there like that. >> we have headlines to get to this morning. we begin with a fox news alert four police officers shot down in the line of duty in two separate cities. philadelphia and fort worth. first, in philadelphia where sergeant sylvia young was shot at least 8 times while chasing a suspect. police say that suspect then shot four innocent people as well as another police officer named eddy miller. sergeant young and officer miller expected, though, to be okay. the suspect was shot dead. and in fort worth, texas, two officers responding to a suicide call were shot and returned fire, killing that suspect. both officers had surgery overnight and are expected to be okay as well. and terrifying moments on an amtrak train as a man with a gun pair cadz himself inside the bathroom. the train ordered to stop just outside los angeles. cleared more than 100 people off the train. police had to use tear gas to get the man into custody. luckily, no one was hurt. and donald trump and hillary clinton are the only two candidates facing off in the

welcome back, 52 days until the election. the race between donald trump and hillary clinton closer than ever. brand new fox news polls out this morning taking a different approach. now they are surveying likely voters instead of registered voters. are they more accurate? here to weigh in is real clear politics founder tom bevan. likely voters. i know it sounds like a dumb, obvious question. what exactly are likely voters? >> likely voters, it's a screen that pollsters put on their questionnaires to find out who is likely to vote. and they do that by, usually by asking you if you have voted in past elections. that's one of the biggest dermers of whether you are going to vote in this election. also ask people on a scale of 1 to 10 are you likely to vote and only people who answer a 9 or 10 are included in this likely voter screen. most pollsters are using this likely voter screen as we approach the final

stretch of this race. in our real clear politics average 10 polls and 86 them are using likely voter screens. take. >> take a look at the poll with that margin of error it's a dead heat right now. the clinton camp has got to be worried about that. >> sure. i mean, we have seen this, the fox poll and a number of other polls confirm this that this race has tightened it is very close. certainly at the national level and some of these battleground states where trump has actually moved ahead in some of the latest polls. this race is close. very close at this point. >> yeah. even in a two-way race trump 46 nkt the clintons 45. take a look at the electoral map. the road map. people are saying donald trump has to pick up a number of the romney states including the ones that he should have probably locked up and pull off also a few of the obama states. where do you see him picking up the likely states here from president obama? >> so he has got about 10 states that were close in

2012 that are considered the battlegrounds. in 2012 obama won 9 of the 10. this time around, obviously, he has to keep all of those -- all the states that romney won in 2012 and add the big three are florida, ohio, and pennsylvania. if trump could do that, he wins. he will get to 270. that's his cleanest path to getting to 270. but not necessarily the easiest path. he has moved ahead in florida and ohio. pennsylvania, still, his -- hillary clinton has a lead there of, you know, 3 points to 5 points in the latest round of polls. >> so, if he does not win pennsylvania but he does pick up florida and ohio, what's the path then? >> so he has got to make up those 20 electoral votes somewhere else. and where can he do that? well, nevada is one place where he is within a half point. within one point of hillary clinton there. and then you look at states like colorado is big. iowa is a state where he is ahead right now. and, you know, new hampshire is another state where he is

trailing by a few but, the path definitely gets trickier if he is not able to win pennsylvania. is he going to have to cobble together those 20 electoral votes using a combination of the smaller states. >> places like philadelphia, though, voted overwhelmingly for president obama. chances there, though. and the up part of the state could move trump big time. we will see.

hey, juan, great to sea you this morning. >> good morning. i'm in rainy pensacola. this is trump country down here in west florida. >> you read the "new york times" this morning. they are trying to make it sound like trump was threatening violence against hillary. and any normal person knows, whether you agree with it or not, that he was making a point about her hypocrisy. no guns for you but i get guns to protect my family. that annoys trump and a lot of people. why pretend that was encouraging violence when it clearly wasn't? >> will, i think there is a little history here, tucker. remember, trump at one point said the second amendment people could take care of that and interpreted as suggesting that potentially people who are gun owners would deal with hillary if she got elected or something like that. again, it was a stretch because i think in that situation trump really was talking about the activism of gun owners, which is well known in political circles. they are very strong activists and advocacy

group. again, given the violence we have seen at trump rallies and all that, i think it plays up that theme. >> i know, juan, the media are being dishonest. they are. they are rooting for hillary against trump and drying on purpose to get her elected. don't they undermine their credibility when they do that? >> i don't think they are lying. i think that they are putting out, you know, one version of what people fear from donald trump. i think that, you know, the question is dues in your article or in your broadcast you are doing this morning, listen, a lot of people think donald trump is just making the point that hillary clinton is a gun control supporter and that, in fact, she has armed guards 24/7 and has since she has been first lady of the united states. let's not forget. so i think people appreciate that we get both sides of it. but i don't know that i would say oh the media is lying. >> juan, do you think that there is a concern withen the clinton camp that this thing is slipping away from her? we were talking about this a little earlier. this someone who has been

preparing for a run for years and years.ot the electoral math on her side. here she is going up against donald trump. doesn't nearly have the ground game, the money, anything that she has. you look at the polls that garrett tenney was talking about. it really was neck and neck. even he is up in some of the swing states including the important state of ohio. one n. one poll up by a points. is there a real concern there that this might be slipping for her? >> so i have been traveling the last few days, abby. i think democrats around the country are coming down with maybe what was giving mrs. clinton the sniffles last weekend. i think they are feeling a little weak in the knees there if you get my point. anxiety and dread. for the first time, you hear people saying oh my gosh, can i see that donald trump might win this thing on the democratic side. now, you know, let's be a little bit fair here and cautious. and understanding what's going on. the basic elements of the race has not changed. you know, it's more that -- it's less that clinton is losing support. it's more that donald trump is duaneing support.

especially from republicans who might have been, you know, uncertain about whether they were going it support him. he is consolidating that base. and i think that's pushing up his numbers. but if you look at the electoral map that you referenced, you know, she still has an advantage if you look at the election models that we in politics use. she is still favored but just not as much. and that's what's causing democrats to have a little case of the shakes, early halloween fright night. >> what does hillary clinton need to too then? if you were advising her the debate just a short time away now, all eyes on that first debate and then we have two more after that. what would you be advising her to do to steady the ship? >> well, i think she has got to change the narratives, what tucker was talking about earlier when he was saying there is so much media bias out there. look, so for the last few days what we have been talking about is mrs. clinton's health. you know, and going back even to the deplorables comment. we heard garrett talking

about how that's become a meme at trump rallies. you know, to suddenly you have a shift. could it be that people now start talking about trump and violence on the gun thing or people talking about, oh, what about trump going back on his birther comment? did he mean it or not? this brings back a lot of attention and not positive attention on trump. that benefits the clinton campaign. so, for them, they want to get back to that focus on the questions about trump's temperament, his leadership. they want the focus there and the second thing is that mrs. clinton is making an effort now, inside her campaign very clearly emphasizing here's what she stands for as opposed to just being opposed to donald trump. >> so the clintons have taken so much heat recently for their foundation and for their relentless fundraising for spending all of last month with rich people raising money. it's hurt her. i think everyone would agree, democrats agree. what do you make of bill clinton's 70th birthday party last night. star studded event.

$250,000 to be a participant in this. why are they doing this? this looks like addiction to me. they can't stop fundraising even when it hurts them. >> this is so interesting to me. when you talk to the clinton people there have a strong sense that they are being maligned that the clinton foundation does good work. i don't think there suspect question they have done good work on h.i.v., malaria and all of that we are a charity. a highly rated charity. and oh, we are getting just beaten up on all the questions. the fact is that the image of that foundation and the possibility of quid pro quo deals between people who are donors to the foundation and mrs. clinton while she was secretary of state just is politically toxic, tucker. it just doesn't sit right with lots of people. and, again, speaks to the whole very difficult issue of mrs. clinton's trustworthiness and character. that's why i think it was done kind of, i wouldn't say in secret but on the sly. that's why there was not a

>> she didn't come out and say she was sick because she was worried about the fact that she was a woman. >> no. i think it is a trite and unimaginative reach doe flect americans away from the real problem. the reason why her health is an issue is because she could potentially be the next president. that is the reason why. woe want to make sure that the next president can actually do the job. >> claudia, you are nodding your head. >> i'm nodding my head. >> do we care about the health of the next president is. >> thank you for having me. i'm a mom, i'm a woman and social worker. i think we should care about the health of them but i also believe there are things going on, i'm sorry, i also believe that as a woman we have to be conscious of our health and, you know, it's also coming off the comments that women or people that support trump are in a basket of deplorables. i think that the health and also that -- i'm a hater so i don't appreciate that comment that you add that with the health issue. >> she is the first woman nominee for president, jozy.

is she getting special treatment because of that? i think that's the real question here. >> that is exactly the question. it's not about being a many with. it's about entitlement. as a woman, is she entitled to get special treatment as hillary clinton more importantly? >> right. >> i feel like -- i think historically she has been brushed upon, as far as the looking at the facts. we haven't been looking at the real picture and where -- that's all i have to say. >> what are your thoughts? >> unfortunately, i think that whether -- if this had happened to trump, right? >> exactly. like the camp would be like saying oh, there is -- his health would be the one that would be scrutinized. the thing that is interesting for me here is what is the press not talking about because they are so obsessed with hillary clinton's health? right? and it deflects from us talking about real policy concerns and issues in this election. >> but her health is a real issue because what we saw on

that video is very disturbing. not only does it seem like her campaign is falling apart. now it seems like she herself is falling apart. that is a real issue. pause we see these people get into office one day, the ne a ton of gray hair. it's a stressful job. can she do the job. >> toughest job in the world. you brought up, nell, policy and how we have got to focus on that. this has been a the hough talk over the last few months about donald trump and struggling with the woman vote. courtney, he has been making an earth as of recently especially with his daughter ivanka talking about the importance of a woman's role a mother's role in changing system of the policies that we have. is he doing better, do you think, than the media lays out? >> i think. so and i think he is certainly doing better than some of the republicans in the past. i think women and moms especially are happy to hear that he is talking 'maternity leave. he is talking about, you know, updating the flexible spending account, to be a dependent care account, so you are not losing that benefit.

it's actually extending beyond the working parent to all people that want to take advantage of it so i think that's a great thing. i, for one, i have lost out on that where i -- if you don't use it you lose it. >> you guys all know firsthand what it's like. >> research shows that attachment parenting and building the bonds and the mother and child first six weeks if that's something he can do to build the family structure and make the families stronger that's going to be preventative. >> hillary clinton's plan is still much more comprehensive thamp donald trump's is. is he only offering women what is it six weeks? she is offering 12 to 14 weeks. >> how do we even know since we haven't even seen her, she only graces those paying high ticket plates. >> been out there so much with ivanka and hearing about this the last few days. do you think, josie, he has been under estimated recently with how women feel about him? >> i do. and, in fact, i think that trump's plan is an effort to attract democrat voters.

five-hour workday. so you have a successful company and you told your employees to figure out how to condense work into five hours or move on. why? >> yeah, we were operating like a start-up, but we're a lifestyle company, we have to live our brand a little more effectively. we're going to switch to a five-hour workday, we're going to do it for three months and go back to regular hours. five-hour workday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., no lunch. and you basically are going to figure out how to do your job, everything you were doing before in those five hours or you'll be fired. so put pressure on them, but on the other side i'm giving their life back 1:00 to 11:00 at night every day in the week they have a workweek better than most people's vacation week. >> what's the advantage of this for you as an ploiemployer? why are you in favor? >> this is how i've been working for about 10 or 15 years. all of my entrepreneurial friends, everybody i know is thriving in the economy right now is getting into work, getting their work done and getting out of there. >> so just for our viewers who may be confused by the concept.

here are your rules for how to work less but achieve more. >> this goes in a lot of company things like 80% of your profit comes from 20% of your customers. 80% of your problems come from 20% of your customers. >> that's for sure. >> if you apply this to your time, like if you're spending eight, ten hours in the office, there's two to three critical hours in there. there's really producing all of your output. and if you analyze what your inputs are and outputs are and what you're doing on a daily basis and you basically eliminate those eight hours that you're just wasting your time and you try to double down on what it is that's really moving the ball there. that's how you increase productivity. >> question though. >> sure. >> it seems like it would be great to have a lot more free time, but aren't we sort of put here to achieve something? i mean, maybe sitting on the beach or paddleboarding isn't the purpose of life. maybe you should spend a lot of time working toward making the world better, for example. >> sure. that's a good philosophical question. i would say the point of life is not work. we're not economic slaves put here to just work.

i would say that work is basically this thing you do to finance your life. and your life can be, you know, whatever you want to do. and some people are very ambitious. and they want to work more. this is about creating a new baseline for workers and then they can use their other time to do what they want. me, i'll go off and start another business. i like to work, right? some people like music. some people like -- >> wait, you're going to work five hours a day but then start another business and work another five hours at that? >> sure, sure. i mean, this is about what you have to do and what you want to do. >> right. >> and work should be like you do what you have to do to finance the rest of your life. and if you want to, you know, volunteer in your community or coach little league, you should be able to do that. that is productivity in america, too. we're too focused on the gross domestic product and we should be focused on the gross happiness product because it's about increasing quality of life or nobody would work at all. >> that's interesting. what an interesting book. i don't know if i'm sold, but

>> by our standards of young people. so you kind of get what trump is saying. he's saying this is hypocritical and it's part of a long pattern of hypocrisy. so she's against carbon footprints but flies private, for diversity but sends her daughter to sidwell, et cetera. >> et cetera. >> she has armed men around her. why is the press making it sound as if he was calling for her assassination? >> he wasn't calling for her assassination, he was lazy. he was linguistically lazy. and they're going to bust him on it because, well, because they're going to. but in addition to that he requoed them yesterday, as somebody said, he tricked the press yesterday into it was a trump triumph. he fooled the press into coming and giving him an info mer shl for his new hotel in washington and covering a lengthy rally where former -- where retired military officers endorsed him, something that would have never gotten the kind of coverage it did. so in the end he could execute his flip-flop on birtherism.

so they're mad, so turnabout he tricked them, now they're tricking him and so it goes. >> so here's what the "new york times" said. they said donald j. trump once again raised the speck tor of violence against hillary clinton suggesting on friday that the secret service agents who guard her voluntarily disarm to see what happens to her without their protection. is this a matter of the media not fully listening to what he said and being a bit lazy about it? because we all heard the statement he made. it was pretty clear what he was trying to say there. >> well, let's make no mistake -- >> they might not have been the best words he could have used, right. >> make no mistake that was sloppy. he should do better than that. i understand the philosophical point. this is exactly why his new handle handlers, why he has a pollster in charge of his campaign, why he's on a more disciplined message, because you don't leave the door open for people who are not going to give you the benefit of the doubt to make things out of what you say. this is why he should stay on teleprompter, why he should be the disciplined candidate that

he is as garrett was mentioning earlier the race is back to being close and he needs to stay in it. >> you talk about having a disciplined message. we heard after hillary clinton's pneumonia break that she took over the weekend that she was going to come out and talk about families and children and that was what the focus of the campaign was going to be going forward. >> no. >> and then you have her campaign responding to trump and calling him names and going back into that mess again. we thought maybe there would be some elevation from her side. is she still on message, or are we changing back again? >> you and me both know what the rest of this dadgum campaign is going to be about, and that is going to be these two human beings who are not well liked by the rest of the country trying to make the other one less likable even still. this is going to be a heinous race to the bottom as these two campaigns try to destroy one another day after day. >> to your point you always want what you can't have. michelle obama was out on the stump for hillary clinton and things got a little bit awkward when the crowd started cheering for michelle instead of hillary

clinton. watch this. >> it is so hard to believe that it is less than two months to election day. and that my family is almost at the end of our time at the white house. yeah. it's almost time. and let me say, i have to say -- no, no. >> four more years! >> you can hear them, they're shouting four more years. chris, does this highlight the biggest challenge that clinton continues to have, just the lack of excitement even among her own base? >> well, yes. so double edged sword here. when you bring out -- michelle obama is very popular. and she is beloved obviously by democrats, but she's broadly popular too. she and her husband are keys to hillary clinton's hopes of generating enough base enthusiasm because as polls continue to show, donald trump's

support remains steady. he doesn't go up, but he doesn't go down either because his voters are out for him in force. hillary clinton has a lot more slack in the line because younger voters and minority voters continue to be skeptical of her as their champion. so she needs the obamas to do this for her. but as they come out, as you say, it reminds folks that, well, she's not her. >> yeah. so just to the race generally, i'm reading this piece in new york news the other day, i know, i'm the only one, and in it there's a coat from fleischer quoting, trump's not going to win -- virginia's over. we know that. so i go to the rcp numbers and i see actually virginia has thinned the margins to three points and trend lines are hillary straight down and trump straight up. doesn't mean he's going to win, but should we start thinking what we think we know all the dumb people posing in washington as smart people have been telling us? >> hey, leave us dumb people posing at smart people alone. i got tuition to pay.

i got tuition to pay. no, look, i would say this, the race is close in a lot of states. it's closer in texas than we thought. it's definitely closer in arizona, georgia and a lot of places. here's why. these are two candidates functioning at the bottom of the register. they're both in the low 40s. this is what you see in an election where you have 20% of the electorate that is saying either neither or someone else. and that is indicative of a dissatisfied electorate. and i think a lot of states look closer than they probably are because people are refusing to make their minds up because they're dissatisfied. >> chris, sadly, i'm a podcast junkie. >> man. >> i listen to podcast constantly. when i learn you and dana perrino launched a pod cast during the dnc or around that time, i immediately subscribed and i loved it. now they're taking this podcast, i don't know what they're thinking. they must be crazy. they're putting it on television, right? tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. >> uh-huh. it's true. and i was really encouraged by all of the moves that i saw

survived. the shooter tried to get away but not before opening fire on another officer and four civilians before he was shot dead in an alley. well, he left a note leading investigators to believe he was targeting police and on purpose. and in ft. worth, texas, two officers were shot while responding to a suicide call. they returned fire killing that suspect. both officers had surgery overnight and luckily are expected to be okay. and a sinister plot to assassinate two congresswomen foiled by the fbi. investigators arresting a tennessee man who was trying to kill congresswoman tulsi gabbard. the 35-year-old planned to fly to honolulu on november 1st and open fire in a courthouse. apparently he was angry over not receiving disability. more bombshells revealed this morning in e-mails leaked for former secretary state colin powell this time claiming israel has hundreds of nuclear weapons pointed at iran. in an e-mail to a close friend, powell writes, quote, the boys in tehran know israel has 200,

for the world, you know, we're still dealing with a republican controlled congress. he still would have as president have to deal with congress that seems intractable. can't get anything through there. is he going to be able to do that? >> you're right about the congressional numbers. we know both agree on infrastructure spending as a spark. but ultimately i think if you take your message to the american people, you will get pressure because there are two schools of thought. i think the democrats essentially have said to the american public, we peaked as a nation. now let's find a way to share in what's ever out there, let's share the wealth. i think what donald trump is talking about is going back not a virtuous cycle federal reserve fueled but animal spirits, the dna that sort of made us the greatest country in the very first place, the roots of this country. we need people to understand that they should go out there whether it's the garage tinkerer or whatever, go out there and start these businesses. but they need to bein

incentivized. tack of paperwork and once you do that get taxed to death and once you do that you're ridiculed. we've been dissin ce disincenti. >> he's talking about lowering taxes by $4.4 trillion, 3.5% gdp growth and adding 25348 new jobs. when you read those numbers, charles, how should we think about that? is that even possible? >> let me put it to you this way. there's a statistic we don't talk about a lot, we should. it's called employment-to-population, the ratio the highest it's ever been is 64.7%, this is in april of 2000. if we were at that level right now, we'd have 13 million more jobs. at a level that we've achieved before in this country. we wouldn't get 25 million in a four-term, but over a two period, two-term period under the right circumstances, i think 25 million jobs is certainly attainable. >> interesting. >> but again, we got to get back

wow, terrible story. one of the most dangerous terrorists at gitmo says saudi arabia recruited him for the 9/11 attacks. he's an expert bomb maker telling u.s. authorities he was directly contacted by saudi royalty while training to be a pilot in the u.s. with two other 9/11 hijackers, this despite the country's claims it had nothing to do with 9/11. also, ohio governor john kasich is making it very clear he probably will not vote for donald trump. >> is it still possible that you could vote for donald trump? >> very unlikely. >> okay. >> too much water under the bridge. >> and it did not stop there. governor kasich also said he wasn't worried about being blamed if trump lost in his home state of ohio. he also said he wasn't voting for hillary clinton either. and is not going to tell anyone who he's going to vote for. we'll see what happens there. hillary clinton has been called a lot of things, this morning she can add, quote, style icon,

vote. he needs the moderate -- the militant moderate vote. >> and to your point there's a lot that he could work off of already including the deplorables comments that she's made more than once, tim kaine even spoke on that. let's take a listen. >> there are some who are motivated by darker motions. they're not in accord with american values. i mean, when you have david duke doing robo calls telling people to vote for donald trump, which he did just a couple weeks ago, that is highly troubling. and she was basically saying some of donald trump's voters are motivated by these dark e emotions. >> all trump has to do is focus on his economic message and point to this. point to the fact she's turned off half of the electorate. i mean, that's all you got to do. >> yesterday i started seeing t-shirts, i'm deplorable, or deplorable this or that, or deplorable me. it was a wonderful angle that he could really work. there she's an elitist.

eight years ago steve cohen was elected congressman from memphis. good guy. he tried to join the congressional black caucus because he has majority black district. they wouldn't let him in because he was the wrong color. they are a racially exclusive group. for them to lecture anybody about racism it's too much. >> i think on congressman cohen you have a fair point. and i think that they are not immune from criticism. but when you are going to michigan and trying to say in flint, for example, that you know now mexico can drink the water and we can't, mexico builds the cars and we don't, that's good stuff. now going to detroit and say i want better schools for you, i want better policing for you. that's good stuff. and then to go with this birther stuff again, which is delegitimizing the first african-american president, you stick it to every black person and every college kid that cares about black people whether they're white, black, brown, red or yellow, it is -- i think, again, it's an example of an unforced error that he didn't need. and i'm telling you, this is my

prediction. by monday afternoon the polls will have begun to swing back to hillary clinton. he has succeeded in blunting his own momentum and taking the pressure off her and the sneaky way they handled her health crisis, her frailty, her pneumonia -- secret pneumonia and all the rest of it. he took the focus off her, put it back on him. and i think that he now needs to restart next week staying on message, the economy is this, ford's taking small car production totally out of the united states to mexico, the transpacific accord is one-sided -- you know, stick to that message that has been resonating historic upset in the offing. don't blow it. this is like blowing it. >> you mentioned the poll numbers, and this is where we're at. it seems like the media is trying to cover every other story but what's going on in the

polls. tucker was showing us earlier this morning the real clear average, the trend lines. you look at the momentum and how just given the last two weeks really has trump moving upward and hillary clinton moving the opposite direction. and you look at the two candidates. hillary clinton has been running for president for years and years. she's got the foundation, the ground game. she's got the money. look at donald trump, he doesn't have any of that. why is the media not focused on the polls right now and just the reality that it is neck and neck, especially in these swing states? that's a big story. >> but i heard tucker say accurately he's straight up and she's straight down. that's what trump should be talking about. i'm going straight up, she's going straight down. but when you distract people with the stuff -- when you allow "new york times" to get cheap shot headlines, trump who promulgated the birther stuff now claims it was hillary, falsely, politifact false 16 pinocchios. >> easy headlines for them. >> easy. you're giving cheap shot to your enemy. >> geraldo, we'd love to get you back outside in lederhosen
