debate coverage and post debate analysis. you want to stay tuned all day tuesday. >> hopefully c-span gets the phone number right. if you want to comment on that, we'll see you next weekend. take care. well, as a new month begins we are just 38 days away from elected a new president and the stakes continue to get higher as we see fallout over this week's presidential debate with hillary clinton garnering momentum against trump whose campaign is urging him to stay on message. hello. i'm uma mem raju. our new polls are putting clinton ahead. hillary clinton now back on top by five points after trailing before the debate seen by millions. her camp says she's confident.
11:01 am
trump says he's not backing down. we have team fox coverage on both candidates. rich edison is standing by with more on hillary clinton this weekend. we ge begin with peter doocy following donald trump in the swing state of pennsylvania. >> reporter: uma, donald trump last night specific lip name dropped the man he hopes to succeed while he was reminding voters about lingering questions concerning hillary clinton's private e-mail server and also accusations about pay for play during her time at the state department. >> here is the demand i'm making today. to president obama, mr. president, will you pledge not to issue a pardon to hillary clinton and her co-conspirators
11:02 am
for their many crimes against our country and against society itself? >> new fox news poll out yesterday reveals that trul has a big lead with men, 17 points above clinton, but clinton has a commanding lead with female voters. as the republican nominee tries to get more women behind him, he's rolling out a new ad starring his daughter ivanka. >> my father will change outdated labor baughs so they support women and american families. he will provide tax credits for child care, paid maternity leave and paid savings accounts. this will allow women to support their families and further their careers. >> trump was vind kaelted in a way when the debate commission announced that, like he said, there was a problem with his microphone during monday night's debate that made it sound like he was sniffling.
11:03 am
a "new york times" report saying he is considering a new strategy that involves confronting clinton about her husband's infidelities to her face. before that, a rally here at spooky nook sport in mannheim, pennsylvania. it is amish country. we've run into some amish people here from the area, not for the event, they were here participating in some of the activities. they say come november they're all for trump. uma? >> peter, thank you for the update. hillary clinton meanwhile is resting up after spending the week hammering donald trump over his treatment of women. mrs. clinton campaigning be bernie sanders in the hopes of swinging millennial voters who have been wary of the democratic nominee. in a leaked audio message from a democratic fund-raiser in february mrs. clinton admits it's a group that leaves her, quote, be willedered. rich edison joins us with more. >> reporter: good afternoon, uma.
11:04 am
hillary clinton in that leaked audio reported by the washington free beacon said of bernie sanders supporters, the younger ones, they feel like they got their education and their jobs aren't exactly what they envisioned so they don't see much of a future. clinton argues the younger bernie sanders supporters turn to him looking for and his promises of free college tuition and health care. now it's hillary clinton who is turning to bernie sanders to try to convince those voters to come out to the polls to come out and support her on election day. bernie sanders campaigned with her earlier this week at university of new hampshire where she pushed her college tuition plan which involves more taxpayer funding for students who go to state colleges and universities. she's also deploying bernie sanders in iowa. on monday, three different events, the state that when sanders was campaigning during the democratic primaries and caucuses, he has large crowds in iowa for that event. the clinton campaign is also knocking donald trump on a late

night tweet session, and where he continued criticizing the former miss universe, alicia machado. >> his latest twitter meltdown is unhinged, even for him. it proves yet again that he is temperamentally unfit to be president and commander-in-ch f commander-in-chief. >> reporter: clinton brought up and used machado during monday it in's debate. she was miss universe in the 1990s. donald trump criticized her then for gaining too much weight as miss universe. the criticism has now continued. uma, back to you. >> rich, thank you very much. some republicans have been coming out urging donald trump not to bring up bill clinton's past infidelities, this as mr. trump continues to keep the controversy going with former miss universe alicia machado in the headlines. what should trump's strategy be moving forward? joining us now, dr. ben carson,
11:06 am
the former presidential candidate who also supports donald trump. welcome. great to have you on board. >> thank you. always good to be with you. >> kind of a rough week for donald trump as he continues to strike back against mrs. clinton for bringing up the controversy over miss universe. it's been six days since that debate. fireworks over these remarks continue to make news and with trump refusing to move on to other issues, does it bother you mr. trump is doubling down with this, continuing on his tweets and breaking away from the script, staying off the issues? >> i do understand it. there was a time in my life when i used to be the same way. i couldn't let anything go by. i had to get revenge. it dawned on me after awhile, particularly after some prayerful consideration, that that was not a sign of strength. it actually meant that other people could use you, could manipulate you. what he's going to need to concentrate on are the issues. there is no way in the world that hillary can compete with
11:07 am
him on the issues, on our economy, on jobs, on prison reform, on schools and school choice. there's no way she can compete. therefore, she doesn't want to talk about those things, and she's got a whole list of other things besides this machado woman, believe me, that will lead you down the rat hole if you will take the bait. >> he has lost some ground from the debate. the issue of temperament comes up as a reason. in today's "new york times," for example, he says he's planning to put bill and hillary clinton's relationship along with bill's infidelities against her. he's quoted in tart curveball by saying she's nasty, but i can be nastier than she can ever be. do you support this strategy? it doesn't sound like he's listening to his at vicars who are telling him to get off these
11:08 am
incidents. >> there's no question -- i'm not sure that he's the one who needs to spend precious time during the debates, however, talking about it. it definitely should be talked about when he's out there. a lot of the young people, millennials don't know about all this stuff. >> that's true. they don't anything about bill clinton's infidelities and monica lewinsky. that's in the history books. >> it is. there's a lot of other stuff in the history books, too. those need to be brought up, but they should not be the central focus. the reasons that two to one the american people think we're on the wrong track is because of our economy, immigration, terrorism, education. it's all of these things. >> i can hear the frustration in your voice. i want to play remarks from a big-time trump supporter like yourself, newt gingrich on
11:09 am
"hanni "hannity" last night. take a listen. >> trump has to either sing i've got to be me or he's got to do a new song, i've got to be president. they're not the same song. he's got to become much more disciplined. >> you have newt gingrich saying he's got to be more disciplined, much like what you're talking about. what's your reaction that given the fact prior to this dust-up over miss universe, he was earning support by sticking with key issues, policy issues to the e-mail scandal. there are a number of issues where he can paint a stark contrast as a change agent. why not stick to this since we know many voters are hungering for change. >> of course that's the logical and reasonable thing to do. like i said, i know where he's coming from because i used to be there. when you're in that place logic doesn't necessarily always inform everything that you do.
11:10 am
you do more -- you base what you say more on your feelings. but i think this is something that is going to change. i see it has already changed substantially. people are criticizing him severely for the debate performance. the fact of the matter is considering how much improvement you've seen in his temperament, i think people should be encouraged. i think you'll see even more improvement over the next two debates. remember, if he talked about everything in the first debate, he wouldn't have anything to talk about in the second and the third debate. >> you say you see a change in his tempt personality. when he talks in the "new york times" saying he's going to double down on the clinton relationship and bill clinton's past infidelities, is that a movement going forward? is he listening to you and the other folks on his team about staying on course. have you talked to him about this? >> there's a difference between talking about it outside the debate and letting it be the focus of what you talk about in the debate. i think that's where you're going to see the difference.
11:11 am
no, he's not going to back away from attacking her when he's on the stump, and i'm not sure that he should. >> i'm not talking about backing away on issues that are policy-related. should he back away from some of the more personal insults that go back and forth between them? >> insults, yes. facts, no. he should not back away from talking about the lives that were lost in benghazi. he should not taback away from talking about her e. mail server and acid washing it. he needs to make the american people understand, if we're willing to accept that level of dishonesty in our leaders, we're doomed. >> that's the kind of message you and his supporters are asking him to talk more about rather than issues about miss universe. do you see him walking away from that? >> i am certainly hoping and praying he will walk away from the miss universe rat hole
11:12 am
stuff. that is nothing but distraction, pure distraction. you don't need to deal with that at all. >> dr. ben carson, always good to see you. thank you very much for joining us. >> thank you. before hillary clinton and donald trump square off once again, their running mates will be facing off in their only vice presidential debate this tuesday live from longwood university in farmville, virginia. fox news will have live complete coverage of that debate all day. we want to hear from you now as for this coming debate. will you be watching and do you believe that hearing from the veep candidates will impact whether or not you will vote for mr. trump or miss clinton. tweet me and we'll try to get to some of your answers a bit later in the show. the dangerous precedent, and it's an example of why sometimes you have to do what's hard. and frankly, i wish congress here had done what's hard.
11:13 am
>> that's president obama, chiding congress for overriding his veto on a bill that gives victims' families the right to sue saudi arabia over any role it may have played in the 9/11 attacks, calling it, quote, a mistake. joining president obama in his criticism of the bill, many republicans who say it sets a dangerous precedent which will destabilize america's relationship with its allies. many in congress are evenings pressing buyers' remorse realizing they may have opened a man dora's box. judge michael my case si is the former attorney general under george w. bush and out spoken critic of this legislation. great to have you in the studio. >> great to be with you. >> i know you're very concerned about the precedence this sets. you were concerned that sovereign immunity with the u.s. is now challenged, not only with saudi arabia but other issues as well. >> this is going to hurt us a lot more than it helps any of
11:14 am
the families. we all feel not only sympathy, baugh desire to help the families. this isn't going to do it. a couple days ago there was a drone strike in afghanistan. according to the afghans killed civilians and the united states we'll look into it. the afghans said if you kill our civilians, that's an act of terrorism. you want you to show us what intelligence you have, we want to talk to whoever was targeting that drone, whoever was working at the air base in the midwest. we want to name that information and find out what information they had. they want to go through our intelligence files and communications. there's no way we would stand for that, and it would hurt us tremendously. we have the most to lose from this. we have the most military people, the most intelligence people, the most diplomats in the most countries all over the world. and there have been people trying for years to get at those folks in places as diverse at belgium, italy, afghanistan. and if we do something like
11:15 am
this, it gives a perfect wedge, an excuse to do that. >> i know -- we mentioned a moment ago some in congress are having some buyers' remorse, so to speak, over the passage of this bill, the fact it's been overridden -- the veto has been overridden, specifically over some of the things you're talking about and also about the fact that our service members might potentially come under harm's way. >> right n the way i justted. there's also, i should add, no evidence, and we had investigations by our intelligence agencies, by congress and by the 9/11 commission. they found no evidence of saudi government involvement or the involvement of any senior saudi officials. so this is really -- there's no reason for that. >> some in congress are saying when the recess ends, they're going to go back and try to adjust this bill. this criticism you talk about, focusing about the 9/11 families
11:16 am
and supporters. you say there's no indication there's any tie to saudi arabia. there's concern about this secret relationship between the united states and saudi arabia over national security issues and the fact that the release of this classified document, 28 payments that were released, that some people believe it's designed to protect saudi arabia. some of that information was held back. 9/11 families say this was an indicator that saudi arabia may have had a connection, there's a lot of assumptions involved in this. >> if there's a person there or some individual who funded something, then they can sue them, and they have sued a couple of people in saudi arabia who they claim were involved. those 28 pages don't support any claim that the saudi government was involved and the notion that somehow we withheld that. we require you to believe that two presidents, the whole intelligence apparatus of the united states was involved in a massive coverup conspiracy. yes, we have a relationship with
11:17 am
the saudis in intelligence gathering. it is secret for good reason. it's intelligence gathering and is secret. it helps us. they have helped us with enormous numbers of terrorism cases. >> what do you say to the families who see this as a victory for justice going forward in terms of a very traumatic, difficult process, trying to seek some kind of justice in a very sad chapter in our history? >> they deserve not only sympathy but support, and obviously compensation for losses that cannot be compensated. this bill is the wrong way to do it. i'm sure that none of them would want to hurt the united states in aid of a project that can really benefit principally trial lawyers. >> do you expect congress to amend this bill once they come back? >> i'm hoping they will. i hope they'll get the president back in charge of our foreign relations. uma, there's a bill on the books already that permits people to sue any foreign government na is
11:18 am
found to be a state sponsor of terrorism. people have sued iran in that way. there's been no such finding as to saudi arabia, nor could there be. let the president determine whether there is any basis for this. >> you think this is all about politics in an election year? >> i think a lot of it is about politics and a lot about campaign contributions. >> thank you very much for joining us. we'll speak to a woman whose husband died in the world trade center and serves as the national chairperson of the 9/11 association for justice -- hurricane matthew set to make landfall as a powerful category four storm with haiti and jamaica preparing. could it 56 next the u.s. next week? janice dean will have more on that. we have new fox news polls

clinton. they don't trust her. they look at her and, yes, they say donald trump has made some mistakes. hillary clinton has made mistakes as well. but the big difference is hillary clinton has cost people their lives when it comes to benghazi, libya, sovereignty. particularly with national security and the servers, donald trumpa has made mistakes by doing and saying potentially unfocused, falling for the traps. i'll take that any time over hillary clinton. >> but you know, as you point out, we're still weeks away from the election, of course. the fact is there's still a divide with donald trump and women. he still has to close that gap, given what's happened this week, for example, a number of women out there who are not happy with his remarks about miss universe and other attacks against mrs. clinton. i know this is an issue he thinks is important to stick with. at the same time he doesn't have a lot of time to make up for lost time, as some say has happened, of course, with this whole week being caught up with

this issue. >> listen, to be sidetracked, he fell for the bait. hillary clinton primed it and the democrats and her surrogates, mainstream media have been harping on this and harping on this. yeah, he should have said, listen, incensensitivinsensitiv ago, i don't feel that way now, can we talk about national security? that's the big difference between being a seasoned politician, an insider. hillary clinton, uma, has a very real problem with men as well. so not as grave as trump has with women, but there's an opportunity for trump to pick up those reagan democrats, those people that have checked out of the electoral process. a lot of those bernie sanders millennials who basically think bernie sanders and elizabeth warren left them by endorsing the so-called queen of wall street and hillary clinton. they'll either go to the third party candidates, stay home or they'll -- i think a portion will go to hillary and a pretty good portion goes to trump.

>> going forward, as you prepare to look ahead to the next debate, i'm going to ask you the same question i asked dr. carson. are you talking to him? are you telling him, this is what needs to happen, stay focused on message, you want if momentum going on your side and to say we'd like to see you more disciplined. >> i and others have offered our suggestions. whether they're needed or not, i've always had the ability to reach out directly not only to the kids or his senior staff or mr. trump directly and i offered my analysis prior to the debate and after the debate. if he wants somebody who is going to tell him how wonderful he is, he's got plenty of those people, but if he wants someone like me who has run 21 races and i've had big debates and understand the insiders in washington, then i'm going to continue to offer those suggestions. >> scott brown, thank you for joining us today. >> thank you.
