and it is a series of stum wels that could set her back. >> up to this point, she's run a cautious campaign. she was up ten points in the polls coming out of the democratic convention and now it is a tighter race despite the cautious campaign. do the events of the weekend overall change the tenor of the race? >> without a doubt it has certainly changed the ark of the race. and we should caution, you know ten days ago, we were saying man, things could not get worse for donald trump and here we are, man, things could not get worse for hillary clinton. and that's the nation for the entire race since the beginning particularly with the republican nomination side. and but yeah, no, i think these

problems are real self infected wounds. it is very bad as absaid. and the people don't trust the clinton and polls don't think that donald trump is particularly honest all of the time. but the problem for the clintons is, they have been involved in this stuff. and around forever in politic and involveded in so many scandals and the e-mail stuff. it is hard what all of the details are are and the people would fail multiple choice test on what the particulars are about all of it, but they know it is a scandal and all of the scandals with the clinton's self- serving actions and then the willingness to lie literally about anything. someone made the point earlier, if hillary clinton could have

through diplomacy rather than war shut down iran's nuclear program and opened up a new chapter with the people of cuba and brought 200 nations together around a climate agreement to save the planet for our kids and grandkids. that's what we have done. by so many measures, america is stronger than when we started out on the journey together. in fact, some of you may have seen the new report out today, showing that last year across every age, every race, in america, incomes rose, and the poverty rate fell. in fact, the typical household income of americans rose by

$2,800 which is the single biggest one year increase on record. we lifted 3.5 million people out of poverty. that is the largest one year poverty drop since 1968. the uninsured rate, is the lowest it has been since they kept records. the pay gap between men and women, shrank to the lowest level ever. so, so, now, let's face it. republicans don't like to hear good news right now. but it's important just to understand this is a big deal. more americans are working. more have health insurance. incomes are rising. and poverty is falling.

and gas is $2 a gallon. [applause] thank you for reminding me. thanks, obama. [applause] [cheering] now, so, the steps that we have been taking over the years are are paying off. we've shown that progress is possible. and of course, none of this was easy. we knew all along that change was not going to be quick. we knew can we would not meet all of our challenges in one term or one presidency. but we are here, we know we have more work to do for every worker who needs a good job or a raise or a decent retirement or every child who needs a world class education and a ladder are out

of poverty and every family who hasn't felt progress. we have work to do, we know that. and the choice that you make, that we make, just eight weeks from today, will determine the direction of this country for a long time. and i have already said this. this is not a choice. this is not the usual choice between parties and policys and left and right. it is it more fundamential. it is a fundamential choice of who we are as a people and the very meaning of america. you know, democrat and republicans, we have always had our differences, there is nothing wrong with. that debates and different ideas and compote and see what makes us work.

but what we've seen from the other side in this election, this isn't a bra hamelin con's republican party. this is not even a division of freedom that ronald reagan talked about. this is a dark, pessimistic vision of a country where we turn against each other and turn away from the rest of the world. they're are not offering serious solutions but just fans serious resentment and hate. that is not the america we know or i know. the america i know is full of courage and optmistism and ingenutty and invasion. we worry about paying the bill and protecting our kids and

caring about a sick person and all of the washington grid lock and racial division. there are pockets of america that never fully recovered from the factories closing down. there are parents worry figure their kids will have the same opportunities they had. but look, i travelled in every state. and i have seen more than anything all that is good and right about america. i see is folks starting business and teachers, just digging in their own pockets to buy school materials. i see men and women in uniform serve issing their country and making sacrifices and engineers inventing new stuff and doctors

with new cures and the younger generation that has ideas, held back by old ideas. imagine what can be instead of what is. old ideas. what can be instead of what is. who ultimately believe we're stronger together. all of us. young, old, men, women, native american, folks with disabilities, all pledging allegiance to the same flag. that is the america i know. that is the america you know and believe in. >> well, you heard the outgoing president there putting down donald trump and pumping up his secretary of state that he hopes to succeed him. now we're taking you to a donald trump rally in clive, iowa now
