greg will join us later on to look at the action ahead on this super bowl li weekend on fox. so let's get to it. good afternoon from houston. it's not 85 degrees. no, not today. if we're visiting, it's going to be as cold as new york. here the patriots and falcons are two day against way of facing off on fox. tom brady and the patriots looking for their fifth win. vegas considered new england a favorite but slightly. matt ryan and wide receiver julio jones proving to be a devastating combination and the team could be one of the toughest ever on a super bowl sunday. as i mentioned, it's super bowl li and it's live on fox. we'll get to the fun here in
12:02 pm
houston in just a moment. topping the news on a friday afternoon, the trump administration slapping iran with more financial punishments as the president launches a twitter back and forth with that country's foreign minister. president trump had more words from arnold schwarzenegger of all things over his role hosting "the apprentice" and that show's ratings. day three of ratings palooza. the president treated yes, arnold schwarzenegger did a bad job as governor ands will with "the apprentice" but at least he tried heart. arnold schwarzenegger said he would like to trade with the president. just four minutes after tweeting arnold schwarzenegger this morning, the president said his social media sights are on iran. he said iran doesn't appreciate how kind president obama was to them. not me. that was at 6:30 eastern time. 20 minutes later, iran's foreign minister, who follows the
12:03 pm
president, tweeted back. iran unmoved by threats as we derive security from our people. we'll never initiate war, but we can only rely on our own means of defense. whatever that means. the new financial punishments targeting iran are the first actions the president has taken against the country since he and general michael flynn warned the administration was putting iran on notice. u.s. officials say punishments could personalize two dozen iranian companies and agencies. the president getting to work rolling back financial regulations for companies here in the united states. he signed executive order to review the dodd-frank wall street reforms and delay a regulation that requires brokers to act in their client's best interests when managing retirement accounts. the labor department released the jobs report under president trump. it's good. american employers added 227,000
12:04 pm
jobs in january. a major increase from the previous month and 50,000 more than analysts predicted. the report shows unemployment increased to 4.8%, which is historically very low. the labor department officials say the rate went up because more americans are looking for work. here's what president trump said today about the new numbers while introducing his council on economic advisors. >> great spirit in the country right now. we're very happy about that. i think that it's going to continue big league. we're bringing back jobs, bringing down your taxes and getting rid of regulations. there's going to be some exciting times ahead. >> shepard: the president right now is heading to his winter white house, as they call it in florida since inauguration to reunite with melania trump. he set to stay through super bowl weekend. the big game, if i didn't mention it, it's live on fox at
12:05 pm
5:30 here in houston. we'll have more on the super bowl, plus a lot more on politics to get to. our chief white house correspondent, john roberts is on the north lawn. what more do we know about the new punishments against iran, john? >> a lot to unpack, shep. let's start with the foreign assets control at the treasury department. just a little over from the white house. this morning at 10:30, slapping sanctions on 25 individuals and companies mostly in iran and also some in china, some in lebanon, some in the united arab emirates. these are individuals and companies that have been engaged in terrorist or missile-related activities and their assets and other financial transactions will be severely curtailed to the best of their ability by the state department. there's a chance, shep, that this whole thing could start to escalate tit for tat because after those sanctions were placed on the iranian entities, iran was heard to say they're going to impose legal
12:06 pm
restrictions on american individuals and those helping regional terrorist groups. the national security advisor came out with a statement aimed at iran and the united nations saying the trump white house will be far different than the obama white house saying "the international community has been too tolerant of iran's bad behavior. the ritual of convening a u.n. security council and issuing a statement is not enough. the trump administration will not tolerate iran's actions." the. just before he left said that iran is being targeted for sanctions because they have not been behaving and leaving the door open that they could take further action against the regime and other enties associated with the regime and gentlemen, the option of military action not off the
12:07 pm
table. i would hasten to add that it would unlikely to be used. shep? >> that's comforts. john, what details do we have on the financial executive orders? >> one aimed at giving people self-financial advice. the other one targeting regulations that were put in place with the dodd-frank legislation after the near economic collapse of 2009. all of this related to dodd-frank is leading to what the president has suggested could be the ultimate repeal of dodd-frank. he campaigned actively against it in the election campaign. he thinks it's a bad deal for america's banks and american consumers. here's what his press secretary had to say about it earlier today. >> the dodd-frank act is a
12:08 pm
disastrous policy. it imposed hundreds of new regulations on financial institutions while establishing unaccountable and unconstitutional new agency that does not adequately protect consumers. >> no time frame for the dodd-frank repeal. they have a lot of items to get situated. shep? >> shepard: i was hearing there was more fall-out from the refugee ban. >> yeah, in a federal court hearing in virginia, government lawyers suggested that 100,000 visas had been revoked of the result of the executive order that the president signed last friday. the state department says whoa, it's fewer than 60,000. if you look at the immigrant visas issued by this nation every year, the state department sort of portraying it as a drop in the bucket. in 2015, there were 11 million immigrant and nonimmigrants
12:09 pm
visas that were issued. that would represent about 1 1/2 of 1%. i don't know why there's the de -- discrepancy. >> we understand the president will be wheels up for florida? >> he left the white house a short time ago. if he haven't left yet, he will soon. i believe he has. it's a short flight from here to andrew and on to the big blue bird and off down south. he will spent the weekend at mar-a-lago. it's his first team sincing melania and his son, baron since the inauguration. he will spend a lot of time at the winter white house and some work on the way back up to washington when he drops into cent-com in mcdill air force base. this is a guy that doesn't sit still long. he keeps us all hopping to keep
12:10 pm
up. shep? >> shepard: john roberts, have a good weekend. i figured chris wallace would come to the super bowl. >> well, mike pence will be at the super bowl. >> shepard: he will be on fox news sunday. >> he will be in washington and get on a plane and fly down here. so we're going to talk to him. obviously, you know, as john was saying, there's so much to talk to him about. this president just doesn't stop working and doing things to change everything that we've known and felt about the government and our policies the last eight years at least. >> shepard: are you going to the game? >> no. i'm going home to misses sunday. why do you ask about that? >> shepard: because you're on fox. they got me a ticket. i figured you would. we'll explain why it is that chris wasn't given a ticket. >> are we going to start there? let's talk about tom brady. you are hating tom brady.
12:11 pm
>> shepard: i don't hate him. what do you want me, to pretend that i like new england? >> why don't you? >> because i love in new york. tom brady doesn't want to see us in a super bowl. >> he was afraid hoff you guys. >> shepard: we'll talk about it in just a moment. it's news on the fox news channel. it's america's choice for news and information on cable. the most watched cable television in all the land. we'll be right back.
12:12 pm
12:13 pm
so i asked my doctor. and he recommended eliquis. eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots and reduces the risk of them happening again. yes, eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots. eliquis also had significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. both made me turn around my thinking. don't stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. don't take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. if you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. while taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily ...and it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots. plus had less major bleeding. both made eliquis the right treatment for me. ask your doctor if switching to eliquis is right for you.
12:14 pm
>> shepard: so new foreign policy action from the trump administration including sanctions on iran. chris wallace is here live in houston. there's a live look all around us here. hundreds and hundreds, maybing thousands -- >> can we say this is discovery green near the convention center. wouldn't be more delightful. players coming and going. >> shepard: it's fantastic. kevin, pan to the left and show the fox sports tent. >> go around. >> shepard: that's the fox sports -- i'm having tent envy. >> size doesn't matter. >> shepard: so i've heard. new sanctions on iran, chris. what do they mean? >> there's two ways of looking at it. on one hand, after years of us reacting and iran doing things and we're waiting and figuring them out, now suddenly they're
12:15 pm
waiting and reacting and trying to figure this president out. to some degree that's a good healthy thing. the other way of looking at it, of course, you know, you get in a fight with a pig, you're both going to get dirty. we put them on notice. we've put sanctions. what if they respond? how does this escalate? what does it become? that could be frightening. >> shepard: there's no war with australia. >> no. >> shepard: what was that about? >> that was an odd phone call. that's this president. this president has decided that he's going to treat foreign leaders the way he treats the media, the way he treats opponents in political campaigns. again, maybe it's healthy. >> shepard: you're talking to mike pence before the big football game here on the fox broadcast network. there's mike pence and chris wallace what you're thinking? >> i think i ran is number 1. what do they intend to do.
12:16 pm
again, they said they will launch the sanctions. have they thought -- i'm sure they'll say they have -- but have they thought about what happens? what the iran launches another missile? are there more sanctions? it's like barack obama with the red line. you know, it's an -- rhetoric is easy. action is hard. every battle plans survives until first engagement with the enemy. >> shepard: it's getting messy. every time a new president comes into office, there's a test of some kind. obama got 1. bush 43 had a test of his own. there's always testing that happens and it feels like that's happening on one level or another. >> shepard: to a certain degree, donald trump is setting the mark or he's saying i'm going to test you. i'm going to put my point of view and my policies out there and, you know, as he has put it, there's a new sheriff in town. you better get used to me. >> shepard: the israeli
12:17 pm
settlements, we can go back as far as any presidents that i can remember, 20 years or so, the position of the united states has said no more settlements. bush 43 was strong. clinton was strong on it. obama was strong on it. president trump comes out and doesn't mean the settlements. now we have a 180. who has just happened? has this administration been given new information by advisors? >> what happened was, donald trump indicated he was okay with the current settlements, but now they think they have a green light for more expansion. the president approved it in tend or the foreign policy aides said hey, before this gets out of hand, let's sit down and talk with the israeli prime minister and see where this goes. the more settlement you put on, more facts on the ground, more
12:18 pm
territory israel says it owns, harder to make a deal, not that there's any deal in the offing with the palestinians. >> shepard: if you're political about this matter, you have your own thoughts and ideas. the thinking behind those that argued against the settlements, that settlement and land that the palestinians would want, should there be a two-state solution. the theory has been, the idea, the working idea has always been, that will be your land, this is israel's land when we end up dividing. but in the absence of that, two-state solution is hard to draw up. those that want a two-state solution say we want a palestine and a store. >> shepard: there's another interesting thing that trump talked about. that he was going to move the u.s. embassy from tel aviv to jerusalem.
12:19 pm
obviously that's a ticklish issue. the palestinians say jerusalem is their capitol. but trump and his administration has backed off that. no talk on moving the embassy right away, again, falling in line with u.s. policy in the area. >> shepard: speaking of unconventional. being at a super bowl is cumbersome. a lot of security, traffic, road blocks. so you come in say thursday and friday you have a nice time. saturday maybe you go to the taylor swift concert. sunday -- >> taylor swift has a concert? >> shepard: yes. >> where is the concert? >> here in houston. have you been invited? >> shepard: you have to pay go. i got a ticket for that. >> i love taylor swift. >> shepard: if you made the trip to super bowl city, you usually go to the game. not you. unconventional. >> if you must know the truth, it's sunday. i have had physical issues with
12:20 pm
a bad shoulder. my wife asked me to come her. i chose my wife over a football game. how about you, shep? >> shepard: i don't have a wife and i'm going to the game. i feel good. i hope mrs. sunday is better. >> she will do better with her husband by her side. >> shepard: i'm in a no win. >> you decided to go there. >> shepard: will you watch the game? >> of course. >> shepard: where? >> at home with my wife. >> shepard: on fox. >> yes, on fox. >> shepard: when you say super bowl li, you say on fox. >> on fox. >> shepard: because it's on fox. >> fox. yes. >> shepard: my understanding the boss is coming. mr. murdock may be here? >> that's what i heard. again, information that i didn't know. >> shepard: we're the news division, chris. >> i'm taking care of my wife at home. >> shepard: really nice. hello, mrs. sunday. i know she watches. >> sometimes she thinks you're mean with he. >> shepard: sometimes you deserve it. >> let's don't knock tommy
12:21 pm
brady. don't do it. >> shepard: gisele, they have a wonderful life. i know the record -- >> and you're jealous. you're a hater. injury a hater. >> shepard: i've had enough. i can go to commercial. when we come back, he'll be gone. super bowl li on fox. >> bye, honey. see you sunday. ? cialis for daily use treats ed and the urinary symptoms of bph. tell your doctor about your medicines, and ask if your heart is healthy enough for sex. do not take cialis if you take nitrates for chest pain, or adempas® for pulmonary hypertension, as this may cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure. do not drink alcohol in excess. to avoid long-term injury, get medical help right away for an erection lasting more than four hours. if you have a sudden decrease or loss of hearing or vision, or an allergic reaction, stop taking cialis and get medical help right away. ask your doctor about cialis.

just to see their faces in the morning when i wake them up. the first thing you think about is your wife and your kids and your family. so i had surgery locally, and it came back after my follow up that i needed a second surgery. and that's when i said i need a second opinion. everyone, from the moment i walked through the doors, they're smiling and i love the fact that included me in the whole process. the diagnosis of cancer is one of those things that you want an answer now. we can do now here. rod was great. i mean, he did everything that we asked him and more. the treatment plan was for him to have chemotherapy and radiation followed by surgery.

12:25 pm
ivanka have called those reports inappropriate. monday she went with her daughter for the arrival of the body of the u.s. navy seal that died in yemen. the first daughter hosted a dinner party in washington for big names in business to talk about women in the work force and paid family leave. those are issues ivanka trump talked about in her father's campaign. with us now, the author of that article, annie carney with us, the white house reporter for politico. this was a big get together. kind of what people expected before the election. >> this was her first move since moving to washington. she's been keeping a low profile, making it clear she's not part of her business anymore and that she's not part of the government. last night she hosted six or seven ceos, including the ceo of general motors to talk about the
12:26 pm
same issues she highlighted in the campaign. to talk about women's economic empowerment issues and paid maternity leave. this is a marker that this is where she's going to try to make influence policy in her father's administration. >> shepard: it's been interesting. for the first couple weeks, as you mentioned, she had been laying low. now all of a sudden she and her husband, jared, jared kushner, they're making headlines. you broke a story today about the two of them and their influence over lgbtq issues. tell us about that. >> sure. there was this draft executive order that's been going around that looked like the trump administration that outlined language that they would overturn these workplace protection for lgbt individuals, that obama passed in 2014. i just reported this afternoon that ivanka and jared were pushing the trump administration to put out a statement saying we are keeping the lgbt executive
12:27 pm
order from the obama administration. we're not changing it. i was told that this -- there's about 200 executive orders out there that have been written. some are real, some are not, this may have been in the less real category. it wasn't a campaign promise that trump was following through on. more importantly, this is -- like we're seeing ivanka making her move. it's interesting to watch her right now. she's been very, like you said in your intro, she doesn't want to be seen as the de facto first lady. she doesn't want to fill that role. the question is, what is her role? she has a huge platform. remains to be seen if she does influence her father on policy. the lgbt executive order is a first small example how she might be doing that. she's got -- there's no rules for the role she's trying to play her. these early moves are us trying to see where she's going to go
12:28 pm
with it. >> shepard: yeah, she has a really -- she can do whatever she wants. twitter is exploding with your story at this moment. as you know, the appearance at least of her having influence on this matter, with people that may be are very much supportive of the president because they want the president to do well this is not who they voted for, this is the kind of thing that might win some friends. >> this is the balancing act she's been trying to do. she's a moderating influence over her father. like my twitter feed is blowing up with people saying that the dinner party last night was a bunch of rich men talking about how to increase economic opportunities for working class women in the work force and rolling their eyes at it. i think people want -- a lot of people want to see her as liberal. people that are scared of the trump presidency, they see her
12:29 pm
as someone they can pin their hopes and dreams on that she's more moderate on climate change and other issues. there's skepticism is it about her own brand or is she going to affect any change. or is she just looking to keep her own personal brand kind of clean and free of the more extreme policies that her father is promoting. >> shepard: well, there's plenty of time to find out. we have four years to do so. annie karni from politico. thanks a lot. the french president blaming terrorism for a popular tourist attraction. and the u.s. military pulling down from their web site what officials first said was valuable information from a major terror raid. oops! we're getting a different story now. as fox reports live from the site of super bowl li on fox sunday night 5:30 houston time. it's falcons and patriots live

no laws were broken. the aclu says she should make a public statement to clarify her position. >> shepard: we could learn more about the destruction of videotapes. it's my understanding. >> there's two versions of the letter. the democratic senators that want the series of incidents and the destruction of the videotapes declassified for the public. >> this instruction would do well by itself to declassify that letter so we all can have an understanding as to why there are -- these kinds of concerns. >> this position is not senate confirmed. at the very least, it's reenergized the interrogation. >> shepard: thanks very much. the u.s. military yanked terror propaganda videos off line. central command said that service members received
12:38 pm
instruction videos and the government posted the video today. it turns out that's not the video of that raid. it's been around for years. navy seal william ryan owens died in the raid. the u.s. military is investigating the death civilians. jennifer griffin with the pentagon. what is up? >> the video was captured in the rate. the pentagon has been under pressure to say that the raid was botched. several video clipped a few hours ago they said were nabbed in the al-quaida compound. one showed a mask militant combining chemical to build a bomb from the west. turns out that that al-quaida video is ten years old and already in the public domain. the pentagon cancelled the
12:39 pm
briefing when it became clear the material was not new. >> shepard: the point of the mission now, jennifer, the critics have said that the obama straight worked on this a long time. the trump came in and rushed through it without preparation. >> it's become a real he said/she said. i spoke to a top military commander overseeing the raid. he outlined how the mission came about and when it was first presented at the white house. in essence, the mission was first proposed in november, a day before the u.s. election. >> it was passed to the white house by ash carter in november. one of the final national security deputy meets on january 6 discussed the pros and cons of the raid, the dangers and the benefits. i'm told they unanimously decided to pass it forward. president obama did not want to box the next president in so it was left for all the

12:45 pm
kids choice of schools. she deserves praise. >> it's been interesting to me that all of the statements that came out against betsy devos don't take into account this basic thing. she's been passionate about helping students in the inner city, students in poverty. any student to be able to have every opportunity in education they possibly can have. i would think as a nation that we would encourage that. >> after voting on the nomination, senators are expected to wrap up three nominations. jeff sessions for attorney general and steve mnuchin for treasury. it's setting up to be a busy week in the senate. shep? >> experts say the odds are 4-1 that somebody will streak across the field super bowl sunday. that's the odds. one of a handful of strange things on which you can bet to make quick cash this weekend.
