big debate. you may have heard chris wallace is no der rating. is he on the corner of the screen somewhere. we start at 6:15 for special coverage megyn kelly and can you believe it? >> we're here. finally almost. >> you're watching an early edition of "fox and friends." >> thank you for starting your wednesday with us. and this is, of course, where we begin tonight. debate at the university of nevada hosted by our very own chris wallace coming as brand new fox polls show donald trump trailing hillary clinton by six

points just three weeks before voters head to the polls. >> and we have fox team coverage for you this morning. live from vegas, fox news senior political correspondents following hillary clinton's debut after days of hiding. >> we begin with senior national correspondent john roberts and what to expect from donald trump. john, we're here, the final debate. >> reporter: good morning. polls trailing by six nationally. trailing hillary clinton by seven here in the state of nevada. we talk about this is the most important moment in donald trump's political campaign. tonight we can say it really is. this is his last chance to make a good impression on a national level. and what he needs to do is he needs to get past the scandals that have dogged this campaign for almost the last two weeks and get back on policy. make it a choice between hillary clinton and donald trump who represents real change. and though he trails in almost all of the polls in the battle ground states with the exception
1:02 am
of ohio, donald trump is predicting that on e lix night there will be a brexit like befieb defiance of the polls. listen to what he said yesterday in colorado springs. >> this is an election about truth. some people can't handle the truth. no matter what, the one thing they know is we're going to tell the american people where we stand, where we are. we're going to tell them the truth. believe me, folks. we're doing great. if we keep our spirit and if we go out and win, this is another brexit. >> reporter: donald trump is using the situation of the past couple of days as an example of the difference between himself and hillary clinton. hillary clinton has been preparing for the debate. donald trump has been on the campaign trail in wisconsin and two big rallies in colorado. listen to what he said in colorado junction on that topic. >> she's home sleeping and i'm working. so that's the way it's going to be in the white house too.
1:03 am
she'd be sleeping, i'd be working. >> reporter: donald trump has got a couple of special guests who are going to be with him tonight at the debate. first of all, pat smith who is the mother of a ben gau zi victim, and the half brother of president obama will be there. he says he's going to vote for donald trump this year. fox news anchor chris wallace will be moderating. the first time an anchor from fox news has been asked to moderate a presidential debate. some of the topics, debt and entitlements, the economy, supreme court and fitness. >> taking a run maybe this morning. >> it's going to be a good one. >> i went to the fitness center yesterday. >> good for you. is that before or after the casino? just kidding. >> that was before. >> thank you. >> well, of course the stakes have never been higher for clinton clinton. arriving in sin city on the

heels of another crippling e-mail leek. let's go to mike. with these thousands of wikileaks e-mails coppiming out clinton will have to fight hard to regain america's trust. >> reporter: that will be an area where she's playing on defense. hillary clinton, her aids say, is ready for tonight's debate and is looking forward to the show down and they say she'll be ready for whatever strategy trump uses. clinton arrived her yesterday and did debate prep last night. they said it's gotten a little bit more easy after doing this now several times. their hope is folks will appreciate how hillary clinton stands up to donald trump and she doesn't care what kind of attacks he launches at her. as for hot topics like the wikileaks constant drip of campaign e-mails, the director said she will be ready. >> wikileaks will come up, but we think an important context
1:05 am
for that at the debate should focus on the extraordinary and unprecedented and disturbing russia is playing in influencing the election. the other thing we would expect as being in the news that would come up, there were allegations against donald trump by women and that's something she'd like an opportunity. >> reporter: the latest fox news poll talked about the broader issue of clinton's private e-mail and whether she was lying about how her e-mails were handled. two-thirds of voters said likely yesterday. 23% said no. look for wikileaks to be an issue tonight. they'll turn it to try to say blame the russians for hacking. she'll seek to go on offense on the allegations against donald trump by those women. >> and some debate as to whether or not bill clinton will come out and shake hands at the beginning. thank you. we'll check back with you. 20 days out until the election.
1:06 am
hours away until the final faceoff between donald trump and hillary clinton. brand new fox polls released overnight showing hillary clinton in the lead by seven points. what does donald trump need to do to turn it around, and what is at stake for both the candidates. here to help us map it out is the president of rasmussen media group. the final debate is here. we need to take a look at what's going on what donald trump can do to change things. >> we've been talking about the battle ground states. one of the things we haven't talked about too much is the way the battle ground states move with the national popular vote. it's the national vote that matters. >> the popular versus the electoral college. >> that's right. this is the way things looked in 2012. romney lost. in the popular vote he lost by four points.
1:07 am
now today you mentioned it the fox poll shows that donald trump is trailing by seven points. a bigger margin. if that were to happen on election day, what we'd likely see is the map would change. clinton would then w. . the three point advantage is spread across the country. >> right now although by just 1%, the latest poll shows that actually hillary clinton is up. >> up, right, and that's exactly what you'd expect to see. it was very close in the last couple of elections. if the democrats win my more than barack obama won four years ago, they'll do better in the electoral college. what happens if donald trump only loses by two? well, that gets him pretty close. he would probably win florida and north carolina. it gets him to a place where he's getting very close in the e
1:08 am
electoral college but not quite there. what if it's a tie in the popular vote? >> what if that happens? i mean, it is possible. >> it is possible. and then we see a tie in the electoral college. in this case the numbers are showing 253 for trump, and 42 tossups. >> these three states? >> right. pennsylvania, virginia, and colorado the decisive states. there's some flexibility in this. there are minor differences. but the point is if the popular vote goes in one direction, the electoral college will follow, and will will be a huge comeback. the man is down by seven points right now. if he picks up nine points and wins the popular vote by two, he would win 295 to 217. states like pennsylvania, virginia, and colorado would move in his column. >>.
1:09 am
>> we talked about virginia being a key state. >> and what we've also talked about in several of the states is he needs to do well nationally or it won't make any difference. >> what does he need to do tonight in order to make it happen? >> he needs to recognize it's not about an individual state. he needs to turn the race around to make sure he does a better job in the popular vote. he'll need to do that by raising his issues and raising questions about hillary clinton. but he's also got to recognize, he has a lot of ground to make up. the thing that people should be looking for, anybody watching this election closely is the popular vote will move the battle ground states. and that's what you want to see. if donald trump is still trailing by seven points, there is no magical formula that's going to win him the electoral college. >> but this election is like none other. anything could happen. >> anything could happen. tonight is the key moment. >> it has happened before, although just slightly where there was a difference between the popular vote and electoral vote.
1:10 am
>> al gore in 2000 won the popular vote by less than half a percentage point. it was effectively a tie, and he barely lost the electoral college. if we're very close, that could happen. >> we'll see what happens. we'll have you back to talk about it? >> look forward to it. ten minutes after the hour. the state department denying allegations of quid pro quo. >> we looked into this. the fbi looked into this, and it's not true. >> is hillary going to be put in the hot seat tonight? stick around. pete is going to weigh in on that. and our own chris wallace bringing decades of experience to the table tonight. >> there's a lot of pressure and stress. we've seen the previous moderators get criticized, and at certain points i've had to remind myself, this may be a once in a life opportunity. >> so will this be the only fair and balanced debate? our political panel live from las vegas. they are on deck, next. there's a lot of stress. we've seen the previous moderators get criticized and at certain points i've had to remind myself, this may be a once in a life opportunity, so to the degree you can stop biting your nails, have fun with it. >> for the first time ever a fox news anchor is moderating a presidential debate. is this going to be the first and only fair and balanced debate? here to weigh in gop strategists. good morning. it's extra early where you are in vegas. >> good morning. >> this is a city that never sleeps. >> that's true. >> adam, chris wallace moderating the last debate. decades of experience. some say he asks the best
1:14 am
questions in the business. will this be the most balanced debate? >> it's going to be the difference between a lincoln douglas debate and jerry springer. he goes back to 1964 when he shared the debate duties with walter cronkite in california. it's interesting the parallels between '64 and today. that was the gold water versus nelson rock afeller primary. the insurgent versus the system. in a lot of ways, we'll see it tonight. >> we've seen how important a moderator is. they pick the questions and control the flow. >> anything can happen. people are looking forward to trump, hillary, the debacle in the desert. nobody knows what can happen. there are so many things from e-mails to tapes, and it's going
1:15 am
to be more on chris than any moderator we've seen to keep things on track. i think lots of things can derail it. tonight is pivotable. it's the last chance we get to see these two in their full valor trying to make their case. >> he needs to have fun tonight. the question is is he going to wear a cowboy hat like you, chuck. let's pull up the topics chris wallace chose. i think that will set the tone as people are watching. one of them is fitness. another one is world affairs. the economy, of course. how important are these topics going to be as voters, some of them still haven't made up their mind. >> well, obviously secretary clinton wants this to be on topic six, which is fitness of the president. donald trump wants to focus on jobs, the economy, immigration and foreign policy. look at this as the metaphor here would be a football
1:16 am
metaphor. it's like a one side donald trump has to win a two minute offense and they have to score, and hillary clinton is trying not to lose. in politics i find it more comfortable to be on offense. i think tonight should be a hell of a show. >> it seems like either side you want to be on offense in a debate. chuck, this comes timing wise as thousands of the e-mails have been leaked out from wikileaks. if you're hillary clinton, there's a lot of material can use on her. i have no doubt he's going to. how does she handle that? >> well, first, i've done a lot of debate prep and run presidential races. the first thing you do is acknowledge it and pivot to a strong point. what you've seen in the first two debates is a lot of talk about e-mails and tapes and perspective. they really need to get back to the issue. the first two debates haven't been a deep dive on policy and a little bit of undecided voter want to hear specifics on issues that pertain to them. >> and adam, donald trump didn't
1:17 am
just need to win the debate. he needs to convince voters supporting hillary to go to his side. what does he need to do? >> i think he has to show he has depth, clarity, and focusght. and brings a message which is a message about how the system is broken as he would say, rigged, where the powerful time to try m of over the powerless. if he can drive that message home tonight and do it with flair, and donald trump has a lot of flair, you're in for a show. >> thank you for being here so early this morning. good to see you both. love it. as always, we just heard what adam and chuck want trump and clinton to say, but what do you want to hear? send us your comments and facebook, twitter, or instagram. we will get them on the show for you. and the time now is about 17 minutes after the top of the hour. switching sides, a democrat now voting republican because she's

donald trump expected to hit hillary clinton hard in the last presidential debate. some brand new fox news polls released overnight show he's trailing her by six points. what does he need to do tonight to turn the tide of support? we have a lifelong democrat now supporting trump is the vice chair of the national diversity coalition for trump. >> god bless you and god bless america. thank you for having me. >> as a democrat supporting trump, as i said earlier, donald trump needs to win over his support and also win over democrat from hillary clinton. what does he need to do and say? >> you know what? he's got to stick to the issue. he's got to stay with the jobs for the inner cities and for
1:22 am
whites and hispanics and arabs and the tougher immigration. it's important to everyone. clinton clintwants to open bord. most americans want tougher immigration. he also needs to stick with just making sure that we got school choice. the national debt, how he's going to tackle the national debt. nafta deals. all of that is to important. it doesn't matter if you're a democrat or republican, woman, man. everybody just wants to know they're going to be safe in the country, that he can handle the job. if he sticks to the issues, donald trump, as i always say, is a political rock star. when he's on message, he's untouchable. >> not only do people want to know they're safe. they want to know they have enough money and they can support their families. take a look at this poll. speaking of safety, who do you trust to do a better job on nukes, specifically, clinton, 57%. trump 32%. foreign policy, clinton 55%.
1:23 am
immigration, clinton, once again with 50%. terrorism, economy, you know, with the economy, though, that is where we have donald trump leading 50% to 44%. >> very strong, and that's important. there are so many americans out of work. there are so many americans hopeless. they don't know whether they're going to pay for gas or pay for rent. i think he definitely has to qualm the fears of those, like i said, i doesn't matter what party you belong to. people are afraid. they just want to know that you can be the commander in chief, and like i said, if he sticks to the issues, continues to just let the american public know that he is the man for the job, i believe that he will be the next president by a landslide. no one wants to be out of work for the next four to eight years. >> yeah. it's interesting. this election cycle you look at the unfavorability numbers, maybe the highest. you look at hillary clinton who is up in the polls, but why is
1:24 am
it that folks like you and other democrats aren't running to the polls wanting to support her yet in. >> you have to remember that the voting for democrat for me was -- it's a generational thing. and so what i was doing was voting emotionally. but now that i'm mature, i am voting based on the issues. i'm voting for my fellow americans and looking in the inner cities when i drive through. the poverty and the hopeless -- i'm beginning to mature in my walk, and i understand that i have to feel for my fellow americans. and i think we all have to. our nation needs to heal, and i don't believe that hillary clinton can bring the healing our nation needs. our nation is more divided than ever. well, in the last eight years. we need cohesion. we need healing, and i don't believe we can do that under hillary clinton. i believe that donald trump is the man to do it. >> interesting to stress you're voting on the issues. is there anything at all that hillary clinton could do that would sway your vote this
1:25 am
evening and change it to vote for her? >> well, they could stop taking money from countries that behead women and disrespect women into her campaign. she can stop selling our country over for isis funding them. she could stop sitting on their boards. she could just all the corruption that we're reading in this wikileaks, that sealed the fate for me. she cannot be trusted. she is corrupt, and when the head is corrupt, the whole body has to fall, because she is corrupt, that whole campaign has to tumble. i am waiting for our senators and representatives to ask her to step down. she's unfit. >> tonight it's going to be interesting. thank you for waking up so early. >> thank you for having me. >> you are awesome. i think you're coming back. >> i look forward to it. god bless you. >> you too. >> the time is about 25 minute after the hour. donald trump hitting the state department over quid pro quo allegations. >> this is felony corruption by

there it is. the debate stage in las vegas. and today is the day. it is wednesday, october 19th, and showdown in sin city. the count down is on for the third and financial presidential debate. >> good morning. you are watching "fox and friends." thank you for joining us just a little bit earlier today. i'm heather. >> i'm abbie.
1:29 am
thank you for starting your day with us. >> donald trump and hillary clinton are set to face off at the university of nevada. chris wallace moderating. brand new fox polls show donald trump trailing hillary clinton by six points just three weeks before election day. >> we have fox news team coverage for you live from las vegas. fox news senior political correspondent with the campaign. >> but we begin with john roberts and donald trump who has a little bit to make up tonight. can he do it. >> good morning. >> reporter: that remains to be seen. he's trailing in the overall numbers but leading them on independents. there's still bright spots for donald trump, but the polls have been going the wrong way for the last couple of weeks since the news broke about the hot mike i said deincident and the women coming forward claiming he touched them inappropriately.
1:30 am
he needs to get onto policy. effective in going after hillary clinton on policy. at the same time, the spite the fact that president obama told him yesterday to stop whining about it, donald trump continues to push that the election process is rigged. listen to what he said last night in colorado. >> they even want to try to rig the election where so many cities are corrupt and voter fraud is common and they say there's no voter fraud. if nothing else, people are going to be watching on november 8th. watch philadelphia. watch st. louis. watch chicago. >> donald trump also needs to draw comparisons between himself and hillary clinton as change versus the status quo. and he used the situation on the campaign trail in the last couple of days to illustrate that yesterday saying he's been out there working. he's been in wisconsin, two big
1:31 am
events in colorado, and she's been at home. listen to what he said about that. >> she's home sleeping and i'm working. that's the way it's going to be in the white house too. she'd be sleeping. i'd be working. >> reporter: you'll remember in st. louis he had controversial guests on his list during the debate. he has a couple more interesting guests lined up for tonight. pat smith, the shower of one of the victims of benghazi at the debate. a guest of donald trump. she spoke at the republican con veng vengs j and he invited the president's half brother. he says he's voting for donald trump in 2016. chris wallace will be moderating the debate. he's a point of pride for us. it's the first time a fox anchor has been asked to moderate. debt and entitlements, the economy, supreme court, foreign hot spots, and fitness or the

president topics for tonight. >> it'll be interesting. >> thank you so much. >> thank you, john. >> hillary clinton preparing for anything and everything that donald trump might throw at her. >> and he certainly has a treasure-trove of material. tonight's debate coming on the heals of another crippling e-mail leak. >> mike is live for us in las vegas. and, mike, this is one of clinton's final chances to convince americans that she can. wi be trusted. >> reporter: no question, and hillary clinton's senior advisors told us she is looking forward to the opportunity tonight on that debate stage to connect with potential voters including some of those who may be uncomfortable supporting donald trump. clinton arrived in las vegas late afternoon pacific time. she's done a lot of debate prep. her campaign seems confident after polls show her leading trump in almost every location
1:33 am
in terms of the battle grounds except for perhaps ohio. clinton's team expects hot topics like the wikileaks dump of private e-mails to come up and the allegations made against trump. the campaign communications director said clinton will be ready for whatever approach trump takes tonight. >> if he chooses to continue to embrace his strategy of scorched earth campaign and bringing it to the debate stage, she'll be prepared to handle it as she has, and what we've seen is when he does that, what's the character of hillary clinton that's revealed to voters is someone that is quite capable of standing up to him and defending american values. >> reporter: clinton took a lot of time off the campaign trail in recent days for more preparation heading into the final showdown. she has the luxury of vip
1:34 am
democrats campaigning on her behalf. her husband made an interesting reference in pennsylvania. >> there's been quite enough acid thrown down the throat of the american people in the last 15 months to last us the next 15 years. we need to think about what we're going to do. >> reporter: with less than three weeks left, this is likely the last critical test on the road to the road of the white house. a great opportunity to connect with voters in the final days of the presidential campaign. >> those unfavorable ratings and the rust issue big -- trust issue big with beth of these candidates. >> reporter: donald trump demanding under secretary for management resign after newly released records show he offered a quid pro quo. >> the state department denying
1:35 am
the allegations. >> we looked into it and the fbi. it's not true. there was no quid pro quo suggested. what did happen, pat kennedy did talk to the fbi as he did on other e-mail traffic to discuss and try to better understand why they wanted something classified. >> despite the denial, could the scandal put hillary in the hot spot the debate. here to weigh in on that, pete. thank you for joining us from las vegas. hope you're doing good out there. >> it's early for you. >> it is. >> pete, let's talk about, first what donald trump had to say about this. i think we have some sound from him. listen to what donald trump had to say. >> the fbi documents show under secretary of state, patrick kennedy made the request for altering classification as part of a quid pro quo. in other words, a deal.
1:36 am
this is felony corruption by any standard. under secretary kennedy needs to resign. >> quid pro quo. that's why i brought that sound bite up for you, and, pete, you say that's just dumb to use that phrase. >> well, to blatantly say it. quid pro quos happen, but to write it in an e-mail and say i'm going to do this so you can give me this. this reinforces the rigged system narrative. he also used the phrase drain the swamp last night. this is a system built to enable certain people but crush others in the same circumstance. it's important to point out that patrick kennedy is close to hillary clinton, involved in the benghazi stuff. was only working on declassification of her e-mail. this is someone close to her trying to protect her and trying to give away slots and positions in a quid pro quo so she would look not as bad. it doesn't have to do with classification but protecting
1:37 am
hillary clinton. >> to your point, this has been donald trump's message from the beginning. this is part of why he won the primary, speaking about the rigged system and he's an outsider and they're in it for themselves. donald trump is down in the polls going into tonight's debate. what does he need to do, especially using some of the wikileaks, and this one specifically? how does he use that to his advantage? >> pwhat a great pivot point. the reality that it's happening is unfortunate, but he should run with it as he has on the trail. i love the phrase drain the swamp. there's a sense that d.c. is a swamp for these types of deals and he's going to go in and say i'm going to clean house. the american people want a cleaning of the house, they just don't know if they can trust donald trump. if he can reinforce that he's the change agent they want, he as a massive opportunity. >> we also have seen the videos
1:38 am
released by another organization investigating the democratic voters. there's one individual who has quit, another individual who has resigned. should kennedy? >> he should, of course. and i think he'll probably be the casualty of this, because the clintons will, of course, throw anyone under the bus. i wouldn't be surprised if they try to sequel it by being able to say he's not doing what he was doing anymore. we would never tolerate that. that's not an indication their behavior this change, and donald trump will k make that point. >> wouldn't be the first time they've had a fall guy. good to see you. the. >> reporter: thank you. >> 20 minutes al the top of the nev hour. the independents voters, what do they need to hear the seal the deal? a fair and balanced debate live

and robert graham. thank you for joining us early this morning. >> good morning. >> leslie, i'll start with you and the obvious question. you can see the difference in terms of the undecideds and who they are leaning toward. what are they looking to hear? >> if you look at polls or social media or calling into talk shows, they say they care about the issues and they are tired to the personal attacks on both sides, but because more of the attacks have seemed at least in the debates coming from donald trump toward hillary clinton, that has hurt him with that group. they also felt a lot of her experience and knowledge staying calm has benefitted them. ken bone even said he was a protrump guy going into the debate but he was leaning toward her. >> i believe he's going to be on
1:43 am
"fox and friends" later today. in terms of issues, we have debt entitlements, the supreme court, foreign spots and fitness to be president. which one of the topics or is there one more important than the other for undecided voters? >> i think they're looking at three critical areas. leslie talked about experience. that's what people are looking at. with the experience donald trump has with jobs and job creation. hillary clinton has 30 years of experience not doing a whole lot for the american people. so number one, i think that's one thing. the other thing is we talk about opportunity. you have a crow wieo with a tra record of creating jobs. states are hurting jobs and want to take pressure off the taxpayers. they look at him and say get on the issue. and the biggest one is security. i have a sweet daughter, faith, 13 years old who is afraid to go to movie theaters. she thinks someone will come out
1:44 am
with guns. whether it's isis or immigration, at this point americans want jobs, opportunity, and safety, and that's where trump has to stay on that message. i that will pull a lot of undecided voters over. they want to like trump. >> what about some of the other issues front and center? we have all these wikileaks e-mails that have come through. we talked about some of these. we also have youtube videos that have been posted online that show some of the democratic operatives talking about behind the scenes dealings getting votes. should donald trump bring that up? >> absolutely. you hear about -- he talked about the election being rigged. it's not just in the sense of the condition of the polling stations or bad behavior at the polling stations. it goes back to the mainstream media, but then you sigh ee peo
1:45 am
bringing conflict. this is coming from leadership that's associated with her over the years. and it's been absolutely destructive for his campaign in some ways, but she's now being dammed in so many different ways because people are now saying enough is enough. and the e-mails are one thing, but it's just a pattern of bad behavior. that's putting pressure on her campaign. >> leslie, what about that? >> i'm sorry. i just don't see that. i mean, i see the polls trending upward. whether it's in battle ground states or undecided voters, independents, women, latinos, african americans, on a national level across the board. with regard to experience with jobs, nobody mentioned, even hillary, and i'll yell at the tv that donald trump is the ceo who went jobs to china and mexico. and frankly that doesn't help him to bring up the wikileaks, i think most people have seen not what's in the wikileaks, but somebody said something they didn't say in reference to an actual e-mail that wikileaks
1:46 am
leeke leaked. i think the fact but not the fiction on the internet. >> robert? >> it doesn't surprise me to hear a liberal radio talk show person say the wikileaks doesn't matter. i mean, we've seen countless e-mails coming forward that actually demonstrate she's pu e perjury to america. it's a sad reality when she keeps getting the path and she's not being held accountable. >> we'll see if the voters do. >> that's it. that's the magic. >> thank you, robert and rlesli. we'll have you back to finish your thoughts. the election 20 days away, and it comes down to the voters. what do you need to hear from the candidates at the final debate? we're getting a big response. bruce says the retired and disabled veteran, i'd like to know what the candidates are going to do for the homeless

10 minutes before the top of the hour. president obama using a rose garden ceremony to attack donald trump. telling the gop nominee to stop whining. jackie is with us. good morning. >> president obama jumping into the ring to take on donald trump who has insisted the democrats and the media are rigging the
