this hour. jennifer, what's the latest? >> well, the last update that we got from officials came around 2:00 o'clock this morning telling us that two prison employees and 82 inmates remained inside of building c here at the vaughn correctional center. they are working through the night continuing negotiations. the hostage situation started 10:30 yesterday morning. four employees including three officers and a counselor were initially taken hostage. two of those employees have since been released and are okay. they had some nonlife-threatening injuries, it's unclear who is leading this charge, how many inmates are involved in the takeover and how many of those inmates are

victims themselves. there is an audio recording on delaware online of a person who called the news journal yesterday claiming to be inside the prison, the person said he was told by his captors to call and report their demands, they claim inmates are oppressed and treated poorly, they want better education opportunities among other things. and they appear to have some support. there's actually a protest that's going to be planned later this morning around 10:00 o'clock this morning here at the prison in support of the prisoners themselves and they're using a #vaughnrebellion to spread their message. abby: give us a sense how long this started and how long it's been going for at this point? >> well, we are approaching 24 hours, it started yesterday morning around 10:30. i was just reading a report that officials began gathering here between 10:30 and 11:00 o'clock yesterday morning and throughout

the day, that's when we saw periodically two employees were released, prisoners were released, however, as i mentioned, there are still 82 inmates inside of building c along with two prison employees. heather: just one more question, of those released, have there been any reported injuries or anything like that? >> yes, there are reports that one of the prison employees that was released yesterday did have some injuries, nonlife-threatening injuries, he was apparently beat up by some of the inmates. we don't have too many specifics on that, though. abby: all right, jennifer joyce live for us. ongoing situation. businesses that ban guns could be held liable in mass shootings . sue for taking away their ability to defend themselves. the law would force businesses for assume responsibility for the safety and defense of anyone

it's about $2,000 less on the native household, the tax burden there. is this a good idea? >> well, listen, trump is working on his campaign promise to keep americans first and so when you have this instance and we don't even know if it's going to go through, we don't know all of the details, but what we want or if immigrants want to come here, they should be expected to be employed and not to be relying on government assistance. our country is reaching $20 trillion in debt, it's unsustainable, i say take care of americans first. heather: david, immigrants built this country, no one is arguing that. >> right, this has something that's been floated. we don't know what the details are and also right that immigrants coming to the country should have jobs and contribute to the economy. this could be policy making insanity if they are going to bar immigrants or deport

immigrants on whether they have been on public assistant. it's smart to slow immigration down, be smart about it, go through process of security screening, for example, procedure, but it's wrong to deport or deny just on the basis of whether someone might be on public assistance, tall research shows as you said immigrants built the country, they added more to the country than subtract to the country economically. heather: does this means that being on public assistance is a crime? >> not to say that it's a crime, heather, our country is facing a significant amount of debt. we can't take care of our veteran like we should. they risk lives and limbs to keep americans safe and veterans are suffering, we are witnessing 20 on average, 20 veterans are committing suicide each and every day. i say we take care of americans first. that's common sense.

heather: david you say that using public assistance should not be the only qualifier obviously so what are some of the other considerations? >> the welfare reform of 1991 got pretty specific about green card holders, american permanent residents, there's an exception for refugees. there's a lot of vetting already. i'm not saying it shouldn't be slowed and made better, there's a lot of of people coming to this country will contribute economically, deporting on a subjective criteria and whether they're not is dangerous and unconstitutional. we have to have solution -- heather: how do we do that. we need to find a center ground as we heard matthew.
