10:11 am
it will get worse in my own view. you got two people with huge negative ratings and at this stage of the game, i don't think they will heal very much the concerns people have about them. it is much more likely that the campaign seizes on misstep like the new report and to keep forcing the other one off of its footing and trump seems to fall into that. part of the problem is they will throw the debate. and you can see the polls in colorado and other places it is starting to widen. a lot of it is why karl said. she pushed out on the miss universe claim and he takes the bait, that's what the trump campaign has to guard against. >> we'll see what happens in the debate in virginia, joe.

and more information from the new york's office. they are putting the cease and desist order are in effect because the foundation failed to register with the charity report and annual audited statements. that's why they can't raise money in new york. i will find out more information. karl, no one is talking about in relation to politics. i can't think about what is happening, think of sandy and there is one path that puts hurricane matthew on the east coast in the battleground states as well. again, we don't know what is going to happen. and because of what we saw of sandy, and the impact of the white house between barak obama and mitt romney.
10:13 am
how can an outside event hit. >> if there is a big storm hitting the east coast. it will divert coverage from the campaign to the storm. it mattered in 2012 because it gave president obama to look presidential and to be seen in the midst of the controversy and in the midst of the recovery efforts. but the biggest affect this year, it will freeze the race. we'll be spending more time on hurricane sandy, or hurricane matthew and less time on the campaign. there is simply a limited amount of time to cover everything. and you have something that is fast- moving and breaking and lots of visual and it tends to dry up coverage. >> i am curious your thoughts. taking a step back and of the political story, what impact could a hurricane have?
10:14 am
>> it can impact huge. >> look at florida, north carolina, and virginia even, they are states that are key to both campaigns not being able to go there and forget the political consequences of hurricane response that will matter. but the campaigns themselves. they can't go rowing in to the states and there is, emergency services that need to happen. and they will take resources away and distract and the new's coverage will be about p the hurricane, not about either of them. >> and the hurricane protection offy americans is important. and i think about p it considering the past and the news of the week. karl and joe, thank you. we look forward to talking to you. >> this is evidence you have turned in to a political junkie. >> all right. i don't know about that. >> hurricane matthew barrels to

those at the top would be controversial. and yet this is one of the defining debates, not just of this election but of our time. now, i will say most american companies, are run by honorable patriotic people who care about the employee and communities. but there are still too many powerful interest fighting to protect their own profits and privileges at the expense of everyone else. [applause] and they are aided and abeted by the rule and incentives in our economy that encourage people at the top to take advantage of consumers and worker are and small businesses and taxpayers. that makes it tougher for the well meaning ceos to take the high road and even harder when
10:40 am
we don't aggressively enforce the rule and we don't enforce trade rules that allow other countries with lower wage and standards to get an unfair leg up. and we don't enforce rules on wall street that exert enormous pressure and companies boosting share prices in the short term over building real value and invest nothing workers and plants and equipment over the longer term. and let's be honest. the tax code rewards corporations for outsourcing job and profits overseas instead of investing here in the united states. against the small businesses that can't afford lawyering and lobbyist. and so with all of these pressures pushing in the wrong direction, it is important that we have an election about the very issues. because what i know will happen if we have an election where we have an agenda that would begin to it level that playing field, we will rebuild the middle-class and we will make work pay and create opportunities for a great percentage of americans. and i am going to use the white house in every tool at my disposal as your president to make the case that patriotism is profitable. and standing up for america is investing in america will pay off. now, we have always had innovator and entrepreneurs who build great company and create real value. and we should not and we will not respect those who get rich by cheating every body else. so today, i want to clear a message to the boardroom and executive suite in america f. you scam your are customer and exploit your employee and pollute our environment and rip

[crowd noise]
10:52 am
then you know in the debate, he said it was smart to avoid paying taxes. taxes. yesterday his campaign was bragging that it makes him a genius. here is my question, what kind of a genius loses a billion dollars in a single year? this is trump to a t. he has made a business model out of it. he abuses the power, gains the system, and puts himself ahead of the countries. it's trump first and everyone else last. and there are lots of principaled law awiding business le -- abiding business leaders out there who are horrified by this.
10:53 am
not a single ceo of a fortune 100 company supports trump's campaign. think about it i have been endorsed by very successful people. warren buffett, mike bloomberg, mark cuban. he says i have been successful. he is an actual real billionaire. and you know what? he used profit sharing to help his employees. not bankruptcy. to fire people, and when he sold his first company, he shared the profits with his employees. and 300 of them became millionaires. that is the kind of business practices i want to see more of in our country.
10:54 am
here is what we have to do, even if trump is like one of a kind, let's reverse it. today i want to briefly share with you for protecting action is payers, consumers, and small workers. willing to take the high road and invest in higher rowages. first let's protect taxpayers. it is wrong that corporations and the super wealthy play by a different set of rules. a wall street moneyman should not be able to pay a lower tax rate than a teacher or a nurse.
10:55 am
and our big companies should not be able to get away with paying anything at all. it is insulting. on paper, not in reality, just to take advantage of lower tax rates. it's infuriating when they take tax breaks with one hand and give out pink slips with the other hand. we're going to close those loopholes. i have a list of them. we're going to make wall street corporations and the super rich start paying their fair share of taxes. we're going to pass the buffett rule that means that ceo's cannot pay a lower tax rate their their secretary and others working for them.

we're going to put in place a new exit tax. if countries try to leave our country, or outsource jobs, they have to give back every tax break they ever received in our country. and then we're going to put that money to work creating opportunities here in america. we're going to protect consumers. no american should ever be taken advantage of like thousands were by wells fargo. as a senator i warned about sub prime mortgages. i worked to protect our personal data. i will make consumer protection a type priority across the

for-profit colleges that are scamming students. i don't read that fine print. you get defrauded or mistreated and they say you can't sue us. we also see a problem in international trade agreements like the transpacific partnership. it sets up a dispute resolution system. i warned about this for years, i have written about it, and i oppose tpp now. i will oppose it after the election, i will oppose it as president. it is one sided and unfair to american workers. and what about all of those pharmaceutical companies that jack up prices for no reason? we're going to have to protect
