it's called socialism. >> george will again attacking trump but this one is really hard to believe. >> caution, you are about to enter the no spin zone. the factor begins right now. ♪ ♪ >> hi i'm bill o'reilly. thanks for watching us tonight. we're awaiting donald trump. he's expected to speak in iowa any time. so we will take you out there when mr. trump begins. for critics of donald trump, his president-elect posture is not a happy time and that is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. it's a problem almost every president-elect has had. certainly barack obama and george w. bush experienced it. those who oppose their election sought to undermine both men as soon as they won. that's happening now with donald trump. but here's the difference. when mr. trump, the undermining is occurring on both the left and the right. case in point, conservative

george will, "the washington post" columnist who also provides analysis for fox news. will despises trump. feels that he is an intellectual inferior and even left wielded the republican party because of trump's nomination. certainly george will is right as both an american and an analyst to criticize not only donald trump but any powerful person he wants. we have no beef with that. what is troubling, however, is that much of will's negative analysis is driven by personal animus. and it is here that he does his readers and viewers a great disservice. last night on "special report" will hammered trump over the carrier situation. >> the problem is when you have in the carrier case political power used to bring pressure upon a privately held corporation that has a fiduciary duty to shareholder and drive them off political pressure about making economic decisions about economic assets you are, in effect, at the end
5:03 pm
of the day, at the end of the day, getting the federal government involved in capital allocation. there is a name for that. it's called socialism. >> putting the annoying at the at the end of the day cliche aside, every hour of the day will's analysis is ridiculous. it is true that carrier corporation has an obligation to maximize profits. that's true. but if it does that, by hurting the country, in which it is operating, then the man in charge of that country, the president, has an obligation to challenge that. under will's analysis, which is absurd, any corporation hurting american workers should be left alone, hey. it's their business. let them do what they want to do. maximize profits. does that make sense to you? does it really? president trump's obligation, his obligation and it should have been
5:04 pm
president obama's as well but it wasn't, is to try to protect american jobs. so trump had a conversation with carrier, basically said if you hurt your workers by moving to mexico, expect that we will use legal tariffs to hold you accountable. that's not socialism. that's hard ball economics. socialism, as george will should know, is the government actually running the economy. telling carrier what they can charge for their products or what wages they have to pay their workers. that is socialism. trump simply is saying to every american company we expect you to help the u.s.a. by finding a way to keep and create jobs here. and if you move abroad and jobs are lost, you will pay a legal price. again, that's what president trump should be doing. that's what president obama did not do.
5:05 pm
and that's a big reason why wages for american workers are stagnant. too many jobs have been moved overseas. memo to george will, drop the personal stuff. tell the truth. and that's the memo. now for the top story. reaction. with us juan williams. where am i going wrong? >> i think you are right. by the way the symbolism the message to all-american companies coming from president-elect trump is pretty effective. watch yourself if you are going to take jobs out of this country because i have got my eye on you. i think that has value and i think politically, given the base that was so important to donald trump, blue collar workers, it's effective. but if you are asking me about economic policy, let me just say this to you. one, why wouldn't i, if i'm an employer, bill, immediately say i'm thinking of leaving and then expect the government to intercede and try to give me incentives, tax benefits, that's what carrier gained as a result of my threat? so the second. >> okay, that's good business sense if you want to horse trade.
5:06 pm
trump is a deal maker, carrier is a dealmaker. we haven't seen the deal. we don't know what carrier got so we can't discuss it? >> wait a second. i think indiana gave them. >> that's the state not trump. >> and then donald trump got involved and said in addition, if did you go overseas. >> yeah. >> i will impose a 35% tariff. >> but there is nothing wrong with that. the president's obligation is to protect americans. would you agree? >> absolutely. >> all right. so the primary way he protects americans is through the military and fighting people like isis and other people who would come and kill us. the second way he protects americans is to say to companies, not foreign corporations, domestic corporations, listen, you're in business in america, all right? this is where you make your profits. we want you to succeed. if you choose to leave america and thereby putting unemployment on this many people, don't expect us, all right, not to challenge
5:07 pm
that. and the challenge is a legal tariff. nothing wrong with that. >> so let me respond. >> nothing wrong. >> here's the thing. which americans are you representing, bill o'reilly? americans who would have to pay higher prices when they go to the store as a result of this action -- >> -- let me stop you then. this is not a monopoly. if carrier wants to pass on the 35% tariff to its customers, i don't have a problem with that. because carrier has to compete with other companies that aren't going to have to pay the 35%. so their product is going to be more expensive and fewer people will buy it. >> here's the problem with that argument. so if i'm a company that's based in france or based in mexico, then i am sending my goods into the united states not paying a tariff and essentially you are punishing that x american company and putting american companies at disadvantage in the marketplace with these foreign companies. >> if the french company has

no impact on american jobs, i'm not going to even bother with them. let's get to the socialism thing now. this is socialism to try to make a deal, the president trying to make a deal with measure corporations to keep jobs here? that's socialism? >> no. you're right on this point. >> thank you. >> but let me ask you something. the question is how far do you go? if every other company says you i want to do this. >> you have a law. >> then you are picking winners and losers, bill. >> you can pick winners and losers all day long if you are president. >> don't do that with our economy. let corporations act on free market principles. >> if you want to milton freidman me we don't have time for theory. you asked a question, all right? the question accept this. if you are a president looking out for the folks, the workers. >> and the consumers. >> you use what legal meth methods you have. and as president can you impose certain trade tariffs. and if you -- i would do exactly what trump did.
5:09 pm
exactly. because these companies have a choice. nobody's forcing them to move to mexico. they are doing it to try to squeeze a few extra bucks. by scweesing the bucks, they are putting the american economy in the doldrums and hurting americans. last word. >> what about the threat of them starting, igniting a trade war. let's say that mexico says oh, we have carrier, you're putting this big tariff on them. >> yeah. >> guess what, we're not going to put additional tariff, we're going to break apart any trade deal. >> mexico wants to do a trade war with the u.s.a.? all day long, man. >> you're smiling because you think no problem. >> that trade war would last about two days. >> so what then, germany? britain? keep going, bill, keep going. >> if the trade war, when it comes, we will take a lock at it right now, trump's job is to protect american workers and did he it. >> but not with the one-time deal. >> i'm glad you see that socialism was a reuse. >> who will be trump's secretary of state?

work in russia going back to the yelton era. donald trump i'm told was very impressed with him and i'm told to expect another meeting in the coming days. >> so the man's name is rex tillerson, the ceo of exxon mobil. businessman, obviously. i'm not sure whether the iranians, you know, because that's the secretary of state's top job. if trump is going to do something about the iran nuke deal but i don't know mr. tillerson and i will take your word for it what about mitt romney? is he still in the hunt? >> mitt romney is still in the mix there are concerns in the trump camp that that speech he gave in march to the hinckley institute in which he said that donald trump would be dangerous as president that that would follow him from capitol to capitol as he made his way around the world and they just are concerned that they may not be able to get beyond that and there also are concerns that since he was not close to donald trump during the election, does he really speak for the president once is he in charge?
5:15 pm
so concerns about romney. you also have rudy giuliani who you mentioned. he has not been seen coming in and out of trump tower by our producers who have been staked out there for the last two weeks. i'm told that he is little bit on the outs right now. president-elect trump was very put off, if you will. he was offered dhs chief. he turned it down. >> department of homeland security. so he could have been the ice czar, giuliani. and he turned it down outright? >> he turned it down, i'm told. he could have had it of course general john kelly a four star marine was offered that and has said that he would accept that position. so, that's a fine choice over at dhs. but giuliani was also publicly touting saying that he wanted secretary of state. he spoke at a "wall street journal" ceo counts sill recently irecent -- council in d november in which donald trump was, what put off by
5:16 pm
his publicly talking about how he would be the perfect secretary of state. >> so he was lobbying with the "wall street journal" people and trump didn't like that according to your sources, right? >> um-huh. >> that being said, rudy giuliani was probably one of the closest people to trump during the election. one source told me, you know, he could finish, you know, the president-elect's sentences. >> that's why i'm surprised we haven't seen the mayor and we don't know where he is i thought he might be at your house having snacks. now we are looking at vice president elect pence. is he in iowa. going to warm up the crowd for donald trump. so when mr. trump comes on we will take that speech. what about general petraeus. former cia chief? is he still in the running for secretary of state or anything else? >> excellent, excellent question. i think that once the four star marine general john kelly was chosen for dhs, it makes it very difficult for crump to choose another retired four star to be his secretary of state.
quote
5:17 pm
that being said, i'm told from sources very close to donald trump that he really liked general petraeus. when he met with him, they spoke for over an hour. it was a meeting of minds, so i think they are still trying to find a position for general petraeus. >> what about cia? >> well, remember, mike pompeo has already been offered that position. >> i forgot that thank you for correcting me. so pompeo is going to be cia chief. there is a lot of other chiefs. like dya. >> dni director of national intelligence that would oversee the 17 spedges agencies. i wouldn't rule that out as a possibility. >> nsa, national security agency, secret guys? >> again, i think the concern, i think the concern is that they don't want to be accused of having a hunta. >> too many generals? >> too many generals but at the same time the generals are the ones that donald trump seems to be relating the most to. >> he likes those tough

long time ago and it's been on a downward trajectory since it started. in 1996, 20 years ago, i wrote an op-ed in the "wall street journal" about liberal bice in the news. i was a correspondent at cbs news at the time. and as you might recall, bill, it touched off the media eequivalent of world war iii. let me read you one sentence. the very first sentence of the op-ed, there are lots of reasons fewer people are watching network news. and one of them i'm more convinced than ever is that our viewers simply don't trust us and for good reason. the problem is that piece came out in february of 1996 and if you didn't like what was going on, you had no place to go. in october of 1996, something happened that changed the media landscape in a gigantic major way and that was fox news. fox news happened and as a result, people who weren't happy and didn't trust the

mainstream media had some place to go where they could feel at home, where they could have their values reflected and their own opinions validated. that's the big difference. they had some place to go. >> that's right. you would think that the mainstream media, after the success of fox news over the years would have caught on. you just can't be this crazy. we can't idolalize to the extent we don't report on him and can't hate donald trump so much that we won't even tell the truth about what's happening in the campaign. so i have to let did you go early, goldberg. i hate to do that. you know that but we will give you extra time. >> whose the guy in the red tie? >> that's trump. and i believe that's a trump tie. and now is he shaking hands with mike pence. and he is going to talk about donald trump, i believe. that's what he usually talks about. so say goodbye to bernie and say hello to president-elect trump. >> wow, beautiful.

[cheers and applause] and we will put our people, not people from other lands, our people back to work in the process. okay? [cheers and applause] it's time to help americans get off the welfare. and get back into the labor market. and they're going to want to do it. rebuilding this country with american hands by american workers.
5:47 pm
we're going to do it. we're going to have people that haven't worked for years, they're going to love working. they're going to love it they're going to be incentivized. my administration will follow two simple rules. buy american and hire american. [cheers and applause] remember years ago we used to proudly display made in the u.s.a. you go get a car, right? 100 percent made in the u.s.a. do you see it? i don't see it anymore. we ought to start doing it. any of the manufacturers and we are doing a lot of talking to a lot of companies thinking about leaving. i will tell you i don't think they are going to be leaving so fast anymore. they're knot goings to be leaving so fast anymore. pause we love our companies and we love it when they're employing thousands of
5:48 pm
people. but we don't love our companies when they leave and go to another country and think they can make their product and sell it back into our country like they are a bunch of follows that they have been getting away with for the last 30 years. there will be consequences. when they want to read leave i wish them well. enjoyth plant and hot weather. if you think you will soon be coming through what you think will be a very, very strong border. not going to happen so easily. we're not requesting to be the stupid people anymore, folks. we're not going to be the stupid people. because from now on it's going to be america first. going to be america first. very simple. some of the deals made -- and i've been studdingy them -- actually, i like reading deals. i have been studying some of
5:49 pm
these deals. they are horrible. they are inconceivable. we will have some great news for you on the very near future. on trade, on trade deficit. now -- northeasterly $800 billion a year. we trade. i want a free trader. but it has to make sense. you don't want loose $800 billion a year. it's a chronic drag on growth and they a total destroyer of jobs and the wealth of our country. so we don't want that anymore. [ applause ] and by the way, some of the people i put on to negotiate, you have been noticing are some of the most successful people in the world. and one newspaper criticized me why can't they have people of modest means? because i want people that made a fortune because now they are negotiating with you. okay? it's no different than a great baseball player or a
5:50 pm
great golfer. i mean, we want the people that are going to bring -- they're so proud to do it. these people have given up fortunes of income, florida to make a dollars a year. they are so proud to do it.watc going to happen. it's going to happen fast, too. going to happen fast. going to happen very fast. and we actually have -- we've been given tremendous reviews on people we've gotten. that's why we'll renegotiate our trade deals, stop the product dumping, the currency ma up cy manipulation which is totally out of control which makes it impossible for our companies to compete. and to defend every last american job. we're going to do it. it's going to be so -- it's going to be fun. i actually love calling these
5:51 pm
companies. i say, give me a list of ten companies that are leaving and i actually love calling these companies and saying, hi. and i get the president of this company and i say, hi, how are you doing. hello, mr. president-elect. congratulation. yeah, congratulations. while we're on the phone. don't leave. please don't leave. we've been having great success. on the military we'll show the whole world that america is strong again. we're going to have a very strong military. i mean there's rarely been a time when we needed a strong military and a smart military more than we have now. right? there's rarely been a time. we will rebuild our badly depleted military and ensure that our service members have
5:52 pm
the equipment, training, technology and resources they need to get the job done. to get the job done. now, i have to say this. hopefully we will never have to use the power that we're build. we don't want to use it. we believe in peace through strength. we don't want to use it, but you got to be there. you got to be there. at the same time, we will ensure our veterans are the best medical care in the world, including the best health care for our female veterans who have also been the forgotten people. a lot of forgotten people in this country. a lot of forgotten people. be very strongly focused on female veterans who have really had it tougher than almost anybody. on childcare -- thank you. that's very nice.
5:53 pm
on childcare i'm asking congress to pass legislation to make safe and affordable childcare accessible to all while fighting to get higher pay for women, women in the workforce. that's what has to happen. and ensuring that women who have small businesses with access the capital they need. we're going to work on companies to be able to access the capital at the banks. right now there is no capital. you can't get a loan. we're going to open it up, you'll be able to get loans, you'll do great, you're going to hire a lot of people, expand our businesses. it's going to be a beautiful thing. a beautiful thing. has to happen. so many people can't get jobs. the unemployment number as you know is totally fiction. if you look for a job for six months and then you give up,
5:54 pm
they consider you give up. you give up. go home, say, darling, i can't get a job. they consider you statistically employed. it's not that way. but don't worry about it, it's going to take care of itself pretty quickly. we want to support every young woman in america who dreams of starting and owning a small business because that dream has not been a droem for the last long period of time. on health care reform -- and i want to tell you -- and i want to thank the women. i kept hearing for months i'm not going to do wrong with women. i kept saying why? what's wrong with women. i said, i'll trade the men for the women. i wanted -- and then we had the election. i did great with women. i led in many categories. and every time we'd have a rally i'd have those beautiful pink
5:55 pm
signs up, women for trump, women for trump. then i'd go home and turn on the television to see how mass uf my crowd was, and they would never show it. they talk about women. guess what. we did great with women. african-americ african-american, the african-american communities unbelievable. much much more in the past for other people. i heard that was going to be off and it was fantastic. plus a lot didn't go out and vote for hillary in all fairness. hispanic community incredible. with the males i set records, but who cares, right? who cares about the males? i'd like to switch it. i would rather set the records with the women. but we did very well with women. we did good with all groups. i'll tell you where we really did well, an all-time world record, not even close,
5:56 pm
evangelicals, i love you. evangelicals. we had such great help, the pastors, the ministers. we had such great help. and i won't go into great deal but we will get rid of the johnson amendment. okay? i promise you that. the johnson amendment is a disaster. on health care reform, every day the law known as obamacare is destabilizing our health care system, surging premiums and forcing providers out of the market. they're out of the market. nobody to talk to. nobody to talk to. if we don't act quickly, the damage will be irreversible. and our country can't afford it. not only can't you afford it. our country can't afford it. that's why we will and must repeal and replace obamacare.
5:57 pm
we have no choice. you know, premiums in some states, great state arizona, another one i won by a lot that was supposed to be like really close. at the beginning of the evening, i'm saying, this is like a lot of fun. but arizona was great to me. but obamacare is up 116%. 116%. it's going much higher. so we're going to get that taken care of. on crime, the murder rate has experienced its largest increase in 45 years. we're going to support the incredible men and women of law enforcement and we are going to bring this terrible crime wave to an end. on immigration, we will build
5:58 pm
the wall. and we will put an end to illegal immigration and stop the drugs from pouring into our country, the drugs are pouring into our country, poisoning our youth and plenty of other people. we will stop the drugs from pouring into our country. we will stop the drugs from poisoning our great and beautiful and loving youth. okay? we'll do it. and we have a man that we'll be introducing pretty soon, next week, who is going to do a phenomenal job called homeland security. used to be a political appointment. now it's like the most important appointment. and he's going to do a terrific job and he and his people are
5:59 pm
going to keep you safe. they're going to keep you safe. not going to be games. these are no longer political appointments. these are talented people, smart people, where they have to be they're tough people. is it okay to have some tough people, you know? because the enemy is tough, right? i think the enemy is pretty tough, right? so i think we need some tough people. but we have smart people and great people. during this campaign i had a chance to meet the incredible family of sara root, an iowa native killed at the age of 21 by an illegal immigrant who was released from custody two separate times. a trump administration will stop the violence that is spilling across our border. and believe me you've seen now, it is unbelievable how much there is. and we will fight to protect every last american life and
6:00 pm
life, and life. during the campaign i also spent time with american workers who were laid off and forced to train. the foreign workers brought in to replace them. we won't let this happen any more. can you believe that? you get laid off and then they won't give you your severance pay unless you train the people replacing you. that's actually demeaning maybe more than anything else. and you know the name of one of the companies that's doing it. i'm going to be nice because we're trying to get that company back. don't forget much harder when a company announced a year and a half ago -- some of these companies, like carrier, they announced long before i even knew i was going to beun
