crash. >> swarming the scene to try to figure out how there was a crash at the height of rush hour. >> the impact killing one person and injuring more than 100 others. let's get to david lee miller live at the scene with new information that is breaking overnight. hoeb wokhoe boek ken across the river from new york city. >> the train station behind me completely shut down. it is going to remain that way indefinitely as this massive investigation continues. a train originating about 30 miles away in spring valley, new york barrelled into the station at a very high rate of speed. should have slowed down to less than 20 miles an hour.

it was not the case. it slammed nude a concrete and medical barrier. the car flew into the air killing one person. that person identified now as a 34-year-old mother of one. she was standing on the platform after just having dropped her child off at daycare. she was killed by the debris. as many as 108 others were injured. 250 or so people aboard the train. passengers escaped as they could scrambling through the emergency windows on board the train. those on board called the scene simply horrifying. the chairman of the ntsb says determining causie the cause of the accident could be difficult with the age of the 1907 terminal.

>> because of the age of the building there is a possibility of asbestos. there are concerns about that as well. a contractor will be coming in to remove parts of the canopy. that's what the goal of making the area safe for our investigation activities to continue. >> as for the engineer the man at the controls of the train he is thomas gallagher. he was treated and released. he had been on the job for 29 years. 18 of those years as an engineer. those who know him say he loved his work. investigators are going to be relying on his data as well as devices aboard the train to learn the cause of the accident. >> the ntsb will open the events recorder and we will get a sense of what happened from the event recorder. the conductor is also being

cooperative. >> one of the things they are going to be looking at is whether positive train patrols ptc which were not on board the train. they will be mandated to 18. but none of the trains has that device. >> that was 2015 then pushed the date back. now this has happened. >> david lee miller in hoboken this morning. authorities using the horrifying image of flooding social media to piece together the bloody puzzle. they describe the terrifying moment of impact as the bomb exploded. jackie ibanez is here with the team coverage to tell us about the horrific accident. >> plowing through the station trapping dozens of terrified passengers. witnesses describing how the

service still remains suspended in hoboken following that horrific crash almost 24-hours ago. this 1907 arrow train station is now the site of a massive investigation. the questions on the minds of man nae why did this commuter train entering the station not slow down. it entered at a very high rate of speed. the speed limit usually less than 20 miles an hour. this train struck a metal and concrete barrier. the train flew into the air, debris was sent flying every where. a 34-year-old mother identified now was killed by some of the flying debris. she had just dropped her 1-year-old daughter to daycare. andrew cuomo says searching for the cause of this terrible accident is going to take time. >> the injury is about 114.

incredible film to see. the storyline for the film, how the headlines were, it was about the environmental impact of this oil spill. it was a massive thing. 11 people killed on this rig, that's the story that -- peter berg is a jean gus when it comes to directing movies. this particular story about the real life heroes on that rig and told specifically through the eyes of mike williams. mark wahlberg's character in the movie who survived. mike williams actually leaped off of the rig into fiery water to save his own life and essentially to tell the story and get back to his family. the film is intense. they do a really good job in the beginning of building the character. you actually care about these people. the first 30 or 40 minutes is character building when they get to the rig. then the explosion happens and

that's when the intensity occurs. if you look at the behind the scenes footage, peter berg created this scale model of the oil rig and this thing was massive and it created an experience for the audience and the actors as well. when you're watching this movie, you feel like you're actually there because they actually are on a rig and there's fire happening. it is the most insane thing. behind the scenes footage of this movie is just as intense as the actual movie itself. that's the way movies need to be made. they have want to immerse the audience and the characters in the same experience. mark wahlberg, who starred in the film as mike williams, a real life hero, he actually was on fire in some of the scenes that he shot. watch this. >> were you actually on fire? you were wearing a jacket in this fire. talk about shooting that moment. obviously, there's insurance, crazy things like that. how do you get approved to do that? >> pete is like will you do it?

of course. if he says do it, i'm going to do it. one of the more sketchy moments in the movie. you've got protective gel underneath it. they pour whatever fluid. >> my wife would not be happy with me doing that. she was listening to some of the interviews earlier and somebody mentioned i was on fire and she kind of gave me this look. i didn't tell her that. >> she didn't know? >> see the movie. you know what's wonderful about peter berg, the director of the movie. lone survivor that put you in the element. you felt like you were there with marcus la luttrell and his team. they try to give you the experience that these people had. it's the closest we'll get to being there. it's a very well-made film. very intense. i gave it a 4.5 out of 5. 100% worth seeing. >> you can count on it if you say it.
