afterma aftermath, remnants of a gas station completely totaled by fire. this is still an active scene. police have been taking evident and good samaritans have been cleaning and offering prayer. what we know is that police say at 3:30 in the afternoon yesterday, two officers stopped two men. we're not sure why they were stopped, but both of those men took off running. at the some point, the police officer shot and killed one of those suspects. police say that suspect was armed with asome point, the pol officer shot and killed one of those suspects. police say that suspect was armed with a stolen automatic weaponin i weapon. after that shooting, the rioting took out. eventually in gas station lit with three people inside, those people are safe. firefighters could not get to this fire because there was a lot of gunshots going off and so this thing just completely burnt to the ground. i want to bring in keith bailey. keith lives in the area. you say you feel that the

10:05 am
difficult. as a matter of fact, we can really nank social media for all of those people showing up there yesterday because what happened according to some published reports, there was this call for people to come done to thwntown area where the shooting took place and a lot of the individuals rye the on thing and protesting weren't even from that community.the on thing and protesting weren't even from that community. a lot of people actually care about that actual community and we saw it this baltimoin baltim ferguson, people that come from other areas and stir up trouble, they make it bad for those who live in the community not only for the citizens but police, as well. >> and as always, there is so much we don't know and there will be investigations. my understanding is that there will be two outside investigators outside of the police department that will investigate. that is supposed to be-of will and the mayor mentioned that there were body cameras on the officers. how much will all those things
10:06 am
help do you think in giving the community is accepts that, listen, an outside body is looking at this, there are cameras here, there will be a fair resolution? >> i think the cameras will definitely play a significant role in this investigation, but keep in mind, it will only be one part of the investigation. there is a lot that happens off camera that people don't typically see. but we need to wait before we ruch rush to judgment. so often we don't know the race of the police officers or victims. we've had rumors, but for people to be rioting, they are rye the on thing for reasons that they don't even know half the reason why they're rioting.the on thing for reasons that they don't even know half the reason why they're rioting. outside investigation always helps because it kind of takes onus off the police department. you have other individuals looking at it, the state will be investigating. so hopefully they will get to the bottom of this and i think they will. >> so from what we do know so far, the police officer was a 24-year-old guy, he's young, on administrative leave while they determine if he did the right thing or not. the suspect who was shot was 23
10:07 am
years old. we're told he had a lengthy arrest record, that he apparently was in possession of a stolen gun. it was a semiautomatic handgun. but i think about these two men being so young in this community face-to-face in a split second decision that is so critical in both of their lives for you. >> that's right. and the criminal, the suspect if you will, he was a career criminal even though he was only 24. this guy has a record a mile long like you said. the police were already familiar with him. they tried to make a traffic stop. they bailed out of the car. so the police it what any good police officer would to, right, they went after this individual. he turned around with a hand gun, refused to crop tdrop the they shot him twice. i would have done the same thing. to we want the police officers to continue to keep our community safe or look the other way with a blind eye? and in that same community over the past few days, they have had

milwaukee was not wearing a body camera. emergency crews have rescued thousands of people from waist-deep water, submerged homes and stranded cars in southern louisiana and the dangerous work continues. rain has pounded the state and flooding has already claimed three lives. at least another person is still missing. some roads are now open, but governor edwards says venturing off the roads is still way too risky. will carr is on the ground there in baton rouge. >> reporter: we're in east baton rouge. we're on a boat going through a neighborhood, this is one of the harder hit areas by these flood waters. and throughout the course of the day, we've been going, we've been seeing cars just like this. some almost fully submerged, some have water going halfway up. also we've had a number of people just jump in our boat, just asking to try to get to
10:10 am
safety because so many neighbors have been cut off by these waters. many of these areas got more than a foot of water in just a couple of hours over the past two days. as we come around this curve, i want to show you something that we've been seeing all day. this is really the only outlet for these neighborhoods for people to come to after they have been rescued on these boats. so we've seen dozens and dozens of residents coming up here, also their pets throughout the past two or three days, there have been at least 7,000 rescues. we've learned that 500 pets have been rescued and one in particular that we had video of, a woman her and dog were trapped inside of her car as it was going under water. three men helped her out. take a look at what happened. and one thing that has really made this quite difficult today
10:11 am
is that at&t service is out for the entire area. so a lot of people not able to communicate that they are in potential trouble. and with that in mind the governor is continuing to urge people especially after you've had at least three deaths here, he's continuing to ask people to simply get to safety. if you can, get out. if you see a boat, jump on it and get to safety. >> wow, i mean just heartbreaking to see all the people have lost even if they are fortunate enough to make it out alive. such devastation they will have to face if they can go back. will, thank you very much for the update. on to politics now as republican presidential nominee donald trump is off the campaign trail today, but his comment at last night's rally in connecticut are still echoing around the political sphere. trump took aim at bill clinton over his affair with monica lewinsky and squarely at the

even threatened to pull the "new york times" media credentials. is this issue of media bias in the campaign simply a fact that he has to live with or is bashing it and calling it out time and time again a good strategy? >> i don't know that it's necessarily a good strategy, but i have to say that i've never seen anything like this. they can't treat bush or romney like this. i have been a reporter and presidential campaign operative. he's right, the media has jettisoned credo of fairness, they see him as daenkro rousdae they want him to lose. we have 86 days to go and he has to learn to make this a referendum on hillary clinton and win the media coverage. >> ben, i'll give you a chance to respond. even one of the media editors of the "new york times" penned a piece basically saying just what ford said, that reporters are throwing out their independence because they believe it's their duty to go after trump.

one, the issue of a immediate are a bias against a conservative candidate which we saw during bush and romney's campaigns? are we also dealing with a candidate who some we diplomatically say says some troubling things and gives the media all the rope in the world to jump on it? >> absolutely yes we are seeing bias in the media, we're also seeing a candidate that does not understand what the strategy is to win in a general election and that is again to win the media coverage, not dominate. he needs to get out there, make his message, explain why he's better for america. he needs paid tv. he's not doing that. >> if he if he does that, can . it change the conversation? >> if it bleeds, it leads. donald trump made other people bleed, that was the story. now he's bleeding that's the story.
