8:00 pm
have a great night. hi. we'll get right to our top story. donald trump versus the media. mr. trump has sought to make peace with the media this week after a blistering campaign inviting big tv big wigs to trump tower and sitting down for an interview. the hostility from the media hasn't stopped. president-elect trump has denounced white supremist groups. >> should he go out and deliver
8:01 pm
a speech specifically denouncing these white supremacists. >> at some point you have got to take, you know, his position and move on. >> but he doesn't seem to go out of his way to express his outrage over people hailing him with nazi salutes. why won't he make it clear he wants no part of these people? >> i think it's asked and answered, wolf. i told you it's the news media over and over and over again asking the same questions. >> president-elect donald trump went around the traditional media and made a pitch directly to the american people in a thanksgiving message. >> we just finished a long and bruising political cam pachbpai. tensions don't heal overnight.
8:02 pm
it doesn't go quickly, unfortunately. we have before us the chance now to make history together to bring real change to washington, real safety to our cities and real prosperity to our cities including our inner cities. so important to me and so important to our country. to succeed we must enlist the effort of our entire nation. >> joining us now for reaction who serves as white house press secretary. thanks for joining us. i look back maybe 10 or 12 days ago trump looked into the camera and said stop it. just yesterday he gets asked time and time again by the new york times reporters, hey, will you disavow. how much more do they want? the love affair with this alt-right movement scandal or controversy? >> the press swooned over barack
8:03 pm
obama and in dispair over donald trump. that's what is driving all of this. compare it to what happened in 2008 when he endorsed barack obama when he was running in the democratic primary. it came out for obama. obama reputuated it, said he wasn't interested but then he said barack obama did. i can't say to someone that he can't say that he thinks i'm a good guy. did the press go nuts in 2008? it was barely a blip in the press's radar compare today this. >> so why do they do it to the right? they support the left. >> and he is running. he wants to be the head of the dnc. he ruled positive things in the past but you wouldn't hear that in the liberal mainstream media.
8:04 pm
monday the u.s.a. today wrote a high profile piece comparing the election of donald trump to three moments in american history. listen to what they were, the civil war, assassination of martin luther king jr. and nixon's resignation. this is how they see this. >> that's what i mean. they are in dispair. think about it this way too. they describe barack obama as historic. donald trump is the first businessman, the first outsider. are they calling donald trump's election historic? no. they are calling it pretty much the opposite, whatever they can say about it being a continuation of tragedy. this is what happens when squlou a press corp. passing judgment about these events. it's why barack obama had a honey moon that lasted almost
8:05 pm
his entire presidency and donald trump won't get one at all. >> donald trump went to the new york times to meet and greet and was gracious enough to do an on the record meeting. part of that meeting was on the record. it was amazing. will he now get a fair shake from the new york times? >> no. he won't get a fair shake from anybody in the media. you can see in the negative headlines. you can see it in the tone which he is covering it. get used to it. there will be cordial relationship between donald trump and the press. the same type of coverage they use in the campaign is what they will use now. what intrigued me is how he has a unique ability to fight back because the press has made him so unpopular throughout the country. so when the press brings this on themselves it's not a surprise that when trump punches back most don't agree.
8:06 pm
the press isolated itself. it is a group we have to depend on in this country and to keep the government in check and to keep donald trump in check. i believe in that. they have lost too much of their credibility to do it. >> who needs whom more? i know we need each other but does donald trump need the press on his side? he has already gone around. his first policy delivery was on facebook, i believe. who needs who more? >> time and technology change everything. if we released a video like that it would have been perceived as government propaganda. there were no other platforms to carry that message. barack obama paved the way for donald trump to go around the media. president obama took advantage of technology to put out a lot of messages himself. that's only going to grow even
8:07 pm
more pronounced as donald trump takes control of the same technologies and tools left behind at the white house. yeah. he will be able to go around the white house press corp. a lot. what is fascinating is he also goes through the press corp. interview with the new york times, interview with 60 minutes. he has a fascinating ability to go around them and through them and complain about them at the same time. >> he is able to work them very well. have a great thanksgiving. next, being announcements they are not without controversy. controversy. we'll tell y
8:09 pm
as after a dvt blood clot, ital i sure had a lot to think about. what about the people i care about? ...including this little girl. and what if this happened again? i was given warfarin in the hospital, but wondered, was this the best treatment for me? so i asked my doctor. and he recommended eliquis. eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots and reduces the risk of them happening again. yes, eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots. eliquis also had significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. both made me turn around my thinking.
8:10 pm
don't stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. don't take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. if you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. while taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily ...and it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots. plus had less major bleeding. both made eliquis the right treatment for me. ask your doctor if switching to eliquis is right for you. some big announcements from president-elect donald trump. he plans to nominate nikk
8:11 pm
nikki haley. reports are swirling about whether ben carson will become trump's nominee for secretary of housing and urban development. while the trump team has been making decisions elizabeth warren sent a letter to the government accountability office requesting the review of trump's chaotic transition. what's this all about? joining us to tell us the real story is a member of the trump transitional team executive committee. >> possibly ben carson. >> yeah. diversity nonidealogical problem solvers. he is being very deliberate about who he is picking. he is going through a whole full scale process. you know kellyanne.
8:12 pm
you know me personally. there has been nothing like that. >> it seems very very well controlled. >> and we are reaching out to so many people to send a message he will be president for everybody. >> you have a close relationship with mitt romney. >> i do. >> tell us what's going on there. people said maybe it's secretary of state. maybe it should be something else. is he on the very short list of secretary of state? >> he sent the message that we want a plus plus players on the team. so yes, a little bit of soreness from the campaign rhetoric but not from mike huckabee. he made a comment. he also said i think he said there are 100 people that would
8:13 pm
be better suited. >> i respect both of those guys. they were in the fox hole with us fighting the good fight. it was two great patriots. if you saw the things he said about lincoln or saw the things he said about president obama you know these campaigns get very con -- contenious. we have a camera sitting outside. we had the camera waiting at the golf course as well. there is a combination of people he trusts. this is absolutely the case. are they serving the interest of the american people. when i say the american people
8:14 pm
this is somebody i can trust so that i can lean on them and they will tell me the truth. one of the big problems is you can get surrounded and with his strong personality he wants people to tell him the truth. >> before you go on, did it matter where they were during the campaign as far as being anti-trump? >> i think he has got to put a blend in. one of the big problems, you could get an organ donor. i think he would be open to just about anything that would serve the interest of the american people and make for a fantastic donald j. trump presidency. we have to have some status quo mixed with disrupters. if you too many providers nothing changes in washington.
8:15 pm

8:19 pm
candidacy and while some are praising trump for attempting to unite the party others are much more critical. >> i would be concerned, one, i think the vast majority of trump supporters will initially be very unhappy and will be reminded of all of the things romney said over the year. and two, because romney does represent a very different viewpoint i'm not sure whose secretary of state he would be. i could think of 20 other people who would be naturally compatible. >> right. >> joining us now kelly, a washington times columnist and a republican strategist and former senior adviser. we'll start with you. these names are swirling. i need to point out the three names that were floated today. one is apparently up in the air. ben carson, african american, we
8:20 pm
have nikki haley of indian decent. betsy also are people who were anti-trump. i don't know. he seems to be picking people who are surprising a lot of people. >> look, i think betsy will benefit from that pick. let's go to ben carson. he didn't have a firm grasp on policy. he didn't have a firm grasp on how government works. he said earlier this month that he is not qualified for holding a government -- a government agency. he actually said that he could cripple the presidency. that's not -- those are not words you want to hear from a cabinet secretary. that's the kind of thing i question. i actually had the opportunity to pick cabinet directors. you really have to pick them
8:21 pm
with their skill set and that's one that worries me. >> i'm sorry. >> it worries you for -- maybe some of these were when ben carson was considered a possibility for surgeon general, no? >> he said he couldn't run the government agency is what they were saying. >> let me bring kelly in. >> he is one of the more respected compassionate voices in the g.o.p. right now. housing policy is not brain surgery. i think ben carson can get around it. he was one of the first advocates that brought donald trump to detroit to speak to the african american communities, to reach out to these voters that quite frankly republicans have been doing a very poor job at doing. you know, at hud they were responsible for about 2.2 million people as well as making -- >> so i want to -- let's talk
8:22 pm
about two people. we heard the potential for mitt romney being part of the administration and also nik nikki haley. you got to give the man credit for listening to people who were against him for the better part of 18 months. >> yes. this reminding me a lot of lincoln's cabinet. he named three cabinet members that were adversaries. i think he is looking to put his stake in the heart and to be the president for all people. this is one of the key things in doing this. mitt romney was very personal attacks. so if he does get -- if donald trump does that i would like to hear from mitt romney and how he changed his tune a little bit and how gracious he would be in accepting the role as secretary of state. there cannot be two ceo's running this country. >> i think he says mitt romney
8:23 pm
owes donald trump an apolicy. >> i'm hoping beyond hope that because right now the foreign policy team is very then. >> how can you have mitt romney when donald trump is pretty much a noninterventionist. you have mitt romney who likely is completely different opposite when it comes to foreign policy. how can you have him representing america? >> he will bring a tremendous amount. >> it doesn't keep us out of wars. it doesn't keep young men and women -- >> mitt romney has never been considered warmonger. i don't think he is a nation builder. i think he is bringing a lot to the table. it concerns me. i talked to reagan national security adviser today.
8:24 pm
today there was an article -- >> he is a national security adviser -- >> you want to know -- >> i'm running out of time. kelly, final boarword. >> we'll be able to say radical islamic terrorism and that's because of donald trump and mike flynn. trump said he had no intention of prosecuting hillary clinton while secretary of stale. is that the right decision. and later, what will happen to sanctuary cities now that republicans are in power? we hope you stay tuned for those reports. (man) my dad and i have the same eyes.

had been fears of a pilot strike would delay christmas orders but they will decide to strike fact. president-elect donald trump famously called hillary clinton crooked hillary and pledge today have a special prosecutor investigate her private e-mail serv server. speaking to the new york times yesterday plfrmt trump indicated he no longer intended to press for a new clinton probe. some are praising donald trump. >> i think it's right to do it. you put that behind us. yes. there are probably offenses t t which are prosecutable. that's not what we want to do.
8:30 pm
we do not want to see national political opponents putting each other in jail. even though procedureally he cannot say this it is the equivalent of saying i would issue a pardon. >> others are expressing that trump would reverse a major campaign promise. we have a former federal prosecutor. let's start with you. we talked about this a little bit. this was campaign promises of -- >> he says -- >> here is the thing. president-elect donald trump, that's really not his role. it is important to distinguish this. that is the role of the attorney general. as a lawyer i'm really sad to
8:31 pm
see how political our department of justice has gotten over this campaign cycle. i'm happy to see it go back to an apolitical place. i think let's look him review the evidence and let him make a decision. that's his role to say whether or not she should be prosecuted or not. trump should say hands off this at this point. >> if you don't prosecute a big crime like a clinton crime how are you going to prosecute a maul irs claim? >> i read the transcript. he never said he wasn't going after her. he never said his administration wouldn't go after him. i believe that's not his role anyway. it would be that of the attorney general. as you just pointed out, he is no fan of mrs. clinton. they will have a chance to review if prosecution could be justified. >> i agree with that.
8:32 pm
they said if more evidence comes to light it will be prosecuted. there could be a possible pardoning. your thoughts on that? >> i don't think the president will take office and pardon hillary clinton any time soon. she is saying if she will get pardoned it won't be his job. >> i would agree with that. i would say it would be not good for hillary clinton for anybody to be pardoning her at this point. some are calling on barack obama to pardon her kind of in advance. i think that's not the move to make. >> but he shouldn't do it. >> what about this? donald trump claimed because he is president elect this is conflict of interest laws that he is exempt from? >> he is right on the law. he doesn't have any legal problems. politically speaking there could be an appearance of impro pprie.
8:33 pm
legally he has no problem. >> a blind trust doesn't count if you're in the executive branch of the white house you can't put assets into a blind trust. >> i disagree in part. true there is no law that says the president cannot have a conflict of interest. there are other laws like bribery laws and other laws that would be applicable to him. for instance, i know he has interest in india. if he got benefits based on his position as president that would be illegal. the only way to resolve these is transparency. he has to disclose all of his interests. he has to make it clear there's a strong line that divides his personal interest from the government's interest and he has
8:34 pm
to abide by that line. doing anything less will call into question. no doubt he has an adversary y'all media coming after him. it is very easily done in terms of -- >> but what we are talking about is not necessarily the law which is how it's going to be perceived and viewed in politics. >> and i think that's important. there is such a thing as mitigating that type of bad situation. if i'm president-elect donald trump i want to mitigate that. it's not that it's bad per se. >> and because you're -- >> sure, but there is a question about enriching yourself. many would say that's the downfall of hillary clinton. >> and they said anything he may do might actually effect his bottom line. that's why he is exempt from it.

thanks for staying with us. in the personal story segment basketball super star lebron james took offense to phil jackson referring to his business associates as a posse. he said he did not believe he would have used the word if his business partners were white. >> my thanks to lebron james for calling a way in which language is used to devalue people of color. he was recently upset by the use of the word posse to define his business associates. we have long watched and listened as broadcaster and white teammates as hard workers. >> host of espn talked about the
8:40 pm
issue. so you don't think jack son used the word to denigrate him do you? >> i think he tries to tweak everybody from time to time. certainly the word racist shouldn shouldn't be associated with jackson. no one need to go that far. at the same time when he articulates the word posse he is looking at a guy like lebron james and his crew of young men and looking at them in a different concern not respecting who they are as far as a businessm businessman. he is a bona fide agent. big time marketing guy, really does a lot for lebron james on the marketing side. you take all of those things in consideration.
8:41 pm
>> you know elvis presley? >> of course i rebel vimember e. he had the memphis mafia. i referred to them as elvis's posse. now posse has a racial overtone? what is that? i don't understand. >> it's not about the fact that it has a racial overtone. it's about the fact that in certain cases it comes across that way to an african american like lebron james who goes out of his way to be recognized not just as a big time star athlete. >> so posse is running down his business asoesh yachsociateasso? isn't that overly sensitive? don't you think that's a bit overly sensitive? >> no. beackson and he
8:42 pm
knows better. in the case of phil jackson who coached kobe bryant and never said that, who has been around african americans and are friends with a lot of these guys -- >> so i want to be clear about this. if i use the word posse in the context of an aftrican american is that racist? >> not at all. listen, phil jackson knows these guys, knows what they have sensitive to etcetera. you're doing your television show. >> i'm trying to be very cool. i listen to jay-z. i am trying to get all of the jargon down. >> how is that coming for you? >> it is coming slow. we had a conversation about colin kaepernick. we learned today he has never

donald trump pledged to defund and republicans in congress are already making plans to carry through on that pledge. here is congressman from texas. >> if you want federal money follow federal law. >> i am confident and everything is prepositioned for new york to lose their federal money. it is their position. if you want to protect criminal aliens don't ask for money. those days are over. >>. >> follow the money, right?
8:49 pm
if you break federal law you lose out on all of those funds that the feds give to you to secure your borders. >> if they were that simple. it's amazing to me the congressman who is in charge of spending the money doesn't know how the money is spent. it is to enforce immigration laws. it's not aid like welfare. they have to take training. they have to do that to get the money. if we don't give him the money then they are not going to help immigration customs enforcements do their job. >> there is a way to cut off some of this additional funding, right? >> of course there is. if you argue for the sovereignty of a state over a city over the federal government then you really -- i assume francisco would leap when he tried to make
8:50 pm
alabama segregation a state. if each city can decide for itself which laws it will obey and which it is not i think federal funds across the board withheld until they come within the law. >> so if a state is violating federal marijuana laws were you're not suggesting that some of the funding for their state jail answers prisons and law ene enforcement be pulled back, do you? >> no. but i'm not a constitutional lawyer. i'm not sure how the drug laws are applied but i do know that immigration is a federal law. and for a city to decide it is going to ignore a federal law, has to have some kind of consequences. >> the city is not telling anyone they are not following federal law. the money is designed so they will help enforce federal law.
8:51 pm
>> francisco, breaking laws -- the law says the local municipalities need to turn over illegals that they catch, turn them over to i.c.e. for deportation and they say they will not do that. >> i.c.e. does the holding. i.c.e. sends a detainer on anybody they believe is -- >> >> yes. and they reject i.c.e. they say, no. >> francisco, the mayors said we won't turn these people over even though i.c.e. knows about the people illegal held by the cities. >> i.c.e. doesn't need their help. they could come in. it is federal law. they could come in. >> all right, mr. miller, am i wrong that i.c.e. cannot go into a jail and grab someone out of the jail cell? >> they certainly can, yes -- >> that is not the way it works. >> u.s. marshals do everyday. >> go ahead. >> perhaps a u.s. marshal can come in and do it. i don't think the i.c.e. people can take over a police department or city jail. >> it is the same level. yes. they do it everyday.
8:52 pm
>> fran kiss scisco, please. let him talk. >> i heard rob emmanuel say forever chicago will be a sanctuary city. i want you people to know you're safe here. hell, nobody is safe in chicago. >> true. >> so i don't know how he made that statement. but it's just not right. >> this is a federal law. >> it is. a federal law. and you keep thinking of a story very familiar to this show, kate steinle, her perpetrator of the person who killed her was dacaut seven times, accused and convicted of felony answers still let go. >> it isn't the city's fault -- >> it is the city ae fau's faul because they didn't turn him over. >> we waited 16 years for them to act. now the republicans have. all three seats of the legislature. let's see if they act. are they going to pass immigration reform.
8:53 pm
>> i tell you what, this debate is not over. but we have to leave it there. straight ahead, willie robertson recently stepped into the no spin zone with bill o'reilly and takes a victory lap for president-elect donald trump. you're not going to want to miss this. picking up for kyle. here you go. you wouldn't put up with part of a pizza. um. something wrong? so when it comes to pain relievers, why put up with just part of a day? you want the whole thing? yes, yes! live whole. not part. aleve.

when it comes to heartburn... trust the brand doctors trust. nexium 24hr is the #1 choice of doctors and pharmacists for their own frequent heartburn. for all day and all night protection... banish the burn... with nexium 24hr. in the back of the book segment tonight, willie robertson in the no spin zone. recently he sat down with an interview with bill about why he supported president-elect donald trump's campaign and about his new book, american fisherman, how anglers financed and shaped the usa. recently announcing the current season of the "duck dynasty" would be its last.
8:56 pm
>> did you think trump was going to win? >> well, obviously i did, because i've been supporting him for so long. but i have to admit to you, bill, the last day i wasn't so sure. ways beginning to think it was going to be too big of an uphill battle. but i sat around with everybody else and watched him take it down. >> now what was it about trump that made you support him? was it one thing? >> i would say a combination of a lot of things. i like that he was a regular person. i was able to meet him summer before last. and got up on stage with him. was able to tang out with him on a bus. unlike a lot of politicians that i know he just seemed like a regular guy. i was interested in that big shake-up in washington. i wanted that to happen. also the supreme court was huge for me and my family, and i just kind of like the way he talked. he also mentioned christians getting their heads chopped off and he was one of the few i heard that talking about that a lot. so yeah, he sounded like a guy
8:57 pm
that i could support and, you know, it had its ups and downs but i'm glad he made it. >> as far as the christian vote is concerned, president-elect took it, most of it. but then you have some christians who say, you know, he is a racist or he is anti-muslim or he is not a charitable man, wants it keep people out. all negative, negative, negative toward the poor. do you counter that? do you have a counter argument to that? >> not really. i mean, you know, my family has heard a lot of the same kind of accusations. so i'm kind of used to it as well. people that don't really know you and just start spouting off what you are. i know his family very well and i know him. and i know he is not a racist. and you know, he is concerned with the world's problems and so you know, all those things were taken out. there were conversations i had, probably like a lot of husbands
8:58 pm
and wives and families, even my father was behind cruz. he had interesting dinner table conversations. but at the end of the day, once it got down to basically two choices, it wases a hey for us to throw behind mr. trump. >> your traditional crew that means that you would of course go for the traditional guy rather than the progressive. now your book "the american fishermen" is not just about casting lures out there. you've got a lot of history in that book. >> a lot of history. >> about how fishing is an integral part of america. give me a brief headline on that. >> you know, we go back through the history. i read your book as well, killing the rising son. i thoug sun. it is historical but rather than the world being opt brink of annihilation, it is about fishing. fdr was there. so when i was reading your book, it made me think about fdr.
8:59 pm
