingrich, you and the trump children are going to sit down with your candidate and try to refocus the campaign. >> this is the first i'm hearing of that. >> meanwhile, donald trump and hillary clinton are both campaigning today in critical battleground states. clinton is in colorado on the heels of a bounce in the polls after her convention. trump is campaigning in florida. we have live fox team coverage.

mike emanuel with the clinton campaign in denver. we begin with senior national correspondent john roberts in jacksonville with breaking news on the trump campaign. he joins us on the phone. >> reporter: good afternoon to you. first of all, apologies not being able to join you on video. we are having technical difficulties this afternoon. you know, you saw there paul manafort down playing the idea that nothing is being missed. fox news told discussions are in place to put together some sort of meeting with donald trump, called a campaign, quote, intervention, fancy language for it, that people are using, but this is less than intervention, more kind of a bit of a strategy session. sources tell fox news that campaign staff, republican leadership, even his children are so concerned about things that he has been saying in the past 72 hours, about the kahn family, about republicans, comments about sexual harassment in the workplace and others,

that they need to urgently sit down with trump to talk about all of this and try to get him to stop saying things. one senior republican told me they're not sure or convinced trump isn't just basking in limelight of big public events, because he seems to keep doing things that assure he doesn't become president. how perplexed senior republican leaders are. i am told supporters put together a meeting. maybe it might occur as soon as this weekend, possible a couple of the trump children could be there. also mentioned newt gingrich, rudy giuliani, reince priebus would want to be part of all of this. as to whether or not even if they stage this call it an intervention, whether they can get trump to stop making tangential leaks to controversy that take him so far off message. one prominent republican telling trump to stop is like telling babe ruth to stop grabbing the knob on the end of the bat.

trump feels he is hitting home runs like babe ruth did. they believe it would be difficult. to the least, they need a strategy laid down for what direction this campaign will take after the labor day weekend. >> john roberts joining us by phone. thank you. just minutes from now, we will speak with gop vice presidential nominee mike pence about this. and meantime, hillary clinton hitting the trail in colorado, she's expected to talk jobs and economic plan at the largest investment and job creation since world war ii. more fox team coverage with correspondent mike emanuel covering the clinton campaign in commerce city, colorado. mike? >> reporter: hi, jenna. expect her to sell her $10 billion make it in america economic plan and expect her to take swipes at her rival, donald

in a tumultuous world, america needs the kind of stable leadership secretary clinton can provide. i urge all republicans to reject donald trump this november. meg whitman, latest big business name to come out in support of hillary clinton. >> thank you. the battleground states of florida and colorado loom large this november. prevention polling shows trump and clinton locked in a dead heat in florida but in colorado the former secretary of state is sporting a ten point lead. let's bring in glen hall, editor for "the wall street journal." we have to be reminded time and time again these are not really national elections, they're state by state elections. if you can pick up six or seven electorates from a state like colorado, does a lot to get you over the top. >> this is an electoral college. there's a map being done. they're trying to plot a path through the states to see which

ones are likely to yield the right math that gets them to the white house. they can't take anything for granted. what we are seeing from both candidates, john, they expect this to be a close race up to november, which is why hillary clinton has a strong lead in colorado, she's there now and is going to try to keep the lead. same thing with donald trump in florida. he has some home base advantage perhaps because of properties down there. but he is not going to take that for granted either and he is continuing to campaign in that state. almost no path to victory for donald trump if he can't win states like florida, pennsylvania and maybe ohio. >> colorado did vote for president george w. bush. it has been a purple state, voted for obama as well. why would hillary be ten points ahead in a state like colorado? >> yeah, a couple of things are playing out there in the sense that colorado's economy is doing fairly well. that's a problem for the donald trump message that the economy is broken. but also you've seen interesting

demographic shifts in colorado as tech centers of denver and boulder have grown. it is a more liberal, tensely populated part of the state, while the republican base is more sparsely populated rural areas. >> the unemployment rate in colorado is way better than national average. >> percentage point below average. strong message for hillary clinton. the programs in place under president obama are working. if you want this to continue, i'm your candidate. >> what about florida. donald trump did very well in the republican primary, beat marco rubio, the favored son, hometown son. does he stand a chance of winning florida? >> he absolutely has a chance of winning florida. i think he does well there. there's a nascar population in florida, the daytona, you have a population there inclined to support him. that said, hillary clinton is

now to breaking news. senior republicans are concerned about donald trump's campaign and reportedly considering an intervention, asking the nominee to do a reset. in one of the developments of a dramatic move, donald trump told "the washington post" he is not ready to endorse speaker ryan or senator mccain. unprecedented move for a party standard there at this point in the general election. let's talk about this with mr. trump's running mate, indiana governor mike pence.

great to have you back on the program. >> great to be with you, jenna, thanks for having me on. >> lot of different reports. we will work through it one by one. start with what happened with donald trump not endorsing paul ryan, speaker of the house. you're a former member of congress. what's going on there? >> i think what donald trump said, he is not there yet. these are two men building a good relationship and i'm very confident after donald trump is elected president and paul ryan is reelected to congress and speaker of the house, these two will do great things to restore the country at home and abroad. >> why after the exchange between them. >> takes time to have relationships. i strongly support paul ryan, endorse his re-election. he is a long time friend, a strong conservative leader. i believe we need paul ryan in leadership in congress of the united states to rebuild our military, to strengthen our economy, and to ensure that we have the kind of leadership in

this country that will make america great again. >> we understand your point of view on it, having the presidential nominee not being as forthcoming with that same view leads some to believe that the republican party is a little out of step with each other. is that the case? what are people to make of it? >> not at all. i talked to donald trump this morning about my support for paul ryan and long time friendship. he strongly -- strongly encouraged him to support paul ryan. bringing a party together after you know what was a competitive primary process. this is an extraordinary challenging time in the life of our country. i mean literally seven and a half years of barack obama and hillary clinton's policies have weakened america's place in the world, stifled our nation's economy. donald trump has a vision to get the economy moving again, to rebuild our military, stand with our allies, stand up to our

enemies, ensuring we bring everyone together on the team, going to continue to be a work in progress. it is all going to come together. i am confident based on crowds we are seeing. i was in nevada yesterday, i was in arizona. i am in colorado today. the enthusiasm out there across the country for donald trump's message and his vision is overwhelming. >> donald trump being who he is, is the reason why we are seeing incredible turnout and incredible crowds. now we're getting reports that john roberts mentioned that despite all that, perhaps there's some sort of intervention planned for donald trump this weekend, some other high profile republicans. what can you tell us about that? >> i talked to donald trump just about every day, and look, you're always going to hear inside baseball discussions. i never heard anything about a meeting of that kind. donald trump is off to florida today. i have town halls and rallies here in colorado. he and i will be campaigning together friday. this campaign is totally

focused, totally focused on strengthening america at home and abroad. donald trump has a vision. he has the candor and personal courage to be able to drive this nation forward and we've also got to do our part to make sure that the american people understand the disastrous record of hillary clinton and barack obama. i mean, i think most americans are reeling this morning to find out there was $400 million worth of cash that was delivered to iran at the same time they were releasing four american hostages. hillary clinton and barack obama have essentially put a price tag on the head of every american traveling abroad in violation of long-standing american policy about paying ransom, doing deals with terrorists. >> you heard from the state department on fox news a few hours ago, they say again this is not ransom, that the timing is just a coincidence, and

there's really no there, there. what's your reaction to that line from thestration? >> it is who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes. the fact of the matter there was testimony before the senate said there was no american cash involved and jenna, now this story breaks and i understand there's video about pallets of cash being delivered. in the last 24 hours, the ayatollah khomeini referred to relationship in american as deadly poison -- the foreign policy of this administration resulted in the wider arab world spinning apart. american people know that donald trump is going to provide the kind of leadership that will rebuild our military, stand with our allies, stand up to our opponents, and will confront and destroy isis at its source. >> the administration that hillary clinton was part of, it

is pretty dismal. if the american public don't believe you, how are other people like meg whitman saying i don't support donald trump, i support hillary clinton. >> people are entitled to their own opinions but not to their own facts. the truth of the matter is the president earlier this week talked about donald trump lacking the judgment to serve in the highest office in the land. i got to tell you, look at the judgment of this administration and hillary clinton as secretary of state. look at the decision to withdraw troops from iraq, jenna, without a status of forces agreement and create a vacuum in which isis was born and compromised large portions of that country that was security by american soldiers. you look at the disastrous agreement of hillary clinton instigated with iran. and look at benghazi where literally this administration left americans in harm's way. >> i only have a minute.

the list that you mention is a list a lot of viewers are familiar with. the question it comes down to, though, why do you believe donald trump would make better decisions than this administration? what does he offer the american people that is drastically different, something they can have confidence in that he will maintain good decision making leadership as commander in chief. >> what he's going to provide is leadership. under this administration barack obama and hillary clinton celebrated an american foreign policy that leads from behind. donald trump will lead from the front. he will bring together allies, he will rebuild our military, he will stand with those that stand with us, and he will confront and destroy those that threaten our freedom. i think that's the reason why we saw the huge crowds in reno the other night, why he is seeing huge crowds as he is traveling the country because the american people know a leader when they see it and they know that barack

george w. bush and fox news contributor. welcome to you both. >> thank you. >> what do you think? there has been election fraud in the past. donald trump says we should be afraid of it happening this time around. >> well, those that believe in rigged elections are the same people likely still looking for barack obama's birth certificate and this is just, you know, what donald trump is doing is playing to his base, playing to those that are paranoid, distrust government entirely. this is a sad story for our democracy. >> there are, former supreme court justice stevens made it clear in a majority opinion he gave saying risk of voter fraud is real, especially when it comes to close elections. i have to tell you it is something you're seeing in the sense of the voter id laws that have been passed and the fact is that an overwhelming majority of

americans agree you should have a voter id shown before you cast a ballot. there has been voter fraud in the past. you see undercover journalists show that this is the case that happened in several states. another thing pointed out, wired magazine wrote about this. the fact when you look at the voting machines, for example, their security systems are not up to date. they can be easily hacked. these are the realities we are seeing. all i think is we need to value the integrity of the election. >> when states like texas have passed voter id laws, brad, democrats generally have rallied to get them rescinded. why? >> we are not looking for more bar wreriers to get to the voti booth, that wasn't what this country was founded upon. i wanted to say it is not even worth talking about or debating really the rigged system or voter fraud because statistics

have shown over and over it is less than 1% of votes are ones that are improper. what really is the bigger picture is that donald trump could have been the next president of the united states. and very well should have. but some of these missteps and continuing to go down the road of bringing up nonissues like rigged elections which is setting himself up for losing because he is saying hey, if i lose. these are not talking points from an individual who could possibly become president. >> yeah, mercedes, it does have the sound of an excuse. >> i mean, look, you look at the democratic primary system and you're not telling me that wasn't rigged? give me a break. the dnc was involved in secretly aiding hillary clinton. there's something to be said about the fact seeing how the process worked in the primary, when you have many supporters outraged by the fact that the dnc was helping hillary clinton and basically attacking bernie sanders. so yes, is there a concern?

to make a very good commander in chief and i wanted him to have that medal in his hands to remember all of the people that have fought and died for this country. you know, cemeteries are full of people that fought and died for this country. you know, there's a lot of people walking around the streets with hidden injuries like myself, if you look at myself, you wouldn't tell i was injured. it is all internal. wouldn't remember that. >> what did you say to mr. trump when you handed him the medal? >> i asked him if he would accept this and remember all of the veterans that have fought and died for this country and that are still fighting the war like myself internally with post traumatic stress and i wanted him to remember that when he was commander in chief.

>> some have said that's not the real purple heart, that was a copy of a purple heart. can you tell us what is the truth? >> it was my real purple heart. i showed -- i had two purple hearts with me. my original in my pocket and i had another one that i was showing in case it got damaged, lost, snatched or whatever the case may be, i wanted him to have my real purple heart which i gave him. >> after you handed it to him, what did you think, were you happy you gave it to him? >> very happy. i had a very genuine look, moment, contact, eye to eye for just, you know, a brief moment with donald trump. and i felt he took it in the manner in which i gave it. it wasn't, you know, he was

making a statement that he got it the easy way, that's not exactly what he meant. he meant it was easier for him to take it from me than all of the people that earned their medal. >> i wanted to ask you a little about that. that's the news -- >> yeah, i been watching. >> the news that he said i always wanted a purple heart. some veterans are really taking issue with that. what did you think of his comments, what would you like to say to your fellow veterans? >> well, i was there and it was -- it has been taken out of context of what he said. they're not showing the before and the after. they're just showing what he said, you know, because he told me back stage how much of an honor it was and he really asked me, you know, do you want to give me this, do you want me to give it back to you on stage? he asked me, he said do you want

to say a few words. i said, you know, no, i don't want to say anything because you just keep saying what you're saying and i think that would be the best thing. >> why do you believe in him? >> i just think he would make a good commander in chief. i like what he says. i like, you know -- i just like his position on many, many different stories. >> any regrets? >> not at all. not at all. i am very -- i was very proud to give him that medal, not just for myself, it isn't about me, this is about all of the veterans that are carrying the wounds of the wars that we're in, past wars. >> that's a very profound gesture and wasn't lost on any of us. we appreciate you telling us a little about why you made that
