his mind and here's what he said. >> we need unity. we have to win this election. in our shared mission, to make america great again, i support and endorse our speaker of the house paul ryan. and we may disagree on a couple things, but mostly we agree and we're going to get it done. i hope in the highest esteem, senator john mccain, for his service to our country, in uniform and in public office, and i fully support and endorse his re-election. i also fully support and endorse senator kelly ayotte of new hampshire. we will grow our majority in the house and in the senate. arm in arm, we will rescue the name from the obama/clinton

disaster, which is exactly what it is. >> so he's changing his go it alone strategy some have called saying we need unity, we need the house and senate, and here's my latest effort. >> yeah. listen, he's had a tough week, end of a tough week, and he's probably saying, i got to do what i need to do to close ranks and consolidate my right flank. i have republicans coming after me after comments, my goal is to win, if my goal is to make america great again i have to focus on hillary clinton and the only way is to stop infighting so i'm going to do what i need to do. >> must have been a bitter pill, though. these people don't like him. couple are acting against him including the speaker of the house, disagree on basic questions about borders, for example, this has to hurt and politics is as you know the art of sucking it up, doing things you don't want to do, and being phony once in a while. >> that's what he's doing. >> not saying he's being phony but he is sucking it up and doing things a little differently than he did earlier in the week. you see him reading from the

script. not wanting to get this wrong. wanting to make sure that the party is unified and being able to take advantage of all the party's resources as well so that he can take on hillary clinton in november. >> absolutely. it's clear if he wanted to govern effectively as president he has to have a u.s. senate and you have critical senate raise he doesn't want to -- races he doesn't want to hurt. pivot into a new week. if this becomes part of the story on the sunday shows, a monday economic speech in detroit, his hope he can leave behind this week that was detrimental to him, where republicans were attacking him for the comments he made. >> never stopped attacking him. >> we're spending minutes talking about this morning and this should be a mere mention he endorsed the speaker of the house. >> sure. yeah. the speaker of the house has been going after him week after week. imagine the conversation between trump and his advisers. you have to endorse a speaker of the house. you're a republican, remember. trump says he hates me and want me to lose to hillary, we don't

care. >> was this a product of an intervention? there was talk of this. did that happen? >> of course. i mean of course the head of the rnc reince priebus was telling -- staff telling reporters they're enraged at the rnc that trump wasn't endorsing the speaker. this is a good sign. discipline is important. you can't always say exactly what you think just as you can't at a dinner party. no one will want to eat with you if you say what you think all the time. >> we've all held back. >> let us know your thoughts on donald trump's endorsements, be he was reluctant but did the deed. e-mail us friends yoi@foxnews.c >> meanwhile, hillary clinton has been on the trail, hasn't been a great week for hillary clinton either as she's tried to explain it and had to explain what she really did with her e-mail. she finally apparently answered some questions yesterday. we've got a few of the clips of what she has been saying time and time again about her e-mail and what she did with classified information. here's hillary clinton

yesterday. >> director comey said that only 3 out of 30,000 had anything resembling classified markers. the three e-mails out of the 30,000 did not have the appropriate markings. and it was, therefore, reasonable to conclude that anyone, including myself, would have not suspected that they were classified. so, what we have here is pretty much what i have been saying throughout this whole year and that is, that i never sent or received anything that was marked classified. what i told the fbi, which he said was truthful, is consistent with what i have said publicly. i may have short circuited it and for that i, you know, will try to clarify because i think, you know, chris wallace and i

were probably talking past each other. >> i'm not a robot, but i did short circuit. so funny if this was at her fake press conference in front of the national -- >> hasn't held a press conference since december and comes out before the audience. >> she has four preapproved journalists ask her fake questions. but it would be so funny to play that clip against comey's actual press conference where he spent the entire time attacking her and saying if it weren't hillary clinton she would be in jail right now. that's what i've been saying all year. comey and i are on the same page. >> just like she -- just goes back to the fact that the clintons seem to thing that they can do what they want, say what they want and almost speak things into existence. like her calling it a security review when it was clearly an fbi investigation. >> absolutely. >> security relaw. >> that was not a press conference, shouldn't count as a press conference. they plant a few questions. the first question, why don't you ever be answer questions from the traveling press pool

with you. she almost apologized. she said, i may have short circuited but for that i want to -- i'll try to clarify. there's no chance she would apologize. she ob vi skates. >> that was ed o'keefe from the "washington post" that asked that question. the first question from kristen welker of nbc, apparently their white house correspondent, and literally was, you just got endorsed by the former head of the cia. tell us how much you agree with him? in case you had any question about the press being fully in the tank for hillary, listen as she brags about herself and they applaud, for real. watch this. >> president obama does not get the credit he deserves for leading us out of the great recession. [ applause ] jorge ramos gets thrown out of a press conference for challenging donald trump. [ applause ] so we lost -- we lost a lot of the leverage.

"the wall street journa journal" reported earlier this week that payment coincided with the release of four american prisoners. the obama administration insists that the money was meant to settle a separate issue. in a mysterious death raising a lot of questions this morning after a bernie sanders supporter who sued the democratic national committee turns up dead. the body of shawn lucas was found in his bathroom just one month after this video was recorded showing lucas serving

papers to dnc headquarters. the 38-year-old filed a class-action lawsuit against the party accusing it of conspiring against sanders' campaign. as of right now police aren't releasing any details about had is cause of death. a controversial old video believed to show senator john mccain denouncing the united states while he was a prison offer of war in north vietnam surfacing to haunt his campaign. a man identifies himself as john sydney mccain and admits to committing crimes against the vietnamese to get preferential treatment. mccain's campaign responded saying he spoken about the false confession he made after days of abuse. no word yet who released that tape. the games have begun. the olympic opening ceremony kicked off in rio de janeiro celebrating all things brazle including supermodel gisele bundchen and came with a lecture on climate change, a video

hillary clinton finally took some questions from the press. her campaign called it a press conference, but it basically included hillary taking questions from two moderators and three journalists all preselected. julio ricardo varela the director at political media group joins us. thanks for coming on. >> it's a pleasure. >> of all the ironies baked into this the one that amused me the most hillary acausing her opponent of racism speaking to an exclusive group. did that occur that was a little ironic? >> i think it was a bigger issue. we're journalists so to say we're a racially exclusive group -- >> sure. i'm not attacking the journalists, i'm just saying if donald trump spoke to the white journalist association people would say wait a second now. why should journalists coalesce around a racial identity. aren't they there for the truth. >> tucker, donald trump was invited.

are you going to come to the belly of the beast. we are journalists. we're not going to sit here and go, you know, donald trump was invited and said no. >> right. i'm not [ inaudible ] -- if you take three steps back, a little odd, but here's my question, since you say there were journalists in the audience, now a couple of them, some of them are good guys, but the applause after hillary recited her talking points suggests an emotional connection to the candidate they're supposed to be covering, shouldn't that be out of bounds for journalists. >> the journalists i was with were not applauding. this is baked in, they are sort of like looking for jobs, like a job career as well. i'm sure there's a lot of like journalism students that clapped that are young, but, you know, where i was -- i was if the v.i.p. section, there was no around that clapped. i mean, i was -- i was like two rows in front of like ed o'keefe and my boss and i think it was a

mix. the campaign says it was a press conference. nabnaja said it was a conference with hillary clinton. hard to tell what it was but the fact that you're right, i agree in the fact that the questions that were asked, it really wasn't a press conference. you know, there was selected journalists, you get to ask a question, you know, my boss submitted a question that wasn't chosen. >> why did they -- i'm confused why did they put up with that? you're supposed to be journalists acting on our behalf. we don't get to ask hillary clinton, voters. those journalists had the opportunity to be in the same room. we're not playing with your dumb rules, we're going to ask you real questions and anybody who wants to ask can ask or you can't speak to us. >> you know, isn't that the bigger question. ed o'keefe said it best of the washington post before he asked his question, he said, secretary clinton, it's really great that you're here, but we encourage you to do this morning and

kind of failed and weak foreign policy that hillary clinton and barack obama have led and it's exactly the kind of foreign policy that american people want to see changed. >> can you speak to these rumors and speculation that there's divides inside the trump camp or divides inside the republican party undermining his campaign? >> donald trump and i are united in our determination to carry his vision, to make america great to the four corners of this country. >> most people on a national stage are just getting to know you. tell us something people might not know about mike pence, something they should know about you? >> well, you know, the most important role i'll ever play is a dad. i'm the proud father of a united states marine, but i'm just as proud of my daughter that just graduated from college and another that's still in school. you know, i was raised in a great big family, in a small town in southern indiana and our family is really the center of our life.

>> what does your son, young guys singh up for today, what do they look for in a commander and chief and what difference would they get between hillary clinton and donald trump? >> i think donald trump knows what the american people know, and that is that our military has been hallowed out in recent years. the truth of the matter is, the next president, the next president will need to go to congress and secure significant investments in our military. >> when you were in the running to be vice president, the story was told that mr. trump's plane wasn't working so he came over to your house. what's that conversation like when you say to your wife, honey, donald trump is coming over. didn't know that. what do we do now? what happened. >> well, it was a little bit challenging. it was a great moment for mrs. pence and me, i think. we got word late at night that not only was mr. trump coming to breakfast, but a number of members of his family, the kids would fly out to indiana and join us for breakfast. well, we don't have a big household staff at the governors

residence. a couple people helps us out there. it was late at night. karen just put me to work. we hauled the place out, put them on the table, set the coffee, arranged for breakfast and, you know, we served -- both of us served breakfast that morning to donald and his kids and it was a great honor to be able to welcome them to the governors residence. what you have in donald trump is a man who's built a global business a ceo and i will tell you, when he's talking about those who are serving in the military today or have served he's more passionate than any time i ever see him and he is absolutely determined to fix the va and make sure it works for all of those who served. >> sitting down with governor pence, he knows the issues, a disciplined articulate candidate. and loyal sidekick to donald trump. he emphasized from the podium and in person that he believes wholeheartedly in the mission, may have different approaches at times but the goal is the same. >> the message is the same, the style is so different. does it seem like there is tension behind the scenes? >> not that i could see on stage

november. there's a new report out in politico from major democrats in d.c. saying they're very concerned that party e-mails either from more from the dnc or hillary campaign could be hacked a month before the election by russia and that could hurt hillary's chances in the election. >> right. they're trying to get strong talking points together and even asking the president to take action if they do realize that it was, indeed, russia, that did all of this. i mean, you think about the beginning of the dnc and the chaos that it caused, right. debbie wasserman schultz getting booed, basically out of a job, and then donna brazile having to clean house, and bernie sanders' supporters going already the system is rigged just as we said from the beginning. very damaging and caused a lot of chaos. >> and caused a lot of chaos in october and there's little recourse they would have. if e-mails were released in october that -- of the 33,000 or that revealed there were coverups involved, any number of

things, it is the one thing the clinton campaign cannot control and likely the one thing they fear the most. and there's so many operators out there who could have had access to her e-mails or others, that they could be withholding because people are not idiots and choose to disclose in october, none of us want foreign governments hacking anything or anybody. the reality is, they could be out there and if you're the dnc that's in the back of your mind, if you're the clinton camp it's in the back of your mind. >> we have no idea who the hackers are at this point. the democrats are telling us they're the russians. it was red baiting the red scare and somehow all of a sudden, we're hearing from all the foreign policy experts who discredited themselves the past 15 years, by the way, the one thing we need to fear is not china or pakistan or countries that threaten us, or the saudis, it's the russians. so scary. >> and back to the election and president obama and him telling mitt romney he needed to calm the 1980s. agreed with obama on that a little bit. someone should explain to me,

i'm not defending putin who is kind of a fascist, but why is russia more a threat to me than china or pakistan or the saudis. no one ever attacks them. >> the idea also there could be an october surprise is very real. our producers were telling me julian assange from wikileaks was on bill mar's show last night and said they're trying to get this to happen. >> and how is hillary clinton's russian re-set button not responsible for the embolden of vladimir putin to begin with. >> it's all very confusing. >> we're going to try to make heads and tails of it. other stories, starting with this headline. police in chicago releasing never-before-seen video of a controversial shooting during a heated pursuit that left an 18-year-old man dead. well, police were chasing that suspect paul o'neal who was driving a stolen jaguar when he sideswiped a squad car and tried to escape. o'neal was shot by one of the officers as he tried to get away and did not survive.

the president of the chicago police officers union says this video should never have been released. he says it could be misinterpreted and spark outrage and put officers' lives at risk. what a terrible thing, though. again. the autopsy of the orlando terrorist has just been released. it reveals police shot omar mateen eight times. the report also revealing the gunman was not drunk or on any drugs during the rampage. mateen killed 49 people in the june 12th night club attack making it the deadliest mass shooting in the united states history. and she's back, disgraced dnc chair woman debbie wasserman schultz speaking out for the first time this morning since her resignation telling americans she knows who's responsible for leaking those e-mails. >> we had e-mails that were stolen, stolen by, you know, russian spies, and, you know, that really whipped so pane into a frenzy that it became a

distraction. >> wasserman schultz also insisting, despite dozens of video tapes, the florida delegation didn't boo her at the dnc. >> there were about 300 people at that breakfast and the overwhelming majority of the people in that room were enthusiastic supporters of me and my message. >> did you see this video? wasserman schultz iterates her re-election for the house of representatives. listen close or you might miss it. hillary clinton almost called donald trump her husband? >> and, of course, i hope you will compare what i'm proposing to what my husband -- my opponent is talking about. >> that slip of the tongue happening at the journalism conference in washington, d.c. she tried to correct it quickly but not fast enough for it to go unnoticed. and those are your headlines. i think pete is standing outside with refreshments.

got something for it. >> and you understand these deals, you've managed them before as you said. why does the word ransom, why does that matter so much? that's what they're fighting back against. they acknowledge the payment but not ransom. why do those words matter so much? >> and i think that's the key. that is the number one question of why americans really should care about this. and the answer is simply because it will continue to happen. since january, we already have three americans who have been seized. iran is trying to rebuild the inventory. they know what they can get now and they know that when they have someone like president obama negotiating on the other side, that it's an easy negotiation. they will get something for it, they will get an iran deal, they will get money. and by the way, this matters on the presidential race because hillary clinton absolutely supports this deal. she said i didn't really have a lot to do with it, but she supports it. she thinks that the tactics of how we got these guys back is a

mix, as long as donald trump wins three out of those four, he can still win the presidency and he's still right there right now. >> and in north carolina, 15 electoral votes up for grabs and it's a dead heat. >> very close race. and i would put that in the definition of a swing state. north carolina has become that ultimate swing state. demographics are changing a bit, but the two most important issues are the war on terror and the economy and donald trump has real advantages. he just needs to stay focused on the issues. >> and let's take a look at wisconsin. ten electoral votes up fro grabs there. voted democratic since 1988 and hillary clinton leads trump by 5.6. >> 1988, at this time george bush was actually trailing michael dukakis by about 17 points. so he's doing even better significantly better back then, but if you look at wisconsin

of the journalists clapped. i could -- i can tell you the working press was certainly too busy to be clapping because, you know, that's not our job. >> except it wasn't a conference like any other. these weren't software developers they were judgists and let -- journalists and let hillary clinton to stage a campaign speech and i wonder why you all did that. why not demand look you can talk to us, but we're journalists and demand the right to ask you real questions unfettered. why didn't you do that? >> that's right. that's right. well, you know, i was there as working press, as i certainly -- as i certainly didn't have have even time for clapping. you know when reporting you're focussed on your job. there are a lot of young journalists there, sort of a -- you know, the young journalists are there to get their next job and so on. i think they're going to learn a good lesson on being on the right side of the story whether, you know, reporting it or becoming the story. >> of course this wasn't a press conference and a press

conference there's questions and followups and you're calling on reporters. >> exactly. >> should the clinton campaign get away with spinning this as a press conference? i mean you're a member of the press corps. what was this really? were the questions prescreened? i mean r we being hoodwinked here. >> i certainly don't know if the questions were prescreened. they seemed sort of on the fly. but you're right, i certainly wouldn't call it a press conference. first of all a press conference, doesn't include the applause portion of the event. >> what do you think the fallout from this will be? anything? >> i don't think it's -- it's going to be very harsh. i think the one really good thing that's going to come out of this is these young journalists who were there, are definitely going to learn that lesson, that, you know, if you are a member of press you to behave as such. >> really if because the first question came from not a young journalist but the nbc white house correspondent and you can look at tape she literally said you were endorsed by mike morell do you agree with what he said, that's not a question, that's

we both know that we can make america great again. >> mr. khan, and captain khan, we don't need to rehash that, other groups, veteran groups, are calling for an apology for mr. khan. is this apology time or a media thing? >> donald trump and i believe captain khan is an american hero and his family like every gold star family should be cherished by every american. i understand the attention and it's been paid to captain khan and his precious family. what i don't understand is why many of the same voices in the media maligned and continue to ignore the families of the fallen in benghazi. >> you touched on the iran deal out there. the latest developments on the iran deal and the context of the deal, what do you make of that? what's the true nature of that financial transaction. >> the simple fact of the matter is we have historically as a nation said we don't pay ransom to terrorists or those who support them. we don't negotiate with terrorists. this is one more example of the kind of failed and weak foreign policy that hillary clinton and barack obama have led and it's

exactly the kind of foreign policy that american people want to see changed. >> can you speak to these rumors and speculation that there's divides inside the trump camp or divides inside the republican party undermining his campaign? >> donald trump and i are united in our determination to carry his vision, to make america great to the four corners of this country. >> most people on a national stage are just getting to know you. tell us something people might not know about mike pence, something they should know about you? >> well, you know, the most important role i'll ever play is a dad. i'm the proud father of a united states marine, but i'm just as proud of my daughter that just graduated from college and another that's still in school. you know, i was raised in a great big family, in a small town in southern indiana and our family is really the center of our life. >> what does your son, young guys singh up for today, what do -- guys signing up today, what do chief and what difference would

they get between hillary clinton and donald trump? >> i think donald trump knows what the american people know, and that is that our military has been hallowed out in recent years. the truth of the matter is, the next president, the next president will need to go to congress and secure significant investments in our military. >> when you were in the running to be vice president, the story was told that mr. trump's plane wasn't working so he came over to your house. what's that conversation like when you say to your wife, honey, donald trump is coming over. didn't know that. what do we do now? what happened. >> well, it was a little bit challenging. it was a great moment for mrs. pence and me, i think. we got word late at night that not only was mr. trump coming to breakfast, but a number of members of his family, the kids would fly out to indiana and join us for breakfast. well, we don't have a big household staff at the governors residence. a couple people helps us out there. it was late at night. karen just put me to work. we hauled the place out, put

them on the table, set the coffee, arranged for breakfast and, you know, we served -- both of us served breakfast that morning to donald and his kids and it was a great honor to be able to welcome them to the governors residence. what you have in donald trump is a man who's built a global business a ceo and i will tell you, when he's talking about those who are serving in the military today or have served he's more passionate than any time i ever see him and he is absolutely determined to fix the va and make sure it works for all of those who served. >> great to sit down with governor pence to know about him, his family, his values. it's clear the vice presidential nominee is standing firm with trump and ec echos his make amea great again. >> didn't get a sense at all? >> when the cameras were on and off fully dedicated and said hey my job is to take another approach to explain the same values that we have to make this

else, people have said you need to focus and get the full republican party behind you. and he's trying it. so at least give him credit to say hey, i'm giving ate shot and see if it works out. i have a hunch if the rnc was next week the convention, those people still wouldn't have showed up to donald trump's convention anyway. >> for politics you have to make accommodations and do stuff like this, good for him. he's pretending to like them. will they pretend to like him back? >> i hope so. but i don't think so. i think you have a bifurcated gop right now. that establishment wing will never get behind him. you want to see like the most telling reaction to anyone you've ever seen. ask one of these establishment republicans if they're going to vote for donald trump on air. i will tell you, you get a look like, why did you just do that to me and that shouldn't be the case. we should be behind the most conservative candidate that we can elect and that right now is
