the script is not yet written. we do not know what the page will read tomorrow. but for the first time in a long time, what we do know is that the pages will be authored by each and every one of you. it's a movement. >> the president-elect donald trump promised jobs or a renewed economy and defeating radical islamic state terrorism. and now in palm beach florida where the president-elect is starting his christmas vacation. so phil, what was the main message that mr. trump had? >> reporter: eric, in his words, we're going to make america great again by building the border wall and rebuilding the u.s. military, slashing taxes and of course creating jobs and rebuilding the u.s. infrastructure and in every state around the land. now the president-elect and his family and transition team leaders and advisers all behind me back here in florida at the

mar-a-largo resort which is his florida home during the winter months and today sunny and temperatures in the 80s. so how about that. why not do it. trump returns here at about 8:00 after his final thank you rally in mobile, alabama. where trump said his movement and stadium and arena size crowds all began. a water cannon salute and a host of southern bells greeted him as well as supporters and he reacted to michelle obama's comment taped on friday with oprah winfrey, now we're feeling what not having hope feels like. >> michelle obama said yesterday that there is no hope. but i assume she was talking about the past and not the future. because i'm telling you, we have tremendous hope and we have tremendous promise and tremendous potential.

>> reporter: in the speech last night trump promised the crowd that very soon he will announce his nominee to be secretary of veterans' affairs. that as well as the secretary of agriculture still to be made. jason miller, senior communication adviser telling me this morning that perhaps some news to come this afternoon but no promises. eric. >> and until tomorrow when the electoral college is finally set to meet to cast its vote. a lot of controversy on the electors to switch their votes and dump mr. trump. what are they saying at mar-a-largo about that this morning? >> well, they think it is a lost cause and won't change the out come. we know of a texas elector who said he will not cast his vote for trump even though trump overwhelmingly won texas. usually the electoral college is a rubber stamp of what happened on election night but this year celebrities and activists are urging electors in all 50 states where trump won or all 31 states

where he won to vote for someone else. on fox news sunday, reince priebus reacted to it all. >> even this question is insane. of course we didn't interface with the russians. this whole thing is a spin job and what the democrats ought to do is look in the mirror and face the reality that they lost the election because they are so out of touch with the american people they are still shell shocked and can't believe it and what is their recount, russians and leaked reports and now the press secretary saying that the reason hillary clinton lost -- people didn't like the product. that is why hillary clinton lost. >> of course there is a total of 538 electoral college members and they will all be convening tomorrow in all 50 state capitols to cast their votes. in florida, they'll be meeting in tallahassee at 2:00 p.m.

2016 campaign. now before president obama left for his holiday vacation on friday he did issue a very public warning to russian president vladimir putin saying his nation could face retaliation. now hillary clinton campaign chairman john podesta whose personal mails were hacked and were exposed back in october, we heard him speak out for the first time today since the election concluded. >> i think the russians clearly intervened in the election. and i think that the -- now we know that both the cia, the director of national intelligence, the fbi, all agree that the russians intervened to help trump. >> we've been hearing from hillary clinton and telling donors this weekend at a thank you event, putin's involvement stemmed from a personal beef with me and chris wallace sat down with reince priebus and he asked if the president-elect

people have signed the petitions to get the electors not to support president-elect donald trump. there are the final numbers. he has 306 so 37 of the electors need to switch, if there is a change and there are estimates today that some could but will it be enough to make any type of difference? caroline shively is live in washington with the numbers an the estimate and the forecast. >> hi, eric. 538 electors will meet across the country tomorrow to make the presidential election official. but there is growing pressure to flip them to keep president-elect trump out of the white house. if 37 republican electors flip, then mr. trump won't have the 270 votes to officially win. >> i don't know what i'm going to do monday. i may vote for secretary clinton, or i may vote for a republican that -- that 37 republican electors would want me to vote for. >> now that is coming from an elector bound to hillary clinton. democrats are now under pressure from some corners as well to

vote for a republican other than trump, sweeping someone else into office. election watchers say all of this is the longest of long shots. 29 states actually have laws that bond the electors to the candidate chosen by the voters in their states and it is very rare for even one elector to change votes in any given year. >> we have one particular individual in texas without a faith of selector statute in texas but other than that we're very confident that everything is going to be very smooth tomorrow and this harassment from groups like movon.org and the democratic party should stop and it is what the american people demand. >> if 37 electors did switch from trump to someone else, then it is up to the house of representatives that is controlled by republicans. eric. >> caroline, we'll see what tomorrow brings. thank you. arthel. a joyous occasion turning tragic in the blink of an eye when a tree falls on a wedding party taking pictures in southern california. the tree trapping up to 20

people at one point and officials say at least one person has died. will carr is live in whittier, california, where this all happened. >> reporter: residents tell me this is the most picture-esque park in this area. so often people come and celebrate their birthdays, they have wedding parties here, one woman just told me when she walked up to take in the scene behind me, that she celebrated her wedding here 40 years ago. that is what was happening yesterday around 5:00. a wedding party here, they were taking pictures. the leaves are changing and the trees behind me when a massive eucalyptus tree started cracking and came crashing down not leaving the members of the party with enough time to get to safety. we're told 100 firefighters rushed to the scene trying to help as many people as possible. in the end five people were injured. one killed. one of those who was hurt was a 4-year-old little girl who is now in critical condition. take a listen to witnesses. >> we saw a little girl, she was

like five, five or four years old, and she was under the tree. so we went and -- and tried to pull her out. >> we did cpr and there was a man who got hit. [ inaudible ]. >> the city tells us they have an arborist who checks the trees on an annual basis and they're going to try to figure out the last time the tree was inspected. we know it was very old. and also know on friday it rained a lot in this area and it was very windy heading into saturday. so the weather could have played a part in this as well. and while the city tries to figure out exactly what caused this tragedy, many residents are walking up and just taking this in. one woman telling me that it really breaks her heart, arthel, that this happened on what should have been one family's happiest day. >> it is heartbreaking.

okay. will carr, thank you so much for that story. so unfortunate. meanwhile, evacuations are resuming in aleppo as buses begin to carry out thousands of civilians from the war-torn city. but russia said it will veto a u.n. resolution this afternoon that will bring more aid to syria and protect those desperate civilians. why? john bolton on the humanitarian crisis, the catastrophe and why the world failed. >> also temperatures warming up throughout the midwest and east coast. we're going to take a look at how bitterly cold temperatures have affected travel plans across the country. >> got through security and then my flight got canceled. so i've been sitting here since 5:30, no flight. >> this is like his kmumed one of the rare days that i get off and it is very irritating.

below. authorities say the cars may have been icy -- cause may have been icy roads and weather may have been the cause of the roof collapse at a restaurant and forced 50 people to evacuate from the eagle restaurant in indianapolis. thankfully no one was hurt. and meanwhile temperatures are on the rise across the nation's mid section and the east coast following the bitter blast of frigid cold that we had yesterday. snow and freezing rain has this is weekend. accidents in and so far sadly at least nine deaths are blamed on those slick roads and the weather also causing hundreds of flight delays, and cancellations across the country today. so stay safe. the united nation security council voting later today on a resolution to bring immediate said to syria. the measure calling for u.n. humanitarian staff to monitor the crisis ini aleppo and report how many

civilians have been evacuated from the city. conor powell is live in jerusalem with the latest on the story. connor. >> reporter: we expect that vote to happen any minute now. sometime in the next couple of hours. but whether or not the u.n. approves this plan to send observers to syria won't make a difference to those civilians an people caught in the cross fire at this very moment. there have been efforts underway for the last week to try to get civilians out of the conflict areas. a few thousand have been able to leave but many are are trying to get out of the areas over the weekend and civilians including children waiting for buses came under heavy fire reportedly from pro-assad forces and a new evacuation deal was supposed to go into effect on saturday to replace the previous ones but it appears that is breaking down as well. a convey of buses were set afire inform an attack by rebel fires earlier this weekend. some 15,000 people spent the night in freezing temperatures hoping to get a spot on some of the buses. it does appear that both sides,

the pro-assad and the anti--assad opposition forces are attacking civilians as they try to flee. there are reports that both sides are trying to do this and that is important because there is talk about the good buys and the best guys and the pro-west and the anti-west and we're seeing a break down of everything in syria. both sides attacking civilians, civilians trying to flee, both sides trying to get out of the conflict area and that is the key at this point. but it does appear there isn't much help on the way. the evacuation efforts have been stalled because every time there is a announcement there is going to be an evacuation, at least one of the bus conveys seems to come under attack, arthel. >> it is just not right. conor powell, live in jerusalem. eric. never again. you know that was the legacy and the promise of the civilized world in the aftermath of the holocaust. but as we have seen, this humanitarian catastrophe unfold

in syria, it has betrayed our values. and john bought enjoins us, former ambassador to the united nations and fox news contributor who is mentioned as a possible deputy secretary of state. so ambassador, and you know the russian ambassador to the u.n. said that russia will veto a resolution this afternoon. in the security council that is designed to protect the civilians. i mean, is there no end to this crisis and what do we do as a civilized people when we've seen what is unfolded in syria the past four and five years? >> well, there is certainly no end to it if we continue the same failed approach that we've had basically since the arab spring began in 2011. whether it was hillary clinton who was secretary of state or john kerry, the obama administration's consistent position now for nearly six years has been russia and the united states agree that assad needs to be replaced and we're

working together with russia to figure out how to do it. it was never correct. the russians were never going to allow assad to fall. and talking to them about how to make that happen was a complete waste of time. as well as failing to deal with the iranian support for assad directly and through their sur gas terrorist group hezbollah. it is russia and iran that have kept assad in power and obama wasn't going to do anything to upset the ayatollah and derail the nuclear deal. and we ask how have we come to this place, at least from the american perspective, because we've been pursuing the wrong policies for six years. >> so does that mean now going forward we acquiesce to assad, which means moscow wins and tehran wins? >> well it looks like on the ground inside syria that there is very little left of the opposition in any coherent fashion. and we've got a very complicated situation of the assad regime.

you have the radical opposition and the moderate opposition and you have isis, you have kurds, you have hezbollah. it is a very complex situation. but the net-net is that the iranian, assad and russian axis is prevailing and i'm not sure that the opposition, whether moderate or radical, could sustain itself much longer. and you have to ask if they get picked apart, a pocket of resistance that they hold by pocket of resistance, are we going to see what happened in aleppo happen again and again. >> and how do we protect the citizens. and obama insteads to stall safe zones and have our arab allies pay for it. >> when i see what is going on in syria, it is so sad. and we have to help people. and we have the gulf states. they have nothing but money. we don't have money.

we owe $20 trillion. i will get the gulf states to give us lots of money and we'll build and help build safe zones in syria so people could have a chance. >> do you think that's going to happen? how are the gulf states going to pony up. >> the gulf states have plenty of money but i have to say, in my own personal point of view, since the safe zone at sarajevo in the breakup of yugoslavia turned into a killing zone. >> don't have a lot of faith in these. even the refugee camps is supervising are simply r&r camps for various combatants. this is not solved until there is a political solution and i've been worried that the political solution might be that assad finishing ramping up the syrian opposition and the iranians and the russians come to an agreement with isis to control the territory they have and not

attack each other. sound farfetched. remember the pact before world war ii in eastern europe when the communist and the nazis divided up poland. strange bedfellows could get together when it is in their interest to do so. >> so bottom line, assad stays in power and maybe the country is carved up a bit. >> i think syria and iraq have both ceased to exist as functioning states and i don't know who is big enough to push assad out of power at this point. >> well he is there and staying there and with moscow and tehran backing, they've become the victor. ambassador john bolton, as always, thank you for your insight. >> thank you, eric. >> rallying like it is 1999. what is driving the stock market to record numbers and what could we expect to come this new year. >> and new developments in the standoff between us and china. over them grabbing our drone. well, they've got it. what are they doing with it? now president-elect trump, he says they can keep it.

return that u.s. navy drone that had plucked out of the water in the south china sea. beijing accusing the u.s. of quote, hyping up the incident. but president-elect trump tweeted that, we don't want the drone they stole, is hehe says. they could keep it. we are in washington with the latest on the drama. hi, garrett. >> reporter: you have two very different messages coming from the u.s. here. the current administration has been pushing for china to return the under water drone it stole and now that chooina has agreedo do that, the new incoming president-elect said you could keep it. and it came from president-elect trump last night on twitter where he wrote, we should tell china we don't want the drone they stole back. let them keep it. and this morning on fox news sunday, reince priebus didn't back down from that position. >> i think 80% of americans think it is inappropriate to rip a drone out of the water. they then keep the drone and give it back to the rightful

owner, i don't know if you want that drone back. who knows -- >> the chinese are not apologizing and in its official response on friday told u.s. officials they shouldn't be surprised this happened, adding there are many risks there and many risks of crises. you know that china has undespited sovereignry of the south china sea and further there are risks of your close surveillance. and john mccain suggested that chinese may have taken the drone to steal the technology. >> the chinese are able to do a thing called reverse engineering where they are able to -- while they hold this drone, able to find out all of the technical information and some of it is pretty valuable. look, there is no strength on the part of the united states of america, everybody is taking advantage of it and hopefully that will change soon.

>> reporter: and this incident is just the latest clash between china and the president-elect trump and another indication that the next administration does not plan to carry on with business as usual. eric. >> garrett, thanks so much. and for more on this now, we'll bring in captain ben collins, u.s. ashly special forces -- army special forces veteran who served three tours of duty in afghanistan. so captain collins, considering the length of time that china has had this drone, how much information on the technical and physical construction of the drone could china collect through reverse engineering? >> well, arthel, they could actually do exactly as it was just -- they could reverse engineer the entire thing. and to point -- look, china has been stealing our intellectual property for years. but, yeah, look, i agree. at this point, whatever technology has to be assumed has been compromised that is in that under water drone. >> that is not good.

and on top of that, if you would, captain collins, let's consider the implications behind the incidence. the china administrator saying they will return the drone. and there is no details on what that means and given this took place in the south china sea, are u.s. military and intelligence leaders to infer there is more brewing? >> look, absolutely. i mean, you cannot overstate the importance of the south china sea. it is half of our commercial shipping, the global commercial shipping goes through. a third of the global maritime traffic going through this. china asserts it owns 90% of it and they've been making a play to interfere in terms of ownership. not just for the shipping, but there is also a ton of oil, proven reverses underneath there. and so china has been building man-made islands and arming them and they flew a bomber just --

just two weeks ago or so, specifically a bomber that targets u.s. ships. that has the capability to target u.s. ships. so china is really making a play right now into essentially becoming that regional dominant player within the asia-pacific region because they want to have that control. and it would destabilize not just the economy but the regional stability if they are able to intercede. so i think trump is sending a specific signal right back to them. >> so a signal saying what? that we're going to put a stop to it. he is saying keep the drone. that is reactionary or are you implying there is something more strategic happening here on the part of president-elect trump? what is he saying? >> absolutely. i think it is a strategic signal right back. the last couple of administrations -- >> no, they focus -- captain collins, what is president-elect trump's message? what do you think he's saying and what do you think that he's

going to do once he does take office? >> certainly. well i think he's saying that we're not going to let things like this go unchallenged the way the last eight years have gone unchallenged and we have room to play. >> so what is the push-back? what is the push-back in. >> what is the -- the pushback for trump? >> yeah. >> certainly, the play is to say we're not going to take this lying down any more. and look, the reality is we make up 4% of china's economy and they make up less than 1% of ours. so we could have the peripherals of making this a economic battle but the reality is we have room to be more forceful and we haven't and not to date and trump is not going to take this any more or condemn this press release from the white house and we're going to say, look, keep the drone. have it the -- have at it. we're taking a tough stance now. >> and to your point, the past eight years there hasn't been enough and what sort of action

should there be and you intimated the idea of putting more pressure on china from the business standpoint. is that part of president trump's reaction? >> absolutely. look, i think we need to use every single leverage that we have, that is diplomatic, intelligence and military and economic. and so yes. and so what can we do? we could add more ships into the region. we could put more fleets in the region. we have economic partners there that feel like they are under pressure from china. we have to -- we have to force the freedom of navigation within -- enforce freedom of navigation in the south china sea and the navy is the biggest deterrent we have to do that. and china is almost done completing building an underground nuclear submarine facility and that influence the r region in a much greater way. so time is slipping away to make a stand and have a more dominant role in there, other wise we'll

essentially be advocating a sea lane that half of our commercial shipping goes through and that is untenable. so there is room for us to push back. >> more to talk about. captain ben collins, but out of time. thank you so much and we'll see you next time. >> thank you, arthel. and the terrorist attack in jordan that killed four security officers an a canadian tourist and now we are told there is apparently a hostage situation going on right now in the 12th century iraq castle. that is a 12th century crusader castle that is a popular tourist spot in jordan, in iraq. the local reports say 14 people are being held including a malaysian tourist that police were able to free ten of the hostages but it is believed right now that at 7:37 p.m. in jordan that several gunmen, apparently, are still inside that popular tourist site and castle. this is after they stormed that police station and killed four of the jordanian security officers. one malaysian tourist is believe

well the mayor of corpus christi, texas, said residents could now use the water for

bathing and drinking. the announcement ending a four-day citywide ban after a corrosive chemical leaked from a tank into the water supply. that happened on wednesday. still city officials are advising residents to run taps for two or three minutes to flush any leftover water that might still be in the lines. well, it is not the business as usual for the electors casting votes for the nest president tomorrow. the typically unremarkable and rather routine event has been turned on its head this year but the nationwide push to get some of the electors to choose another candidate over president-elect trump. and in no more than 5 million americans have signed a petition demanding electors dump mr. trump. and he received 306 electoral votes meaning 37 would have to switch tomorrow. what should we expect. joining us now is judy miller

from policy research, a pulitzer prize winning author and journalist and a fox news contributor. judy, some reports this morning have said they predict from one to as many as 20 electors could chip but the trump seem says he wouldn't, the electors should honor that. what do you think will happen? >> look, i think, eric, as you've pretty much indicated, donald trump is going to be the next president of the united states, if the electoral college has anything to say about it since it does mirror the voters. and i think the problem we have now with the electoral college reflects the continuing fury of so many americans with the fact that even though hillary clinton won almost 3 million more popular votes than donald trump, the way our system is set up, donald trump is going to be that president. so yes, there has been a came being waged by democrats to get

republicans to switch their votes. but so far we really have only one elector who said he is going to do that. but we have had a debate about whether or not the system still makes any sense in a country like ours in the 21st century. i think that is a healthy debate since the west coast and east coast of the country, the overwhelming popular vote did support someone else to be president. >> and there have been a lot of talk over the past few years about a direct election with the popular vote. we've seen that before. but the founding fathers laid this out to give everybody equal weight. whether you live in wyoming, you get two senators or in california and you get two -- to try to make it fair and square. >> yes, well president obama called this system a vestage of an earlier time in which states were being encouraged to join the union. he was arguing we don't need this system any more. i think what is kind of stunning

is the amount of popular pressure now that has been brought to bear. some of the electors report receiving 35,000 e-mails, 200 letters, urging them not to vote for mr. trump. that is really an extraordinary mobilization and i think it does reflect this continuing disbelief and fury with the fact that the democratic candidate lost. >> and one of these olectors -- electors is named carol joyce and she is in arizona and a republican and here is what she said today. the letters came from washington state and from china. stuffed with copies of the u.s. constitution or alexander hamilton's writing in the federalist papers number 68 which states that the meaning of the electoral college affords a moral center that the office of the president will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in the imminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications. boy, did he know how to write.

>> right. >> but there is a point. how can president obama call it a vestage if you are dealing with ethical and moral issues and principle of giving the power of the presidency to the people who are the electors. >> that is what the democrats are arguing. that requisite qualifications is really a phrase that is in the eye of the beholder. and that requisite qualifications may not apply to trump if, for example, he continues to get payments and gifts from a foreign government. that, too, is in the constitution. and yet we still haven't heard from mr. trump exactly how he intends to fashion his financial situation so that he doesn't have conflicts of interest, so that he is not getting foreign gifts in terms of revenue from his hotels. saying your children are going to run the business, for most americans does not seem like a

jobs, jobs, jobs. >> that is why we're going to lower our business tax rate from 35% down to 15% and you're going to see things happen. >> well, good news coming from wall street on big numbers for the market. the dow jones trading at record highs over the past few weeks and getting closer to the 20,000 mark for the very first time. the dow also in the running to break a record for speed. let's bring in now john hilden raj, the global editor for the "wall street journal" and a fox news contributor. what is going on here? is the martial on a natural projected course and as time goes on, all feelings increase or is there something else driving the market and how long can the market sustain this rally? >> well, this is certainly a trump and it is -- it started r and excel rated after the election.

the speed with which its gone to 19,000 to 20,000 is reminiscent of the late 1990s. and what this means is the rally sustains itself if trump can deliver on his promises. he said in the -- introduction that you laid out to this segment that he was going to lower the corporate tax rate from 35% to 15%. the market is counting on that. if these gains that we've seen in the last few weeks are going to be sustained, he'll have to deliver on it. >> and how quickly would the president -- then president trump have to deliver on that? >> well, you know, the market is going to want to see some momentum. and the challenges that tax reform is a very difficult process. there are a lot of competing interests that are already lining up on both sides of the corporate tax reform that he is talking about. there is a reason that there hasn't been a major corporate tax reform since 1986, because of the competing interests.

and so i think the market is going to want to see momentum towards some kind of agreement in the early months of this year. and if we don't see that kind of momentum towards an agreement, we could see some symbols in the stock market rally. >> john, quickly on the trump-pence website it says trump is planning to reduce taxes across the board, especially for the working and middle income americans who will receive a massive tax reduction. check out the website for details. talk about the impact on the stock market for me in a short answer. >> well, you know, i think the market is really looking at the corporate tax reform. as far as individual income taxes, that has the potential to boost economic growth and it has the potential to boost spending but they are realing looking at -- really looking at the corporate side of the ledger because that goes straight to the bottom line and straight into the earning estimate that wall street follows so closely. >> and good for the bottom line and good for the pocket books of
