devastating 6.2 magnitude quake is now responsible for at least 37 deaths including a number of children. >> you're looking live in amatrice, italy. amy kellogg is on her way. she is live on the phone tracking all the breaking news. amy, what can you tell us now? and what are we up against as it comes to the death toll? >> reporter: actually, it was just a handful overnight, but what i will say is we're approaching amatrice, we're not there yet. we have a couple of miles. the cruel discriminative nature, it is beaucolic, clear, there is no evidence of anything. the only evidence we have are close by, a number of vehicles that are heading in the other direction. >> pretty bad connection, amy. i can't make out what you're saying.

we'll wait until you get a little bit closer. >> right. she was talking about how she's in transit right now. some of the people, the mayor of amatrice said the town isn't here anymore. it simply has disappeared. >> imagine if you're a parent and you know your child's underneath all of that, your loved one is, you don't have the equipment to get them out. you do what these folks are doing, you pick off one piece at a time and try to find the ones that you love. >> ainsley, there are certain areas in the world that are used to earthquakes. they have a financial wherewithal like los angeles, the empire, they'll put the buildings on the rollers and do the best to survive a 6.2 to 6.7. this area is not used to earthquakes. >> no. this part of italy was built many years ago in instances. there have been so far 39

"new york times" a possible target of a russian cyber attack. the hackers breaking into an unknown number of journalist's e-mail accounts. other u.s. news organizations targeted. it's likely the same attackers who were behind the dnc cyber attack that brought down debbie wasserman schultz. it's unclear what type of information was stolen or why. the clinton campaign has claimed the dnc hack is proof that the russians are trying to get donald trump elected to the white house. well, president obama finally visiting flood ravaged louisiana days after donald trump was already there. the president talked to residents and toured devastated neighborhoods while he deflected attacks from trump who claim the president's visit was all for show.

when donald trump does not make the news in negative ways, people are able to look at hillary clinton for a long time he's been swamping her bad news and doing her a huge favor but brain fallon pushed back on the stats. he said it's outrageous to misrepresent hillary clinton's basis for meetings with these individuals. he called it a disstarted portrayal of how fast she connected with them. >> the story -- they only released half of the records. if they have a problem with that, release all of the records. >> let's get specific then. in the case, for example, of an indonesian businessman who has referred to hillary clinton's office by doug band who's her husband's body guard. when huma abedeen takes the e-mail and sets that up. there are billions of people in the world. 55% of the people who she meets with have donated?

what's the explanation? >> if you ask james cargill, he says if the foundation is shut down, then people will die. if you look at the stats in 2013 -- >> people will die. >> -- they raised $141 million. they only spent $9 million on the trekt grant. >> that's the number right there. that's the number, ainsley, 140 million according to their tax returns, 9 million went to direct grants so the point isn't simply that it's corrupt, it's that it's ineffective. it's a bad charity. if you had a choice between giving to the clinton foundation or the tens of thousands of money around the world. >> you want to look for 85%? you want the money that the charity makes to go back to the people. >> so you should ask james, whom i love, name specific ways that the clinton foundation has actually helped people. not just convincing drug

it's beyond belief. and all these people -- first of all, they're not supposed to be setting up meetings. take a look at what's happening? take a look at bahrain or wherever it may be, they get a lot of things for this. those meetings didn't take place to say hello. those meetings were -- they want to talk turkey. these people aren't there to say it's a wonderful day, the weather is beautiful. and you just follow up those meetings whether it's missiles or planes or maybe something personal. lot of things happen from those meetings. >> i went to indiana on thursday to interview governor pence and be with his family. i had all these messages saying you were going to baton rouge. we delayed our interview. i want to hear about that experience and what you thought about the president going four days later. was he doing that because you set a precedent? >> well, he went very late. he could have left his golf game. he could have played early. could have played early and gone in the afternoon. i expected that would happen.

george w. bush. first off, over the last two weeks, karl, you've been a tough critic of donald trump in the past. do you think that they've gotten on track? >> i think they're going more in the right direction, yeah. i thought he had a good week last week. giving speeches from teleprompters, so he could drive home a message for that day. i thought the visit to louisiana was entirely well done. low key, focussed on the people there. didn't try to make a big splash with it. as a result, made a big splash. >> sure. >> i think the new management team, at least kellyanne conway, seems to be moving things in the right direction. >> yeah. karl, it came out today, 85 of the 154 non-governmental individuals who have access to hillary clinton while she was with the state department, they were also giving money -- they were donors to the clinton foundation. what was your reaction about that? >> pretty jaw dropping because realize this is only the first

two years of her -- only half of her term as secretary of state and half of the private individuals, more than half of the private individuals who show up, are contributors to the foundation and they gave over $150 million at least. this is after in january 2009 at her confirmation hearing she promised the senate foreign relations committee that she would avoid even the appearance of conflict. this strikes me as a big conflict. these were in some cases pleading for self interest. she appointed, for example, a guy who was a commodities trader in chicago. she was so -- he was totally unexperienced. totally unqualified and immediately forced to resign. but what was he this year? superdelegate for hillary in philadelphia. >> what are the odds. karl, right here outside one hour ago we had james carville on. of course he's been with the clintons for a decade. yesterday he said that if people stop giving to the clinton

foundation, people will die. he also today defended the clinton foundation and talked about how the clintons have never taken a penny. listen to this -- >> hillary and bill and chelsea clinton never taken a penny from the foundation, given it millions of dollars. the board serves without pay. it's a five-star rated foundation by charity watch. one of the best run foundations in the world. now, the idea that people involved in the foundation are also involved with public, private partnerships around the world, that's one of the things they do. so of course -- this does not count as the list pointed out, doesn't count heads of state of people in government -- >> so he's got no problem because they're doing some good work, according to him. and charity watch. >> well, charity navigators, a group that evaluates charities, criticized long ago criticized the foundations for spending too little on programs and too much on overhead, including some $40

million to move the clintons around the country. now, he may be right that they haven't taken a penny, but their lifestyle has been subsidized by it. and i believe chelsea clinton is actually now on the payroll of the foundation. look, this is stinky. sure they do good things. but they do good things in a bad way and in a way that makes it sound like it's quid pro quo. remember the canadian guy who gives several hundred million dollars, he does so after bill clinton flies on his airplane to kazakhstan in order to convince the kazak government to give him some concessions. he buys significant amount of uraniyuuranium assets. all the why giving money through a canadian front group to hide the names of the individual donors even though she said she would be completely forthcoming about every single donor in the foundation. now, look, this provides too many opportunities for conflict or at least the appearance of

i'm standing next to a sign amatrice, one of the most beautiful cities. this city is devastated. people are in tears. they're in shock. what i find really interesting sort of as a side bar is that this surrounding areas are completely in tact. here i know there are different areas across central italy that have been affected. you look to one side and there are houses up right and on the other, just mounds and mounds of rubble that came down over people's heads at 3:30 this morning as they slept. it is absolutely devastating. streets here are choked with rubble and glass and nails and wire, making it incredibly difficult for those rescue and recovery personnel to get through. the hospital here had to be evacuated. it's falling apart from the earthquake. there are hospital beds and equipment all over the streets. they have to be taken somewhere

we are joined with kennedy, 23 months old kennedy right there and her 7 month old sister charlotte. along with one of the officers who rescued kennedy matt rush. good morning to all of you. >> good morning. >> good morning. >> brian, let's start with you. what happened to your boat on friday night, 10:30 p.m. >> so we were traveling north on inner coastal waterway. we were heading back home. we had some relatives, my father and mother in town from pennsylvania and we had gone -- taken the boat out to meet them for dinner. we were heading home. it was dark. and we hit a guide wire from one of the power poles that crosses the river and it overturned the boat and put us all in the water. >> okay. so you're all in the water. the boat is overturned. it's pitch dark. tammy, at what point did you

realize you were missing kennedy? >> immediately. i woke up in the water holding charlotte and i saw the boat upside down and i knew i didn't see brian and kennedy. so i tried to get kennedy -- tried to get charlotte on to the boat quickly and then brian popped up on the boat and pulled her up and helped me up then we knew that kennedy wasn't there. >> and you had no idea where she was. and then you placed that 911 call which we just heard a moment ago. officer rush, let's talk about when you joined the search. tell what you say you heard eventually. >> eventually when we received the call or when i was already in the water? >> tell us about once you were in the water and you heard -- you heard baby kennedy. >> we heard myself and another sergeant heard the baby crying

underbeneath the boat. i dove out on a boat that we were in the water earlier. once we heard the crying underneath the boat, myself and the other sergeant got in the water and were looking underneath the boat, trying to clear it, find out where she was. once we located an actual spot on kennedy's position, i moved over and i went under water. came back up. and went back underwater again. i did some blind sweeps feeling the back of her leg. i came back up again and took another breath and went back under and that's when i pulled her completely out of the center console of the boat and pulled up ut out of the water where she was turned over to the sergeant. that was on our rescue boat. >> thank you very much for doing your job. >> absolutely. >> officer rush nat, that baby

columnist who broke the story. infiltrati infiltration. paul, tell me about this journal. what types of things are written in it? >> well, i found one article where the mother actually wrote an article arguing for the sub gentlemen gags of women and actually excuses wife beating. in another article, i found she actually blamed america and american foreign policy for 911 using the same excuses that osama bin laden used against us. >> so what about the linkage with huma? she was listed as an assistant editor? >> yeah, for 12 years from 1996 to 2008. and so, it's -- i mean, it's really hard for the campaign to reconcile this. they admit that she actually was on there, but they're saying well, she actually didn't do any

editing which is hard to believe because even if you buy that excuse, huma had to know how ode yoes this radical journal was because her mother was the editor and her brother and sister worked there as editors. >> so on top of that there is a linkage besides huma abedin, didn't hillary clinton speak -- didn't she have an event in saudi arabia where she addressed women? >> yeah. so if hillary had to know too about this. she went over to saudi arabia in 2010 as secretary of state to give a speech to the mother's radical -- >> you can't see it, but we're seeing her enter into the building with the mom and with huma. >> so she went over to this radical girl's school that's run by the radical huma abedin's radical mother and actually apologized for american women wearing bikinis. so i mean, is hillary really this champion of women's liberation? i mean, this is very problematic for the campaign because it's the centerpiece of it is hillary
