room. >> for sure. we begin this morning with the race to the white house in brand new polls in that contest. >> pundits claim first debate disaster for trump new numbers show the race is pretty much a dead heat. >> garrett tenney is live with us for all the breaking details. >> there is a little bit of sparkle for hillary clinton. anyway you slice it, this is still an extremely close race. after the first debate in the latest fox news polls, looking at a four-way race hillary clinton jumped 2 points post debate. and now she is leading donald trump by 3 points among likely voters. a few weeks ago, she only led by one point. trump holds steady at 40% and still within the poll's margin of error. still a very close race everall. clinton performs each better though when likely voters were asked who they would choose in a head-to-head matchup between the two candidates. there she leads trump 49 to 45%. last night donald trump was

hurricane matthew also churning up some major waves. the storm still has the potential to hit the united states. our own meteorologist rick rick mouth will have the latest on the storm's track later on this hour. and election officials on high alert. now increasing efforts to block hackers from getting into state election data bases. the department of homeland security revealing that voter registration systems have been target in more than 20 states. much more than previously had been acknowledged. some lawmakers are blaming russia for are the hacks. the federal government has yet to provide solid proof of the allegation. and only person that can keep a president from takeoff, well, a former president. than is president obama looking impatient in the doorway of air force one at jerusalem airport. the president calling for bill clinton to get on board so they could get back to washington. they were both there to speak at a funeral shimon

welcome back. if you can believe it, 38 days now until the election. as we just showed you fox news poll shows hillary now with a 3-point lead over donald trump in a four-way race. >> in the latest head to head hillary clinton has turned a one-point deficit into a 5-point lead. here to break it down what does that mean publish everywhere of real clear politics tom bevan. good morning, tom, i wonder when say this thing fascinating as the real clear politics average of these polls to try to make sense of the data that's streaming in. this fox poll suggests hillary clinton got a modest bump from the first debate. how does that sheikh up your average? >> it definitely moved the needle on our two-way average because, as you just mentioned, she got a more significant bounce in the two-way. it bumped it up to over 3%. in a four-way race it doesn't move it at all. right in line with where some the other apostles. were the four-way average didn't move about 2.9% right

now. so, minimal effect on the two way and no effect on the four-way race. >> let's lock deeper in the independent vote. in a general election, these are the votes that really matter here. trump has always done well with independent voters. you can see 41% to 29%. what impact do you think the debates had on the independent votes? are there still a lot of people waiting to see the future debates? >> yeah. i think that's what this showed. trump's number in the four-way race stayed solid it was 40% two weeks ago and 40% now in the fox poll and he maintained a 12-point lead with independents. it doesn't look like independents moved -- it doesn't look like he necessarily won over any more independence but he didn't necessarily lose ground. i will be interested to see the battleground states because he has been doing very well with independents. made up well with independents in places like ohio, north carolina, nevada, over the last few weeks. so i will be interested to see in those key battleground states whether independents moved at all. >> we also asked in this fox poll what is the biggest

motivation for you voting. 57% fear the other candidate wins. 39% talk about inenthusiasm for the other candidate. wow is right as abby says. usually it's about get your folks to the polls. you want them to be enthusiastic about your own candidacy. instead, this appears to be a race about the other person is a heck of a lot worse than i am. >> it's been that way the whole time, ed, you're right. historic election in the sense that both candidates are so unliked. generate such strong feelings from the other side. we have seen this number repeat itself over and over and over again. and it does. it locks like -- fear factor. in whichever candidate is being talked about and in the news is usually suffering in the polls. certainly donald trump in week with the debate performance and the rest of this week has been in the news quite a bit. i don't think it's helped his case necessarily. >> after this first debate we have seen hillary clinton get a slight bump. you have to look at history to understand what this all means and what the impact really is bigger picture.

you look in 2004, john kerry after the first debate erailsed 7 percentage point deficit. lost the election at the end of the day by 2.46 percentage points. also mitt romney a race of four percentage point deficit losing the election by 3. will percentage points. you see that at the r. at the end of the day. it was a different story. >> part of the reason. it the rest of the story is they both bounced back and had better debates in the second and third debates and so that's where we stand, so, it's hard to say, again, how this is going to work out. i don't think donald trump disqualified himself. he is still in the race and has a chance to make the case. obviously when you are standing in front of 84 million people it's a missed opportunity if you are not able to win people over to your side. it doesn't look like he was able to do that in the future debate.

joins us now. great to see you. what did you learn from this. >> i didn't learn anything because it was all pretty much expected. what you see on facebook and the news with how these black lives matter supporters react. >> so you expected the violence you got. >> completely expected. >> talk to us about that. talk to us about the experience on the ground. how different was the reaction when you were in a white neighborhood and black neighborhood? that was real neighborhood. >> in the white neighborhood i wasn't really expecting that good of a reaction for the people who didn't support black lives matter because nobody really got mad. they said i support all lives matter. i just don't like to support black lives matter. some said don't segregate. don't specifically specify black lives matter. it's all lives. because everybody is affected by everything. it's actually -- when you lock at the facts. it's not really a black problem. >> and not the case in the other neighborhood.

that it will. last night it became a category 5 hurricane it hasn't happened anywhere in the atlantic basin since 2007. a really monster storm. places that you have to watch out for this the next couple of days, jamaica, cuba,and haiti, the storm is going to the west it will make a northward turn later on today and in to tomorrow and all of our model guidance brings this up there somewhere in that area. we will see a lot of the damage across these areas right here. we isn't a say exactly where. what happens after that is very interesting. here is some of the models continue to pull this toward the north and then is where we have a little bit more uncertainty. here is the official cone. and you see probably see it weaken a little bit. a little bit of uncertainty as well. florida you will notice, eastern floor florida could be watching. this some pull this close tort u.s. shores and some off shores as well. five days, this is thursday somewhere across the bahamas, we have a lot of time to talk about, this guys, probably next weekend if we see impacts for the

venal to me. she is obviously not in touch with that huge voting block that she has to motivate. the kids are motivated, but now they have no direction. they don't know where they're going to go, if at all. they can't go for gary johnson who doesn't know the capital of new york state or, you know, who angela merkel is. so what are they going to do? >> a rare policy question, so hillary clinton's whole pitch is i'm the adult in the room. i know what i'm doing. i know the details. so her idea here is that going to community college will close the income gap among americans. we have a high percentage of people going to college than ever before and income gap is spreading. there's no evidence that's true and nobody calls her on it. >> no evidence that what's true going to community college helps succeed in life? >> going to college is the answer to growing income. it's a real problem. she says this is going to solve it, but there's literally no evidence that's true. >> i've been around for a long time. my vibe is if you -- if you're cool, you stay in school.

"new york times" is piling on saying stocks -- stock market would plummet. the man who knows making money on fox business our friend charles payne. charles, you'll notice when you hear the obama people or the hillary people talk about the economy, their sole measure is the stock market. a, is that a meaningful measure of the economy, generally? and, b, is it true with trump's the stock market would collapse? >> if this was 20 years ago, you say it's a better correlation, but apple will sell more phones in china. if apple sells in china go down, apple stock goes down. it's not necessarily a direct correlation that it used to be.

and there are other factors. we were down 53% from october 2007. so it was oversold, he was able to benefit from that. he's been able to benefit from the fact that america's still the greatest economy in the world. there are certain benefits. of course we know there's been low interest rates. so it's certainly not the proxy, and believe me, i remember when the market would hit all-time highs under george bush and democrats come on tv say it was only a reflection of the rich and not real america. >> i thought the most interesting moment in the debate favor in chatter of the venezuelan beauty queen slash getaway driver, this is what trump said about the economy and listen. >> we have the worst revival of an economy since the great depression. and believe me, we're in a bubble right now. and the only thing that looks good is the stock market. but if you raise interest rates even a little bit, that's going to come crashing down. we are in a big, fat, ugly

bubble. >> he's basically saying this is an illusion created by our monetary policy, the federal reserve policy, keeping interest rates low is going to be a disaster. do you think that's true? >> we don't know what's going to happen. i think ultimately it will be disastrous and i think it's led to some real bad things. i think there are other assets that might be more overpriced in the stock market including commercial real estate. i caution viewers not to try to pinpoint markets and figure out if we're in a bubble or not. just on a handful of great stocks. the politicalization of the federal reserve, we know that the federal reserve has loved to take action before an election. and in this particular case we do know that janet yellen probably sings from the same ideological hymn sheet as hillary clinton and barack obama. so, listen, the next president's going to have a situation on their hand where the possibility of a recession has grown, it's grown dramatically this year. you have no business investments and there are millions and millions of americans who simply have been left behind. >> right.
