>> tweeting should be taken seriously and people will take you seriously. he tweeted exactly that, that they invented the concept to help their manufacturing base. so she is correct. later on after that tweet when he was confronted on it, he said it was a joke. mr. trump uses high per bow lee lee -- hyperbole, but the learning kunk is when you are running for president people will take you literally and seriously. it is true. at the same time whether or not mr. trump is saying that he was being serious, of course, then is the issue. >> here is that tweet from 2012. this was donald trump tweeting on global warming. the concept of global warming, he wrote, was created by and for the chinese in order to make u.s. manufacturing non-competitive. >> this is similar in a sense
1:18 am
like even tonight, and some people were fact checking the other statement seriously where he said you've been fighting isis your entire adult light, using the absurd to highlight it is the fact it is a never ending war. that's not true. she was born in this year and she is '68, she couldn't have been -- he didn't literally mean it. but this is where i think people realize when you're the president, i don't think we're used to hyperbole to the degree mr. trump using it, and maybe we will be learning to deal with it a little more i think. >> taxes, this is one of the top trending subjects. hers will create millions of jobs. listen to this. >> independent experts have looked at what i've proposed and looked at what donald's proposed, and basically they've said this, that if his tax plan, which would blow up the debt by over $5 trillion and would in some instances disadvantage
1:19 am
middle class families compared to the wealthy, were to go into effect, we would lose 3 1/2 million jobs. >> that was a big one there. we would lose jobs because of trump's tax plan. true or false. >> she has an expert who allegedly is independent who said that. there are also some experts who said the opposite. both campaigns can find people who, of course, will confirm their positions and glow up the assertions of the other campaign. >> right. >> so, yes, that's true with what she is saying, the some experts dynamic in a straw man sort of way, but i think you have people saying his plan is accurate and would help. this is what the american people though are responding to, they want a genuine answer and they want genuine change. i think they're realizing they want the change agent i think in this instance. >> the great tammy bruce at 4:20 in the morning. thank you so much. >> thanks for having me. >> heather, over to you. >> as clayton said it is 4:20 here on the east coast, very

1:24 am
i would also do everything possible to take out their leadership. >> you were there and you were secretary of state when it was a little infant. now it is in over 30 countries and you're going to stop them? i don't think so. >> terror taking center stage last night as each canned tries to prove that they have the best plan to keep america safe. >> who had the better argue. here to way in is contributor pete hegseth. >> good morning. >> said donald trump needed to get specific on the case against isis, what is he going to do to go after isis. who more broad strokes. who do you think had a more effective argument. >> donald trump needed to pass the commander-in-chief test, isa he the type of person you want to hand the keys to. i think in that sense he did. he was able to present a persona not over the top, didn't look rash, and he was able to point out that, hey, hillary clinton hasn't gotten the job done and she wants to tell us what we
1:25 am
can't do against isis as opposed to what we should do. that said, he didn't add a lot of details to his plan. his plan has sort of been for a long time, hey, i'm not going to tell you what it is but i'm going to be overwhelming in the way i prosecute it. most americans can relate to that understanding. he didn't add a lot of details. if i'm an undecided voter watching the debate, i'm probably not choosing my candidate based on isis stance but not looking at trump and saying he can't do the job. >> something else they tackled obviously is safety here at home. listen to what hillary clinton had to say about retraining officers. >> when it comes to policing since it can have literally fatal consequences, i have said in my first budget we would put money into that budget to help us deal with implicit bias by retraining a lot of our police officers. >> good solution? >> no. i mean policing and borders and the international security and the threat we have from radical
1:26 am
islams, what we need to do with our police officers is not to support them or have their backs but retrain them to be more racially sensitive is tone deaf to an american public that say, listen, there's some mistakes but ultimately they do a great job on front lines, they'reth i enemies that want to come here. i want to support them, not tell them they're the bad guys in need of retraining. i thought it was a misstep for her but overall, you know, as far as who supports the police and the perspective on that, i think donald trump comes out pretty well in debate it like this. >> well, he announced last night he had just received the endorsement of the fraternal order of police. >> yeah, he made a point of calling that out at the beginningçó there. pete, great to see you this morning. >> thank you. >> will be joining us later. thanks, pete. >> thank you. the time now is 26 minutes after the top of the hour. the candidates take the stage pushing their big, bold plans for a better america. the more we can do for the middle class, the more we can invest in you. >> my tax cut is the biggest

1:30 am
. it is tuesday, september 27th. fireworks and punches at the first debate between hillary clinton and donald trump. >> yeah, both knew the stakes couldn't be higher and it showed of course on the stage. you've been doing this for 30 years. why are you just thinking about these solutions right now? >> i've been a senator, donald. >> you haven't done. typical politician, all talk, no action. >> i call it trumped up trickle down because that's exactly what it would be. >> we have no leadership, and, honestly, that starts with secretary clinton. >> i'm going to be blamed for
1:31 am
everything that's ever happened. >> why not? >> why not. yeah, why not. >> he has a long record of engaging in racist behavior, and the birther lie was a very hurtful one. >> i will release my tax returns when she releases her 33,000 e-mails that have been deleted. >> so a man who can be provoked by a tweet should not have his fingers anywhere near the nuclear codes. >> getting a little old, i must say. you started the iran deal, that's another beauty. when isis formed in this vacuum created by barack obama andñi secretary clinton. when it was a little infant, now it is in over 30 countries, and you're going to stop them? i don't think so. >> tried to switch from looks to stamina, but this is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs. >> i have much better judgment than she does, there's no question about that. i also have a much better
1:32 am
temperament. >> whew! okay. >> ah temperament. mike ee manual is on the clinton campaign side. >> but we start with john roberts on donald trump's big moments. good morning, john. >> reporter: good morning to you. hillary clinton brought a big bucket of bait fish and was chumming the water trying to get donald trump to take the bite. he did on a several occasions but he also got in digs against hillary clinton, hitting her for support for nafta which her husband signed into law in 1993. hitting her for support of the trans-pacific partnership, but hillary clinton hitting back at his about business practices, talking about his bankruptcies and there were several occasions where he didn't pay contractors what they believed they were owed. what this exchange. >> he built a lot of businesses on the backs of little guys. and, indeed, i have met a lot of the people who were stiffed by you and your businesses, donald.
1:33 am
i'm certainly relieved that my late father never did business with you. >> it is all words, it is all sound bytes. i built an unbelievable company. what she doesn't say is that tens of thousands of people that are unbelievably happy and that love me. >> donald trump hit hillary clinton several times last night for all talk, for being all talk, no action, saying it is just words. also hitting her over the idea of not allowing companies to repatriate money they have overseas without being heavily taxed for it, saying it is all her fault. listen to this. >> i have a feeling by the end of this evening i'm going to be blamed for everything that's ever happened. >> why not? >> why not, yeah. why not. you know, just join the debate by saying more crazy things. now, let me -- >> there's nothing crazy about not letting our companies bring the money back into the country. >> a lot of people of course thought that donald trump won the debate, probably as many on
1:34 am
the other side think that hillary clinton won the debate. how did reince priebus, the chairman of rnc feel about it. ? our brian kilmeade talked to him immediately after the debate. here is what he said. >> i thought he looked presidential. i thought it was the main question on the table tonight. i think he did really well. >> i think though that there are some republicans who think donald trump missed a few opportunities, particularly on the e-mails, benghazi. he mentioned the e-mails once but, heather and clayton, a lot of people think he should have come back to it more times than he did last evening. >> it was a small amount of time on the e-mails last night. john roberts live for us on the trump side of things. while hillary clinton slamming quote quote, as unfit and unprepared. >> she also had a lot to say about tax returns. mike ee manual live with that. good morning, mike. >> good morning to you. one of the highly apartments pated topics you guys could talk about were hillary clinton's e-mail controversy.
1:35 am
at one point donald trump said he would release hisñr tax retus if hillary clinton came forward with her missing ee males during time as secretary of state. clinton tried to quickly dismiss the issue. >> i made a mistake using a private e-mail. >> that's for sure. >> and if i had to do it over again i would obviously do it differently. but i'm not going to make any excuses. it was a mistake and i take responsibility for that. >> clinton and her team have pounded donald trump saying he lacks the temperament to be our next commander-in-chief. here is how clinton applied that in terms of our national security. >> his cavalier attitude about nuclear weapons is so deeply troubling, that is the number one threat we face in the world and it becomes particularly threatening if terrorists ever get their hands on any nuclear material. so a man who can be provoked by a tweet should not have his fingers anywhere near the nuclear codes. >> after the debate clinton and
1:36 am
her husband left the arena pretty promptly. she went on to a viewing party with some of her local supporters. then her aides took over and essentially said that donald trump was unprepared and lacked discipline. >> i have to be honest, we were surprised by the donald trump that showed up tonight. i mean this is the donald trump that we saw all through the primary. i think anybody that had concerns about donald trump heading into the debate only had those concerns height ened. >> clinton invested a lot of time and energy in debate prep, taking time off the campaign trail. her aides seemed happy with the preparation that went into last night's big showdown here at hofstra. back to you guys in manhattan. >> thanks, mike. >> the candidates take the stage pushing their big, bold plans for a better america, but were they specific enough to convince voters? here to weigh in democratic ohio state senator and gop strategist. thank you both for joining us this morning. it was a long night.
1:37 am
>> absolutely long. >> so, capri, i will start with you. did you hear enough specifics? >> well, as a self-proclaimed policy wonk you never hear enough specifics. i think neither of the candidates in my opinion had a breakout performance. what we saw was essentially 90 minutes of each candidate presenting what they've been presenting at their individual rallies, but on the same stage. so, you know, as i said yesterday, i think that one of the things that we really did need to see from mr. trump was, you know, putting some meat on the bone to his policy proposals. we did -- certainly did not see that from mr. trump. but, you know, on the flip side i don't think that secretary clinton provided, you know, a lot of -- a deep dive when it came to the specificity for her policies, certainly in comparison to what mr. trump provided it obviously was much more extensive, but, you know, the american public needs to get
1:38 am
as much information as possible. yes, it is only 90 minutes and a lot of this is theater and show, but ultimately we have to make a decision, at least in my humble opinion, based upon the policies that these two individuals would implement along with congress should they be elected. >> all right. so, david, what do you think? enough specifics from hillary clinton versus donald trump or either one? >> both were specific in what they talked about and showed a command on the issues with ultimately trump be the winner of that. the most critical point of any debate, particularly last night, was the first 30 minutes when people are really tune willed in. those were donald trump's best minutes. those were when he made a very forceful case for his economic policies, whereas, hillary clinton certainly kept her base fired up with many of her attacks on donald trump but they've spent $200 million attacking donald trump with those messages and what has happened? trump has actually consolidated
1:39 am
his republican base, started winning some independents, and now he's leading in many polls in a couple of key battleground state's including capri's own ohio. >> and i'm not denying the lead potentially that donald trump has in my home state and in my home community, frankly. >> all right. thank you both for joining us. we're going to have you back. a little quick segment there, just a tease for what is ahead. thank you so much for getting up with us this morning. >> thank you. >> we will see you in a little bit. >> 39 minutes past the hour. president obama's name came up several times during the debate. no shock there. >> under president obama we've lost control of things that we used to have control of. >> but our next guest says the winner had to prove he or she was different from the president. so who did? who did a good job of that. we're going to analyze it coming back. >> and somebody bring back the fact checkers. can you spot what's wrong with this sufficieouvenir ticket. i thought it was a joke.
1:40 am
1:43 am
secretary, is it president obama's fault? >> there are different -- >> because he's pushing it. >> remember where we were eight years ago. we had the worst financial crisis, the great recession, the worst since the 1930s. that was in large part because of tax policies that slashed taxes on the wealthy. >> the obama administration from the time they've come in is over 230 years worth of debt, and he's topped it. yesterday our next guest claimed each candidate had to prove they were different from
1:44 am
president obama. who made the best case? >> joining us against, morgan or tag yas, thank you for joining us. >> thanks for having us. >> which did the better job of differentiating themselves? >> i think they both lacked specifics on what they would do against isis in the middle east. however, i think trump clearly conveyed a different tone and temperament from what we've seen from president obama over the past eight years. as i said yesterday, this is a different job for hillary clinton because she can't run te helped create. i think some of trump's toughest lines against her were the ones in which he talked about some of her failed policies in iraq, syria and libya. these are lines that are quite damning against her and the administration. i think overall what we need to hear in the next two debates are more specifics from both of them on what their plan is for isis. we know from hillary clinton she has said in previous debates no new troops on the ground in iraq, afghanistan or syria, and
1:45 am
trump said he has a plan he is not sharing because he doesn't want to give it to the enemy. i understand the logic there. i think at a minimum the american people need to know are you going to send my sons and daughters to the middle east again, and if so what's the strategy to defeat isis. the problem is when you say you're not going to send troops to iraq and syria, when hillary clinton says this, it begs the question what are you doing different than president obama is doing now and i didn't hear an answer. >> did she defend herself -- she knew donald trump was going to come after her on these points, that you were a member of the obama administration. was she able to defend herself well enough? >> that is the toughest response for her to come back to. i think that was part of the night that i felt was strongest for trump, when he talked about the $6 trillion we spent in the middle east. it is hard to come back because it is her record, because these failed foreign policy actions in syria, iraq and libya with withdrawing the troops, that's her record. if she is going to deflect the
1:46 am
hard punch she has to say how her plans are different from what she pursued with her first four years with the obama administration. >> she also spent time on the iran nuclear deal which was discusses add well. >> i pushed for sanctions against iran and getting middle eastern governments to work with us on that. i think as we saw we have seen iran not abide by the plan. again, i thought it was a good moment for donald trump to go after her on helping -- begin the negotiations on that agreement. however, i think in the next two debates he needs to be more specific about how he would implement the agreement. she actually kind of shied away from the plan last night. i think she knows it is not a winner with a lot of the american people. they're very doubtful about iran getting away from this. she shied away from taking credit for the iran plan. >> 4:46 in the morning. did you get any sleep? >> a little sleep. >> highly articulate for 4:46 in
1:47 am
the morning. >> full of hot air. >> excellent. we will check in with you later. >> a long night for a lot of folks. time now is 10 minutes until the top of the hour. could the next trump merchandise we see be tissues? >> the hilarious reactions on social media to donald trump's sniffles. >> i can't make fun of him with that because i have a little bit of a cold going on. >> donald, i know you live in your own reality. >> secretary, you have no plans. >> i have a book about it, it is called "stronger together," you can pick it up tomorrow at a book store or airport near you.
1:52 am
. social media all fired up about last night's debate. moments? clayton's tracking it all for us. this is my favorite segment every -- you know, after election event. so what is up, clayton? >> i was laughing last night sitting on the couch watching twitter, watching the trender topics. the trump campaign took to snapchat, that's where all of the talk is, on snapchat, and rolled out filters starting with a crooked filter on debate day, which had hillary clinton as the -- you know, crooked hillary, of course, the term that he coined. also on snapchat they rolled out their balloon filter and debate night filter. so the trump campaign up on stuff on snapchat. who would have known? guys, if you were watching social media last night, everyone was wondering what in the world was going on with donald trump. did he have some sort of a cold, was he sniffing? he didn't appear to have a cold. this was donald trump last night.
1:53 am
he was sniffing the whole time. >> perhaps we will be talking about that later. our country is in deep trouble. they're the best, the best ever at it. we have to renegotiate our trade deals. let me give you the example of immediate co. it is a defective agreement. why hasn't she made the agreements better. >> you remember al gore sighing the whole time? this is the new al gore sighing last night. jay jay kincade tweeting, seriously, somebody get donald trump allegra, here was another tweet. could he have caught hillary's pneumonia? that was one of the trending topics, sniffles. people would know how to spell hillary popular you would think. someone had a ticket for hofstra university, this is your only job to print the tickets and you can't spell the candidate's name
1:54 am
properly? hillary has two l's. printed it on the ticket with one l. with the hollywood support hillary clinton has. jessie tyler ferguson tweeted this, hill ore's eyes must sorry. then john cusac, what he would do if he lived in a swing state, i would vote for hill areary, w one l. hiller with one l. two l's everybody. there's your social media reaction last night. heather. >> the ticket will be worth money though years from now. we have been asking for your favorite debate moment and your responses are pouring in on this one. the overwhelming favorite was this line from donald trump. >> i will release my tax returns against my lawyer's wishes when she releases her 33,000 e-mails
1:55 am
that have been deleted. as soon as she releases them, i will release. >> shannon e-mailing her favorite moment, every single time trump drove home that hrc has been a career politician yet has been unable to accomplish any of the ideas she is running on. >> whether it is the iran deal, whether it is anything. you almost can't name a good deal. i agree, she's got experience, but it's bad experience. and this country can't afford to have another four years of that kind of experience. >> we are at -- >> keep your comments rolling in on this one. we'll continue to share them. >> well, the time is now 55 minutes past the hour. the candidates clashing as tens of millions of people watched. we have no leadership, and, honestly, that starts with secretary clinton. >> i'm going to be blamed for everything that's ever happened. >> why not? >> why not, yeah. why not. >> so what did the voters think about that? we've got some brand-new dials

30 years. why are you just thinking about these solutions? >> i have been a senator. i have a plan to fight isis. >> you are telling the enemy everything you want to do. no wonder you have been fighting isis your entire adult life. we have no leadership. that starts with secretary clinton. >> i am to blame for everything that has ever happened. >> why not? >> why not. >> i will release my tax returns against my lawyer's wishes when she releases her 33,000 e-mails that have been deleted. as soon as she releases them i will release. >> he has a long record of engaging in racist behavior. the first was a hurtful one. >> when you try to acted holier than thou it doesn't work. you have seen me. i have been all over the p
